Andrew’s TNA Bound For Glory Results & Match Ratings: 10.26.2024
Bound for Glory is TNA’s WrestleMania! We get the Hall of Fame inductions of Bob Ryder and Rhino, and then a card filled with title matches. Vikingo, Hendry and The Hardyz all have a chance to leave with gold!
Most of the television leading up to this show was worthless, the pre-show was kinda pathetic all things considered. Kaz won the Gauntlet, which was the obvious answer because of his constant involvement in the main event, but also we only saw Tasha Steelz and Lei Ying Lee as the Knockouts additions, and they didn’t fair well at all. So it shows the Knockouts division is fairly thin and nothing interesting about the Final Four unless you think pandering to Detroit with Rhino making it is special.
So now we get to see Kaz try to pick his spot in the World title match to try and screw someone. I’ll admit, the Countdown lowered my excitement for this show, but hopefully kicking off with Vikingo and Speedball, that can re-spark my attention.

X Division Championship: El Hijo del Vikingo vs Speedball Mike Bailey (c)
Strike exchange starts fast and Vikingo takes the advantage early on, a sequence of Dives to the outside has his momentum rolling, but when he goes for a Splash from the top, Bailey moves and Vikingo lands in a way reminiscent of how he hurt himself earlier this year. So the small hiccup from Vikingo allows for Bailey to slap on a Figure Four after picking the ankle, Backflip Knees and just generally keeping up the pressure. Bailey tries to throw Vikingo out, but he hits the Matt Cross rope rebound into a Superkick to buy himself time and then a few clever rope dodges and Missile Dropkick have things working for Vikingo.
Vikingo does the Old School barricade walk into a Frankensteiner on the outside. Vikingo tries to go inside for the Baseball Slide, but Bailey jumps up on the ropes and pulls off the Asai Moonsault but adds the Tornillo Twist. Back in the ring, Shooting Star Press, but he misses, Vikingo tries to charge, Green Tea Plunge counter! Bailey gets a near fall, tries to continue but Vikingo slaps on a Triangle Armbar, Bailey tries to break so Vikingo Monkey Flips him. Running Knees misses, Fisherman Michinoku Driver from Bailey! Shooting Star Press connects! Only a two! Bailey goes for the Tornado Kick spot but Vikingo counters with a Waterwheel Kick! Overhand Chop spot, so Bailey goes full lucha style with this moment. Bailey hears an “Uno Mas” chant, Vikingo expects it but Bailey decides to fire off some Round Kicks. Vikingo catches a foot, lands a few shots, kicks the knee so Bailey goes Crane Kick pose, Vikingo looks confused and eats a perfect Crane Kick!
Tornado Kick spot connects! Ultima Weapon! Bailey retains, 1-2-…oh no! Vikingo kicks out! Bailey is incensed, sets up the Flamingo Driver and Vikingo counters with a Destroyer! Running Knees! Bailey powders to avoid the 630 Senton so Vikingo walks the ropes and hits a Tornillo of his own! Feeds Bailey back in, looks for the 630 again but Bailey counters, then sweeps the leg, Bailey goes for Backflip Knees on the apron but Vikingo rolls in! Vikingo perches on the post and kills Bailey with an Avalanche Destroyer onto the apron! 630 attempt again but Bailey sits up enough to dishearten Vikingo so he changes the game plan. They both fight up the ropes, Headbutts and strikes, Bailey hits Meteorain! Bailey retains for real this time!
Knockouts Tag Team Titles: Spitfire (Dani Luna & Jody Threat) (c) vs Sleep Paralysis Demons (Wendy Choo & Rosemary)
Choo starts with her forward roll creepy crawling after the opponent attack. Spitfire connects with a few tandem moves, but Choo kinds likes it. She shoves Dani into the corner, tags in Rosemary and Dani fires out of the corner to level Rosemary and hit a Brainbuster, but just sees the Zombie Rise. Spitfire continues the tandem attacks on Rosemary, but Choo uses the pillow to buffet the Whip into the corner. Look at Wendy being a good teammate. Jody grabs the pillow and then…German Suplexes it to the outside. Is it sad to the say the Pillow is more over and has more charisma than Jody Threat?
Choo with the Cartwheel Forearm into a charging Kick and Rosemary hits the Upside Down on Jody. Demons have Threat isolated until she fires off an Irish Whip and Lariats Wendy. Simultaneous tags, Rosemary and Dani collide and Dani’s power is the early story. Scoop Slams, Shotgun Kicks, Running Boot to knock Wendy off the apron, Missile Dropkick from Dani for a near fall attempt but Rosemary Jacknife counters it and Dani kicks out. Rosemary powders, Spitfire look for tandem dives on Rosemary, but Choo grabs Jody and beats on her while Dani flies alone. Jody takes entirely too long to get to her next spot after the Demons Double DDT Dani, so there’s a weird lull in the action.
Jody tries to fire up Dani to get in and tag her, but Wendy picks the ankle of Jody to stop the tag. Spear from Rosemary but she chooses to not finish the match, they go to the top rope but Dani counters and Double Avalanche Powerbomb. Dani makes the tag to Jody, Wendy and Rosemary inadvertently hit each other, Jody stacks them on the ropes for her Running Knees spot into the Double German. Pressure Drop connects in a match that was pretty crap and had as much heat as Pluto.
Post match Rosemary Spears Wendy Choo, so I guess this arrangement is over.
Steve Maclin vs Josh Alexander
Maclin got new music, and its actually pretty good. Sounds more tweener/face, so I’m glad it doesn’t suck.
Maclin attacks Josh during his entrance and just goes fast. Throws Josh over the steps, flies off the steps for Death from Above, tries to throw him in the ring but Josh powders so Maclin hits a SCUD! Facebuster into the apron, a few chops, goes for the Irish Whip into the post but Josh counters and Maclin’s head connects with the post. So now Josh has some control, a few more strikes and goes for the Figure Four in the post. The bell officially rings now, and Josh lays in some boots and connects with simple offense. Maclin counters a Whip with one of his own, Josh eats it chest first, bounces out and eats a Running Lariat from Maclin. Backbreaker from Maclin starts a few moments of Maclin driving knees into the back. Maclin to the top, Josh tries to stop him, Maclin fights him off, goes for the Jar Headbutt, but misses so Josh connects with a Powerbreaker!
The action in the match is more simplified and boring so the crowd starts chanting “Jared Goff” “Walking Weiner” ” Punch that Dick”. It’s Detroit, I got nothing. Josh goes for his Kurt Angle homage German Suplexes, but Maclin counters and hits about 10 of his own. The crowd however doesn’t care, they are just trying to get themselves over. It’s not until Maclin’s 10th Suplex they actually react to the match instead of their own special ketchup flavored stupidity. Fighting Spirit spot, Maclin puts Josh in the Tree of Woe, goes for Caught in the Crosshairs but Josh sits up and Maclin saves himself from getting posted. But Josh takes the momentum and drops Maclin spine first on the apron, hits the Low Crossbody, and then rolls him in for a near fall. Josh goes for the C4 Spike, but Maclin counters with the Olympic Slam. Takes him to the top, Superplex into the FU for a two! Maclin wants KIA, but Josh counters, Maclin tries to brace himself on the ropes and ref bump happens. Ugh.
Josh kicks Maclin in the balls and grabs a zip tie from his knee pad, ties up Maclin and starts stomping on him. Referee is back alive and questioning the zip tie situation. Josh postures in the ropes, Maclin attacks him with his arms tied causing Josh to fall into a Tree of Woe. Caught in the Crosshairs with no hands, SCUD no hands, ref keeps trying to cut Maclin free but Maclin isn’t letting him, back to back Busaiku Knees for a two count. Maclin demands to not have his hands freed, Josh scoops him, Tombstone Piledriver! 1-2-Shoulder Up! C4 Spike attempt, but no! Maclin tries another Busaiku but misses, German from Josh, Maclin fires up and Headbutts Josh, so Josh grabs the ankle and goes for the Ankle Lock with grapevine. Maclin passes out so Josh wins.
Oddly, the concept was a little dumb, but the crowd started to buy in when Maclin refused to cut free and just attacked.
Monster’s Ball Digital Media Championship & International Heavyweight Championship: PCO (c) vs Matt Cardona
This starts as expected, PCO stalking, and then Cardona lands a Dropkick that sends PCO to the outside and demands a count out, even though its a Monster’s Ball match. Cardona throws PCO into steps, hits him with steps, steps up on steps, asking what are you doing step bro step….okay I got a little carried away with all the step spots. PCO clocks Cardona and grabs a Trash Can, so very slow and basic, Cardona counters a Powerbomb sending PCO into the lower half of the steps. See…more steps, told you. Cardona finds a Door…how very GCW of him. Door sounds like Gore, so Detroit goes wild. Cardona tries the Radio Silence after setting up the Door and PCO tosses him through instead. PCO muscles Cardona out of the ring, Cardona goes fishing for weapons, PCO goes for a dive and eats a trash can instead. Cardona finds another door, and a few Bound for Glory chairs to complain about not being on the chair. Why do I feel like that’s a WWE reference? Then he creates a chair and door masterpiece where he puts two chairs sideways under the door. So if you go through the door, you eat sideways chairs as well.
PCO fights back, 10 Count Punches in the corner but Cardona counters and Powerbombs PCO into the Chair/Door doom spot for two. Little black bag is next, thumb tacks, Cardona puts the tacks in PCO’s mouth and ReBoot! Cardona keeps driving PCO’s face into the thumb tacks but PCO keeps sitting up as Cardona literally does acupuncture on PCO’s face with the tacks. PCO fires, Cardona hits Radio Silence for 2! What’s behind Door number 3 you may ask? Cardona, Cardona is the answer because PCO just charges into it while Cardona is bringing it in. Very American Gladiators or MXC. PCO goes for his own little black bag. Glass this time? Let’s find out.
OH, more tacks. Cardona with the Low Blow, to stop the attempted damage. Cardona then goes under the ring for an Eco Cooler green barbwire bat (Ecto matches Cardona’s Ghostbuster inspired outfit). PCO blocks the bat, Chokeslam into the tacks! PCO-SAULT ONTO THE TACKS! PCO wins!
Moose vs Mike Santana
Santana charges at Moose, he instantly powders, baits out Santana and JDC tries to interfere immediately but to no avail. So Moose gets rocked, thrown into the guardrails, eats a Running Big Boot, and Moose can’t get anything going. Santana goes for a Suicida but Moose pulls JDC in the way! So JDC eating the move gives Moose a chance for a cheapshot into an Apron Bomb. Moose slides in to distract the ref and JDC attacks Santana a bit before throwing him back in. Santana tries to fight back, rocks Moose a bit in a corner, goes for a Running Cannonball, but Moose catches him, Sitout Powerbomb for two! Santana shows fight again, but Moose puts the brakes on the come back with an Uranage.
Moose starts doing the insult boot taps, Santana spits at him and then fires up to throw hands. Moose eat Chops like it’s a BBQ joint, Moose goes for the Triangle Crossbody but misses and Rolling Buck Fifty levels Moose! Santana goes to the top, Moose powders so Santana takes out both Moose and JDC, Cannonball again, Moose catches him but Santana turns it into a Frankensteiner, then an Asai Moonsault! Slides both back in, Outline in Chalk for two! Spin the Block…gets blocked! Spicolli Driver into the corner from Santana! 450 Splash but Moose kicks out.
Santana goes to the top again, JDC cuts him off, Moose looks for an Avalanche Go To Hell, but it was more like Ugly as Hell. They powder to the apron, trade blows, trade “Fuck You” kicks, Apron Bomb from Moose as both look exhausted. Terrible sell from Santana where he’s not moving til 9 on the outside, magically pops up fast to roll in and then plays dead again. So JDC looks to get involved, Santana “played possum” but it was too long and stupid, Spin the Block on JDC and Lights Out from Moose…but only for 2! Moose looks for Lights Out again, catches him mid Spear in a Cradle, Moose pops out, tries the rope run Spear and hits Spin the Block for the win!
Sloppy spots, bad psychology, too much JDC involvement, the big moves connected well enough, but this was amateur looking.
TNA Knockouts World Championship: Jordynne Grace (c) vs Masha Slamovich
Jordynne extends a hand and they actually shake hands. Masha and Jordynne go for tests of power, arm wringers, and its mostly a stalemate early on. Things speed up a little and Masha eats a Reverse Side Suplex, Masha Drop Toe Holds Jordynne into the ropes, floats over, kicks Jordynne in the face, then Savate Kick sends Jordynne to powder and Masha with the Tope con Hilo to lay out Jordynne on the outside. Jordynne kicks the leg, sweeps the other leg on Masha sending her crashing to the apron and then a Diving Stomp. Jordynne puts Masha on her shoulders, bounces her head and ankles off the post before connecting on the Cartwheel Death Valley Driver. A few more leg kicks when they get inside, Grace goes for the Juggernaut Driver but Masha blocks and goes for a quick Cradle for 2. Masha escapes the Kudome Valentine and goes for a combination of Sambo kicks but is slow into the cover because of all the focus on the legs.
Jordynne tries the Spinning Backfist, but Masha ducks and DDT into the Guillotine Choke, but Jordynne stands up and turns it into a Jackhammer for two! World’s Strongest Slam into Vader Bomb, but Masha moves! Russian Destroyer attempt but Jordynne counters, they climb to the top, Masha slips down, tries an Avalanche Powerbomb but no, so Masha fires up as Jordynne turns around and Avalanche Frakensteiner into Russian Death Device! But Jordynne kicks out at two! Masha tries to go for more kicks, but Jordynne keeps taking pot shots at the bad knee, Jordynne moves but Masha puts her body on the line and just hits the Springboard Crossbody. Burst from Masha, Running Big Boot, Capo Kick, looks for another Russian Death Device, but counters, Gutwrench German Suplex from Jordynne into a Kryptonite Krunch for two!
Fighting on the apron, Jordynne tries to Suplex Masha back in, but Masha trips her up and she takes a weird bump back into the ring. Masha fights up the corner, Jordynne tries the Kinikku Buster, but Masha counters, two Knee Strikes, BURNING HAMMER! For only two! Two strikes and a Backfist misses from Masha, but connects from Jordynne, Masha connects with a few kicks then Jordynne counters into a Overhead Fishermen Suplex, Juggernaut Driver! But Masha kicks out at the last second, Ankle Lock into a Stretch Muffler but Masha finds the ropes. Jordynne fights her up the ropes, Headbutts from Masha into an Avalanche Russian Death Device! PILEDRIVER! MASHA WINS!
Frankie Kazarian Special Guest Referee: TNA World Heavyweight Championship: Nic Nemeth (c) vs Joe Hendry
Hendry does a Lose Yourself parody for his intro package and then comes out dressed like Jason Vorhees. Meme wrestler or not, he’s got it figured out enough to be over as hell.
A “Fuck Ohio” chant starts before the bell even rings. Early exchange is just tie ups and escapes, nothing worth really mentioning. The Ohio hatred is the best part of this first 90 seconds or so. Super slow start. Shoulder Tackle into a Stalling Suplex is the first spot that does something and the crowd loves it. It’s a very pro-Hendry crowd. Nic hits a Rude Awakening and the crowd wants none of it. 10 Count Shot to the Heart Elbows. Hendry manages the comeback, quickens the pace a little with Shoulder Tackles, Sack of Shit, Kip Up and Standing Ovation attempt, but Nic counters into a Sleeper Hold! Hendry shakes him off, Nic charges and eats a Ganso Bomb for 2! Hendry goes for an Ankle Lock but Nic gets to the ropes.
Nic is rocked on the buckles, Hendry goes up, they scuffle, and Nic connects with a Headbutt, Hendry big right hand, Avalanche Sack of Shit! Kaz starts a standing count and starts looking around. He considers cashing in his trophy, Hendry rolls out to stop Kaz from “calling his shot”, Hendry slides in and Nic connects on a Fame ASSer, Kaz fast counts but Hendry kicks out! Looks like Nic isn’t happy with a fast counter either, Hendry fires back a little, looks for a Powerbomb but Nic counters with a DDT! Nic goes for a Flying Crossbody, Hendry catches him, on the shoulders, Attitude Adjustment for 2! Nic peppers Hendry with some Forearms, Carbon Footprint from Hendry! Nic rolls to the apron, they start fighting on the apron. Headbutt from Hendry, Superkick from Nic, HENDRY CUTTER on the apron!
Both men are down, Kaz tries to call his shot, JBL storms to the ring from the crowd and Clotheslines Kaz! He goes out of the ring, has a few words with Hendry…and Clotheslines HENDRY! Ryan Nemeth jumps out of the crowd to ask what is going on and JBL decks Ryan! JBLs is on a Rampage! Hendry stumbles back in the ring, DANGER ZONE! Another referee runs down, Hendry kicks out! Nic tuning up the Band, Superkick no, Standing Ovation no, Superkick connects and DANGER ZONE…Nemeth…retains? Why?
Snails pace start, will they won’t they Kaz moments, JBL interference and a generic referee to wholly invalidate Kaz even being the referee. Did NOSAWA book this match? Embarassing, now I see why they didn’t have it go last.
Full Metal Mayhem: The Hardyz vs The ABC vs The System (c)
ABTLC attacks one member of the System each, so they go for the Poetry in Motion spot they did last iMPACT! episode. Hardy hit the double lariat to knock out the members and now Bey goes for a Tope con Hilo, Ace starts collecting chairs for all non-System members and ABTLC are working together to beat on the heels. The logic is definitely flawed here with the Hardyz attacking System through the crowd and ABC is helping. They should be just setting up ladders to win the match, but they are focusing on beating on The System more than winning the match. Bey puts Myers on a table, Ace Frog Splash through the table and then the Hardyz dog walk Eddie through the crowd, back to the ring. Jeff puts Eddie on a different table, Matt climbs a ladder and hits the Extreme Leg Drop through the table.
Jeff finally remembers there’s a goal to this match and sets up a ladder, so Bey stops Jeff and now ABTLC are fighting. Hardyz double team Bey with the Plot Twist! Both Hardyz start climbing, so Ace just tips the ladder over to stop the Hardyz. Jeff starts moving before Ace can climb up, so now ABC are double teaming Jeff. Poetry in Motion used against him, Drop Toe Hold into a chair, Double Stomp into a chair, Eddy Gordo kick rocks Matt. Matt is laid on a ladder that’s propped in the corner and Double Stomp on the ladder! Jeff finds a construction ladder, attacks ABC, opens it out and then ABC Suplex Jeff onto the construction ladder. Ace decides to climb the ladder while Bey braces it and Jeff attacks Bey so Ace falls forward and it’s goofy, but unique and not terrible, just goofy.
They thread the construction ladder through the normal A Frame ladder, Delete Face Smashes takes out Ace, Bey takes out Jeff, so half of each team head to the ladder, struggles back and forth, Superplex counter, Ace and Jeff grab chairs and walk across the construction ladder to hit the non-teammate and then duel with chairs on a ladder bridge. Headbutts, punches, Headbutt again and both Ace and Jeff crash to the construction ladders! The System is alive and attacking everyone with chairs. They clear out the ring of ladders and ABC, set up two tables and Stereo Side Effects from the System drive The Hardyz through the tables! ConChairto attempt from System, but Chris Bey lays out The System. 1-2-Sweet connects on Myers onto a chair! Eddie pancakes Ace and then Blue Thunder Bombs Bey! Ace starts climbing a ladder that is not positioned well, Eddie follows him just to attack him, thumb to the eyes, Eddie tries to figure out if he can grab the titles from the position but eats an ART OF FINESSE! Ace climbs the ladder and walks it closer to the titles, but Eddie and Myers cut off the shenanigans.
Bey grabs the where the belts are, they move the ladder away, Myers climbs the Ladder, Eddie swings Bey into Myers for EDGE OF MADNESS! Eddie climbs up, looks to have a shot, but Matt returns with a chair, Twist of Fate with a Chair around his neck! Roster Cut from Myers! Twist of Fate from Jeff! Myers powders, another Twist of Fate on the outside. Jeff grabs the big boy ladder, tries to use the chair to slide down the ladder, it looks weird but works well enough. Points for creativity. Myers is put on a table, Jeff Sabu’s a chair at him, climbs the big boy ladder, SWANTON BOMB through the table! Matt tries to climb the ladder, Ace cuts him off, Lish comes down to tip over the ladder! Lish then reveals her neck isn’t injured anymore! Matt returns to the ring and hits the Twist of Fate on Alisha! Eddie comes out with Kenny the Kendo stick and takes out Matt! The Hardyz won’t die! They Double Sabu the chairs Eddie, Tandem Powerbomb through the last remaining tables and Hardyz WIN!
Overall Score: 7/10
So this was a weird show. Three fantastic matches with X Division, Metal Mayhem and Knockouts, but the low points were hella low. Knockouts Tag needs to go away forever. PCO’s match was a PCO match, about as good as you can expect. World title was ruined, but I guess they wanted the Hardyz to be the big crowd pop and didn’t want to detract and save the Hendry pop for later. Can’t send the crowd home TOO happy, ya know? Hopefully the Moose and Santana angle is completely done, because it felt like a stretch when they started it and this was not a great match. So I don’t need anymore of this. Maclin however may have actually got himself over a little by being a stubborn Jersey boy just throwing himself at Josh while zip tied.
With all that said, 3 4+ snowflake matches is nothing to sneeze at, especially with possibly the best Knockouts match ever. But I’m still annoyed that the Kaz winning the Gauntlet was just a goofy tease that ended up not mattering or playing into the finish at all because JBL just decided his clotheslines were rated E for Everyone…except Nic Nemeth. The only fun thing about that is Hendry mention JBL, and Nemeth said he wouldn’t be a factor, so Nemeth lied.
Decent show all things considered, with some very blatant snack and piss breaks.

While victory was good enough for Jeff Cobb and the others, The Great-O-Khan attacks Shota Umino! The fans are torn as Khan CLOBBERS Shota, then sends him back into the ring. Khan stomps away, then he hits a SAYANAGI! Khan then goes out to fetch a pair of scissors! Khan goes back to Shota, sits him up, and starts cutting away Shota’s air! Khan revels in the trophy he just took from The Roughneck, and the fans continue to be torn. Khan stomps Shota, then leaves him behind, but the message seems rather clear. Will Khan look to humiliate Shota in a Hair VS Hair grudge match?
Taichi & Taka Michinoku VS SANADA & Taiji Ishimori!
Every time The Holy Emperor has gone after Cold Blooded Sanada in these tag matches, Sanada has found a way to frame Taichi and get him disqualified! Surely Sanada can’t keep this up forever, will this be the moment of his comeuppance? Or will he still get the better of his furious former friend?
Well, to start, Taichi & Taka attack Sanada & Taiji during their entrance! The fans fire up as Taichi goes right after Sanada with kicks, then he POSTS Sanada! Taichi CHOKES Sanada, Taka keeps Taiji away, and then Taichi shoves Sanada into railing. The ref reprimands but he can’t do much else, this isn’t a match yet! The brawls spill out into the crowd, and Taichi whips, only for Sanada to reverse! Taichi clips a chair, then Sanada goes after him! Taiji CLAWS Taka’s eyes, and Sanada SMACKS Taichi off the “West” sign! Taiji takes a water bottle, takes a swig, then MISTS Taka in the face! Fans rally for Taichi as Sanada brings Taichi back to ringside.
Sanada whips, but Taichi reverses, and Sanada hits railing hard! The fans cheer, but Taiji still CHOKES Taka! Taichi storms up on Sanada, brings him around and puts him in the ring. The fans cheer again, but then Taiji anchors Taichi’s foot. The bell rings, and Sanada KICKS ropes to jam Taichi up! Sanada then suplexes Taichi onto ropes for MAGIC SCREW! Sanada goes up the corner, ROUNDING BODY PRESS! The fans are torn but Sanada just soaks it all up. Sanada brings Taichi up, but Taka BOOTS him! Taiji kicks and whips Taka, but Taka reverses, only for Taiji to handspring and NEURALIZER KICK!
Taiji says BANG, and BLOODY- NO, Taka fights out, UPPERCUTS, and MICHINOKU DRIVERS! Taka scoops Sanada, Sanada slips free, but Taka fights the dragon sleeper! SUPER K! AX BOMBER from Taichi! The fans fire up and Taichi TAKES OFF HIS PANTS! The fans fire up more as Taichi takes aim. TENSHO- NO, the ref is sent at Taichi! Taichi pushes the ref aside, Sanada blocks the kick, then fakes the low blow! But the ref saw it this time, Sanada’s trick won’t work! Sanada gets mad at the ref, then he kicks at Taichi. Taichi blocks the kick and he wants the ref to see this! LOW BLOW!!
Winners: Sanada & Taiji Ishimori, by disqualification
If Sanada wants it that bad, Taichi will give it to him! Taka can’t understand, but consider it a moral victory for Taichi. But he isn’t done, TENSHO JUJIHO for Sanada! Taichi RIPS the “F Just5Guys” shirt off Sanada, then tells him this is what he gets! Taichi storms out of the ring, to grab a chair! Taichi then goes back for Sanada, but Taka and Young Lions tell him not to! Taichi shoves them all aside, storms into the ring, but again he has to push Young Lions and even Taka out of the way! Taichi aims as Sanada sits up, but Taka stops Taichi. Taka says Taichi only has to wait a week, then he can get Sanada in Osaka.
Sanada slips away, and Taichi scares Taiji off. Will the Holy Emperor’s wrath be satisfied when he ends this at The New Beginning?
IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship: El Desperado VS Kosei Fujita!
The Rogue Luchador’s been on quite the roller coaster ride the past 13 months. He wins this title at WrestleKingdom 18 off his long time rival, Hiromu Takahashi. He loses this title to that cheating Murder Machine, Sho, in Sapporo. He wins Best of the Super Juniors 2024 to then win this title back in a Steel Cage Match, also in Sapporo, only to lose it to his old friend, Douki, only a few weeks later. And then, Desperado wins this title back from Douki, only because Douki crashed and burned at WrestleKingdom 19. Will Despy find himself back on the rise? Or will the Japanese Young Punk send him plummeting back down?
The introductions are made, Desperado’s belt is raised, and we see who is truly the mightiest Junior Heavyweight!
The bell rings and the fans rally and duel. The “FU-JI-TA!” is fairly loud compared to the “DE-SU-PEY!” Despy and Fujita circle, tie up, and feel it out. They clinch, Fujita waistlocks, Despy facelocks, they move around, and Despy tries again. Fujita slips free to float for a later press but Despy’s right up. Despy facelocks yet again, Fujita slips to a waistlock, but Despy arm-drags for a wristlock. Fujita headscissors, Despy moves around, turns Fujita over, and then has the legs. Despy floats back to the facelock, but Fujita fights up to wrench and wristlock. Despy grabs the ROPEBREAK, and the fans applaud. Fujita lets off with pats on the shoulders, and fans cheer again.
Despy stays cool as he and Fujtia reset. They tie up again, and Despy hammerlocks. Fujita switches that onto Despy, Despy switches it back onto Fujita, and they go again and again and again! Despy spins Fujita to then wrangle him, but Fujita rolls to his feet. Despy wrenches, Fujita rolls through and CHOPS! Despy grins and CHOPS in return! The fans rally as Fujita comes back to CHOP! Despy grins again, and then CHOPS! Fujita fires up and CHOPS! The CHOPS keep going back and forth, faster and faster, and the fans rally up! Neither man is backing down, and the CHOPS just keep going faster and faster!
The fans fire up, and finally Despy feels it! Fujita CHOPS again, eggs Despy on, so Despy gets the fans fired up. Despy CHOPS and Fujita feels that one! Fujita grins and shakes out his arm to CHOP again! Despy almost laughs, then he comes back to CHOP! Fujita CHOPS, Despy CHOPS, and they’re back at it again! Despy CHOPS and Fujita feels that one! The fans fire up again, and Fujita comes back with another CHOP! And another CHOP! But then Despy ducks one to trip Fujita, STRETCH MUFFLER! Fujita scrambles to the ROPEBREAK! Despy drags Fujita back to SPLASH the leg! The fans rally while Despy feels that stinging in his chest.

Winner: El Desperado, by pinfall (still IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion)
Fujita put up a fight worthy of being The Mighty! But even though The Mighty Don’t Kneel, Fujita could not stand tall in the end! Despy is given the belt by Red Shoes, and he either taunts or motivates Fujita with it. Fujita stands to SLAP Despy, then he flops back down. He still has spirit, but what will it take for the Japanese Young Punk to become the Best of the Super Juniors?
As for Desperado, he gets the mic, and though the fans are cheering him, he says he’s had his fill, give it up for Fujita. The fans chant for Fujita now, proud of his fight. Despy then asks Fujita, “How about it? Frustrating, huh?” If the guy who beat him told the fans to cheer him on, Despy would probably crawl away into a hole somewhere. But does the Young Punk get it now? Yeah? Okay, good. Despy notes how during this Road to series, Fujita came after Despy pretty hard, but Despy knows Fujita has business to handle in Osaka, so good luck. Despy says it’s more fun when someone else is doing this, so he wants to wrap this up already.
The fans chuckle, and Despy dismisses Fujita so he can go home. Despy says when you work hard, sometimes you get hurt, even by your colleagues. But sometimes, they get support like this from the fans, and that makes it fun. It still hurts, but Despy still wants to do this. It’s also fun that fans can shout what they want, even if it’d upset Despy, but it’s fine here in this space. He even dares fans to say what they want, like he’s an idiot or he should just go home, even that he should die! So long as they come here to say it, he’ll welcome it.
Despy continues by saying he has a lot he still wants to do, and he even has an idea of who he wants to face next. The fans like the sound of that! Despy says he’s keeping it secret but the fans want to know! Despy says he’s not telling~! Now, Despy doesn’t have a match for Osaka next week, February 11th, but Hirooki Goto VS Zack Sabre Jr. sounds like a good time to him. He hopes everyone will still watch the rest of Road to New Beginning, thank you very much. Despy drops the mic, gets the official announcement that he is still the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion, and then he gets the streamers! Wait, his music cuts off?
And now, Francesco Akira’s music plays! The Nova Fireball makes his way out to the ring, and he grabs the mic now. Akira tells Desperado that he had an amazing match! Bravo, Despy, bravo! Akira says he still remembers tapping out to Despy two years ago, right here in Korakuen Hall. But even back then, Akira knew they were destined to battle for that title. That is why Akira is here today! The fans like the sound of that! Akira shifts to English to say, “Despy, I want this belt. And I want to take it from you in a special place for me.” He wants that match for the NJPW Anniversary Show in March! The fans cheer, and Akira pushes the mic back at Despy.
The fans cheer Akira on, and Despy says he remembers that match, too. Maybe not that it was two years ago or whatever, but it was in Best of the Super Juniors. Despy remembers he was giving Akira the runaround before TJP came to help. But Despy does remember that, and he remembers NJPW saying Akira’s name was one of the best. Despy’s a little surprised it took Akira this long to challenge him, especially when Despy hasn’t had the title that long. That said, Despy will gladly accept Akira’s challenge. The fans like the sound of that! But uh, donde esta tu jefe? Where is your boss? Where’s TJP? Doesn’t he need TJP’s approval?
Akira gets mad and shoves Despy! Despy shoves Akira back, things get heated, and Akira trips Despy! Akira throws hands and Young Lions hurry to stop this! Akira tells Despy not to screw around with him! Akira says he doesn’t need TJP, he doesn’t need anybody! Get back in here, Despy! Despy taunts Akira from afar, but then they both storm up to the center of the ring, even as Young Lions try to hold Akira back. Despy tells Akira to go home and calm down. Despy isn’t into Akira’s flash and fire, he shouldn’t just start a fight for no good reason. Who’s gonna have the title? Just listen to the song and you’ll understand.
Despy drops the mic and his music plays again. The New Beginning hasn’t even begun and things are getting spicy! Will Desperado turn down the heat on the Nova Fireball? Or will Akira finally blaze his own trail in NJPW?
My Thoughts:
A great event for Road to New Beginning, with a lot of great story stuff in post-match moments. Khan going after Shota’s hair as part of their feud is certainly an interesting move, given Khan really only has that ponytail now. At the same time, I don’t see Shota resetting back to a Young Lion buzzcut here. That could be a very interesting one right there. Taichi giving Sanada the win using the low blow was hilarious stuff, great comeuppance for Sanada. Their 1v1 match will be a lot of fun if trying to frame each other becomes their focus. LIJ and War Dogs ending in a count-out and then just brawling after is some good stuff, really adds to Yota VS Gabe for the Global Heavyweight Championship.
Chaos VS TMDK keeps happening to keep building up Goto VS ZSJ, not sure this one really added anything, other than seeing #BigJag Hartley taking a Shoto. Despy VS Fujita was awesome, though, probably Fujita’s best singles match yet. But in the end, great win for Despy, and then a somewhat surprising appearance by Akira. Despy pushing Akira’s buttons about how TJP is in charge was some good stuff. Despy VS Akira is going to be a great match for the Anniversary Show, but hard to say if Akira wins the title. The fans really like Despy, he’s been going strong, I’m not sure Akira has had that real breakthrough yet.
My Score: 8.8/10

The fans freak out already as ELP takes aim, “E! L! P!” SUPER CROSSBODY! Direct hit and the fans fire up! Both men are down and Red Shoes wants them to get to the ring. Winner: Jeff Cobb, by pinfall (still NJPW World Television Champion)
Cobb put a powerful fight worthy of a former champion like him. But in the end, he couldn’t “cancel” the Headbanga Show. ELP shows Cobb respect by helping him stand, but Cobb doesn’t want it! Cobb snatches the title, so that he can give it to ELP himself. Cobb shows ELP respect in return, but will Cobb be moving on to another title scene?
As for ELP, after catching his breath a bit, he grabs the mic to tell Korakuen Hall, “Daisuki desu! <I really like you~!>” The fans cheer that! ELP grabs a second mic so “Papa Jado” can also speak. Is he feeling good? Jado says yeah, he’s feeling good! ELP asks Korakuen if they feel good, and the fans cheer that they do. “Sugoi. <Amazing.>” ELP apologizes, he knows little Japanese. But ELP knows Jado knows a lot of Japanese! Maybe Jado can translate? Jado says yeah, it’s all good! The fans applaud, and ELP says it has been a long time since he was in the main event of NJPW! And yes, Jado translates.
The fans cheer, and ELP says he won’t use this time to put himself over. Jado hesitates, he isn’t sure how “put myself over” would translate… Jado just goes with, “Good luck with that.” ELP says he doesn’t want fans to cheer him, he wants fans to cheer for all the guys in the back who drove the bus for 9.5 HOURS to get here from Morioka. Jado translates that, and the fans do cheer. ELP wants fans to cheer for the cameramen who film this all day, while ELP only has to wrestle 15 minutes. The fans cheer already, and Jado still isn’t sure how to translate. ELP simplifies it to: I love the cameramen who work so hard. Jado can do that.
ELP wants cheers for Milano Collection AT and Hiroshi Tanahashi on commentary. They do way more work than him, so cheer them. The fans do cheer, but Jado’s translation is more about teasing Milano & Tanahashi than praising. ELP also points to the timekeeper, and English commentary’s Walker Stewart, who is doing this for like, the 12 English speaking fans who watch this live! The fans do cheer, and ELP says F Clark Connors, the guest commentator. ELP thanks the referees and office staff who help set up the ring and tear it down every show, and Jado translates. ELP says there are a lot of people who deserve more love than him.
So for everyone who isn’t a wrestler, but who makes NJPW run on a daily basis, make some noise! The fans cheer, and ELP says hold on, this is for the Osaka fans. ELP isn’t on the New Beginning show, but he will do an autograph signing there because of all the love they showed when he had his little cancer thing back then. “Osaka, see you soon.” The fans cheer, and ELP tells Korakuen, “I am the Headbanga! I am the NJPW World TV Champion! And I am… E! L! P!” The fans join in on that! Will The Headbanga Show continue to be the people’s show?
My Thoughts:
A great continuation of Road to New Beginning, though about as much filler as before, too. I do appreciate that Tanahashi is doing this series of “Final Road Connection” matches. With these Young Lions still in that phase of their career, Tanahashi will never get to wrestle them when they’re established stars, so this is nice of him as a veteran, an icon, a legend, to be giving back and paying it forward. Good stuff in the other matches, too, and Sanada finding another way to get Taichi disqualified is actually hilarious. Sanada is really leaning into being a sneaky, underhanded Heel, I feel like his blowoff with Taichi should be No Disqualifications just so he can’t frame Taichi.
The 10 Man Tag was good stuff, and with TMDK having won last time in the main event, it made sense for Goto’s team to win this time. It was also mostly to build momentum for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship match tomorrow, and the tag title match for New Beginning in Osaka. Desperado VS Fujita is going to be great, but I don’t know if Fujita & Eagles really become a Junior Heavyweight Two Man Power Trip. The NJPW World TV Championship was a great main event, and that was a great win for ELP. ELP also gave a great promo where he showed love and appreciation for all the NJPW non-wrestler and production staff. Naturally he has a new lease on life, he’s learning to be grateful for everything, so this was a great way to show that.
My Score: 8.7/10
