Microsoft Reportedly Bringing Xbox 360 Games to PC

Microsoft is reportedly developing a program that would allow publishers to bring backward-compatible Xbox 360 games to PC.

The initiative would build upon the company’s previously announced plan to make original Xbox titles available on PC. Participating publishers would decide which games enter the program, how they are priced and whether they are included with Game Pass.

The expanded library is expected to work across Windows PCs, Xbox-branded handhelds and Microsoft’s upcoming Project Helix hardware. A wider rollout is reportedly being targeted for 2027 or 2028.

The program could become one of Microsoft’s strongest arguments for treating Xbox as an ecosystem rather than a single console.

Backward compatibility has traditionally been limited by hardware generations and licensing agreements. Making Xbox 360 games available on PC would give publishers another opportunity to preserve older releases while allowing players to carry more of their gaming history onto newer devices.

The greatest challenge will be participation. A technical framework means little if publishers leave major games trapped on older hardware because of expired music, character or distribution licenses.

Moonlighter Is Free Before Its Sequel Leaves Early Access

The original Moonlighter is free to claim permanently on Steam through August 9.

The promotion arrives after developer Digital Sun confirmed that Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault will leave early access and receive its full release on September 2.

The sequel will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. It will also launch through Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass.

Giving away the first game is an effective way to introduce players to the series’ unusual combination of dungeon exploration and shop management before the sequel arrives.

The original Moonlighter earned attention because collecting treasure was only half of the experience. Players also had to determine what those items were worth, manage customers and use their profits to strengthen both their store and their character.

The sequel now has to prove that expanding the visuals and combat will not overwhelm the quieter management systems that made the first game distinctive.

Kylo Ren’s Fall Begins Again This Week

Marvel Comics will release Star Wars: The Fall of Kylo Ren #1 on Wednesday, August 12.

The new series is written by Charles Soule with artwork by Will Sliney. It explores Ben Solo’s transformation into Kylo Ren and the beginning of his attempt to build a new order around the legacy of Darth Vader.

The first issue continues Soule’s work with the character after previously chronicling Ben’s departure from Luke Skywalker’s Jedi school in The Rise of Kylo Ren.

Ben Solo’s fall remains one of the most important stories the sequel trilogy left largely outside the movies.

Audiences saw the aftermath of his decision, but much of the emotional and political journey between Jedi student and First Order leader happened elsewhere. Comics can fill those gaps, but they also expose a recurring Star Wars problem: some of the context most necessary to understanding the films has been left to supplemental material.

The new series has an opportunity to make Kylo Ren’s choices feel more deliberate without reducing every decision to manipulation by Palpatine or Vader’s shadow.

Reacher Returns for Season 4

Reacher returns to Prime Video on Wednesday, August 12, with the first three episodes of its fourth season.

Alan Ritchson returns as Jack Reacher, with the season placing the former military investigator at the center of another conspiracy after he fails to prevent a deadly incident on a New York subway.

Prime Video has already renewed the series for a fifth season. The franchise will also expand with Neagley, a spinoff starring Maria Sten that premieres September 16 after the Reacher season finale.

Prime Video is no longer treating Reacher as merely a successful adaptation. It is becoming one of the platform’s foundational franchises.

That expansion carries risk. Part of the show’s appeal is its directness: Reacher arrives somewhere, identifies a problem and dismantles it through investigation, intimidation and overwhelming force.

A larger universe can work, but only if Amazon avoids turning a deliberately straightforward series into another franchise burdened by homework and unnecessary connections.

What to Watch This Week

The coming week includes several notable releases across television, streaming and comics.

The X-Men ’97 finale faces a different test. A season finale must resolve the immediate conflict while leaving enough emotional and narrative momentum for whatever Marvel Animation plans next.

Microsoft’s reported Xbox initiative represents the day’s most consequential long-term development.

New hardware receives most of the gaming industry’s attention, but access to older software determines whether each generation becomes part of the medium’s history or slowly disappears behind obsolete machines and expired licenses.

The remaining stories are also built around extending established worlds without exhausting them. Moonlighter is preparing to grow into a larger sequel, Marvel is adding another chapter to Kylo Ren’s history and Amazon is turning Reacher into a broader television franchise.

For fans, expansion only matters when it preserves what made the original experience worth returning to. More access, more stories and more connected projects can be valuable—but only when they deepen the world rather than simply making it larger.
