2. Going to TNA

TNA’s reputation for taking up former WWE & WCW stars was already well known by 2010 but it was still a big deal when Hogan signed with them. His official role was as a creative consultant appearing on TV as an authority figure.

A lot of Hogan’s decisions severely damaged the reputation of the company. Instead of helping them become a viable alternative to WWE he turned them into WWE light and tried to compete with WWE. He took away the 6-sided ring which set TNA apart and had them move to Mondays directly opposite RAW where they were destroyed in the ratings.

While Hogan had been around for a long time he was not experienced in a creative role. His time with the company created the stigma around them which they’ve only now just started to shake.

1. The Racism Scandal

2015 wasn’t the best year for WWE. Legends died, their roster was rocked by injuries but undoubtedly the biggest thing was the leak of Hogan’s racist remarks in his sex tape. WWE as a publicly traded company felt it was best to distance themselves from Hogan banning all mention of him, removing all merchandise from their website and removing him from the hall of fame.

To go from one of the most celebrated and recognizable figures in the company to essentially being blacklisted was a big shift.

While he’s back in the company the black cloud of this scandal still hangs over him. The debate still rages on if Hogan really is a racist or was this just a dumb mistake that was caught on tape? Either way was it right to fire him and in turn bring him back. I have a feeling people will be arguing about this long after Hogan is gone.
