Waller gets lucky that he pulled that buckle pad off earlier. Solo couldn’t beat steel, and the steel helped Waller beat Solo! Will Waller be the one waiting on the other side of tonight’s main event?

Backstage with Tony D’Angelo and the Family.

McKenzie asks Tony D about tonight’s big night. It is, isn’t it? Legado can get on Tony’s right side if they beat Roderick Strong & Damon Kemp tonight, and if Tony gets the gold against Carmelo Hayes tonight. The acquisition of Legado hasn’t really gone as planned, though. How does Tony plan to turn that around? Well, there’s always growing pains in “business mergers” like this. Elektra Lopez is doing what she’s told, and the Legado boys can prove themselves here tonight. Right, Santos? Oh, yes, absolutely, Don. Because if Tony walks out of here and is NOT champion, there will be hell to pay.

Santos tells “boss” not to worry about it. They’ve got this. Okay, good. Let’s go. Legado follows Tony out, but will things go as the Don wishes?

The Irish Ace is coming.

“Do you hear that? That’s the winds of change. I think the winds of change are blowing here in NXT 2.0. If I have to leave my home, my penthouse overlooking my city, Dublin City, you know it’s for a damn good reason. You’ll find out why soon enough. And everyone in NXT 2.0 is gonna find out why you never bet against an ace.” Jordan Devlin “JD” McDonagh comes to NXT!

Katana Chance & Kayden Carter VS ???

After falling short to Toxic Attraction, KC Squared is back to get the party going again! Will Katana & Kayden kick things up a notch and find their way back? Or will they have a meltdown in this Summer heat?

NXT returns and joining the fiesta is Yulisa Leon & Valentina Feroz! The teams sort out and Kayden starts against Leon and fans cheer for the dancing. Wes Lee is here!

The Must-See Kid has been getting wins all on his own, but for some reason, he still looks troubled. Wes gets the mic to say, “I have to thank you all. It truly is a blessing for me to remain here, to still receive this love from you all.” Fans cheer that, because “You Deserve It!” Wes thanks them for that, and says this right now is very much needed after these past few months. He’s gone from the highest of highs, to quite possibly the lowest of lows. He went from being your TWO-TIME NXT Tag Team Champion, reigning supreme with his best friend, his brother, just to have their world explode right from under their feet.

But Wes says that after all that, he’ll wear his tears proudly because while his world had crumbled and he is left sifting through the rubble, all he seems to find is pain and anger. And it was consuming him to the point where he was not acting like himself. From Xyon to Sanga, Wes was trying to prove himself. He was trying to show that Wes Lee can stand on his own two feet and do what he needs to do! But before he can continue, here comes Trick Williams! And Trick tells Wes to shut up, because no one wants to hear about how lonely he is or how his brother exploded or whatever he just said.

Trick says the truth is, Wes left his brother behind. Maybe Wes isn’t the friend he pretends to be. Maybe Wes’ boy is gone because Wes was the one who messed up. Wes says Trick has NO idea how Wes was there for that man. NO IDEA how they had to rise together to get where they were. And Trick will never understand, because he remains second fiddle to his homeboy. And with all the hype Trick throws at that man, does Trick have any left for himself? As Wes stands here in this ring, he’s waiting to find out what it is. Trick tells “Afro Thunder” to hold on. They don’t work on Wes Time, they work on Trick Time. And Trick’s time is money!

So here’s what’s what. Trick will let Wes know when he’s ready. Or better yet, Trick will do how Wes’ friends did him: he’ll just leave. Trick does in fact leave, leaving Wes seething. When will Trick step up to face Wes in the ring rather than on the mic?

Tiffany Stratton sits down to speak.

“You wanna know what I think of Wendy Choo? How much time do we have? Because we’re gonna be here awhile.” When Tiffany thinks of Wendy, the first word to come to mind is “tragic.” Like, when you see someone who sucks at life like Wendy, you feel bad. Not for her, but for everyone who has to be around her. Look at Tiffany’s style, and then look at “Frumpy.” Tiffany doesn’t want to know what that closet looks like, with all the onesies. It’d give Tiffany nightmares. Has Wendy ever won anything? Ever lifted 200 pounds over her head in the gym? Or ever even been to a gym? Or even known someone named Jim?! Not including imaginary friends.

Tiffany says everyone is jealous of her, so she can’t blame Wendy for that. But she can blame Wendy for ruining Tiffany’s ring gear and ruining her match last week. Tiffany tells the Peter Pan reject to stay away, or else she’ll put Wendy to sleep for good! “And we’re done here. Tootles.” Tiffany sure talks a lot, but will Wendy make Tiffany put her daddy’s money where her mouth is?

Legado del Fantasma VS Roderick Strong & Damon Kemp!

The Don told Cruz Del Toro & Joaquin Wilde to win “or else,” but the pressure is also on Diamond Mine as the Savior of the Backbreaker has to back up his own tough talk. Who does their faction proud with a victory here tonight?

NXT returns and leading the way for Legado is Stacks & Two Dimes, apparently keeping an eye on them in Tony’s place. The teams sort out, Strong starts with Wilde and they tie right up. Wilde headlocks, Strong powers up and SLAMS Wilde down! Strong gets Wilde’s arm, bends the fingers then the arm, but Wilde fights up. Strong facelocks, headlocks, but Wilde powers up. Cruz tags in, Legado double elbow Strong down, then Electric Chair SPALSH to a LIONSAULT! Cover, ONE, but Cruz goes after Strong. Strong scurries to the corner and tags Kemp. Kemp shoots in, brings Cruz down, then brings him around with a gator roll.

Kemp waistlocks, Cruz switches, the two break and fans rally up. Strong tells Kemp to keep on Cruz but Kemp doesn’t even know how Cruz escaped. Strong calls Kemp over, and SLAPS him to fire him up! Kemp nods, and he waistlocks then POWERSLAMS Cruz! Then a deadlift suplex! Then a SPEAR! Fans fire up, Wilde gets in, but Kemp catches him for an OVERHEAD Belly2Belly onto Cruz! Kemp then rains down forearms on Cruz! Kemp drags Cruz up with a facelock, he tags Strong in, and Diamond Mine mugs Cruz. Strong CHOPS and Cruz falls over! Strong stands Cruz up but Cruz slips away.

Tag to Kemp, tag to Wilde, but Wilde dodges Strong and goes up and over to run him over! Wilde runs, dodges Strong, and SLINGBLADE DDT’s! Kemp gets in finally but Wilde JAWBREAKERS him! Wilde clotheslines Kemp in a corner, clotheslines Strong in a corner, but Strong hits a BACKBREKER and Kemp adds a LARIAT! Kemp pushes Wilde to a cover, TWO! Kemp rains down fists on Wilde, sits him up into a chinlock, and Stacks & Dimes are both upset. Fans rally, Wilde fights up, and Wilde throws body shots. Kemp whips and scoops Wilde for a BIG SLAM! But Wilde avoids the elbow drop!

Fans fire up, Wilde and Kemp crawl, hot tags to Cruz and Strong! Cruz springboard CROSSBODIES! Then LARIATS! Then dropkicks! Strong gets up again, but Cruz tilt-o-whirl headscissors him to a corner! Cruz runs in to GAMANGIRI, then snapmare! Cruz is up top fast and fans fire up as he missile dropkicks Strong down! Cover, TWO! Strong survives but Cruz brings him up. Strong avoids the pump handle by getting ropes. Strong elbows Cruz away, then turns things around for a BIG back suplex! Cover, Wilde breaks it! Kemp rushes in but Wilde sends him out, to PLANCHA! Direct hit and fans fire up again!

Cruz suplexes, Strong blocks to suplex back, but Cruz slips out! Cruz UPPERCUTS Strong, but Strong CLUBS Cruz on the back! Cruz PELES Strong! Cruz whips, Strong reverses, and Dimes trips Cruz up with a crowbar?! Stacks points out Dimes did it to the wrong guy, and Strong KNEES Cruz down!! Cover, Diamond Mine wins!!

Winners: Roderick Strong & Damon Kemp, by pinfall

Dimes realizes he just screwed up! Will Tony have something to say about that? Will the Creed Brothers accept this as Strong living the Diamond Mine life?

Backstage interview with Giovanni Vinci.

McKenzie says he had an impressive victory in his debut. Giovanni tells McKenzie, “Standing before you right now is the most supreme athlete in NXT. Last week, a statement was made, a message was sent, but it was sent in style. I know Bron Breakker was watching. I know Carmelo Hayes was watching. Diamond Mine, the entire locker room, everybody knows that a top tier talent just walked through the door, in style.” Ikemen Jiro rushes over and says he saw Giovanni! He sees he has style, but is he #StyleStrong? Jiro wants to find out. Jiro shows off his jacket as he exits, and Giovanni rants in Italian. Is Jiro serious? Will Giovanni find out for himself soon enough?

Apollo Crews speaks.

“Do I have what it takes? Will this work? How will people perceive me? Fear lives inside of everyone. But you can’t run from fear, you have to confront it. It’s easy to look at the man in the mirror and say you will, but what happens when that opportunity presents itself? That’s the difference between who you see before, and who you see now: Fearless.” Someone warns Apollo now to go down a certain road, there’s nothing but trouble. And at this very moment, Apollo can see thugs mugging someone.

Apollo envisions how he’ll stop the thugs: one will step up, get bopped; the second, gets a knee; the third gets the wall. Apollo then executes his plan. Will he show NXT that he has no fear, and will do what it takes to do what is right?

Toxic Attraction is here!

Mandy Rose, Gigi Dolin & Jacy Jayne still hold the NXT Women’s and Women’s Tag Team Championships after In Your House, but they’re coming off a loss in last week’s Six Woman Tag main event. Not that their collective confidence seems to be affected. They get the mics, and Mandy says she wants to make something clear: “Last week, Roxanne Perez and her two reject friends might’ve had a fluke victory. But they’re still losers! I mean, Roxanne’s walking around on a high horse lately. She thinks she’s on top of the world. I mean, it’s embarrassing, honestly. All of her dreams are becoming a reality~! Please.

“What’s next? She’s gonna start imagining my title around her waist when she plays with her action figures at home? Disgusting.” Gigi says this isn’t play time, this isn’t a video game or a fairy tale, and Roxie damn sure ain’t Cinderella. She’s gonna get a reality check, and it will be toxic. When the pressure’s on, Roxie will realize she’s not on their level. Jacy tells Roxie to ask Cora about folding under pressure. She’s become a pro at it! So if they were “Lil’ Miss Breakout Star,” buy another bus ticket and go home to put up posters of real superstars, like Toxic Attraction! Because if Roxie sticks around, her dreams will become nightmares, and it’ll get real ugly.

But speaking of, here comes Roxie! And she has Cora with her, too! Mandy wonders, did she hit a nerve? Don’t think that a couple wins makes Roxie a worthy challenger. Fans can shut up, Mandy runs NXT! “Roxanne, don’t be delusional. You don’t wanna cash that contract in, trust me.” Roxie tells Mandy, she’s right! Roxie IS on top of the world! But she also knows she has earned every single bit of living her dream! And the thing about dreams, is that they’re better when you get to share them! Jacy says she wants to barf. But Roxie says after last week, they got to thinking. As much as Roxie wants to be NXT Women’s Champion, which she will one day…

Winning the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships with her best friend, Cora, will be that much sweeter! But wait, here comes KC Squared! Kayden wants Roxie to hold on and wait a minute. She’ stalking about tag titles? Well, the line starts behind them, because they ain’t done yet! Cora says we all saw In Your House. KC Squared looked pretty done. Katana says she gets it, Cora & Roxie are best friends. It’s cute, but KC Squared are also best friends. And you don’t get to cut in line just because you are the new flavors of the month. Oh, wow, really? Cora’s been here a year. And while Roxie just got here, KC Squared is still done.

Well let’s see about that. And the brawl is one! Toxic Attraction is reveling in their rivals going after each other! Refs rush out to stop this, but with Roxie holding onto the Breakout Star contract, will KC Squared be the ones waiting for their turn?

Backstage interview with Carmelo Hayes & Trick Williams.

McKenzie asks Melo about his main event title defense. How does he feel going into the match? Melo asks back, “How do I feel? The question should be, ‘Tony D’Angelo, how do you feel going against The A Champion?'” In fact, Trick checked Wes tonight, how does he feel? He feels like money! Trick took care of business, and now he passes the ball so Melo can take care of business. Melo will take care of business. So whether it’s Two Stacks, Two Dimes, Legado, El Dorado, it doesn’t matter! Business is getting handled, because everyone wants next. But the only thing next someone will be is the one to take an L to the A Champion! That’s all it is, and that’s all it’s gone be!

Backstage interview with Indi Hartwell.

McKenzie notes #IndiWrestling is getting momentum again lately, and Indi points out last week’s win. But then Kiana James walks in and asks McKenzie why we’re wasting valuable television time on someone like Indi. Indi again points out, check her win last week. Kiana saw that, but she doesn’t deal with emotions, she deals with facts and numbers because they don’t lie. The truth hurts, and the truth is, Indi gives the women’s movement a bad name. What?! Kiana says Indi is weak-minded and lacks the mental fortitude to be successful on her own. That is why Indi jumps from friend to friend.

Aww, wait, Kiana is new here right? She’s very opiniated. But the funny thing is, no one cares. Instead of Indi hitting Kiana in the face right now, Kiana can bring those numbers to the ring next week, and Indi will make her regret those words coming out of her mouth. Kiana accepts the challenge! Indi better get ready for another failure. Indi says Kiana sounds smart, but no one likes a bitch. Will Kiana’s calculations not add up compared to reality next week?

Cameron Grimes VS Edris Enofe w/ Malik Blade!

The Carolina Caveman called out the NXT Champion last week, but he also called out the team that once broke the Dusty Cup brackets! Grimes wants Edris to understand what he has going for him, but will he get it through to him with a loss?

NXT returns and Edris makes his entrance. The bell rings, Grimes and Edris circle, and Edris avoids a leg pick. They tie up, Grimes waistlocks and SLAMS Edris, but Edris sits up. Edris fights up, wrenches out to a wristlock, but Grimes spins and slips through to hook and spin Edris for an arm-drag! Grimes has the armlock, fans rally and duel, and Edris fights up. Grimes wrenches again, Edris rolls, rolls and gets free to arm-drag Grimes! Grimes gets up, Edris runs in and rolls off Grimes’ back to then rebound off ropes and arm-drag again! But Grimes handsprings through, only for Edris to avoid the Penalty Kick! Roll up, TWO!

Grimes cradles Edris, TWO! Edris sweeps the legs, covers, ONE! Grimes sweeps, covers, ONE! Fans fire up as the two men stare down! Edris rushes in but Grimes trips him! Edris whips but Grimes holds ropes to block. Edris kicks low, whips Grimes to ropes, but Grimes hurdles and then stops himself. Grimes BOOTS Edris, then RANAS! Edris bails out and Grimes goes to the apron, to PENALTY KICK! Grimes hurries to put Edris back in and climb up top, CROSSBODY! Cover, TWO!

Fans rally as Grimes seethes. Grimes BOOTS Edris, fans duel, and Malik coaches Edris. Edris sits up, into Grimes’ KICK! Edris wobbles but Grimes KICKS him again! Edris eggs Grimes on and fans fire up! Grimes KICKS and KICKS and KICKS but Edris still wants some! Grimes BOOTS him again, but Edris ROCKS Grimes! Grimes ROCKS Edris, Edris ROCKS Grimes, and fans fire up! SUPER FOREARM from Grimes! Edris JUMP KNEES back! Both men are down and fans are fired up for “NXT! NXT!” Malik coaches Edris and he gets to a corner. Grimes runs in but is put on the apron. Edris shoulders into Grimes, then brings him through ropes.

Edris runs side to side to UPPERCUT Grimes! Then he runs to KNEE Grimes to the floor! Edris keeps moving and he FLIES! Direct hit at the ramp! Fans fire up, Edris puts Grimes in and “This is Awesome!” as Edris goes up top. Edris aims at Grimes, 450 but he has to roll through! Grimes comes back, spins and scoops to SWINGING SIDE SLAM! Fans fire up as Grimes aims from a corner. “TO! THE! MOON!” CAVE-IN!! Cover, Grimes wins!

Winner: Cameron Grimes, by pinfall

Grimes did bring that fight out of Edris, but it wasn’t enough compared to the fire inside Grimes! But Grimes shows his respect to the young gun all the same. Will the fire inside Grimes be more than even Bron Breakker can handle?

Thea Hail moves into the Chase U dorms!

She is so excited to be here at the “world famous” Peters Hall! She gets in through the door and meets her roommate… BODHI HAYWARD?! Wait, Thea was given Room 324? Thea is so sorry, she didn’t know Bodhi was here, too. Well, yeah, but this can’t be right! She’s a girl and he’s a guy! No wait, Chase U has CO-ED dorms!! Bodhi keeps hearing that but he never knew it was true. Thea is excited, though! She’s gonna get the rest of her stuff. What?! She throws her stuff all over the place! Bodhi ends up buried in laundry!

After the montage, Bodhi asks Thea, with this co-ed thing, do they share the room on a schedule? Like, he gets it every other day, Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and she- No, dude! They’re roomies! Like, real roommates! Best friends, even! They’ll make every day a win! Isn’t he excited?! She is! And Mr. Chase will be so proud. Wow, yeah, this will be so sick! Classes start next week! Is he hungry? Always! Then let’s get food! Thea bops Bodhi in the stomach a little too hard, and he tells her to just save him a seat. But will this really work out for the best?

Nikkita Lyons is still working hard.

“Patience is not a virtue. Patience sucks. I’m a woman who needs to be constantly moving, always working. When I want something, I go and get it. That’s why I’m busting my ass in the gym. Because once I’m cleared from this leg injury, there’s no warm-up match, there’s no easing my way back into the mix. I’m balls to the wall! NXT Women’s Division, this is your seven day notice. Next week, I’m back.” Lyons is ready to war, who will be the first on the comeback tour?

Brooks Jensen VS Von Wagner!

The lonely country boy looking for love simply looked a little too long at Sophia Cromwell, and that set #ViciousVon off. But now, the hand is healed, and per Sophia’s own orders, no one else is allowed ringside! Will Brooks finally get payback on big, bad Von? Or will Brooks find out this is Wagner’s World, and he’s just living in it?

The bell rings and Brooks rushes in, only for Von to tackle him to a corner! Brooks gets away and fires off hands! Von knees low, bumps Brooks off buckles, then fires off clotheslines! Von got more of a fight out of Brooks than he expected, but he still came out the winner all on his own. Will Wagner’s World soon head for a championship?

Bron Breakker finds Grimes backstage.

Bron says Grimes has a lot of heart, and that is who he is looking forward to facing at The Great American Bash. Grimes says no he isn’t. Because if this Grimes shows up, we’re looking at a new NXT Champion. Grimes heads out, but will his heart lead him headlong into a loss?

Joe Gacy speaks to The Dyad.

“I offered each one of you purpose. And you have surrendered yourselves to me. You left everything you’d once known behind. Your home, your family, all aspects of your life were laid to rest in a realm where everything was measured by fame and championships. When you discovered that it was all just a pipe dream, you found yourselves questioning your own abilities. You were planning on packing up and going home, but I was there for you. I was the one who showed you the light that was inside of you.” They have been reborn, they are ready to take on the world, and no longer see themselves the same.

These two may have tasted gold before, but without intention, gold is flavorless. When they return to that same glory, the fruit of their labor will be delicious! “Because it will be cultivated by an unmatched strength, now that you two have come together under my guidance.” Who are the two under the hoods? We’ll have to wait and see.

Alba Fyre VS Lash Legend!

The former NXT UK Women’s Champion honors her ancestors in both name and actions, but the WNBA standout doesn’t care about the past. Lash just lives for her future. Will Lash prove she’s the only Legend anyone should listen to? Or will she get burned for playing with Fyre?

NXT returns as Lash makes her entrance. The bell rings and Lash talks trash while Fyre stares her down. Lash throws a punch but Fyre dodges to fire off haymaker after haymaker! Lash kicks back but Fyre blocks to shove Lash into the buckle! And then TORANDO- NO, Lash powers out! Lash runs in but into a roll-up that sends her into buckles! Fyre goes up to missile dropkick Lash down! Cover, ONE, but Fyre brings Lash up to CHOP! And CHOP! And CHOP again! Lash blocks the whip, whips Fyre, then HEEL KICKS Fyre down! Lash stomps Fyre, fans taunt her with “Lash Is Trash!” but Lash dribbles Fyre on the ropes!

Fyre throws a body shot but Lash CHOKES Fyre on the ropes! Lash lets off as the ref counts, and fans rally for Fyre. Lash covers, TWO! Lash drags Fyre up but Fyre throws body shots! Fyre then slips around, hooks Lash up, but Lash is too big for the Gory Bomb! Lash gets Fyre up for a BUTTERFLY SUPLEX! Lash kips up, pushes Fyre to a corner and talks more trash. The ref counts, Fyre elbows Lash away! Fyre blocks punches to give punches! Lash knees low, talks more trash, then whips Fyre to ropes. Fyre reverses to SUPERKICK, and then she uses ropes to TORNADO DDT! Cover, ONE!! Fans chant, “She’s on Fyre!” as Fyre KICKS Lash down!

Fyre KICKS Lash again, then runs. Lash scoops Fyre for a SPINNING SIDEWALK SLAM! Cover, TWO! Lash is frustrated and runs in at Fyre in the corner. Fyre SUPERKICKS Lash! Lash shoves Fyre away but Fyre avoids the boot! Lash gets stuck on the ropes, Fyre gets Lash up, GORY BOMB! Fyre hurries up top, SWANTON- NO, Fyre has to bail out as Lash dodges! Lash CLOBBERS Fyre with her own baseball bat!

Winner: Alba Fyre, by disqualification

Lash talks trash and looms over Fyre, but fans chant “You Suck!” Lash lost but she’s the one standing tall, will this only heat things up between her and Fyre?

BREAKING NEWS!

After the confrontation over who gets a shot at Gigi & Jacy, we’re having a match to decide that! Katana & Kayden VS Cora & Jade, the winners move on to The Great American Bash for an NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship match!

NXT North American Championship: Carmelo Hayes w/ Trick Williams VS Tony D’Angelo!

#2XMelo doesn’t care about The Don cosplaying as one of the Sopranos, he doesn’t follow anyone’s orders but his own. But will he have to kiss the ring when Tony takes his title? Or will Tony D lose to the A Champion?

The introductions are made, the belt is raised, and we see who is really a made man in NXT!

Tony and Melo stare down and Tony says this is his ring. Melo says no, it’s Melo’s NXT. They tie up, Tony shoves Melo away, and Melo shrugs and makes fun of the three pointer. Melo and Tony reset, tie up, and fans duel, “Let’s Go, Tony!” “Tony Sucks!” as Tony shoves Melo down. Melo gets up and Tony gloats along with his crew. Melo avoids Tony to headlock, but Tony powers out and runs Melo over. Things speed up, Melo hurdles then hurdles again. Melo runs, flips through the hip toss but Tony dodges! Fans applaud the exchange, and then Melo shoots the three. But then the crew gets on the apron!

Tony says go ahead, Melo, talk to Trick. Trick says sorry, Melo, that’s way too many. But Melo ROCKS Tony with haymaker after haymaker! Tony blocks the next one, then throws a BIG body shot! And another! Tony whips Melo corner to corner but Melo reverses to mule kick! Melo whips Tony, Tony reverses and FLAPJACKS him! Cover, ONE! Tony keeps on Melo, whips him corner to corner, but Melo slides, comes back, rolls off the back and LARIATS! Tony bails out to the apron but Melo rushes over. Tony ducks, anticipating a punch, but Melo slingshots out and trips Tony up! Melo then stares down Escobar before going into the ring.

Trick talks some smack but Stacks talks it back. Melo picks Tony up but is distracted by Trick and Stacks, and Tony RAMS Melo into steel steps! Melo goes down in a heal while NXT goes picture in picture.

Melo shakes out his bad arm and Trick is beside himself. Tony dusts himself off then drags Melo back up. Tony puts Melo in, stomps him around, then brings him up to whip and scoop. BACKBREAKER! Melo withes and Tony gloats again. Tony stomps Melo, Melo kicks from below but Tony flips him over to CHOKE him on the ropes! The ref counts, Tony lets off at 4, but he comes back to stand Melo up in a corner. Tony RAMS into Melo, and RAMS in again. The ref counts, Tony lets off but runs back in, only for Melo to dodge! Tony hits buckles, and then Melo BOOTS Tony! Tony staggers, Melo runs, springboard, into a body shot!

Tony drops an elbow! Cover, TWO! Tony is annoyed but he paces around. Tony pushes Melo over, CLUBS him on the back again and again, then kicks him to ropes. Tony pulls Melo against the ropes! The ref counts, Tony lets off, and then Tony drags Melo back up. Tony clinches for a BIG Belly2Belly! Cover, TWO! Tony is annoyed, and Melo won’t let his arm go. Tony CLUBS Melo and then brings him into a seated cobra twist!

NXT returns to single picture as Melo endures! Fans rally up, Melo fights up, and he pulls Tony’s hair to then smack him off buckles! Tony swings but Melo counter punches! And CHOPS! And ROCKS Tony, and CHOPS him again! Melo CHOPS Tony in the corner, runs corner to corner, avoids Tony to springboard LARIAT! Fans fire up as Melo rains down fists on The Don! Fans count along, Melo gets 10! Melo drags Tony back up, brings him around, but Tony shoves him and scoops him, only for Melo to MYSTICO FACEBUSTER! Cover, TWO! Fans fire up and rally for Melo as Trick coaches him up.

Tony gets to ropes, Melo runs in at the corner, but Tony blocks the boot! Tony spins Melo, scoops him, EXPLODER! Cover, TWO! Trick is relieved and the fans rally up again. Tony drags Melo up, says Melo isn’t the champ, THE DON is the champ! Tony ROCKS Melo, brings him back up, and SLAPS him! Melo flops into the corner, Tony stands him up again, and SLAPS him again! Melo drops to a knee but Trick coaches him up. Tony runs in, but Melo clips the leg! Tony hits buckles, and then Melo brings Tony up! Tony switches, back suplexes, but Melo lands on his feet to CODE BREAKER! Cover, TWO!! Melo is shocked that Tony survives!

Melo goes to a corner and he climbs up the corner. But Tony crawls away, so Melo hops down. Melo storms up to grab Tony’s leg. Tony kicks him away, then tackles Melo and rolls through to a BACK DROP! Fans fire up while both men are down, they give “NXT! NXT!” a standing ovation! Tony crawls to his side, Stacks distracts the ref, and Escobar has the knuckles! Tony wants them, and Escobar slides them, to Melo! Tony is furious, but he turns around into a BRASS KNUCKLE PUNCH!! Cover, Melo wins!!

Winner: Carmelo Hayes, by pinfall (still NXT North American Champion)

Escobar was staring right at Tony when he sent the knuckles the other way! That had to be on purpose! Is Legado rebelling against The Family? How will Tony handle his business? And as for Melo, just who has next for his championship?

My Thoughts:

A great episode of NXT here, with the build towards the Great American Bash getting stronger. For one, I was right to expect Roxanne saying she and Cora want the tag titles first. However, I didn’t expect KC Squared to stand in their way. Katana & Kayden had a very good match with Leon & Feroz, and KC Squared winning made sense. But now it seems we’ll be getting a match between KC Squared and Cora-Roxie, winners take on Gigi & Jacy at the Bash. That probably saves Roxie’s Breakout Star contract, then, since this is being done through management. And maybe then, Roxie can still use the contract to cash-in on Mandy later.

But at the same time, Mandy might need a Great American Bash challenger, and I would love if Indi got another chance. Indi had a good promo segment with Kiana James, and that set up a match that I can guarantee Indi will win. Indi can easily call out Mandy, Mandy will respond, and the match is just made on the spot. Tiffany has a good promo on Wendy, they’ll have a very good match, but I would hope Wendy wins. Unless they’re going to put the top title on a Face like Indi or Roxie, because then it makes sense for Tiffany to win. Tiffany will go after the Face champion, talking crap on them, and then losing to be that Face champion’s first successful defense.

After losing the Loser Leaves NXT UK match to Ilja Dragunov, Jordan Devlin is finally showing up in the States, and of course he’s showing up with a new name. But to me, “JD McDonagh” isn’t quite so bad compared to, oh, I dunno, “Butch” for Pete Dunne on SmackDown. But name aside, Devlin will have a great time here in NXT and eventually  move on to RawDown, hopefully having checked off a title or two. Apollo Crews continues his “WWE’s Equalizer” vignette series and that’s fine, but let’s try and get him in the ring please. Solo VS Waller was a great opener, and Waller gets a dirty win to delay Solo’s rise to a title, which I suppose is fine in the long run.

Giovanni has a decent promo on his own, but it got better when Jiro showed up to upset him. Giovanni VS Jiro should be a really fun match. Wagner gets a win over Brooks and Fyre gets a win over Lash, but these matches just weren’t as compelling as they should’ve been given the builds to them. Especially with Brooks. He was hurt for two months, and while Von is the one being pushed, Brooks needs to give him a hell of a fight or else Von is still just a big, burly brontosaurus like Sam Gradwell called him. In the same way Lashley made Omos look great, there needs to be someone who can make Von look great in a match that actually lasts.

Gacy’s promo with The Dyad was just dripping with allusions to how it’s just the Grizzled Young Veterans under those hoods. They need to have those guys take those hoods off the very next time they’re in the ring or else they’re just dragging this out because they can’t think of what else to do. As soon as those hoods come off, Gibson & Drake need to say why they joined Gacy in their own words, and then I guess this is all leading to “The Dyad” VS The Creeds for the tag titles. And Thea Hail had a hilarious promo vignette with Bodhi about being in the Chase U co-ed dorms. I wonder if we’re going to get some mixed tag matches out of Thea and Bodhi or something like that after seeing her want to take on Pretty Deadly alongside Andre Chase.

Wes Lee had a great promo to work-shoot what happened with MSK, and then Trick interrupting was some strong Heel heat. Wes VS Trick should definitely happen at The Great American Bash or something like that, that’d be a great win for Wes. Great match from Grimes and Edris, and it was kind of the flipside of what we got from Von VS Brooks and Fyre VS Lash. It may not have been that much longer than those matches, but Grimes VS Edris was fast and exciting. Grimes wins to get momentum, but it was a good character touch that he showed respect. Grimes also put Bron on notice in their interaction backstage, Bron VS Grimes is going to be awesome stuff.

And very good story blending with the Diamond Mine, Legado and The D’Angelo Family. Legado faces Kemp & Strong in a great match, and I like that Dimes ends up costing Legado all because he wasn’t paying attention. Everybody has good promos to hype up the main event, and Melo VS Tony was a great match. Escobar giving the brass knuckles to Melo was a great moment, and I figured the partnership of Legado and D’Angelo Family wasn’t going to last long. Now, they won’t be able to have a Six Man Tag rematch at the Great American Bash, as Troy “Two Dimes” Donovan was released, but maybe it will be a 1v1 match of Escobar and Tony, with a ringside ban and maybe some other stipulations to raise the stakes.

My Score: 8.5/10

PLAY BY PLAY

Rey Mysterio is here!

San Diego fires up for the hometown hero as he makes his entrance! The King of Lucha high-fives fans along the ramp, and hugs his wife and daughter, before stepping in the ring. Rey grabs himself a mic, the fans chant “619! 619!” and he smiles. Rey tells San Diego, “Bien venidos, welcome to Friday Night SmackDown! This is the home of the 6! 1! 9!” The fans cheer, and Rey says no cap, it feels great to be back home in front of his people, his Raza, his city, and his familia. Rey requested to be here tonight because he couldn’t think of a better place to reminisce as he gets ready to do the impossible once again.

Rey officially declares for the 2025 Royal Rumble! The arena is shaking hearing that! Rey wants to look back: 2006, he entered the Rumble at #2, outlasted 28 other superstars, and became the Royal Rumble winner! And it didn’t end there. he went on to main event WrestleMania, and he became the WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION! Now, Rey won’t lie, he will be realistic. The competition is heavy this year: Drew McIntyre, who fans boo. CM Punk, who fans cheer; Seth Rollins, who fans are torn on; Roman Reigns, who fans cheer; John Cena, who fans also cheer. It will be tough, but let’s remember back to when he won.

It was 2006, and Rey did it for a friend we all know very well. The fans chant for “EDDIE! EDDIE!” But wait! Kevin Owens makes his way out here! The Prizefighter, still holding onto the winged eagle title belt, showing off his new shirt: The Canadian Dream, Son of a Security System Technician. Kevin has a mic, too, and while fans boo, he tells Rey, “Lemme start off by saying I’m very sorry for coming out here and interrupting you> I mean it, okay? But I had to come out here. Because I heard you just now talking about how you were gonna win the Royal Rumble.

“And Rey, I mean this from the bottom of my heart. It’s never been a secret. There’s a lot of people in this industry that I respect quite a bit, but very few I respect as much as I respect you. In fact, I’ll even go so far as saying there’s nobody in this industry that I respect as much as I respect you.” The fans do cheer that, and Kevin says he has had an incredible career, he’s accomplished things he’s dreamed of since he was a kid. He has main evented WrestleMania with Steve Austin. He won the tag team titles with his then best friend, Sami Zayn. He won countless other tiles, and now he gets to stand here with THIS title!

The fans boo but Kevin says this is the title that as a kid, he saw all his idols win. This is the title he dreamed of winning, and now he stands here as the TRUE, RIGHTFUL WWE Champion! The fans boo again but Kevin says there is one thing left for him to accomplish so that he can truly feel his career is complete. And that is to step into the ring and have a 1v1 match with the legendary Rey Mysterio. The fans like that idea, and Kevin says face to face, man to man, he hopes Rey wins the Rumble! Kevin will root for Rey with everything he has! Rey can and will beat “all those other idiots.”

But just promise Kevin one thing. After Rey wins the Rumble, promise that Kevin is the champion he picks for WrestleMania so that Kevin can have his dream match. Rey takes a moment, and he tells Kevin that we all know Rey loves competition. But… Kevin’s not the champion. The fans cheer that! Rey means that with all due respect, but Cody Rhodes is the champion. But, but, here’s this. If Rey wins the Rumble, and if Kevin wins the title, then yes, Rey will gladly face him for the title. Kevin takes a moment, and repeats, “I’m not the champion? I AM THE CHAMPION! This is my title! I earned it! I deserve it!”

The fans boo but Kevin says Cody has Rey brainwashed, too! Does Rey have bleached blonde hair under that mask? Is it seeping into his brain? Rey wants Kevin to calm down. What’s going on? Drew McIntyre, now Kevin, he’s acting so delusional! It’s reminding him of Dominik. Oh…! Kevin swings on Rey! Rey dodges to fire hands in return! They brawl, Kevin shoves Rey but Rey dropkicks the legs! Kevin is on the ropes, but he bails out before the 619! The fans boo but Kevin is the one offended. Will Kevin be able to let this go so he can focus on Cody?

Bianca Belair meets up with Naomi backstage.

Bianca asks if Naomi finished with Nick Aldis. She did. Any updates? No! No lead on Jade’s attacker. Nothing? Wow. But that’s okay, they’ll keep pushing forward. They will handle Nia & Candice, but Bianca just wants to make sure they’re good after the mishap last week. It wasn’t on Bianca, that was Candice. Naomi knows that. Plus, they have to focus. It may not be Tiffany, but they can at least get some lick back on Candice & Nia. And they still have their gold! Bianca says that’s true. Ready to go? Naomi says maybe Bianca should wrap her up. That way, last week won’t happen again. Bianca agrees, and she hurries to wrap the braid into a bun.

Now they’re good. The StrongEST Glow heads out, will they be able to get past the Irresistible Force & Poison Pixie? Or will they soon be owing some golden tickets to the Queen of the Ring and her new sidekick?

Nick Aldis talks with Rey Mysterio.

After what we saw with Kevin, and since they are in San Diego, we have to have Rey on the card. Rey VS KO happens 1v1! Rey thanks Aldis and promises to handle business. And then Cody Rhodes walks in! The American Nightmare tells Rey he saw what happened while he was going through his physical. Cody says he would’ve been out there to help, but Rey says it’s nota big deal. It is handled, Rey VS Kevin is happening. Cody just needs to heal up. Rey can handle his problems, and will leave something for Cody at the Royal Rumble. Rey fist bumps and heads out. Aldis tells Cody that Rey has a point, Cody needs to be careful.

That said, what’d the doctors have to say? Cody says he has a clean bill of health, fully cleared, and Aldis can read the report himself. Aldis says he trusts Cody, he just doesn’t know if that’s good news. There is a lot of time between now and the Rumble, and even more so to WrestleMania. But with that in mind, Aldis has an addendum to the ladder match. Cody needs to sign it, as does Kevin, because they cannot have what happened at Saturday Night’s Main Event happen ever again. Cody asks if Kevin’s signed it yet. Kevin was Aldis’ next stop. Then Cody will sign it once Kevin has. Cody heads out, will Aldis be able to get what he wants out of this?

Bianca Belair & Naomi VS Nia Jax & Candice LeRae!

SmackDown returns as Bianca & Naomi make their entrances. The teams sort out and Nia steps to Bianca, only to CLOBBER Naomi! Candice joins in to mug Bianca, but the fans boo. The ref reprimands, Candice backs off, and Nia soaks up the heat. Naomi throws Bianca down, talks more trash, then HEADBUTTS Bianca down. Nia drags Bianca up, tags Candice, but Bianca fights back. Pregame interview with Bayley.

Byron Saxton walked through an empty Pechanga Arena with The Role Model before the show, and noted how last week, Bayley won the Fatal 4 Way #1 Contender’s match. Now, we’re in San Diego, with a sold out crowd as Bayley challenges Tiffany Stratton for the title. What does this match mean to her? Well, sold out here in her home state, that is what dreams are made of. We all dream about being in the main event and fighting for a championship. This is a huge night for her. Thinking on her career, this time last year, she won the 2024 Royal Rumble and earned a guaranteed championship opportunity.

Bayley would challenge former friend, Iyo Sky, someone she respects so much in this business. That felt like the peak of Bayley’s career, where she was going to do something different and change the world. To be honest, she isn’t sure she fulfilled her potential during that reign. Yes, she defended the title, took it all over the world, but she always felt she was just winning by the skin of her teeth. She’s a perfectionist, she loves wrestling so much. And so, that reign was certainly cut short when Tiffany helped Nia take that title from Bayley. Tonight is a big night for her.

Then how does tonight feel different from past opportunities in regaining the title? Well, we’ve seen what Tiffany has done this past year, and she just showed she’s willing to turn on her friends to get to the “Tiffy Top,” as she puts it. Part of Bayley respects her, but the other part wants to beat Tiffy that much more. Tonight, it’s personal. Byron wishes Bayley luck and they shake hands. Will this be a big first defense for Tiffy? Or will it be a big comeback for the former Grand Slam Champion?

Mia Yim talks with B-Fab backstage.

Michin just knows she would’ve had Chelsea Green if not for Piper Niven. They always gotta use numbers! B-Fab knows how they do. That US Championship should’ve been Mia’s! B-Fab tells Mia to keep her head up, because she’ll get another shot to take down sleazy- Piper Niven walks in being all Secret Service. Piper says the room is clear, no threats to the champion. Chelsea walks in, thanks “Spicy Service,” and says B-Fab and “Mimi” should stand up and properly congratulate her as the only woman to successfully defend this title. B-Fab says Chelsea please. We all know that if it wasn’t for Piper the Mall Cop, Chelsea would not be champion.

Piper steps up and tells B-Fab that if she takes another step closer, it’ll be her last. If that’s how Piper wants to play it, then how about this? B-Fab will talk with Aldis, then she and Piper can handle their problem tonight. Then after Piper, Chelsea better watch her back. Mia says that is a threat. Mia follows B-Fab, Chelsea tells Piper to neutralize B-Fab. Piper agrees. But just how will this shake out when Piper’s the one in action?

Jimmy Uso heads to gorilla.

“San Diego! The goal tonight is to make sure Carmelo stays missing. Hey, ya boi got something to prove! Hey, I’m proud of The Yeet Man. My brother got his own title match coming up, and it’s time to go get mine. But it starts tonight with Carmelo. Hey yo, Uce, between me and you, Big Jim is Him!” Jimmy heads out to the ring, will he prove he’s just as worthy of golden opportunities?

Jimmy Uso VS Carmelo Hayes!

SmackDown returns as Melo makes his entrance. Melo has a mic to tell Big Jim that he wants to get this straight. Roman’s in the Rumble, Jey’s got a world title match, and what’s Jimmy got? It just seems like Jimmy is living in the shadow of his brother who is living in the shadow of Roman Reigns. But for some reason, Jimmy’s taking shots at H1M? Then here’s a serious question: How can Jimmy take shots when he’s sitting on the bench? Do Melo a favor: Lace up those shoes real tight, Unc, because you’re about to see that Melo Don’t Miss. But then Jimmy TOSSES Melo into the ring! Jimmy borrows those sunglasses, then he fires haymakers!

The fans fire up as Jimmy pops, locks ‘n’ ROCKS Melo! Jimmy whips, but Melo avoids the superkick! Melo bails out, the fans boo, and Jimmy grins. Jimmy hurries after Melo but Melo HOTSHOTS Jimmy down! Melo storms in to CLOBBER Jimmy, and he stomps away at the ropes! The ref counts, teh fans boo, but Melo lets off at 4. Melo soaks up the heat, then he CHOPS Jimmy against ropes. Melo stalks Jimmy, CHOPS Jimmy in a corner, then brings him around for haymakers. Melo whips, Jimmy reverses, QUICK DRAW! Melo is in a corner, and the fans join Jimmy in chanting, “UCE! OH!” Jimmy runs, but Melo dodges the hip attack!

Melo comes back, but Jimmy puts him on the apron. Jimmy UPPERCUTS Melo, Melo sputters, and Jimmy goes out to join him. Jimmy suplexes Melo onto the apron! Melo writhes, Jimmy refreshes the count, and then Jimmy builds speed! Jimmy DIVES, and Melo is sent into the desk! The fans fire up for Jimmy while SmackDown goes to break.

Andrew’s TNA iMPACT! Results & Match Ratings: 1.16.25

The Go Home for Genesis this Sunday! Let’s see what happens!

Published

on

So Genesis is Sunday, followed by next week’s Live Episode of iMPACT! Let’s see exactly how we get to Genesis and not to bury the lead, the fact the WWE/TNA partnership was extended for a few years is very big news for TNA. More visibility for a nostalgic brand and the younger NXT wrestlers get more opportunities with potential sprinkles of a big name here or there (yes I only really mean AJ Styles, but that’s what we all want to see one more time).

Let’s get to the show and see if it’s a Go Home worth anything.

Ratings:

  • Trent Seven vs Leon Slater: Slater wins via Swanton 450 – *
  • Fir$t Cla$$ vs Maniac Marines (Eric Young & Steve Maclin): EY wins via Macho Elbow – ** 3/4
  • Laredo Kid vs Jake Something: Jakes wins via Avalanche Something Bomb – **
  • The Hardys vs Ohio Versus Frankenstein (Sami Callihan & PCO): Hardys win via Crouton Bomb – ***

Trent Seven vs Leon Slater

British on British violence! I just appreciate that Trent’s theme is a down tuned remix of Seven Nation Army.

A little back and forth until Slater hits a Reverse Gamengiri, Trent tries to climb back to the apron after the powder, eats a Shotgun Kick. Trent dodges the dive, and Suplexes Leon down the steps at Center Stage. I feel like Slater over sold the spot, but I suppose using your surroundings is always interesting. Leon slides in at 9.5, Trent gets a little cocky and Leon hits two Flash Cradles for near falls, as Trent is reeling from the quick pinfall attempts he eats another Shotgun Kick for a near fall. Trent sells to the corner, eats a Jumping Bootwash, Leon perches Trent, goes for possibly a Spanish Fly but Trent turns it into an Avalanche Flowsion for two!

Bop and Bang, 7 Star Lariat, Piledriver with flourish and…still a two. Birminghammer attempt but Slater flips out of it, Crucifix pinfall for two, Uppercut by Trent and Birminghammer is hit! But Slater…kicks…out? He sells a Suplex where he slides down steps like death, but eats huge signature and finishing moves and kicks out. The psychology in this match is non-existent. Trent does the Finger Break, Leon sells away, hits another Shotgun Kick and Trent powders. X Plex gets reversed into a DDT from Slater. Trent powders off the Ramp, Leon goes to the entrance way runs and jumps off the ramp, then hits the Swanton 450.

Completely stupid match with spots that make no sense. All sizzle no steak, so dumb my IQ dropped 5 points.

The Elegance Clique have a “Pre-Launch Championship Celebration”. Tom Hannifan hates it, the crowd hates it, and the Personal Concierge uncovers a cardboard cut out with a Knockouts Title around their waists…and they are size accurate. Heather is like a My Size Barbie. Ash gives a very cringey speech where she thanks everyone except Heather, the Concierge passes the mic to Heather, Spitfire interrupts of course, and at least Dani cuts the promo to start so it’s tolerable. Yeah this is painfully bad cringe, as much as I didn’t mind the Ash gimmick to start with, this is lame. The only thing saving the segment is the crowd is hot for the the Elegance Clique getting their stuff ruined. So it was lame, but the crowd was into it and Ash sold the destruction of cardboard cut outs like Spitfire just murdered her puppy.

Well the first 40 minutes of this show are making me wish for a stroke instead of watching this. So hopefully it picks up somewhere.

Fir$t Cla$$ vs Maniac Marines (Eric Young & Steve Maclin)

KC flips out of two of EY’s Back Body Drops and does his “First Class” taunt, so EY just slaps him upside the head and tags in Maclin to start beating on Navarro. I do really like KC’s work. He’s like WWE Lio Rush, but likable and talented. Maclin is beating the hell out of KC though, Lariats him out, goes for the SCUD, but AJ low bridges so Maclin crashes to the outside, KC hits the Tope con Hilo with blind tag so AJ is now legal and they start working over Maclin in the corner. Tennessee Whiskey, and there does seem to be a few First Class fans in the crowd.

Navarro is back in for the 305, quick tags though to keep Maclin eating offense. Splash into Big Boot into Assisted Splash while AJ leans on Maclin literally. KC starts picking on kids in the crowd near Judd Normand, he shoves the actor, the actor shoves him back and AJ comes over to mad dog the actor. Maclin takes advantage of the distraction and drops AJ on the way back in with an Olympic Slam, tags in EY and EY comes out hot. KC tags in, EY levels KC and they start messing around in the corner, AJ tries to break it up but eats a Busaiku Knee from Maclin and then a SCUD. EY manages to throw KC off the turnbuckle and then hit the Macho Elbow for the win.

After the match Eddie, Lish and Brian Myers stand at the entrance way to send a message but not cause any real chaos.

Josh Alexander and his two bitch boys come out to cut a promo on Santana or something. I am about as interested in this as I am in Norwegian Dog Sledding. Josh trying to say Santana is too hurt to go at Genesis when we all know this was filmed the same time like a month ago. You really can’t do doofus attempts a story when you’re promoting the first live episode in nearly a decade or something for next week. At least the match should be good because this build is lame, the jabronis are useless, “Bald Ass Head” is the big insult…sheeeesh.

Laredo Kid vs Jake Something

Well…someone has to win this match, so there’s that.

Nothing special start until Jake comes off the ropes and runs over Laredo sending him flying over the ropes onto the ramp. Jake panders to the crowd, Laredo tries to get something going but Jake steps on his foot to stop any Lucha things, and mollywops him. Jake runs him corner to corner until Laredo moves, strings a few moves together, tries to fly and then gets knocked out of the sky with a Forearm. Only a two count for Jake, but Laredo is definitely doing his best impression of a pinata so far in the match. Laredo gets a desperation Satellite DDT, misses his big attempt, but Jake misses the Spear in the corner, La Magistral gets a 2, a few bad spots from Laredo where it looks like he missed a Satellite Facebuster and sloppy Essex or Canadian Destroyer. Laredo goes to the top, Jake bear paw slap, goes up top and Avalanche Something Bomb for the win.

The Hardys vs Ohio Versus Frankenstein (Sami Callihan & PCO)

Before the Hardys intro, the 23 thing flashes a few times again. So at least they didn’t forget that.

Sami starts with Jeff and gets in a few early shots and goads Jeff with Hardys taunts, then all four get in, throw hands and we go to commercial. We come back from commercial to Matt Delete Turnbuckling Sami, and then Poetry In Motion the classic way! A few quick tags, but Sami eventually knocks down Matt, tags in PCO, Matt’s moves aren’t very effective, Jeff throws himself in too and they get their asses beat by PCO. PCO tags in Sami, Sami slaps around Matt, drags his face across the ropes, tags PCO back in and uses PCO as a battering ram into Matt’s chest. PCO keeps Matt in their corner, tags back in Sami, some simple tandem work and a short 2 count for Sami. Sami calls PCO back in and they’re formulating a tag move, they try the Double Back Drop, but Matt turns it into a Double DDT instead.

Jeff tries to fight them both off, Sami grabs Jeff, PCO goes for the Lariat, malfunction at the junction, Whisper in the Wind mostly hits PCO so Jeff Splashes Sami. Twist of Hate, Twist of Fate, Swanton Bomb from Jeff and the Hardy Boys win!

Before the obligatory contract signing on the Go Home before a PPV, Jordynne walks over to the announce table with the contract for her match with Tessa. Says she’ll leave it with them so she can’t miss it, but hey, “if she doesn’t show up at Genesis it wouldn’t be the first time”. That’s funny.

Joe starts the promo saying he has to win, but its on him to take the title from Nic. There’s an intensity, so it’s not all cornball jokes and shenanigans. That’s kinda nice to start with. Nic takes the babyface angle of “you’re not wrong but I don’t think you’re ready yet kid”. Then he plays the JBL clip from Bound for Glory. Nic tries to use the video to clear his name because Ryan got attacked too. Joe is about to poke a hole in the defense but then Hollywood Abyss Mokuba shows up. “MY BROTHER SETO” Ryan interferes, Nic tries to stop the stupidity but Ryan plows through is about to eat a Standing Ovation but Nic Superkicks Joe to save Mokuba. Nic does stand there as the crowd chants “kick your brother”, but Nic doesn’t pull the trigger but you can tell he’s contemplating.

OH! Sexy Tessy shows up, signs the contract but Jordynne was waiting for her and leaves Tessa laying with a Grace Driver and solid intensity. Okay most of the show was kinda mid but the ending was pretty solid.

Overall Score: 6.25/10

As I said at the very end, most of this show was mid…or mediocre for the older crowd. Indie Spotfest Dumbassery to kick off the show, a few segments that made me question if I was tasting pennies, a decent match with First Class, the stalled push never relevant squad match between Jake and Laredo, and at least the main event match was fun.

The video packages always feel lackluster because the only people really watching TNA currently are hardcore fans. I never really see too many people pull the whole “whoa first TNA episode in 11 years and I decided on the random Go Home instead of the first live episode since 2015”. See, this is why logic matters in booking. WWE gets to have the mentality of “it could be someone’s first time watching it” every week because they the biggest show in town. The name alone will garner random views or transient lapsed fans if they get a whiff of something. However when it comes down to TNA, people are only surprised its still alive.

Even with many questionable hours it wasn’t terrible. It did fine…plus like I just said, there’s opportunity for more random eyes thanks to the WWE merger AND a live episode next week. So the Go Home format won’t change, but hopefully the exposure gives us more congruent storylines.
