Mitchell’s Talking Smack Report! (5/1/21)
Talking Smack, it’s gonna be May!
What is the fallout of The Tribal Chief VS The Yes Movement?
After a BIG Friday Night SmackDown, there’s plenty of Talking Smack to go around! What will Paul Heyman say about Roman Reigns beating Daniel Bryan?
Kayla Braxton welcomes us back to the show!
She asks Paul Heyman how he’s feeling, and he must be feeling good. She won’t get to it now because he’ll surely get to it before the end of the show. How does he feel overall? “With my hands.” Well his snark aside, Kayla really likes the tie and pocket square. She’s sure Heyman feels proud of himself for putting that ensemble together. Would he like to tell us his process? The process was he gets out of the shower naked and looks at himself in a full length mirror. Should he continue? No, that’s quite alright.
If you’re going to subject Heyman to a deposition, ask him questions you want the answers to. “Realize the legend that you’re sitting next to. Don’t ask me questions that you don’t really want the answer to.” Heyman is the Special Counsel to the Tribal Chief, and after the Friday night Roman Reigns had, he is not one to trifle with. So he’s happy? WhAt An ObSeRvAtIoN~! Well, every week on SmackDown, she tries to get a straight answer out of him and he never gives it, so she just wanted an answer. He’s the son of a lawyer, he’s been trained how to react. So go ahead, ask him another question, anything she wants. Well, she knows he’ll give his real opinion by the end of the show.
Heyman promises, one question! Then what about the Six Person Tag that opened SmackDown? Bianca Belair & The Street Profits won against Bayley & The Dirty Dawgs. Does Heyman think Bianca will walk out of #WrestleManiaBacklash still SmackDown Women’s Champion in two weeks? How many things did Kayla just say? This, that, Backlash, two weeks…! Hello!? Has Kayla not heard “less is more?” Get to the core of the issue! The core is: What did Heyman think of Daniel Bryan on SmackDown? Go to his hospital bed and find out! “Thank you, Roman Reigns. Next.”
In that case, yes, let’s move on. Roman Reigns defended and retained the Universal Championship, so unfortunately for Daniel Bryan, he is gone from SmackDown. They’ll get to that later, so let’s get to their first guest tonight before Heyman makes this episode about Roman. We have the self-proclaimed future WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions of the world, the Queen of Harts and Daughter of Superfly!
Natalya & Tamina join Talking Smack!
Natty wants to get right to the point! They ARE statement makers, bone breakers, title takers, but have more than proven they deserve another shot at the titles. Tamina says she’s got this. “I don’t even need to really address Shayna. You may be a great Mixed Martial Artist, but I’ve got the Dungeon on my side! And nobody beats that Sharpshooter!” But Tamina will get at Nia now! “SIS! You have disrespected me. And you may not think I know what I’m doing. But I have come here with passion! I don’t care if you may have been here, and you think that you know better than me, but you don’t!” Tamina gets even more fired up as she says, “THIS IS OUR PLACE!”
Heyman cowers as Tamina shouts, “DO YOU HEAR ME?! DO YOU FEEL MY PASSION!?” Tamina storms off, and even Natty needs to take a moment. Natty says she’s going to make sure Tamina is okay, and she takes her leave. Kayla is speechless, as is Heyman. They’ve never seen Tamina like this. She’s been here for over a decade, and that is a Tamina we’ve all been waiting to see. She has put the locker room on notice, especially the tag champs. Tamina & Natty are surely not stopping until they have the gold. What does Heyman think? Heyman won’t say anything, he might piss her off. That’s a good idea. But we should all keep our eyes on Tamina & Natty. Talking Smack will be back with more, after a quick break.
Apollo Crews and Commander Azeez join Talking Smack!
Apollo sets the Intercontinental Championship down and asks if they missed him. Very much. Before they get going, he wants to say that these people have annoyed him so much. Did they see that nonsense? There are so many people after him, he’s had to put double locks on his locker room! They are all out to get him! Big E, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, they all go after him after he had a WAR with Big E, and they all tried to take what is Apollo’s. Apollo has Azeez here to watch his back. Kayla wants to speak but Apollo says he is not finished. She apologizes.
Apollo says he understands how Roman feels now! He understands it very well, having the title and everyone wants to get to him. Apollo understands just what it is like to be in Roman’s position. But Apollo says he will do just like the Tribal Chief did, and win! He will beat everyone that gets in his way! And by the way, congratulations to Roman for that victory against Daniel Bryan. Not just a victory, but an elimination! Bryan is gone! No more SmackDown! And just that same way that the Tribal Chief did that to Bryan, Apollo wants us to believe him when he says he will eliminate Kevin, Sami and even Big E. And then after that, Apollo, Heyman, Roman and Azeez “SIR!” can celebrate! Kayla, sorry, you’re not invited.
Apollo and Heyman shake hands, no questions, fire up the jet! Kayla says a talk show should have questions, but why is Heyman so smug right now? First smart question Kayla has asked today. Brilliant answer incoming. “Because this is the effect that Roman Reigns has on great superstars like Apollo Crews.” So they’re taking the credit for this? How DARE you, Kayla! False narrative! Heyman does not take credit! He deserves no credit for the greatness of Apollo Crews. That all goes to Roman Reigns, “the man that after all these years, was THE champion to put down the Yes Movement.” Kayla asks if Heyman is finished. Yes, he is. Then after the break, we’ll welcome the Architect!
Seth Rollins joins Talking Smack!
Heyman wants things to stop a second, so that he can bring up the commercial we just saw for WWE supporting the vaccine. Rollins was more upset about this show playing his OLD MUSIC! Oh yes, that, too! But yes, we all saw DANIEL BRYAN on a commercial that aired on TALKING SMACK! Being this is an extension of SmackDown, that is not right! Heyman apologizes to us being “exposed to Daniel Bryan, even in commercial form, because Daniel Bryan does not exist on any SmackDown branded property anymore, and that is thanks to the accomplishments and the achievements of your Tribal Chief, your Universal Champion, Roman Reigns.” Rollins applauds this public apology.
Heyman says Rollins is a visionary, whose entrance was ruined by he had to follow “such an egregious production error” as to put Bryan on this show, “when his ass doesn’t belong on SmackDown anymore!” Rollins says it’s fine, and Heyman gives Kayla the floor. Oh she can talk now? Hooray! Rollins then says he is on cloud nine! Heyman says he spends quite a bit of money on wardrobe, but Rollins’ fashion sense blows him away. Fashion Nova should give Rollins a section for his own fashion vision. Rollins likes this! Let’s do this all night. And congrats to Roman Reigns, an incredible main event on SmackDown. Rollins was on the edge of his seat, and the outcome is chef’s kiss, as the kids say.
Rollins does want to apologize, though. He saw Cesaro stick his nose in Roman’s business, and Rollins doesn’t get where Cesaro is coming from or why he thinks it’s appropriate to do that. Cesaro is looking past Rollins, because next week’s SmackDown, Rollins will do something special. Rollins took some notes, he’s motivated to do to Cesaro what Roman did to Bryan. After everything Cesaro’s put Rollins through, Rollins is excited to get back at him. Kayla, go ahead. Kayla says Cesaro might do what he did at WrestleMania, though. Is he going to get caught up in the swing again? No tat all! They’re in the ThunderDome, they’re inside, indoors! That means no chance of weather delays!
Do you know how many times in the history of Mania there was weather delay? Once. Exactly! One time! Is Kayla a supreme athlete? Heyman says, “No.” Is Rollins a supreme athlete? Heyman says, “Yes!” Exactly! And athletes do things on time! They have a very specific routine! And if that gets thrown off by even just a few minutes, let alone a half hour, it’s all out the door. As far as Rollins is concerned, the result at Mania is moot. The clock is ticking, Cesaro doesn’t stand a chance.
Kayla asks how Heyman feels about this. If Heyman had time, which he doesn’t as Special Counsel to Roman Reigns, Heyman would get a battery of lawyers to get an injunction to show why the result of Rollins VS Cesaro should be expunged! It was a travesty of justice! The worst decision WWE has ever made, other than making Kayla host of Talking Smack. The proof is in the pudding! Night two had no delay, everything was as it should have, Roman managed to stack ’em, beat ’em, whatever it was, Rollins hasn’t memorized the shirt. As far as last night, it was pack ’em! Sent Bryan packing! And Edge, too! Where’d he go? Hiding on some mountain in Carolina maybe.
Has Kayla ever been in the ring? Anyone in the peanut gallery? Heyman “hates” to say this, but she’s been in the ring, holding a mic for someone else! And she has the GALL to sit here and call Rollins out for excuses! Kayla wouldn’t know a thing for carrying the ratings or being in the ring, so don’t test Rollins! Then why is Rollins so confident that next week, he walks out winner over Cesaro? Because he’s Seth Freakin’ Rollins! Rollins says she’s making excuses! He’s given his reasons as to why the Mania result should be taken out! All valid reasons, any court would agree. Kayla’s opinion is different, and that makes her wrong. Next week will be a different story and we’ll see.
In that case, Kayla looks forward to talking to Rollins next time. Is that an invitation back? Heyman says he has an open invitation. And the RIGHT music plays! Rollins is happy to hear that, and after another break, Heyman will take the floor.
Talking Smack returns and Heyman speaks.
Kayla knows he has plenty to say about Roman, Roman and Roman, so it’s all his. He stares at Kayla a moment before speaking. “In WCW, I took a kid under my wing. And when the time was appropriate, I delivered him to the doorstep of Vincent Kennedy McMahon, and he went on to become The Undertaker. That’s how long I’ve been associated with ‘the brains behind true greatness’ in this industry.” And of course, when it came time for that first investment to be harvested, The Streak was conquered by The Beast. Heyman was with Steve Austin before he was Stone Cold. You can watch the A&E documentary, and Austin gives Heyman credit for giving him that mindset.
Heyman was the voice of the Voice of the Voiceless. “You look at the greatness that I’ve been associated with, that I’ve driven, that I’ve inspired for 34 years in this business, and what am I with Roman Reigns? Forget the Special Counsel, I’m in awe of Roman Reigns.” This is a GOAT among GOATS, and Heyman has NEVER seen greatness like this. “Daniel Bryan is gone, off of SmackDown permanently. How many people have tried to stop the Yes Movement in the past decade? How many people in 20 years have tried to take Daniel Bryan out? This man has gone through it all. Who ended it? Roman Reigns.” You seen Edge anywhere lately?
Edge had such an injury that he had multiple surgeries, they had to use a hammer to break pieces off his HIP to make the bone material to fuse into his neck so he could simply FEEL his arms and have mobility! So that Edge could MOVE! What stopped Edge? Roman Reigns. “And now there’s Cesaro. I’m glad Cesaro doesn’t have a wife, I’m glad Cesaro doesn’t have kids, because then he doesn’t have to be embarrassed and humiliated when he backs out of this situation. And Cesaro, for your own good, you better back out of this situation.
“Humpty Swiss Superman sat on a wall, Humpty Swiss Superman will have a great fall. All the SmackDown creative and all the McMahons will not put Humpty Swiss Superman back together again. Not when he comes up against your Tribal Chief! Now when he comes up against the End All, Be All! Not when he comes up against the Head of the Table! Not when he comes up against the Savage Samoan that eviscerated the Yes Movement into a Requiem for a Danielson! Not when he comes up against the Reigns-ing, Defending, Undisputed, Uncontroverted WWE Universal Heavyweight Champion, THE GOAT, the Greatest of All Time, he doesn’t just beat you, he drives your ass out of here, Roman… Reigns.” Heyman has issued his ultimatum, will Cesaro heed the warning?
My Thoughts:
This was a strong episode that followed a strong SmackDown. Tamina had amazing fire and she really is scary. She and Natty better get those belts at Backlash or this is a bunch of hoosifudge. Tamina hasn’t had a belt ever, this is the time for her to finally get something. Apollo had a good segment where he refused to be asked anything and instead ranted on about all his contenders coming after him, and I hope him using “eliminate” as the key word will give us a Fatal 4 Elimination for the title. A match like that would be worthy of the title and of all the intertwining stories of Apollo, Big E, Kevin and Sami.
Rollins’ segment was great, I like that he wants the Mania match expunged over the circumstances out of anyone’s control. The rematch is going to be awesome, though, that’s for sure. Though, next week is also Throwback Night so will that get in the way? That’d be hilarious because Rollins could continue to complain and claim the match isn’t valid. And of course, Heyman has yet another masterful promo and I can’t wait for Roman VS Cesaro, even if Cesaro will end up losing.

Chairshot News Report: TNA Impact Results, AEW Speculation For Ricochet & Shane McMahon, Vince McMahon, More!
Your Wrestling News for July 5, 2024, including TNA Impact, Ricochet, Shane McMahon, his daddy Vince, and more!
Your Wrestling News for July 5, 2024, including TNA Impact, Ricochet, Shane McMahon, his daddy Vince, and more!
Welcome to your daily dose of pro wrestling news–and analysis you can trust! We take all wrestling news with a grain of salt here at The Chairshot, and we hope to steer you in the right direction.
Results: TNA Impact (July 4, 2024)
Here are your results from Thursday night’s edition of TNA Impact (originally taped on June 28 at the 2300 Arena in Philly):
- Trey Miguel vs. Leon Slater ends in a no-contest after WWE NXT star Charlie Dempsey attacks everyone.
- Dani Luna battled Jody Threat to a time limit draw in the 10-Minute Challenge. They were granted the customary “5 more minutes” but were attacked by Alisha Edwards & Masha Slamovich. During the match it was revealed that Nic Nemeth had been attacked backstage.
- Frankie Kazarian defeated Mike Santana by countout to advance to the TNA World Championship Match at Slammiversary.
- Matt Hardy & Reby Hardy beat Eddie Edwards & Alisha Edwards.
- Joe Hendry pinned Jake Something to advance to the TNA World Championship Match at Slammiversary.
No surprise that Joe Hendry advanced to the world title match, but Santana-Kazarian could have gone either way. A promo video to end the show implied that Kazarian was the one who took out Nic Nemeth backstage, seemingly creating a story for them within the Slammiversary title match. No shocker that The Hardys won the tag team match, but a great surprise with Charlie Dempsey getting involved in the opener. That TNA/NXT collaboration continues to be a lot of fun.
You can catch Andrew’s Review of the event here.
Ricochet Expected To Sign With AEW
Many outlets are reporting that Ricochet’s expected landing spot remains AEW, with additional reports surfacing that his agent has been working out the details on his behalf.
Personally, I’d rather see him back in WWE. Even after an initial push in AEW, he will be a novelty act much like PAC, so I don’t see the difference. But if he’s going to AEW, here’s hoping that agent does a great job and secures quite the bag for ol’ Ric.
Vince Russo Suggests Shane McMahon As A Front Man For Vince McMahon to Purchase AEW
”We saw this with WCW, it happened before. It (purchasing AEW) could be under the guise of Shane, that’s what I’m saying. Shane is as clean as whistle. Vince could be behind it without anybody knowing it, bro.”
Those are the words of Vince Russo, who on the surface seems to be spouting nonsense. Time will tell if there is something to it all, but I wouldn’t place any wagers on this one. Shane McMahon to AEW would be an entertaining shocker, but that–like many things in AEW–would quickly wear off.
Shawn Michaels Discusses NXT Releases, Referencing Drew Gulak
During the NXT Heatwave media call, Shawn Michaels was asked about the release of Gable Steveson, but also lumped Drew Gulak in his response about main roster viability:
“From my understanding, nothing on anyone’s part other than contracts being up. Certainly, in the place of Drew Gulak. From a company standpoint, there not being anything from a main roster standpoint that they were going to be using him in. In NXT, over the last year and a half to two years, we’ve been trying to get into the process of keeping it fluid. It’s all about getting to the main roster when everything is said and done. In two or three years, if that doesn’t happen, we bring other people in or see if we’re ready to move on.”
If anything, it’s a stark reminder that NXT still exists to, above all else, populate the main roster. It’s quite the delicate balance between booking your own television show and preparing for the future, one that HBK has arguably done better than Triple H himself.
Other Odds & Ends:
- According to reports, the mini-stroke referenced by Britt Baker (DMD) on AEW Dynamite is legitimate. If so, both she and Adam Cole have been through a ton over the past 24 months.
- Mason Madden (Mace) and Mansoor, now known as the MxM Collection, showed up in ROH when featured in a vignette on this week’s broadcast. They might not have made it in WWE, but it’s good to see them getting work, and a second chance to make this gimmick their own. YEAH!
- Cody Rhodes continues to be the ultimate good dude, this time helping a fan who won tickets to Money In The Bank actually attend the event. The fan who won the tickets is in a wheelchair, and there were no more accessible seats left. That was, of course, until Cody got involved. Now the fan can be there and enjoy the show as intended when he won the contest. Cody wins again!

Did your picks win points?
The AEW Continental Classic is underway, with almost everyone competing. Check in here if you haven’t seen the winners and losers of week 1!
Here are your Gold League standings!
- Jon Moxley: 1-0, 3 points
- Swerve Strickland: 1-0, 3 points
- Jay White: 1-0, 3 points
- Rush: 0-1, 0 points
- Mark Briscoe: 0-1, 0 points.
- Jay Lethal: 0-1, 0 points
Here are your Blue League standings!
- Brody King: 1-0, 3 points
- Claudio Castagnoli: 1-0, 3 points
- Daniel Garcia: 0-1, 0 points
- Eddie Kingston: 0-1, 0 points
- Bryan Danielson: Yet to Compete
- Andrade El Idolo: Yet to Compete
My Thoughts:
Nothing too crazy, nothing too wild, this tournament only just got started. The only disappointing point is that they could not get Bryan “cleared to compete” Saturday night. Not sure how much of that is shoot given the bad eye, but this was kinda the problem of wanting him in the tournament over tons of other choices. Bryan wants to face Okada for WrestleKingdom 18, how is Bryan supposed to do that at his best if he’s also gonna be in a round robin, doing five top level matches in about as many weeks? And it takes away from Andrade being able to do something. Also a little surprised we didn’t even hear from Andrade on Saturday.
Now as we heard on Saturday, round two’s matches are set. Gold League will see Mark Briscoe VS Rush, White VS Swerve, and of course, Moxley VS Lethal. Nice variety there, a couple 0-1 guys facing off, as well as two 1-0 guys, and then 1-0 VS 0-1. No offense to Lethal, but he feels like an 0-2 going up against Moxley. Hard to call the other ones but that’s the fun of it. Meanwhile, Blue League sees Brody VS Claudio in a showdown to be 2-0, then Bryan and Andrade finally jump in, Bryan against Eddie and Andrade against Garcia. Sadly, feels like Eddie and Garcia are going 0-2, no way Tony Khan is booking Bryan and Andrade to lose their first shots.
In fact, that could be half the reason they did wait on those two, that’s almost too good for just a first round opener. But I still would’ve done it, same as NJPW does stuff like that for round robins, which this is all modeled after anyway.
