AJ’s IMPACT Wrestling Results & Review 5/27/21

AJ seems to be happier with the direction of Impact. So let’s see how this episode catches him and what waves Satoshi Kojima makes!

Published

on

After an interesting twist to the ending of last week’s IMPACT, we have a lot to unfold. Sami Callihan to open the show, a 10 Women Knockout Tag Match, TJP and Bahh vs The Canadian Destroyer and The Walking Weapon and talking about the twist from last week, Violent By Design will address IMPACT about Calling Their Shot and becoming Tag Team Champions against FinJuice.

Also, Kojima is going to get Cozy tonight in the ring!

Results:

  • TJP & Fallah Bahh vs Josh Alexander & Petey Williams- TJP wins via Mamba Splash – *** ¼
  • Tasha Steelz, Kiera Hogan, Deonna Purrazzo, Kimber Lee & Susan vs Rosemary, Tenille Dashwood, Havok, Rachael Ellering & Taylor Wilde – Rosemary wins via Wing Clipper – ** ½
  • Decay vs Swinger and Hernandez (w/ Alisha Edwards) – Crazzy Steve wins via Diving DDT – ** ¼
  • The Good Brothers vs Moose and Sami Callihan – Good Brothers win via Magic Killer – ***

Review:

Sami kicks it off by sitting in the ring and talking about the BS that Kenny Omega is giving, basically saying that they can plan for the others but can’t plan for him and calls Kenny Omega out… until Moose hears enough and comes out. Moose tells Sami all he is doing is complaining and to get out of Moose’s business. Sami says that Moose is amazing but is too out of control so that’s why Sami got attacked at Under Siege. The Good Brothers come out and kind of fluffs Moose the whole time, saying they are for Moose in the whole plan. Moose plays along until he pelts Doc Gallows and Sami captures Karl to attempt a piledriver.

They escape and go to Don asking for a tag match against them.

TJP & Fallah Bahh vs Josh Alexander & Petey Williams-

Bahh uses his size against the X Division Champion at first but uses his speed and technical aspect to cut the big man down, tagging Petey in. Frequent tags from TJP and Bahh but to no avail once Josh Alexander comes in and disrupts everything for the momentum change and beating the big boy down and continue until Fallah gets a head of steam against the Canucks. TJP comes in like a house of fire as Petey and Josh get knocked down momentarily. Josh tags himself in and do small call backs to their matches in the past but, more tags from Josh and Petey but Fallah comes in to spoil the party and stops Petey Williams fails to hit the Canadian Destroyer and while Josh and Petey try to fight Fallah, they fail and TJP hits the Mamba Splash on the X Division Champion.

Morrisey has a sit down and… kind of peels the curtain back on what happened to him in the past with the seizure and says nobody is help and nobody is anyone’s friend in real life.

Ten Knockout Tag Team Match-

They had an interview before and Taylor Wilde was unable to show for some reason so Rachael says that Jordynne can do it so Grace replaces Wilde.

Havok starts off and takes it to Kimber, Susan and Kiera Hogan until the tag is made to Ellering and takes it to both Tasha and Kiera for the time being until Tenille tags in and tags Grace in and now switching to the favor of the other team because the ref though the outside help was getting too much. Kiera and Tasha take it to Grace but after some separation, Rosemary comes in and takes it to Kiera. Susan comes in and now chaos ensues as we get a Tower of Power spot (We Balai HATE THE SPOT with a passion) and now the Virtuosa comes in with Ellering coming in and tags Jordynne with some double offense and more and more come into play.

Rosemary tags herself during the chaos and lands the victory for her team, pinning the Knockout’s Champion.

Eric Young and the rest of VBD are out talking that everything they do is by design including adding Rhino for his Trophy to call his shot and making Rhino the War Machine again. Kojima’s music hits and he goes up to Joe Doering and saying “Against All Odds” for a match.

VBD confirms the match with Kojima and Doering and Crazzy Steve walks in and kind of gets in the head of Deaner.

Decay vs Swinger and Hernandez-

Decay are taking to the Swingman early on, beating him down the whole match until Hernan- daddy (as Swinger says) gets tagged in and they take over on Crazzy Steve. Black Tarous comes in and steamrolls Swinger but Hernandez comes to break it up. Some goofiness in the ring, Swinger goes for… idk what. A Swinger Destroyer maybe? Ah it gets countered and he loses easily as the nutjobs win the match.

The Good Brothers vs Moose and Sami Callihan-

Sami starts the fight off against Karl Anderson and things are going great… until Moose gets tagged in and scoops Karl first then Sami on top of Karl as they get a little argumentative with each other as Karl rolls out to gather himself with the Big LG. Sami tags himself back in to fight Karl even more. When Gallows comes in, he takes it to Sami and gets a massive advantage and beat the former champion down. As Gallows gets predictable and separates himself from Gallows and tags Moose, Moose comes in with fire and intensity but when setting up for the Spear, Callihan tags himself in and gets in Moose’s face. We know that doesn’t fly with either guy and they fight each other to the point that they cost each other the match with the Magic they had before, shot down and killed.

Final Thoughts

It was a good show, nothing super over the top or out of the ordinary. Just a normal show, tying in story, furthering story and maybe giving us some matches down the line, especially with the pinfalls. Kojima makes his presence known and runs back a legendary feud with Joe Doering for Against All Odds, we have some title matches next week with the Knockout’s Tag and X Division Championship on Before the Impact. It’s looking to be actually good next week and who knows much more could come out of it.

…probably because I didn’t have to hear Kenny tonight… that might be why I enjoyed it. Still sad no Steiner Math.

Two title matches tonight! Charlie Dempsey in action!

Published

on

It’s been a little odd leading into their second biggest PLE of Slammiversary. The matches that are set should be fine, but they aren’t building momentum well at all. Most episodes have been plodding or irrelevant and I really have no clue what to expect tonight.

With all of the NXT crossover, with Hendry, Jordynne Grace, Kazarian and The Rascalz on NXT, Charlie Dempsey and Tatum Paxley, I almost feel like TNA is leaning on the crossover to build momentum instead of their own story writing. Which is…stupid. Give us a reason to tune in each week beyond “ZOMG who might show up from other brandz”. Lazy lazy storytelling.

Results:

So they open up with a continuation of the back alley segment when Kaz confronted a “person filming something”. It turned out to be Ryan Nemeth, who said that Nic told him Frankie attack Nic. Kaz thinks Ryan is gonna do something, but Nic shows up and starts beating on Kaz outside of the building. Kaz manages to get away after random security and people break up the scuffle.

Open Challenge TNA Knockouts Championship: Jordynne Grace (c) vs Izzi Dame

The bell rings and the Personal Concierge interrupts before the match starts. He runs down the crowd, says that ASH will watch via satellite to keep up tradition of her sitting in for the Knockouts Title match.

Izzi tries to use her height to her advantage but Jordynne backs her down into a corner, so Izzie puts the arm up for the Test of Strength to mock Jordynne’s height, they lock up, Izzi allows Jordynne to fire off the ropes just to eat a Boot, but Jordynne snaps off a Suplex and turns Izzi inside out with Tilt-a-Whirl Side Slam. Jordynne with a Wrecking Ball Drop Kick feint into a Skin the Cat and then a legit Dive. Izzi is getting rocked, Jordynne goes to attack the Concierge, but Rosemary is in the crowd and grabs him and scares him off. With all the shenanigans, Izzi manages to Stun Gun Jordynne, Inverted Running Powerslam into the corner, Izzi puts Jordynne on the top, rocks her and pulls her down for a stalling Falcon Arrow, and a 2 count. She tries to continue her momentum with a Powerbomb, but Jordynne sandbags and Back Drop counters, Izzi retreats to a corner, eats a Lariat, Jordynne goes for the Hip Attack but misses, they trade shots in the corner and then Jordynne just jumps on her back, rides her down and punches her in the back of the head a few times.

Juggernaut Driver blocked, Waterwheel Kick counter as they both are slow to their feet. Fighting Spirit spot because…of course. Punctuated with a Spinning Backfist from Jordynne, Big Boot from Dame, Izzi goes for a rope run, eats a Pop Up Death Valley Driver and then Juggernaut Driver to retain!

https://x.com/i/status/1811556785200787852

Santino’s genius idea is…Battlebowl Lethal Lottery? Okay at least the teams make sense. Hendry & Alexander vs Maclin & Moose.

Zachary Wentz w/Trey Miguel vs Charlie Dempsey

World of Sport with Japanese Junior style fusion opening. Wentz goes for some quick offense but gets caught on the top rope and dragged down with a Knuckle Lock Arm Drag. Dempsey then connects with two close quarters Uppercuts to the same arm as the Knuckle Drag. Dempsey now throws in a Double Wristlock on that arm, and Wentz is fighting back but struggling and Dempsey keep dissecting the same arm. Stomps, Hammerlocks, Wentz gets some space with a Manhattan Drop into a Sweep, but then Dempsey catches the follow up kick into a variant of a Dragon Screw. STF attempt, into an Arm Bar, then a Knee Bar, but keeps looking for a spot and goes for the German Suplex Hold. Charlie throws Wentz off, Back Handspring Knee Lift finally gives Wentz a shot. Snatch and Grab Flapjack from Wentz, Rising Knee in the corner, PK into Running Shooting Star for 2!

Wentz finally has some life! BUT TREY IS WAYLAID on the outside by Myles Borne and Dempsey pulls out a Dragon Suplex Hold during the chaos to win the match.

https://x.com/i/status/1811560354100707793

Mike Bailey vs Jonathan Gresham vs Kushida

All three start with locomotion Cradle attempts for quick finishes, but to no avail. Bailey rocks Gresham with his Flurry of Kicks, Yakuza kick wipes out Gresham, ole’s Kushida to the outside, Triangle Moonsault from Bailey, but Gresham moves and Kushida is the only one to get hit. Gresham attacks Bailey, throws him back into the ring, but a Missible Dropkick into Standing Shooting Star for 2. Gresham sees Kushida coming after they’re both up, moves and Kushida almost hits Bailey, turns into Kushida trying to kick Gresham, Gresham giving the leg to Bailey and then kicking Kushida into a Dragon Screw as Gresham does the Muta pose. Gresham sinks in the Single Leg Crap on Kushida on the Dragon Screwed leg for about 30 seconds, then Speedball returns and lights up the chest with Round Kicks. Asai Moonsault from Gresham to wipe out Bailey, Dives on Kushida on the outside, and Gresham has the advantage. Back in, Bailey sets the Crane Kick, “Sweep the Leg” chant starts, but Gresham tries a feint instead and eats the Crane Kick. Bailey goes to grab Gresham but Gresham bites the hand, wrestles Speedball down and slaps on the Figure Four.

Stupid cooperative spot of passing legs around which ends with Gresham having alternate legs of Kushi and Bailey so they do Stereo Enzuigiris. Kushi hits his PK, Cartwheel Dropkick spot on Bailey, Tanaka Punch to Gresham, goes for the Hoverboard Lock but Gresham breaks it up. Punches versus Kicks for the two, Kicks win, Kushida retreats to the corner, Tornado Kick attempt, but Kushida blocks, hops up and Dives onto Gresham as Bailey is left without a target for the time being. Bailey and Kushida fight on the apron, Bailey lands the Double Backflip Knees, goes to the top, Gresham breaks up the Bailey attempt, Gresham and Kushida are fighting, Ink attempt is countered by Mist from Kushida, Kushida goes for the Hoverboard Lock, they’re doubled over near the corner, Bailey sees the spot and Ultima Weapon on the two tied up wrestlers. Bailey wins and ears his title shot!

Secret Service and Campaign Singh attack Bailey and Trent afterwards. Ali tries to hit Bailey with a chair but Trent attempts to block it and eats the chair shot instead.

Steph De Lander has some bootleg notebook vignette they is both adorable, cringe, stupid and genius all at the same time. She really loves the nearly 60 Frankenstein. I’m…I…I want to hate it. But much like Xia Brookside lately, I just can’t. Am I broken now that Matt Hardy is partially fixed?

Digital Media Championship: Rhino vs AJ Francis (c) w/ Rich Swann

Ryouji Sai of the rap game, cuts a promo on the way to the ring.

AJ runs down the Phillies and Rhino explodes with Shoulder Tackles, goes for a Gore, but Swann slides into the ring and Trouble in Paradise connects. The referee throws out the match and the crowd hates it.

Santino says its bullshit and restarts the match as a Street Fight.

Philadelphia Street Fight: Rhino vs AJ Francis

Chairs and posts early, chant for tables, Rhino grabs the table, puts it in the corner and AJ hits the Low Blow and Roll-Up for the win!

This was a waste of time twice. PCO appears out of the darkness, Sky High on Rich, goes for a Dive on AJ but AJ moves and PCO crashes to the floor. AJ taunts him with the International Heavyweight Title and Chokeslams him into the ramp.

Tasha Steelz vs Gisele Shaw

Gisele poses on the apron during her entrance and Tasha attacks with a Pump Kick then rams her back into the apron a few times. Gisele of course wants the match to continue, but Tasha attacks immediately on the bell, Shoulder Thrusts, Hip Attack, Gamengiri, Running Knee, into a near fall. Tasha goes for a Sunset Flip, but Gisele counters it with a Front Flip into her own seated Cradle, popping Crucifix Cradle next, just a series of Cradle attempts before Tasha slows things down with a kick and repeated elbows. Forearms into a Spinning Backfist from Gisele, short arm lariats into Shock and Awe for 2! Tasha tries the Mickie inspired Bulldog but Gisele pushes her off, Snap Powerslam for 2. Denouement attempt but no, Okurrr no, short S-Trigger into the Denouement for the win!

Match did what it had to, but it was kinda short and just there.

Xia has a backstage interview with Gia to validate her match with Alisha next week and a little cringey mention of True Love conquers all, with SDL and PCO, but still Xia is…adorable.

JDC vs Chris Bey w/Ace Austin

Bey starts off fast, JDC tries to powder and catch his breath, but a Tope con Hilo kills JDC. Apron rotation 619 to keep on JDC, then back into the ring they go, and Bey is rocking JDC. JDC finally stops the fast pace by just shoving him off the top rope to the floor. Every time JDC tries to slow things down, Bey hits something, from a Jawbreaker, to Flying Uppercut, Outside In Rolling Neckbreaker, but The System come out to the ramp to observe. Myers attacks Ace so Bey attacks Eddie and takes the eye off of JDC. Eddie grabs Bey on the way back in, so JDC hits Down and Dirty for the win!

This is a WCW style overbooked schmoz, but it kinda works.

Joe Hendry & Josh Alexander vs Moose & Steve Maclin

Since Kaz isn’t in the match, he just walks out to watch. Even doing a little bit a Jackie Fargo strut.

Maclin and Alexander start close, counter everything including one anothers attempts at an early finisher. Josh gets fired into the ropes, catches Steve with an Arm Drag, but a kick doubles over Josh and Maclin tags out. Moose slams Josh, throws him to the ropes and Josh holds on. Points at Hendry, and Moose allows the tag to Hendry. How…very unheelish. Hendry and Moose change places in the corner, 10 Count Punches, Moose tries the Manhattan Drop, but Hendry doesn’t bump for it. Gets his last punch in, Josh suplexes Maclin, Hendry is struggling with Moose and the crowd is chanting “We Believe”. So Hendy finally gets Moose up and over but only for 2.

Knee Lift to Josh, Moose tags out and Maclin immediately gets caught by Josh. Josh starts building momentum and Moose Low Bridges Josh during a rope run and Josh is on the receiving end again. Isolating Josh is a good call, he’s got the scariest resume and you want Hendry to look good during the match. Moose leans on Josh’s neck and tags in Steve, they try to double up on Josh, but Josh fights out. Low Bridge sends Moose flying, Suplex for Maclin, Josh crawls for a tag but Moose picks the ankle. Caught in the Crosshairs from Maclin seem to shift the momentum back. Josh tries to fight out of the corner, GO TO HELL from Moose, but Josh turns it into a Frankensteiner and makes the hot tag to Hendry. Hendry catches Maclin, Sack of Shit, Moose misses the Lariat, catch, Sack of Shit for Moose! Rebound Cutter from Hendry on Maclin, Pop-Up Powerbomb onto Moose, Standing Ovation attempt, but countered into the Busaiku Knee from Maclin. Locomotion German Suplexes from Alexander, Forward Roll Senton, King Kong Knee but Moose breaks up the pinfall.

Everyone is brawling, Forearms, Headbutt from Moose, goes for a rope run, Josh turns Moose inside out with a Lariat. Kaz interferes during the finish, Maclin shoves out Hendry, Moose Lights Out Alexander and then KIA to Alexander for the win!

Overall Score: 5.5/10

Well this didn’t really do much. Okay so now we have the looming angle of maybe Nic Nemeth won’t be cleared for Slammiversary, sure…but he’s already lost two title matches, its not like he had a big groundswell of momentum anyway. SDL having to go back to Australia for some time, but proclaiming her love for PCO was…odd…but also makes me wonder where that whole thing is going. Since AJ Francis is defending both titles against PCO, I’d really prefer PCO to lose and maybe need SDL to return to get back in touch with his “humanity”. The Rascalz being involved in NXT feuds with Gallus and now on TNA with No Quarter Catch Crew, is good for them, but not really a storyline.

This is just more of the same, some alright matches, some head scratchers, but nothing that you NEED to watch to have a better concept of what’s happening for Slammiversary. And that, is poor writing.

Andrew’s TNA iMPACT! Results & Match Ratings: 7.4.2024

We find out the last two participants in the Slammiversary 6 way for the Heavyweight Championship tonight!

Published

on

Some of these matches are filling themselves in with the Qualifier matches and that goofy team building thing with Spitfire. Can’t say anything really interesting has kept me invested though. Do I care about Spitfire? Well I enjoy Dani Luna, but the team on a whole, nope. None of the matches look particularly complex or like they have a ton of finish options. So I’m just really curious what this is leading to with only two more shows til Slammiversary.

With the main titles mostly locked in, is there any way to make the remaining card interesting?

Ratings:

  • Trey Miguel w/Zachary Wentz vs Leon Slater: No Contest, Charlie Dempsey interference – ** 1/2
  • 10 Minute Challenge: Dani Luna vs Jody Threat: Draw? No Contest? Who Cares? – * 1/2
  • Slammiversary Qualifier: Frankie Kazarian vs Mike Santana: Kaz wins via Count Out – ** 3/4
  • Eddie & Alisha Edwards w/Brian Myers vs Matt & Reby Hardy: Hardys win via Twists of Fate – ** 1/4
  • Slammiversary Qualifier: Joe Hendry vs Jake Something: Hendry wins via Standing Ovation – *** 1/4

Results:

Trey Miguel w/Zachary Wentz vs Leon Slater

World of Sport-ish open, with chain wrestling and counters but nothing really impressive and frankly kinda boring since every junior heavyweight does the same opening. It’s not until a Back Elbow and then a John Woo Dropkick to eject Trey from his Spiderman Pose in between the ropes. A quick Dive, some early hype has Leon feeling himself, he throws Trey back in and gets caught when he’s trying some offense in the corner. Wentz also gets involved from the outside after the momentum started to turn. Leon tries to fire back, but Trey grabs the locs, stomps the face, goes for a Lionsault but misses. Leon retreats to a corner, Trey chases, Leon Leapfrogs, rope runs and a run through Big Boot keeps things moving for Leon.

Strike exchange spot, of course, a myriad of strikes, they both hit the ropes and Leon catches Trey with a swinging Cutter for a near fall. Trey catches Leon with a flurry of kicks and gets a near fall. Trey went for the Jackie Bryant kick, Leon blocks, goes for a Cradle but Trey kicks out at two, Handspring Pele Kick from Trey, Leon falls back to the corner, Trey goes for a corner attack but gets caught and Blue Thunder Bombed. Leon goes to the top for the Swanton 450, but Charlie Dempsey walks down to the ring and attacks everyone.

https://x.com/i/status/1809019360620482652

10 Minute Challenge: Dani Luna vs Jody Threat

So Stardom Cinderella time limits and we get a knockouts version of what we just saw with the ABC in having a match against each other. Sure the premise is different, but are we out of fresh ideas? Especially since Spitfire is barely established, so a singles match between these two doesn’t carry the same weight as ABC.

A lot of boring feeling out until Dani puts a little more oomph into a Shoulder Tackle, that of course gets returned shortly after from Jody. You can tell TNA doesn’t care a ton about this match because they do a cut to the back since Nic Nemeth got attacked so he’s laid out on the steps for Ryan to find. Jody with clubbing blows in the corner, tries an Exploder Suplex but Jody blocks, switches spots and lands her own clubs into a Suplex. They are really just mirroring each other and this match is doing nothing for me. Jody has a Kneeling Armbar Crossface locked in for a few moments, she kicks Dani into the ropes, looks for her Double Knees into German Suplex spot, but Dani dodges and Jody goes crashing to the outside. Jody gets to the apron before the 10 count, they jockey for position, Jody hangs Dani on the top rope and then kicks her in the head to send her falling to the outside.

They fight a little on the apron, Jody Lariats Dani back into the ring, Jody goes to the top rope, Dani cuts her off, Superplex into Falcon Arrow for only a two count! Time runs out, but its kind of awkward since there’s no visible countdown clock. The girls and crowd call for 5 more minutes, and its apparently enough to restart the match…but Alisha and Masha run down and attack.

Slammiversary Qualifier: Frankie Kazarian vs Mike Santana

Start more classic X Division style, quick charges into Hip Tosses and High Spots that Santana get the best of and Kaz does a Scott Hall esque sell to flop out through the ropes. Santana tries to follow, but Kaz slips back in and lands the Leg Drop and then tosses him off the apron. Now since things are outside of the ring, Kaz is in control, Knife Edge Chops, Scoop Slams, Kaz throws Santana back into the ring and hits the Slingshot Leg Drop for a near fall. Santana tries to slow down Kaz with a Sunset Flip, but Kaz rolls through and then lays out Santana with a Forearm.

Goading slap fight that Kaz mostly gets the better of and turns it into some Double Wristlock Koji Clutch. Santana breaks the hold, they throw strikes a bit, Santana catches Kaz’s foot, hits the Enzuigiri, Kaz responds with a Superkick, Santana rebounds off the ropes, Kaz tries to Leap Frog but Santana catches him and hits a Pop Up Death Valley Driver. Kaz falls back to a corner, Santana with the Senton, but no pinfall. Kaz tries to make space for his Leg Drop, but Santana dodges the first attempt, goes of a Dive, but Kaz intercepts him! Slingshot DDT from Kaz for 2! Kaz tries the Chicken Wing but gets countered, Spin the Block attempt gets countered into a Neckbreaker, follow but a Springboard Leg Drop from Kaz for a near fall. Kaz wants Fade to Black, but Santana slips it, then tries a Cradle, but rolls through, Spin the Block attempt but miss and shove into the ropes. Santana goes for the Rolling Buck Fifty that Kaz counters into a Backstabber then Chicken Wing. Santana manages to turn it into a pinfall to break the submission, finally hits the Rolling Buck Fifty, but Kaz kicks out at 2!

Spin the Block attempt one more time, but JDC comes out to interfere and post Santana. Kaz wins via Count Out and Santana is busted open.

Did PCO just heal SDL by turning her into the Bride of Frankenstein? I’m not sure what I just watched.

Eddie & Alisha Edwards w/Brian Myers vs Matt & Reby Hardy

Reby wants to start against Alisha, and it seems like they’re willing to oblige. Lish powders immediately, hides behind Myers and then slides in to tag in Eddie, and Eddie allows Reby to tag in Matt. Matt pins Eddie in the Hardy corner, Reby grabs Eddie’s hair while Matt clobbers him and then chokes him over the middle rope. Matt holds Eddie so Reby can slap him and then tags in Reby to Dual Stomp Eddie in the corner. Reby tags out back to Matt and Eddie eats an uppercut before starting to fire back with Kobashi style Chops. Matt lines up Eddie in the corner for a Spear, but Eddie bails and Matt posts himself.

After the commercial Eddie is in control, they try to turn the tables on Matt with the wife Slapping from the corner. Eddie tags in Alisha, but Matt throws Eddie out, tags in Reby and Reby finally gets her hands on Lish. It’s a sloppy mess but it also kinda tracks with her personality. Dual Delete Turnbuckles, a sloppy looking Hart Attack for  two on Lish. Eddie manages to get the best of Matt on the outside, Reby tries to go for a rope run, but Eddie picks her ankle and gives Lish an opening. Lish tags in Eddie, Eddie talks shit, Matt tries to protect his wife but Eddie dispatches him, Eddie tags Lish back in and a PK from Lish sends Reby reeling. Reby fights off Lish, but before she can reach Matt, Eddie cuts off the tag to allow for Lish to just smother Reby.

Lish tags Eddie back in, but he doesn’t hit Reby, he just talks smack, tries to cheap shot Matt, but Matt finally counters. A few quick strikes, Vertical Suplex, middle rope Elbow Drop for 2! Matt looks for the Side Effect, Eddie counters, tries the Tiger Driver, but Matt counters with Side Effect! Twist of Fate call from Matt, Myers gets involved and the referee sees it, and kicks him out. Twist of Fate countered into Blue Thunder Bomb for 2. Eddie argues with the referee, exposes the knee for Boston Knee Party but Reby gets in the way, Lish tries to distract the ref, but it backfires, Reby kicks Eddie in the balls, Twist of Fate on Lish and then Matt Twist of Fate on Eddie for the win!

Slammiversary Qualifier: Joe Hendry vs Jake Something

Slow power start until Hendry gets an early pop spot with the Stalling Suplex on Jake. But Jake eats the move and rope runs and runs through Hendry, literally. Two Shoulder Tackles and then just runs into Hendry head first, and our favorite wrestler Joe Hendry, is reeling. Hendry powders, tries to mount some offense but Jake connects with a straight right, slams Jake onto the apron and then a Flying Crossbody into the seated on the apron Hendry. Back in the ring, Lariat into a Power Slam for 2. Hendry tries to find some momentum with a few Uppercuts, but Jake turns it around, okidoke in the corner, he flips Hendry to the apron, Jake hits the ropes to try and Spear Hendry, but Hendry jumps in and a Back Elbow levels Jake. Jake starts getting control back, so Hendry tries locomotion Cradle attempts until Jake’s Forearm cuts that attempt off.

“Something sucks” is a funny crowd chant. It’s so…Philadelphia for many reasons. Back and forth power attempts but Jake gets the best of things with a Michinoku Driver. Hendry kicks out, Jake keeps more clubbing blows across Hendry’s chest, goes for a Rear Naked Choke, but Hendry stands up with Jake on his back and  drops backwards to break it. They head to the outside, Headbutt from Jake, redo the seated apron spot, Jake tries to Crossbody again, but misses and throats himself on the bottom rope! Hendry mows down Jake a few times, Sack of Shit into a Kip Up! Standing Ovation blocked, Axe Handle across the back into a Sitout Powerbomb for 2! Into the Void countered, Back Body Drop countered by Jake, Thesz Press drops Joe, but another Kip Up and they level each other! Jake misses the Splash in the corner, Cutter from Hendry! Standing Ovation! Hendry holds it with one arm for effect, and then wins the match!

Overall Score: 4/10

It took 90 minutes to get a real finish tonight. This was just a nothing burger of a show, 3 non-finishes, Bleach levels of filler crap, an intergender match that no one wanted and the finish was obvious…but at least the main event was solid. It does continue to show the lack of direction TNA always has for Jake Something though…which is frustrating. But the match did make me think, between his arrogant NXT promo, implying Jake was a virgin in the pre-match promo and then posing a little cocky before hitting the Standing Ovation; are we seeing a slow heel turn for Joe Hendry? I mean I get that he’s supposed to be the funny tweener who makes songs that are insulting, like a more comedy oriented Doctor of Thuganomics. But the mannerisms felt much more heelish tonight.

Maybe I’m over analyzing since the episode was useless. But it’s at least something to ponder going into next week.
