WWE Week In Review (10/28/18 – 11/4/18)
205 Live
WWE Cruiserweight Championship: Drake Maverick had a meeting with former Champ Cedric Alexander to explain why Alexander hasn’t gotten to invoke his contractual rematch clause. According to Maverick, after Alexander’s 181-day reign, it wouldn’t be fair to the rest of the roster for Alexander to get his rematch just yet. Never mind that Alexander worked with, and put over, just about everyone ON the 205 roster during his reign.
To try and polish up this BS excuse, Maverick claimed that it also wouldn’t be fair to Alexander to get his rematch because in Maverick’s view, three losses overrules being undefeated for 181 days, and says that Alexander won’t get his rematch until he gets back to his winning ways. Alexander isn’t happy about this but agree to get back to his winning ways.
Buddy Murphy had announced that he’d had a meeting with Drake Maverick and a match had been set up for next week: Himself vs NXT UK’s Mark Andrews in a 205 vs NXT UK match. He refused to discuss the Tony Nese/Mustafa Ali match, saying that it was no one’s business.
Mustafa Ali and Tony Nese met on Tuesday to decide who would face Buddy Murphy for the #1 Contender’s spot.
To no one’s surprise, this was an amazing match. Ali really sold the injured ribs from last week’s war with Hideo Itami. Nese threw everything he could think of at Ali, but Ali kept battling back. Finally, Nese’s temper got the better of him, which gave Ali the opening he needed to hit a jackknife and get the pin. Mustafa Ali is the new #1 Contender.
Nese was even more furious and attacked Ali, but Cedric Alexander came running out to help his long-time friend. There was a moment when it looked like Alexander was going to attack Ali, but Alexander chose to congratulate his friend rather than lash out. Time will tell if the Heart and Soul of 205 stay on the same page.
Gran Metalik vs Local Talent: For weeks, the Lucha House Party has been dealing with blatant disrespect for the Luchador tradition by TJP. This week, Gran Metalik took on Job Guy (seriously, they didn’t give us a name) , but before he did that, he did a promo challenging TJP to a match, calling TJP a coward. TJP declined the invitation, so Metalik dealt with Mr. Job Guy instead.
Metalik made quick work of Job Guy and got his mano raised in victory when he was attacked from behind by TJP, who ripped the mask off and ran off with it.
Later on, Mike and Maria Kanellis were giving an interview about their entry to 205. Maria started off by insulting Dasha Fuentes, warning her to be careful how she spun things before taking the mic, saying that she was better at it anyway. She turned to her husband and asked him what it felt like to be the greatest cruiserweight of all time.
Before Kanellis can answer, TJP ran in, apparently trying to elude the Lucha House Party. TJP offers to give them a tour since he’s the first Cruiserweight champion of the new division. Kanellis and Maria are less than impressed, Maria pointing out that TJP’s trying to use Mike for protection since he’s pissed off the Lucha House Party. TJP admits that it’s true, but opportunity is opportunity and the three leave to talk things over.
Brian Kendrick vs Jack Gallagher: The Man with a Plan finally got a chance to get some revenge on his former cohort, Jack Gallager after the Party of Gulak turned on Kendrick a few weeks ago.
As expected for a battle between two former friends, this match was brutal and nasty. Kendrick and Gallagher pulled no punches with each other and the match was nasty. Kendrick would get the win, but only after Akira Tozawa took out Gulak before he could interfere. Time is going to tell where these two groups are going to go.
NXT
NXT Championship: Last week, William Regal had TRIED to make an announcement about the NXT Championship match at War Games, but kept getting interrupted, and then that whole thing with Aleister Black and Johnny Gargano happened, and it was just a mess.
This week, Mr. Regal finally gave us the news that, at War Games, Tommaso Ciampa would defend his NXT Championship against…Velveteen Dream.
Unsurprisingly, Lars Sullivan was NOT happy about this and trashed the backstage area in frustration and vows to get his title shot, even if he has to rip Dream apart to get it.
NXT Women’s Division: For weeks Nikki Cross has been the focus of a lot of attention due to be being the only witness to the attack on Aleister Black. Now that the cat is out of the bag, Nikki is focused on more important things, like bringing her own brand of havoc to the Women’s Division. This week, she took on Mae Young Classic standout, Mercedes Martinez.
The match was great. Martinez was hungry for success after coming up short against Meiko Satomura in the quarterfinals. Martinez dominated much of the match, but the Twisted Sister of NXT refused to go away, even after getting a bloody nose and would put Martinez away with The Purge for the pinfall.
After the match is when things REALLY get interesting. Cross was confronted by Candice LeRae, the wife of Johnny Gargano. Nikki seems to find her presence very funny, which only confuses LeRae further.
Why is she out there? Well, apparently, Candice has an issue with Nikki Cross’s claim that Johnny Gargano was the one who attacked Aleister Black, even though the only person Nikki told was Black and Gargano confessed on NXT and social media.
Before the confrontation gets too far, Aleister Black came out to confront Candice. Nikki found Black’s presence less funny and beat a hasty retreat. Black warned Candice that her husband’s future is over after Candice refused to tell him where Johnny was.
NXT Tag Division: The Street Profits took on the Mighty, who have been mocking the profits and taking their ‘culturally significant’ chains and Solo cups.
The match was really good. The Profits have had an attitude change since the Mighty took off with their stuff, which has given them the room to show off their skills and they definitely did that. The Might put up a heck of a fight, but ultimately, Street Profits would get a pinfall after Ford hit the springboard frog splash. Even more importantly, the Profits took back their stuff.
Burch and Lorcan took on Raul Mendoza and Humberto Carillo, who have been here before and the results were the same. Carillo and Mendoza were able to get in some really good offense, but there was no stopping Burch and Lorcan and the One-Two Combination add another victory to their resume.
Aleister Black Mystery: Last week, Johnny Gargano basically confessed to attacking Aleister Black. This week, over Twitter, Gargano promised an explanation on NXT next week. Hope he talks fast.
As for his victim, Aleister Black was on the hunt for Mr. Wrestling. When he demanded to know where Gargano was from Mr. Regal, Regal told him that he’d told Gargano to stay home. However, Regal did have some good news for Black. He would get the chance to get his hands on Gargano at War Games.
War Games: Undisputed Era have ruled NXT with an iron fist since their debut, and it’s only gotten worse since Adam Cole lost the North American Championship to Ricochet and Bobby Fish returned from injury. In their quest to stay on top, the Undisputed Era have made a lot of enemies, namely, Ricochet, Pete Dunne, and War Raiders.
Undisputed Era addressed these issues, but before they can get too far into their promo, they were attacked by War Raiders.
The fight was crazy! It went all over Full Sail and looked like a throwback to the Hardcore matches of the Attitude Era, including Adam Cole being thrown like a lawn dart, ala Rey Mysterio from 1996. Soon, the fight brought in Ricochet and Pete Dunne and looked like a full blown brawl was about to break out…until William Regal steps in.
Regal demands that the six men knock it off because that’s not how this fight is going to happen. If they want to destroy each other, they’re going to do it on his time and that will happen at War Games…IN War Games!
Matt Riddle vs Luke Menzies: After a lot of hype, Matt Riddle made his NXT debut this week against Luke Menzies.
The match was pretty good. Riddle has an impressive MMA background and put it to good use this week. Riddle came across as a little arrogant and it nearly cost him as Menzies put up quite a fight, but Riddle was able to put Menzies away the Bro-Mission.
In a post-show interview, Riddle and Keith Lee ran into Kassius Ohno, who has been making a point of destroying promising standouts out of anger and spite for not having a better spot on the roster. Time will tell where this will go, but Riddle and Lee would be advised to be careful.

Chris King: The Wyatt Sicks’ Wasted Potential By WWE
Chris King takes a look at the WWE and their wasted potential of Uncle Howdy and the Wyatt Sicks faction.
Chris King takes a look at the WWE and their wasted potential of Uncle Howdy and the Wyatt Sicks faction.
It’s that time of the year again, folks; it’s unfortunate and downright awful that so many WWE superstars got released today. I’m not going to list all of them, but I am going to talk about one of my favorite factions,
The Wyatt Sicks. Nikki Cross, Joe Gacy, Erik Rowan, and Bo Dallas (Uncle Howdy) were something special. After Bo’s brother Bray Wyatt’s tragic passing, WWE felt like there was a hole that needed to be filled. Wyatt was one of the most creative and brilliant characters, and Bo would be taking over his brother’s concept and bringing it to life. In 2024, at the end of an incredible documentary highlighting Wyatt’s career and struggles, Bo appeared on the screen portrayed as Uncle Howdy. The last time Uncle Howdy was seen on-screen was at the 2023 Royal Rumble, where Wyatt defeated LA Knight in a Pitch Black Match. Howdy jumped off a structure onto Knight.
This post-credit scene sparked so much speculation and excitement that Wyatt’s brother would carry on his legacy and possibly debut the faction that was Wyatt’s concept. On the June 17th episode of Monday Night Raw, The Wyatt Sicks made their dramatic debut ,destroying the backstage area as well as “murdering” Chad Gable. It was such an iconic arrival for Howdy as he made his menacing walk from the back into the audience who were chanting “Holy Shit.” The Sicks and American Made (Chad Gable and The Creed Brothers) battled for months, with The Sicks being victorious. On the September 9th episode of Raw, The Sicks defeated them, with Howdy getting the win with Sister Abigail.
The following year, The Sicks would move over to Friday Night SmackDown, and it seemed like WWE had a plan in place. They would win the tag team championships from The Street Profits and start to look dominant. Now, what should have happened next is Howdy should have won the United States title. The Sicks could have held all the gold over on the blue brand, but it never happened. The Sicks entered into a never-ending feud with The MFT’s (Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa, JC Mateo, and Talla Tonga.) It started off exciting, and the WWE Universe was red-hot for their interactions.
After months of repetitive matches and The MFT’s stealing their lantern, the feud grew tiresome and boring. Even Tama asked Solo why they are still holding onto the lantern, as it was destroying them as a whole. Finally on the SmackDown before Mania, Tama
gave the lantern back to Howdy against Solo’s wishes. Please explain to me why both factions fought almost every single week instead of just having one final blowoff match at WrestleMania.
It should have been either a massive street fight or a falls count anywhere match on the grandest stage of them all. Instead, it turned into a meaningless week-after-week extravaganza that benefited no one. The MFTs won the rivalry, and The Sicks don’t even work for WWE anymore. This was the same criminalized creative process that Wyatt dealt with during his first run in the company.
We’ll never know how much of a dangerous force The Wyatt Sicks could have been in the WWE. For all their careers’ sake, I hope they stay far away from the company for as long as possible. Every superstar that was cut deserves better!

Chris King: Bloodline Saga: Is This the Right Call For WWE?
Chris King questions the WWE’s logic in setting up Jacob Fatu as the next challenger for World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns
Chris King questions the WWE’s logic in setting up Jacob Fatu as the next challenger for World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns
Roman Reigns is once again World Heavyweight Champion after his dominant win over CM Punk at WrestleMania 42. On the following night on Monday Night Raw, The OG Bloodline came back together as a well-oiled machine as The Usos stood side by side with Roman. With the WWE Universe asking who would be the first to challenge “The Tribal Chief,” Jacob Fatu shocked the world by answering the call.
Fatu is running hot after his impressive win over Drew McIntyre and feels like he is ready to become the new world champion. This bloodline segment ended Raw, and it picked right back up on SmackDown with even Solo Sikoa and the MFTs involved. This is now two shows that have been centered around The Bloodline saga, and it’s made me question whether or not WWE should be retelling this story.
The Bloodline (Roman Reigns, The Usos, and Solo Sikoa) ran WWE for over four years as Reigns’ henchmen, doing his dirty work to retain his title. Even though Roman has declared he doesn’t want Jey and Jimmy to serve him, it sure seems like WWE are spinning their wheels. Fatu could add a whole new chapter into the story, even if he’s not able to beat Roman at Backlash. “The Samoan Werewolf” could be forced to do the same thing as Jey did all those years ago and fall in line.
In my opinion, I feel like Fatu should be challenging for the Undisputed WWE Championship because that’s a title I feel like he should win. I understand standing up to your blood and trying to prove you’re the best, but I don’t think this is the right move. It feels like 2022 all over again, as The Bloodline is the central focus on both shows. If Fatu doesn’t win, what happens to all his momentum he’s been building over the last two years?
Why did WWE make this the best choice for storyline purposes? Why couldn’t creative have come up with a different challenger for Roman? There are so many other superstars that could challenge The Tribal Chief, such as Rusev, Bron Breakker, Gunther, or even a returning Sheamus.
I just can’t help but question WWE’s logic here, and it kind of reminds me of all the times The Shield reunited. Could WWE be pushing the same storyline too many times here? Could the WWE Universe get tired of this rinse and repeat cycle of The Bloodline Saga?
Are we about to see all the weekly episodes solely focused on The Bloodline again? Will it be cinema… Yes. Is there still money in The Bloodline… Yes. Was it the right call? That’s to be determined!
