9. His Time in ECW

Upon hearing that Steve had been fired Paul Heyman who had at one time been Austin’s manager in WCW gave Steve an opportunity to come to ECW. While he couldn’t wrestle because he was still injured he would cut promos on his former employers. He refereed to WCW as “Where the big boys play with each other”.

It was through these promos that Steve was able to showcase his personality and it was hear that we would see the seeds of the Stone-Cold character.

8. The 3:16 Promo

While it was a big deal for Austin to make to the WWE his first few months with the company weren’t that special. He was made the Ringmaster a role he didn’t suit or want. It wasn’t until fate forced them to change the winner of the King of the Ring that Austin got the opportunity he’d been waiting for.

A classic example of making the most of your minutes made even more impressive when you find out Austin improvised the whole promo Receiving medical attention between his semi final finals match so didn’t have time to come up with something so decided to take shots at opponent Jake Roberts’s turn to religion. And with that promo came the catchphrase that would be on one of the biggest selling T-shirts of all time.
