Tom Phillips welcomes us to the show.

There is a lot going on in the Cruiserweight Division to be sure, such as the Interim NXT Cruiserweight Championship Tournament. While we’re in the midst of finding out who is the next person to ascend to the throne,” the WWE looks back on some of the pioneers of this division. And you can’t talk about this division without bringing up THE Brian Kendrick. Tonight, Kendrick will share the great wrestling matches that influenced his career, as well as his favorite matches he’s had in his career. And with that, Phillips throws it over to The Man with a Plan himself.

“Hello, this is THE Brian Kendrick, pioneer of 205 Live.” He was asked what match made him fall in love with professional wrestling, and that would be the main event of WrestleMania 6. He went over to a friend’s house, wanted to play some board games, but his friends were watching Mania on VHS. Ultimate Warrior VS Hulk Hogan for the World Heavyweight Championship. That was the moment that made Kendrick go, “Gee wiz, that’s what I want to do with my life.” Enjoy and “Bon Appétit, bozos.”

4/1/1990 – WrestleMania VI, The Ultimate Challenge: Hulk Hogan VS Ultimate Warrior!

Champion versus champion! Legend versus icon! Winner takes all! Witness this iconic moment in wrestling history!

The now late, great Howard Finkel gives the introductions as the fans go wild for both fan favorites. Warrior does not take his eyes off Hogan, and Hogan returns that glare. Both belts are raised by referee Earl Hebner, and the bell rings on this historic moment!

Hogan and Warrior still stare down, and the fans are still going wild. Warrior shoves Hogan first! Hogan shoves Warrior back! The Skydome just gets rowdier as both men tie up, and then Warrior pushes Hogan away! They tie up again, and fans duel as they’re in a deadlock. But then Hogan pushes Warriors back! Warrior does not back down, he calls for a test of strength! Hogan asks the fans what they think, and they want to see it! Hogan steps up to the challenge, and we have a knuckle lock. Then we have the second, and both men go shoulder to shoulder! Hogan rams into Warrior but Warrior doesn’t back down. It’s another deadlock even as Hogan rams Warrior again. Warrior starts powering Hogan back and fans are thunderous!

Hogan drops to his knees and fans can’t believe it! Warrior powers up more and more, but Hogan fights his way up. Hogan rises to his feet and now he’s powering Warrior back! Warrior falls to his knees and the Skydome is just losing their minds! Hogan keeps on Warrior but Warrior is starting to fight his way back up! Warrior gets up but Hogan powers him down and drops an elbow! Cover, TWO! Warrior is right up, runs and rams Hogan! Hogan doesn’t budge, so now they start running the ropes. Hogan drops, Warrior goes up and over, but runs into a scoop slam! But Warrior is right back up! They run the ropes again, and then Warrior drops down. Hogan hops, and runs into a scoop slam from Warrior! Hogan is slower to getting up, and Warrior clotheslines Hogan out!

Fans erupt again as Warrior paces. Hogan hobbles up with a bad leg and the ref keeps Warrior back. The ring count starts but Hogan falls! So Warrior goes out to stomp away! Warrior returns to the ring while the ref checks on Hogan. Hogan says his knee’s done, but he refuses to let this end here. Warrior goes out and pushes the ref aside to put Hogan back in. Warrior wants this to end in the ring one way or another. He goes after Hogan’s bad leg with kicks but Hogan rakes eyes! So Warrior rakes eyes! Hogan rakes eyes, Warrior rakes eyes, and then both men start to choke each other! The ref backs them off but Warrior throws a sucker punch! Warrior argues with the ref but Hogan comes back with haymakers! Hogan punches and punches and whips Warrior corner to corner for a big corner clothesline!

Hogan manages to climb up and rains down punches in the corner. The fans count along, all the way to 8 before the ref brings Hogan away. Hogan brings Warrior up for a scoop slam and elbow drop! And another, then the cover, TWO! Warrior lives but Hogan won’t let up. Hogan facelocks and grinds Warrior down. Hogan then shifts to a cradle, TWO! Warrior can’t get away before Hogan gets a chinlock. Hogan punches Warrior in the head but the ref reprimands him for closed fists. Warrior stands and Hogan knees him into a corner. Warrior fights back but Hogan chops and punches away! Hogan brings Warrior around to whip and clothesline! Cover, TWO! Hogan argues the count, but he drags Warrior up for another scoop. Hogan hits a backbreaker then covers, TWO! Again Hogan argues but Hebner defends his count.

Hogan wraps Warrior up in a chinlock again and leans on him. Warrior is fading but the fans keep rallying. Warrior starts to fight back and reaches back for Hogan’s head. Hogan rams his knees into Warrior’s back over and over then brings him up. Hogan back suplexes high and hard! Cover, TWO! Warrior still lives, but Hogan has the chinlock again. Hogan grinds Warrior down but fans rally even harder. Warrior gets his second wind and starts to rise! Warrior stands and throws big elbows to Hogan’s stomach! Hogan lets go, Warrior runs, but double clotheslines take both men out! A standing count begins and fans give it their all to will their favorite to their feet. The count passes 5 but both men barely stir. Warrior sits up at 8! Warrior feeds off the energy, and then Hogan revives!

Both men are up, and Warrior uses the ropes to build that power! Hogan clubs Warrior but Warrior only gets stronger! Warrior is immune to the clubbing forearms! Warrior counter punches and headbutts and haymakers! BIG LARIAT! Hogan gets up, another lariat! Warrior is feeling it now, and he just keeps going! Warrior drags Hogan around for a CHOP! He whips Hogan corner to corner, then back the other way! Hogan flops to the mat, and he holds onto Warrior’s leg to stand up. Warrior snap suplexes Hogan down and covers, TWO! Hogan still lives but Warrior isn’t done with him. Warrior brings Hogan up into a bearhug! Warrior squeezes tight but Hogan grabs at the ref. The ref gets Hogan to let go of him but off comes the shirt pocket.

Hogan starts to fade as Warrior continues to squeeze. Hogan pulls hair but the ref makes him stop. Warrior keeps squeezing but Hogan tries to get his arms in the gaps. Hogan pushes a forearm against Warrior’s face but Warrior won’t let go. Fans keep cheering and dueling, Warrior keeps squeezing tighter, and Hogan starts fading! Hogan reaches weakly, Warrior thrashes him about, and Hogan is going limp! The ref checks on Hogan, the arm drops once. The arm drops twice! But Hogan revives with the third check! Hogan has his second wind now as he punches Warrior over and over, and over and over and over! Warrior lets go but he runs, only for Hogan to drop! Warrior runs into the referee! Hogan sees what happened but Warrior climbs up top! Warrior leaps to hit ax handles!

Hogan wobbles but Warrior goes up top again. Warrior leaps for more ax handles! Hogan drops to a knee but Warrior keeps going! Warrior runs and runs and runs, but Hogan dodges and slams Warrior down at the same time! Hogan covers, but there’s no one to count! Hogan is disappointed, but he gets caught with a back suplex! Warrior covers but again there’s no one to count! Both men would’ve won by now if the ref was there. The ref revives now and counts this cover, but very slowly! Hogan’s out at TWO! And then Hogan throat chops and rolls Warrior! The ref is slow to the count, Warrior’s out at TWO! Hogan is furious but he takes it out on Warrior with haymakers. He whips Warrior and elbows him out of the ring! Hogan goes out, the two men brawl, but Hogan brings Warrior to the post.

Warrior blocks the post bump but so does Hogan. They headbutt, and then Warrior throws Hogan into the post! Hogan gets in the ring but Warrior follows. Warrior pumps up and runs, to LARIAT! Warrior pumps up again as Hogan stands. He gets Hogan up in the military press! And the DROP! ULTIMATE SPLASH! Cover, TWO!! Hogan survives, and even has a third wind! Warrior clubs Hogan but now Hogan is hulking up! The Skydome is electric as Hogan goes around the ring! “YOU!” The finger point, and the counter punches! Hogan whips and BOOTS Warrior down, then drops the leg! But Warrior evades! AND SPLASHES DOWN! Cover, WARRIOR WINS!

Winner: The Ultimate Warrior, by pinfall (DUAL WWF World and Intercontinental Champion)

Warrior retains his Intercontinental Championship, and is the NEW World Heavyweight Champion! Hogan can’t believe it, because he was just a split second too late in his kick-out! But the Hulkster, emotional as he is, takes his WWF World Championship and brings it to the ring. He personally hands it to Warrior, and raises his hand in victory! The two icons hug it out! Then Hogan takes his leave so that Warrior can have his celebration with fans cheering and fireworks exploding.

A truly historic moment between two WWE legends. But that’s just one moment that influenced THE Brian Kendrick. What other moments will Kendrick reveal to be influential?

205 Live returns to THE Brian Kendrick.

Kendrick was also asked what match of his own is he the proudest of. A tricky question because Kendrick has been in the ring with a lot of WWE legends, has had a lot of success, and has had a lot of moments he’s enjoyed. Kendrick’s rather proud of his WWE Tag Team Championship run he had alongside Paul London. He’s also proud of his WWE Cruiserweight Championship reign to start 205 Live. But one match that is really special, because it put things in perspective for his career, was back in the WWE Cruiserweight Classic, when he faced THE Kota Ibushi.

Before that match, Kendrick succeeded against Raul Mendoza and Tony Nese in the tournament. One loss would’ve meant he was done in his fourth time around in the WWE, and that’s what happened. Kendrick looked himself in the mirror and said, “This might be it for me.” But obviously, he fought his way back and here he is. But Ibushi gave him the perspective he needed. Enjoy.

8/31/2016 – WWE Cruiserweight Classic Quarterfinals: THE Brian Kendrick VS Kota Ibushi!

Kendrick already gave away the ending, but relive this great match on the road to the newly revived Cruiserweight Championship!

The referee makes sure both men understand the rules and they shake hands. The bell rings and fans are dueling already. Kendrick and Ibushi circle, Kendrick dodges the tie up and shoves Ibushi. Then Kendrick bails out and dares Ibushi to follow. Ibushi dares Kendrick to get back in but this cases a stalemate. The ref counts and Kendrick concedes to returning. Kendrick blows a kiss then runs away, but Ibushi catches him! Ibushi fires off on Kendrick then clubs him down. Fans cheer as Ibushi brings Kendrick up. Kendrick waistlocks, Ibushi standing switches but Kendrick elbows out hard. Kendrick runs but into a ROUNDHOUSE! Down goes Kendrick and he bails back out. Fans fire up with Ibushi and he builds speed to the corner. Ibushi jumps for the GOLDEN TRIANGLE! Direct hit at the ramp!

Full Sail is loving Ibushi as he gets back up. Ibushi drags Kendrick up and in but Kendrick gets out the far side. Fans cheer the savvy but Ibushi heads over. Ibushi brings Kendrick up but Kendrick rams him into railing! Kendrick laces Ibushi’s foot in the gap! The count climbs but Ibushi gets free. Ibushi returns with plenty of time, and springboard missile dropkicks Kendrick down! Cover, TWO! Kendrick survives but Ibushi keeps his cool. Fans rally up as Ibushi brings Kendrick up for big haymakers and kicks. Ibushi kicks Kendrick right in the chest! And then again! And again! Kendrick falls and grimaces as he goes to the corner. Ibushi runs in but Kendrick puts him on the apron. Ibushi rocks Kendrick and Kendrick ends up on the apron.

Both men climb from opposite ends of the corner, and Kendrick strips the crossbar! Kendrick gives Ibushi a neckbreaker TO THE CROSSBAR!  Ibushi falls and Kendrick wants the ring out count. Ibushi is up and shoulders back into Kendrick. But Kendrick kicks the rope to jam Ibushi! Cover, TWO! Kendrick cravats Ibushi to go after the repaired neck. Fans rally as Ibushi endures, and Ibushi fights his way up. Ibushi scoops but Kendrick snapmares through! Kendrick uses the cravat to crank Ibushi. Ibushi flails and kicks as he endures. Ibushi knees Kendrick in the back as fans rally again. Kendrick lets go and Ibushi grits his teeth. Ibushi runs into a takedown but handsprings out! Kendrick elbows and runs, but into a BIG dropkick!

Fans rally and duel as Kendrick gets to a corner. Ibushi is in the opposite end, and then he runs corner to corner. Kendrick boots back, but runs into a spinning powerslam! Ibushi is right to the corner for a MOONSAULT! Cover, TWO! Kendrick survives but both he and Ibushi are slow to stand. Ibushi fires off a strike fest on Kendrick! Kendrick avoids the Penalty Kick, and gets knees up against Ibushi’s standing moonsault! Inside cradle, TWO! Kendrick SUPERKICKS! Both men are down again and Full Sail rallies up! Ibushi stirs while Kendrick rolls to ropes. Kendrick grimaces as he gets to his feet. He drags Ibushi up but Ibushi throws a forearm. Kendrick gives it back, but Ibushi gives another. Kendrick forearms and wobbles Ibushi, but Ibushi still hits back.

Ibushi gets the edge, but Kendrick gives the shots back. Kendrick ducks a kick to BOOT, then cravat, to SLICED BREAD! Cover, TWO!! Ibushi survives and Kendrick can’t believe it! Kendrick drags Ibushi back up and to a corner, for a hanging sleeper hold! The ref counts but Ibushi elbows Kendrick off the hold. And then PELES! Kendrick flops down but keeps himself on the apron! Ibushi climbs the corner as fans rally and duel again. Ibushi drags Kendrick up, waistlocks, and dead lifts! SUPER GERMAN SUPLEX!! Full Sail is losing their minds over that one! Ibushi flounders to the cover, TWO!! Kendrick survives because this means everything to him! Fans still duel and rally for both men as Ibushi rises again.

Ibushi drags Kendrick up, reels him in, but Kendrick clamps onto a leg. Kendrick denies the powerbomb lift but Kendrick gives a KICK! Ibushi drags Kendrick back up and back in, to powerbomb lift. Kendrick slips out to get the chinlock. Ibushi resists but Kendrick still throws him over. Ibushi again lands on his feet, but Kendrick quickly catches him and throws him again, to the CAPTAIN’S HOOK! Ibushi’s neck endures the Bully Choke as Kendrick cranks harder! Fans rally and duel as Ibushi fights up to his feet. Ibushi elbows and clubs free, but Kendrick runs in. Ibushi dodges him, but then Kendrick yanks him into ropes! Kendrick torture racks Ibushi, for BURNING HAMMER!! Cover, TWO!?! Ibushi survives a move that went right after his neck!

Kendrick has a wild look in his eyes as he looms over Ibushi. Kendrick knees and clubs away on the neck, but Ibushi fires up. Ibushi ROUNDHOUSES Kendrick, then runs, but into a wheelbarrow! Ibushi blocks it, for a BASTARD DRIVER! Cover, TWO!?! Kendrick survives being folded up and Full Sail is just loving it all! “This is Awesome!” but far from over! Ibushi drags Kendrick to a drop zone and heads to the corner. Ibushi climbs up, for the PHOENIX SPLASH, but it FLOPS! CAPTAIN’S HOOK!! Kendrick cranks as hard as he can, but Ibushi rolls it to a cover! TWO!! ROUNDHOUSE!! Ibushi drags Kendrick in, for the GOLDEN STAR BOMB!! Cover, Ibushi wins!!

Winner: Kota Ibushi, by pinfall (advances to the semifinals)

That Last Ride was definitely the last piece Ibushi needed to win against such a savvy and vicious veteran!

As Kendrick said, this match would put everything in perspective for him. He stuck it out and eventually became WWE Cruiserweight Champion in his own time. As for Kota Ibushi, he would have another incredible match against Gran Metalik, but the King of the Ropes would win and move on to the championship finals. Will Kendrick be able to get back to the WWE/NXT Cruiserweight Championship down the line?

WWE 205 Live returns to Tom Phillips.

“There is a reason why Brian Kendrick is one of the most respected veterans in all of sports entertainment.” And there was a reason why Kendrick was champion for 205 Live’s debut. On behalf of the WWE Universe, Phillips thanks Kendrick for sharing just a couple of his favorite moments in wrestling. And on behalf of the WWE, Phillips thanks us for joining in on reliving those moments, and hopes we’ll be back again next week for more.

My Thoughts:

A pretty good 205 Live that parallels Thursday’s NXT UK episode. Kendrick was a great choice to start 205 Live on a set of “Matches That Made Me Me” episodes, because of a wealth of matches just in his career. I remember watching those days when a young Kendrick and Paul London were the unnamed yet very exciting tag team on SmackDown with the WWE Tag Team Championships. A shame they couldn’t put a highlight reel together to sprinkle into Kendrick’s video introducing his match with Kota Ibushi. That was a great match, but so were all the matches in the Cruiserweight Classic that led us back to a WWE Cruiserweight Division and title. A shame WWE let Ibushi slip through their fingers, but perhaps best in the long run for Ibushi himself, and NJPW for having him.

The retro pick from Kendrick was a good one. Ultimate Warrior, Hulk Hogan, and even Howard Finkel, all in one moment. Crazy how 30 years ago, Warrior and Hogan were so incredibly over, like few wrestlers ever are anymore. And now, in 2020, there are reasons for fans to actively avoid talking about Warrior and Hogan. But I won’t talk about that, I’ll focus on the match. This was actually another match I’d never seen before. For one, I was only a baby in 1990. By today’s standards, it was nothing special, but it was definitely a shining example of the 80’s era and even early 90’s, just before the Attitude Era started. The fans were definitely eating it up, and it meant a lot in the moment for Warrior to go over Hogan. And surely, Kendrick wasn’t the only kid watching inspired to pursue a life in pro-wrestling.

My Score: 8.2/10

A car crash just happened!

Authorities and EMTs are here as Solo Sikoa & MFT explain what just happened here in the parking lot. The Profits are also in view, and Cathy Kelley finds Adam Pearce to ask for an update. Pearce says they all came upon this at the same time, and this is a huge night, but Nick Aldis took the week off. Cody Rhodes walks over, he says Pearce has his hands clear, but he asks if Pearce has the contract for the title match. Yes, it has everything they talked about. Pearce lets Cody have it so he can look it over, but what can Pearce do for this wild and suspicious start to the show?

Alexa Bliss talks with Lily.

And that’s when Charlotte Flair walks in. Alexa says yes, she knows, teaming together was a huge bust, but Alexa was trying to do Charlotte a favor. They can just part ways. Charlotte says, “Blisster, you didn’t even hear what I had to say. Whenever have I done anything half way? We might’ve not won, but we didn’t lose, either. So that’s why I went to Adam Pearce and I got us a tag team title match at SummerSlam.” Wait. She went to Pearce, had a conversation, and walked out with a title match? Well, just because she’s in a team doesn’t mean Charlotte isn’t Charlotte. Alexa says in that case, she has some ideas.

No, no, focus. Charlotte is facing Raquel so she needs Alexa out there. Well, to quote Charlotte to herself, “Do I look like a cheerleader?” Uh, kinda. Darn right she does! In that case, yes, Alexa can be the cheerleader, but they’re still not friends. Will these totally-not-friends be on a roll towards their tag title second chance? Also, is that Giulia and… Kiana James talking in the background? Is The Calculator trying to cut a deal with The Beautiful Madness?

Charlotte Flair w/ Alexa Bliss VS Raquel Rodriguez w/ Roxanne Perez!

The bell rings, the fans rally, and the two circle. San Antonio lets out the “WOO~” as the two tie up. Raquel shoves Charlotte away, brushes herself off, but the fans rally behind Charlotte. Raquel runs up, Charlotte dodges to waistlock, but Raquel elbows free! Charlotte wobbles, Raquel runs up but Charlotte gets around again. Charlotte ducks the elbow to wrench and wristlock. Raquel wrenches through but Charlotte cartwheels! Raquel throws Charlotte down by her hair! Then she RUNS Charlotte over! Raquel puts Charlotte in the corner, runs up, but Charlotte BOOTS her! Charlotte goes up, leaps, and manages a RANA!

Raquel staggers up, Charlotte LARIATS her up and out! Then Charlotte PLANCHAS! Down goes Raquel and the fans fire up! Roxie storms over to Charlotte, but Alexa backs her off! The fans cheer the twisted cheerleader, but then Raquel runs up! Charlotte ducks once but the SOUTHPAW LARIAT finds her! Raquel scoops Charlotte to LAWN DART her into the POST! The fans boo while Charlotte flops down, and SmackDown goes to picture in picture.

Raquel puts Charlotte in the ring, covers, TWO! Charlotte is tougher than that but Raquel clamps onto her. Raquel SMACKS Charlotte off the mat, SMACKS her off the mat again, then drags her up. Raquel whips Charlotte to the corner, runs in, and SPLASHES! Charlotte staggers, Raquel corners her, and Raquel fires elbows into her! The ref counts, Raquel stops at 4, and she lets Charlotte stagger and fall. Raquel drags Charlotte up into a COBRA TWIST! Charlotte resists, Raquel CLUBS her, and the twist is on! Raquel THARSHES Charlotte, but Charlotte switches to have the twist on Raquel! Now Charlotte THRASHES Raquel!

Raquel powers up and THROWS Charlotte away! Charlotte flounders to a corner, Raquel runs up and stomps a mudhole in! The ref counts, Raquel stops to argue with him, and she goes back to sit Charlotte up. Raquel ELBOWS Charlotte, ELBOWS her again, then ELBOWS her again! Raquel clamps on with a chinlock and she THRASHES Charlotte around again! Charlotte endures, reaches out, and she powers up! Charlotte stands, but Raquel THRWOS her down by her hair! The ref reprimands, Raquel picks Charlotte’s hair off her fingers, then covers, TWO! Raquel drags Charlotte up, but Charlotte hits a JAWBREAKER!

Charlotte whips, Raquel reverses, but Charlotte goes up and over. Charlotte runs but into a BOOT! Cover, TWO! Charlotte is tougher than that and Raquel grows frustrated. Raquel drags Charlotte up again, brings her around, and bumps her off buckles. Raquel brings Charlotte to another corner, bumps her off more buckles, then goes for the third. Charlotte stops that to bump Raquel off buckles! Charlotte CHPOS, but Raquel ELBOWS her down! SmackDown returns to single picture and Raquel drags Charlotte up. Gut wrench and Canadian Rack! Charlotte endures being stretched out in this modified Gory Especial!

The fans rally, Charlotte sits up and sunset flips! Raquel rolls through to BOOT Charlotte down! Raquel stomps Charlotte, taunts “The Queen,” then drags Charlotte up just to DECK her! Raquel steps on Charlotte, goes up the corner, TWISTING VADER misses but just barely! Charlotte clinches, BACKBREAKER and BUCKLE SHOT! Charlotte shoves Raquel out, ROCKS her with a forearm, and then ROCKS her again! And again! The fans “WOO~” as the CHOPS return! Charlotte CHOPS, CHOPS, and CHOPS! Raquel goes to ropes, runs up, but Charlotte dodge! HANDSPRING LARIAT! The fans fire up with Charlotte as she stands tall!

Charlotte waistlocks Raquel to GERMAN SUPLEX! And then a kip up! The fans fire up as Charlotte goes after Raquel. Charlotte whips, Raquel reveres, but Charlotte goes up and out! Charlotte BOOTS Raquel away, goes up the corner, and CROSSBODIES! Direct hit, but Raquel rolls through with it! Raquel scoops to SPINNING POWERSLAM! Cover, TWO!! Charlotte survives and the fans fire up! Even Alexa is impressed but Raquel is further frustrated. The fans rally for Charlotte while Raquel seethes. Raquel drags Charlotte up, talks more trash, then gets under her for the TEXAN- NO, Charlotte slips free!

Charlotte avoids a boot to give a BOOT! But then Roxie gets on the apron! Charlotte grabs Roxie, BOOTS her down, and Alexa CLOCKS Raquel! HOTSHOT from Alexa, BOOT from Charlotte! Roll-up, Charlotte wins!

Winner: Charlotte Flair, by pinfall

The daughter of the Dirtiest Player in the Game gets a great assist from her totally-not-friend teammate! Will this be just the thing they need before going for gold at SummerSlam?

Adam Pearce is on the phone backstage.

He’s still handling the mysterious car crash, but the officers come by in person. They ask Pearce where they can find Jacob Fatu. For what? Well, he’s a person of interest in the investigation. Seriously? Jacob Fatu? Yes, sir. Well, follow him. They go around the corner, they spot Jacob, and Pearce says the officers have some questions about the hit ‘n’ run with Solo. What? Fatu ain’t going with no punk ass police! He didn’t even do nothing! They ask he calm down, he says no, they’re too close. Pearce calms Fatu down, just answer some questions and that’s it. Let’s not make this worse than it already is.

The Samoan Werewolf goes off to the side with the officers, but is it perhaps too easy to assume it was him? And if so, then who really rammed the MFT SUV?

WWE hears from both Tiffany Stratton and Jade Cargill.

The Wrestling Barbie says, “In two weeks, I will defend the WWE Women’s Championship against Jade Cargill at SummerSlam. And a lot has changed since we both debuted in the Royal Rumble.” And The Storm adds, “Tiffany and I both came up in this game quick.” They both had friendships destroyed, they both won gold, but Tiff points out the difference is… Only one of them has kept theirs. Jade points out that while Tiff became a champion, Jade fought through injury and betrayal, two pains that both change you. She let Naoim distract her, but that’s done. Now Jade goes for what’s hers: THE WWE Women’s Championship.

Tiff says time after time, she has been underestimated. “Just another dumb blonde, too naive, too inexperienced,” she has heard it all. But guess who is standing here as the WWE Women’s Champion? Not Trish Stratus, not Nia Jax, not Charlotte Flair. It’s Tiff! Jade says she’s been doubted and disrespected but she’s walked through the storm and earned the crown. Tiff is what they expect, but Jade is what they can’t control. Tiff says after SummerSlam, Jade will just be another name on the long list of those Tiff has beaten. Jade says she won’t just be another name. She doesn’t get attitude, she ends them. And at SummerSlam, Jade ends Tiffy Time, because a storm is coming.

Is there time still on the clock for Tiffany Stratton? Or is Jade’s time right around the corner?

Damian Priest is backstage.

The Archer of Infamy asks Carmelo Hayes if he’s seen Aleister Black. Nope. And even if he had, he wouldn’t say anything to Priest. What was that? Priest swears Melo finds the wrong time to open his mouth. Melo says nah, this was the right time. Because Melo warned Priest that this would happen, it happened, so don’t get hot at H1M, bro. Priest admits, Melo was right. But at some point, Priest will find Aleister. And while Aleister likes to think he’s big, bad ‘n’ evil, when Priest catches his ass, Aleister will be on his knees praying for forgiveness. And y’know what? Priest doesn’t even know why he was trying to play peacemaker. That’s not who he is.

But Priest is the guy who goes to the ring, he shuts people’s mouths, then he goes out to celebrate. Oh, okay. But Priest won’t have anything to celebrate cuz he ain’t gonna shut Melo’s mouth. Oh, is that right? Yeah, that’s right. Then how about they go 1v1 tonight? Melo says thank God, he’s been looking for an opportunity! Especially against a former world champion. Priest will get put out two times, back to back. Priest laughs and says he really hopes Melo keeps that energy tonight. See you in the ring. Will Priest make sure Melo faces some punishment for mouthing off? Or will Melo not miss the game winner this time?

Damian Priest VS Carmelo Hayes!

SmackDown returns as Priest makes his entrance with a lot of new smoke and mist going off. Priest gets in Melo’s face before going to the corner to pose. Melo almost goes after Priest but thinks better of it. But then Priest goes up another corner for more posing, and Melo attacks after all! The fans boo and the ref reprimands but Melo HAMMERS away on Priest! Melo stomps Priest down, backs off, and the ref checks with Priest. Priest still wants to fight so the bell rings, and Melo fires off again! Melo CLUBS Priest, soaks up heat from San Antonio, then whips. But Priest blocks! Priest whips Melo, Melo ducks ‘n’ dodges, and he ROCKS Priest!

Melo runs, but Priest CLOBBERS him! Priest finally takes his duster off and he drags Melo up to TOSS to a corner! Priest fires off heavy hands in return, then UPPERCUTS! The fans fire up and Priest whips. Melo grabs ropes, KICKS Priest, but Priest just gets mad again! Priest DECKS Melo! Melo tumbles out of the ring, Priest pursues, and Priest brings Melo around to scoop. Priest aims, but Melo slips free! Priest avoids hitting the post, but Melo DROPKICKS him into it! Priest falls, Melo flexes, and SmackDown goes to break.

SmackDown returns again and Melo has Priest down. Melo talks trash, slaps Priest around, then soaks up the heat from the fans. Melo says Priest is stupid! Stupid! Priest is pissed and he slams the mat, which fires the fans up! Priest rises to fire shots on Melo! Priest DECKS Melo, DECKS him again, then dodges a lariat to FLAPJACK! Melo flounders to a corner and the fans fire up! Priest runs in, BACK ELBOW! Priest keeps moving, JUMP SHOULDER TACKLE! The fans fire up with Priest and he powers up his arm. Melo rises as Priest winds up, but Melo runs for it! Priest grabs Melo at the apron, but Melo HOTSHOTS the arm!

Melo runs, ducks ‘n’ dodges, springboard and FLYING LARIAT! The fans boo but Melo kips up! Melo grins as he watches Priest go to a corner. Melo tunes up the band, what a shot at HBK while we’re here in San Antonio! But Priest blocks the kick! And clamps on the guzel! SOUTH- NO, Melo slips free, ducks an elbow, but the BELL CLAP hits! But Melo hits LA MYSTICA! Then he springboards, but into a HAYMAKER! Priest kicks Melo low, reels him in and Canadian Racks! But Melo slips free! Melo goes to the corner, Priest runs in, but Melo dodges! Priest hits buckles and Melo climbs up top! Melo aims, NOTHING-

NOI, Priest dodges, that’s an airball! Priest clamps on, SOUTH OF- THE FIRST 48! Melo counters, then he goes up top! Melo hits a FROG SPLASH! Cover, TWO! Priest survives and the fans fire up! The fans fire up, “This is Awesome!” as Priest goes for the ropes. Melo stomps away on Priest, kicks him outside, then goes to the apron. Melo lines up a shot, he leaps again, but into a FOREARM! FLATLINER onto the desk! The fans fire up for Priest and he goes back to the ring. Priest has Melo with the knuckle lock, and we get some more Texas shoutouts as Priest goes Old School! BUT ALEISTER APPEARS!? And he trips Priest up!

Winner: Damian Priest, by disqualification

The fans boo as The Dark Father finds Priest first! Priest sputters and coughs from getting hit south of Heaven in his own right. The fans chant “You Suck! You Suck!” at Aleister, but he just tell Priest, “I heard you were looking for me.” BLACK MASS!! Down goes Priest, and Melo says he’s good. Melo leaves, and Aleister promises Priest he won’t need to come looking. Will Aleister make sure the Archer of Infamy doesn’t live forever, but instead #FadeToBlack?

The Wyatt Sick6 have a message.

Uncle Howdy says, “Look up. See us. We are where we belong.” Dexter Lumis says, “The Street Profits have shown that their bond is only held together by the lust for gold.” Erick Rowan says, “But we are built for this. A new family forged through pain. It’s not defined by the blood we share.” Nikki Cross laughs, and so does the rest of the family. Nikki says, “What about the blood that we shed?” Joe Gacy says, “One by one, we shall strip these teams of their wicked desires, and burn their vanity.” Howdy says, “You have been blind to the frailty of your favorite teams. Let the Wyatt Sick6 be your guide. All you have to do is follow.”

As truths are brought to light, will SmackDown belong to the darkness?

Solo Sikoa & MFT go to the ring.

San Antonio is a bit torn seeing the WWE United States Champion lead the way for JC Mateo, Tonga Loa & Talla Tonga. Solo grabs the mic as the four enter the ring, but the fans chant for either “FATU! FATU!” or “O T C! O T C!” Then the fans boo as Solo says, “Ladies and gentlemen, tonight is the perfect example of who Jacob Fatu really is. Without my guidance, Jacob is reckless! Okay? He don’t care about anybody. He doesn’t listen to anybody. All he cares about is his damn self!” The fans taunt Solo with “WHAT?” and “FATU! FATU!” Solo says he gave Jacob the world, gave him everything!

Solo brought him here to the WWE, made him successful, put money in his pocket and put food on his family’s table. Solo made Jacob a champion, and he deserves NONE OF IT! Jacob is so selfish, he betrayed his family! But Solo should’ve known. Once a criminal, always a criminal! The fans boo but Solo laughs and mocks the geeking out. But wait, Jimmy Uso is welcoming the police back in? Fatu has been released, and the officer apologizes. Upon reviewing footage from the parking lot, they could tell it was NOT Jacob Fatu. He is free to go handle business. Yeah, whatever… Fatu storms to gorilla and Solo is freaking out!

San Antonio fires up for Fatu as the music starts! The Samoan Werewolf splashes himself with some water right quick before he steps out under the bright lights! Fatu lets his dreads loose, but that’s still 4v1! Wait, BIG JIM dumps Talla Tonga! And GAMANGIRIS Solo! Jimmy & Jacob brawl with Loa & JC! SUPERKICK for Loa, then a dodge and CROSSBODY on JC! DOUBLE SUPERKICKS and Talla falls against the barriers! Jimmy whips so that Jacob can reverse, Jimmy CLOBBERS Talla into the timekeeper’s area! Fatu storms in and he HAMMERS away on Solo! Jimmy adds some chairs to the mix, but Solo runs away! Jimmy says no you don’t, baby bro! Jimmy puts Solo in and Jacob SUPERKICKS! Then HIP ATTACK in the corner! Jacob geeks out, the fans fire up, and now Jacob has the chair!

The fans boo, Jimmy gets in, and he SUPERKICKS Loa back down! JC has Jimmy, Talla gets Solo to safety! Jacob SUPERKICKS JC! Jimmy goes up, aims at Loa, USO SPLASH! Then MIGHTY MOONSAULT onto JC! The fans fire up and Solo freaks out again! Jacob still has the chair, and he warns Solo this is what he’s gonna get! Jacob SMACKS JC on the back! Then he SMACKS Loa! Then SMACK for JC! Then SMACK for Loa! Pearce walks out here and he tells, “Solo, Solo, Solo…

“You wanna frame an innocent man and get Jacob locked up? Okay, let’s see how you like it… At SummerSlam! Look at me, Solo! Because you will defend your United States Championship against Jacob Fatu…! INSIDE A STEEL CAGE!” The fans fire up and Pearce adds one more thing. He has the police come out to arrest Solo! Solo is furious, but he’ll have to seethe in a San Antonio jail cell for the night! Will Solo soon wish he could stay there instead of in the cage with the Samoan Werewolf?

Stephanie Vaquer VS Alba Fyre w/ Piper Niven!

La Primera won the Evolution Battle Royal and is simply waiting for her title match at the Clash in Paris. But will Vaquer be en fuego this deep into the summer heat? Or will the Secret Her-vice look to slow her roll on behalf of The Hot Mess?

SmackDown returns and The Secret Her-vice make their entrance. The bell rings, Alba and Vaquer waistlock, Alba switches and SLAMS Vaquer. Alba flips Vaquer over but Vaquer kips up to arm-drag! Alba then DIVES and takes Vaquer down at the ramp! Alba salutes, the fans boo, but Alba puts Vaquer in the ring.

Alba goes up a corner, aims, and SWANTON BOMBS but onto knees! Vaquer then SUPERKICKS Alba, reels her in, and hits a BIG back suplex! The fans fire up as Vaquer wraps on the headscissors! DEVIL’S KISS! AH AH AH AH AH AH AH AH AH AH! YEEEEEAH~! Alba flounders, Vaquer drags her up and tucks her in, but Alba fights to a Gory Especial! Vaquer flips up and over, tucks and S V B!! Cover, Vaquer wins!

Winner: Stephanie Vaquer, by pinfall

Vaquer puts out the Fyre, but then Piper CLOBBERS Vaquer! And SENTONS! The fans boo but Piper talks trash. Piper drags Vaquer to the corner, climbs up, but Vaquer rises up to SHOVE Piper over! The fans cheer as Piper tumbles! Piper gets up but Vaquer SUPERKICKS her down! Vaquer thwarts the Secret Her-vice, will Chelsea Green have to handle this pressing issue herself?

Backstage interview with The Street Profits.

Cathy Kelley  is with Montez Ford, Angelo Dawkins & B-Fab, and notes we are only a week removed from their loss to the Wyatts. Now that they’ve had time to process, how are they feeling? Ford says last week was a good week for The Wyatts. They came up from their swamp, used their sneaky tactics, and took those tag team titles directly out of the Profits’ hands. Ain’t that something? Wow. Ford gets serious and says if we’re keeping it 150, that’s a reality they’re not ready to face right now. Dawkins says they’re not going anywhere any time soon. And best believe, they’ll get those titles back with the quickness.

Then that brings Cathy to her next question. There are four teams competing in a #1 contenders match, how are upset that the Profits were not included? Ford says it has been chaos, we all saw it. But then DIY walk by and mockingly applaud. Johnny Gargano says, “Look who it is! The guys who blew it last week against The Wyatt Sick6! And look who’s here once again to save the SmackDown Tag Division.” Tommaso Ciampa says this is a division that they love. But honestly, DIY always knew the Profits didn’t have what it takes. But like any true great leader knows, that if you want something done right, you do it yourself.

Candice says they should pay attention, they might learn something. B-Fab tells the Poison Pixie to watch her little… Ford has her stand down, and DIY goes to the ring. Will Gargano & Ciampa put their money where their mouths are and grab those golden tickets? Or will another team dare to follow the buzzards?

WWE Tag Team Championships #1 Contenders’ Fatal 4 Way: #DIY VS Motor City Machine Guns VS Fraxiom VS Andrade & Rey Fenix!

SmackDown returns as the newest duo of El Idolo & Immortal Firebird make their entrance. Nathan Frazer & Axiom are already in the ring with DIY and MCMG. In this Fatal 4 Way, only two teams are legal at a time, and Frazer steps up against Chris Sabin. They tie up, Sabin wrenches and wrangles Frazer with a wristlock, but Frazer kips up, wrenches back, but Sabin rolls, handsprings, and wrenches Frazer. Frazer rolls, handsprings, and he WRINGS Sabin, only for Sabin to UP KICK! Frazer kips up and the fans fire up, but DIY attacks them both! The fans boo, the ref reprimands, but DIY also BLAST Shelley and Axiom!

Gargano runs up on Andrade but Andrade GAMANGIRIS first! Fenix springboards to MISSILE DROPKICK Ciampa! Then Andrade gives Fenix a boost to RANA Gargano! The fans fire up, Andrade y Fenix both build speed, but Fraxiom slips in and DOUBLE SUPERKICK them down! The fans are torn but then Fraxiom runs, only for MCMG to trip them up! MCMG drags Fraxiom out, then they build speed to WRECK DIY with baseball slide dropkicks! The fans fire up, Shelley holds the ropes open, Sabin DIVES through the five hole! Down goes DIY again and San Antonio fires up while SmackDown goes to break.

SmackDown returns again and DIY go after all the other teams again! But Shelley slips around Gargano to facelock, then he catches Ciampa! Sabin adds an ENZIGIRI to the COMPLETE SHOT DDT COMBO! The fans rally up while MCMG and DIY are all down. Shelley staggers to a corner, Axiom tags in! Axiom GERMAN SUPLEXES Gargano while Frazer drags Shelley away. Axiom then BLASTS Andrade y Fenix, tags Frazer, and Fraxiom hit the SPEED BLITZ on Ciampa! Fenix is in, Fraxiom dodges to fire off kicks! ASSISTED DROPKICK! Fenix falls out of the ring, Frazer and Axiom DIVE! Down go Andrade and MCMG!

Fraxiom keeps going, DIVE onto Fenix and DIVE onto DIY! They #NeverSlowDown and put Ciampa in! Frazer tags Axiom back in, MISSILE DROPKICIK LEG SWEEP! Cover, Andrade uses Frazer to break it! “This is Awesome!” as Andrade hurries to drag Ciampa over! Fenix tags in off Ciampa and San Antonio fires up! Fenix goes up and CROSSBODIES Frazer! Fenix keeps moving, he dodges Axiom to JUMP SOBAT! Then he tags Andrade, Andrade brings Axiom in, snap suplex! That’s Uno Amigo! Another suplex, that’s Dos Amigos! And then Latino Heat for THREE AMIGOS! Tag to Fenix and he goes up for the FROG SPLASH! Cover, EVERYONE breaks it up!

The fans fire up as there is a mess of seven people in the ring, Andrade beside himself on the outside. “This is Awesome!” as all the teams regroup. They all spot someone, and it is a brawl! Fenix with Axiom, Andrade with Frazer, and naturally DIY with MCMG! The fans fire up, things spill outside, DIY whips MCMG, but MCMG dosido! DIY dodge, MCMG dodge back, LARIATS on DIY in the corners! Frazer slips in and slips around Sabin to waistlock, but Shelley waistlocks Frazer. Frazer switches with Shelley but Sabin helps Shelley get free! They KICK and SUPERKICK, but then Axiom SUPERKICKS Shelley!

Sabin kicks, Axiom blocks, and Frazer SLINGBLADES Sabin down! Andrade y Fenix get in and CHOP Fraxiom! They CHOP some more, then double whip Axiom to a corner. Fenix SPLASHES Axiom while Andrade SPLASHES Frazer! Then they trade, SPLASHES the other way! Axiom is fed to a SOBAT, KICK, and FOREARM! The fans fire up and “UNO! DOS! TRES!” NO, Ciampa tags in off of Fenix! And Gargano GAMANGIRIS Andrade! ONE FINAL BEAT on Andrade! But Axiom cradles Ciampa! TWO!! Ciampa LARIATS Axiom, hoists him up, PROJECT CIAMPA! Cover, TWO!! Axiom survives and Ciampa can’t believe it, but SmackDown goes picture in picture.

Ciampa is beside himself and even Candice is stressed out. Ciampa drags Axiom up just to CHOP him down. Axiom goes to the apron, Ciampa follows, and he CHOPS again! And CHOPS again! Ciampa soaks up the heat as he swings, but Axiom blocks! Axiom CHOPS, GAMANGIRIS, then hurries to the corner. Ciampa goes up after Axiom to ROCK him first! Ciampa climbs, he and Axiom brawl, and the others gather nearby. Axiom ROCKS Ciampa, Ciampa CHOPS Axiom! And CHOPS again! Axiom wobbles up top, Ciampa drags him back up, and Ciampa fireman’s carries Axiom! SUPER AIR RAID CRASH onto the cluster!

The ref hurries to check on everyone, that was a wild landing onto six other men! Candice also makes sure DIY is okay. All eight men are able to continue, so Gargano sends Shelley into the LED apron! And he BOOTS Sabin down! Ciampa puts Axiom in the ring, brings his kneepad down, and aims from the corner. Ciampa runs in, PSYCHO KNEE on Axiom! Cover, TWO!! Axiom survives and Ciampa is furious! Ciampa tags Gargano, they get Axiom up, SUPERKICK FAIRYTALE ENDING! Then they set up in the corners, but Sabin tags in off Gargano! Sabin ROCKS Gargano, ROCKS Ciampa, then goes up the corner! DOUBLE CROSSBODY!

SmackDown returns to single picture as Sabin SOBATS Gargano, reels him in, and kicks off Ciampa, only for Gargano to stop the Tornado DDT! Sabin dodges the lariat, Shelley is in, and the atomic drop starts up the Dream Sequence! DETROIT FACE LIFT! The fans fire up and MCMG run up on Axiom, BOOT ENZIGIRI COMBO! Shelley climbs while Sabin turns Axiom, but Andrade CLOBBERS Shelley off the top! Fenix ROCKS Sabin, Andrade tags in! Andrade dodges Axiom to LEAPING FOREARM! Then he TOSSES Sabin out! Andrade drags Axiom to a drop zone, steps on him as he goes to the corner, and the fans fire up!

But Axiom rises to ENZIGIRI a leg! Frazer tags in, Axiom climbs, and we get he SUPER SPANISH FLY! But Ciampa tags in off Frazer before the PHOENIX SPLASH!! Cover, but it won’t count with Ciampa now legal! Gargano CLOBBERS Axiom, Ciampa TOSSES Frazer, and DIY covers! Fenix CODE BREAKER SENTONS to break it up! The fans are thunderous as Fenix rises! Fenix whips, Ciampa reverses, but Fenix goes Spider-Man in the ropes! REWIND HEEL! Fenix then goes up, up, and TORNILLOS onto the others! The fans fire up again and Andrade has Ciampa! Underhook, but Candice distracts on the apron!

The fans boo but Ciampa rolls Andrade, with tights! TWO! Ciampa dodges Andrade, hooks the arms, but Andrade ducks, Gargano’s SUPERKICK hits Ciampa! Gargano panics, Andrade hits the SHADOW ELBOW! Andrade calls to Fenix, and Fenix FLIES up and over to take out Gargano! Then Andrade sends THE MESSAGE! Cover, Andrade y Fenix win!!

Winners: Andrade & Rey Fenix, by pinfall

This team may be the newest combination, but when it clicks, it just clicks! Will El Idolo & Immortal Firebird send the same message to Joe Gacy & Dexter Lumis? Or will the fireflies descend upon The Land?

Adam Pearce is in the ring.

The Raw General Manager is again substituting for Nick Aldis as he welcomes us to the official contract signing for the Undisputed WWE Championship match set for SummerSlam! Please join him in welcoming the challenger, The American Nightmare, Cody Rhodes! San Antonio sounds a bit conflicted, but they still sing along with Kingdom, “WHOA~ OH~!” Cody gets his pyro and he brings the contract to the ring. Cody joins Pearce at the table as we reach the second “WHOA~ OH~!” They shake hands, and Cody grabs the pen to sign his part of the contract. Cody then grabs the mic to say, “So, San Antonio…! Whaddya wanna talk about?”

Cody appreciates the warm reception making him feel like a Texan. Cody’s father was a Texan, his older brother is a Texan. They were outlaws and all Cody ever wanted to be was just like them. Cody got to be something different, though, he got to be the WWE Undisputed Champion. This past week, he posted to social media, and the moment he hit “Send,” it was overanalyzed, scrutinized, and dissected. The gist was simple: Do not flinch, thank you for riding with me. The fans do cheer that, but Cody says the first part might have been more for Cody. He did not flinch when at the age of 35, he returned at WrestleMania and came home.

Cody did not flinch when he was across from a future Hall of Famer while he had a muscle hanging off the bone. He did not flinch when he stood across from The Beast, when he went back to back in the Royal Rumble, one of them here in this very city… And Cody did not flinch when he faced his friend, his brother, Jey Uso, or when he faced his mentor, Randy Orton, or when that politicking Final Boss came for his soul and for his spot! The fans cheer, and Cody cools down a bit. Cody admits, he did flinch at WrestleMania 41 against one of the most beloved wrestlers in the history of their sport, John Cena.

The fans are even more torn hearing that name. And Cody understands that. It is an unenviable task trying to take away something from one of the most beloved wrestlers in the history of the game. But nonetheless, it is the task Cody was born for. At SummerSlam, it is one match for the rest of Cody’s life. And Cody knows that he has signed, but it takes two to tango. So Mr. Pearce, if you will. Pearce welcomes out now the Undisputed WWE Champion, JOHN CENA! The fans fire up as Cena’s music hits, and yet they still sing, “JOHN CENA SUCKS~!” Cena shows the Spurs inspired towel and gear before he goes to the ring.

Cena has the music stop and he wants Cody to sit down. They sit at the table and Cena says give him a second, really. Cena wants Cody to understand, he has some bad news. Cena is not going to be at SummerSlam. Yes, this is the first time they’re all hearing this, but this is a decision Cena made and took to the top of the chain of command. Hear him out, please. The fans boo but Cena says we all know Cena is recording a big movie for Netflix in New York, there are no surprises for them. Things have been transparent, Cena is emotionally exhausted, and perhaps it is best Cena does not physically compete at SummerSlam.

The fans boo but Cena doesn’t want anyone jumping to conclusions. Cena is here to be the good guy. He knows Cody earned his rematch, he will get it, maybe in Paris or Perth. But as far as SummerSlam, guys, no, there is no way in good faith that Cena can sign the contract, okay? The fans boo but Cen ais still defensive. He is just as upset, we’re all upset. There is nothing we can do here, though. There is nothing they can do. If the name goes on the contract, Cena has to be there. They waited until the final second, it was a tough choice to make, but “we talked,” and “everyone” understands Cena worked hard, he just is emotionally out of it.

This is a tough decision but it is what is best for business, okay? The fans continue to boo but Cena wants them to be reasonable. They don’t even know how hard it was to make it here tonight. Seriously! This is his farewell tour! He wanted to give us fireworks and a night to remember. Cody is getting worked up, he does not believe this for a second. Cena says right now, physically, emotionally, this is all he can give us. The fans continue to boo, but Cena thanks them all for being here, he appreciates their understanding and their patience in this matter. Cena thanks Cody for this, the rematch is coming, just… Goodnight, San Antonio.

Cena exits but Cody throws off his jacket! Cody runs Cena down and fires hands! The fans fire up as Cody makes Cena go back to the ring! Cody SMACKS Cena off the apron, whips, but Cena reverses to send Cody into steel steps! Cena SMACKS Cody off the steps, then puts him in the ring! Cena runs away!? Wait, he grabs the belt instead! Cena storms into the ring with it, takes aim, but Cody ducks the belt shot! Cody kicks low, KICKS the belt into the air, and Cody has it now! Cena staggers about, Cody runs up, BELT SHOT on Cena!! The fans fire up as Cody has the contract. Cody pushes Cena onto the table, and he punches away on Cena’s head!

Cody opens the contract, brings it with him to the corner, and climbs up top!? DIVING BODY PRESS through the table!! Cena sputters, Cody grabs the pen, and he puts it in Cena’s hand! Cody MAKES Cena sign his name on the contract! Cody is fuming as he grabs a mic to say, “John Cena! Check the fine print! It’s not just a match for the title at SummerSlam! It’s a STREET FIGHT!!” The fans are thunderous as the American Nightmare just upped the ante on The GOAT! Will the Never-Seen Seventeen even survive to see the end of his farewell tour? Or will Cody make sure justice is served in New Jersey?

My Thoughts:

A great SmackDown to add some fire to SummerSlam here. For one, real clever though quick whodunnit with the parking lot incident. MFT framing Jacob Fatu was clever, because I believe Fatu did once ram someone’s car with his when he first showed up and was under Solo’s command. But naturally, they get found out, and we get a great brawl from Jacob & Jimmy against MFT. I’m pretty sure Jimmy & Jacob will face JC & Loa in a tag match to further hype the US Championship Steel Cage match. But being a cage match, those always incite interference so somehow, I feel like MFT costs Jacob.

Really fun stuff from Charlotte VS Raquel as we also see Charlotte and Alexa grow a bit closer as a team. Great win with Alexa helping Charlotte cheat the cheaters, and that tag title match will be great stuff. Very good promo from Priest and Melo and a great match between them, but Aleister “ruining” it was a logical move to build the Priest-Aleister feud. They’ll surely set a match up soon, and I feel like Aleister needs the win more than Priest. Very quick stuff with Vaquer beating Alba and then punking out Piper, and no Chelsea. But then Kiana James makes a very subtle return talking with Giulia. I’m not sure what that could lead to, I don’t think Giulia needs a manager, unless Kiana reveals herself to be a “Secretary of Something Something” for Chelsea.

Very good promo from Tiffany and Jade to hype up their match, which could go either way not that there’s no cash-in to worry about. Honestly, if the WWE does their Draft after SummerSlam on the road to Clash in Paris, I could see them moving Vaquer over to officially be on SmackDown and she challenges for that title. Very good promo from the full Wyatt Sick6, stating that as is always the way with The Wyatts, they’re exposing those inner Heel tendencies of Face superstars/teams, we’ll see who they affect first. The Profits had a good promo with DIY, it probably isn’t either of those teams, DIY are already strongly Heel and the Profits didn’t give off any strong Heel vibes.

That was an awesome tag Fatal 4 Way, all four teams getting to bust out their stuff. But I figured Andrade & Fenix would win, it makes for the freshest match-up, but is also a team that can easily fall apart since they only just joined together. The tag match happening next week for SmackDown does foreshadow that a bit. And great contract signing segment with Cody and Cena. The mixed reaction for Cody is intriguing, perhaps his long monologuing promos are starting to grate. At the same time, Cody always pontificating is perhaps a sign he’s dipping back into that strange “He’s a Heel but doesn’t act it” thing he tried in AEW.

But Cody was still the Face here as Cena got all the heat trying to weasel his way out of this match. Cody beating him up was great, classic contract signing stuff. But with a couple more weeks before SummerSlam, the go-home math isn’t finalized, so if Cena finds a way to stand tall the next time, maybe that indicates Cody wins the title back. Honestly, not sure which direction I’d prefer.

My Score: 8.8/10

Go Home for Slammiversary!

Published

on

It’s Thursday again, so I guess we get to see if…I don’t even know. I just want the show to be entertaining at least. I’ve stopped expecting coherent stories or writing over a 4th grade level, just entertain me for 2 hours at this point.

That’s all I got for a lead in, is it the Go Home for Slammiversary? Sure, but that doesn’t usually mean anything in TNA. So just make me not dread Sunday. Bar is low Delirious and Dreamer, just don’t make me stroke out.

Ratings:

  • Moose w/Alisha Edwards vs Sami Callihan: Moose wins via Lights Out – *
  • The System vs Order 4:
  • Tessa Blanchard w/Victoria Crawford vs Dani Luna: Tessa wins via Magnum – ** 3/4
  • One of the Northern Armoury Losers vs Home Town Man: Homie the clown wins – ***
  • Matt Cardona vs Jake Painter
  • Frankie Kazarian & Trick Williams vs Joe Hendry & Mike Santana: Santana wins via Spin the Block – ***

Results:

Moose w/Alisha Edwards vs Sami Callihan

Sami runs into a boot immediately, Moose Irish Whips, tries a second but eats the buckle and hits a Stunner for an early near fall. Sami lines up for something, but Moose moves, changes direction and hits a Spear off the rope run. Sami powders, Moose tries for the world’s slowest stupid Braun Strowman run around the ring thing, Sami catches Moose, drops him, throws him into the ring, tries the Cactus Driver and eats another Lights Out Spear and that was a waste of five minutes.

Moose had a pretty basic post match promo until he started fat shaming Sami saying he should be in catering. That was the only good part of his promo.

The System vs Order 4

Darkstate attacks The System before the match, and The System has Failed. Order 4 just walk away and Darkstate leave them lying. Match never happens.

Tessa Blanchard w/Victoria Crawford vs Dani Luna

Dani starts the power game early, throwing Tessa over her shoulder, slamming her, Tanaka style Sliding D for a near fall, into a Top Wristlock with a twist, Tessa powders to the corner, eats a chop, Whip, and as Dani tries to Up and Over, Tessa kicks her legs out from under her and goes for two quick near falls. Running Kick from Tessa to Dani’s shoulder blades, kick to the face, Slingshot Elbow. Dani starts fighting back with punches, uppercuts, but Tessa Hip Toss, strike, Hesitation Rope Run Dropkick into Ground and Pound, then a Stump Puller into a DDT on the leg.

Tessa tries to sink in the Front Choke, but Dani stands and lifts it into a Vertical Suplex. They get to their feet, Tessa feeds into a bunch of punches and kicks from Dani, whip into ropes, Luna Landing attempt but Tessa slips it and Luna just kicks her in the chest. Powerbomb attempt into Cradle Counters, but Dani grabs a Stack Powerbomb for a 2. Another Luna Landing attempt but Tessa gets out, shoves her into the corner, Shotei, tries to ties her up in the corner for the Draping Magnum, Dani fights out, goes to the other corner, kicks Dani’s legs out, hits the Draping Magnum, but on a two count. Tessa goes for the normal Magnum and Dani catches her! Turns it into a rope assisted Blue Thunder Bomb for two. Dani wants a Luna Landing, Victoria tries to interfere, the referee admonishes her, Tessa gets away from Dani and hits Magnum for the win.

Indi comes down to make the save after Victoria and Tessa start the post match beatdown. Not a bad match, clunky at times, weird looking finish, but generally pretty good.

The Elegance Clique come out, and ASH gives a solid promo bitching about her attack on the IInspiration, and this may be her best promo. She sounds determined and confident, not goofy. Fatal Influence walks out to interrupt taking offense to the female faction thing, Masha comes out so ASH excuses the Clique, Masha can’t talk, her promo falls flat and sounds stupid. ASH was the best promo during this segment.

One of the Northern Armoury Losers vs Home Town Man

THE ONLY TIME I ROOT FOR DEANER.

Homie hits the Flip Flop and Fly, into the 10 count punches, another punch, Airplane Spin twice into a TKO, nerd dork kicks out. Bald nerd interferes, loser face bites Homie the Clown, hits a moronic jumping forearm on a kneeling opponent. I think I just had a stroke typing that moronic offense. Bites at the mask, clubbing blows, Homie slap chops back up, bald nerd interferes to try and take off the mask. Dude goes for the Stroke Out Forearm again, but misses, strikes into a Scoop Slam from Homie, he looks for the Dudley Dog, but countered, Dive onto nerd, Sliced Bread for the win.

EY hits the ring late to try and attack Homie but Homie bails.

Low-key, since the Home Town Man theme is a remix of Born and Raised in the USA (AJ Styles and Jerry Lynn’s first TNA theme), I’d love the reveal to be AJ Styles at Slammiversary. Super Eric vs HTM, get ready to fucking fly.

Matt Cardona vs Jake Painter

Cardona calls out Darkstate before the match starts, they take a beat but then strike, Cardona and the jobber fight Darkstate, before Cardona gets Molly Whopped Myers comes down for the save, and it takes the rest of The System a minute to attack with a chair and Kenny the Kendo Stick. Another nothing match, but The System is…babyface?

Hardys came out for a talking spot that just devolved into a brawl with all the tag teams involved in the match at Slammiversary, really nothing overly intriguing aside from Rascalz, KC Navarro and Ryan Nemeth being gold.

Frankie Kazarian & Trick Williams vs Joe Hendry & Mike Santana

Trick attacks Joe and Mike as they’re arguing over who starts, we cut to commercial, Joe is working over Frankie when we come back, Joe moves back to his corner but Santana tags himself in and 3 Amigos for a near fall and then the Latino Heat shimmy. Mike telegraphs the Back Body Drop, Kaz hits a Twisting Neckbreaker, Kaz tags out and a Double Team Trip Dropkick rocks Mike. Mike then eats a Leg Lariat off the whip and near fall at two. Trick Chops in the corner, Mike reverses it, but then Trick catches it, Whips Mike and hits the Okada Dropkick and tags out to Kaz. Kidney Punches as Trick has him in the front facelock. Suplex from Kaz, and he’s slowing things down to connect on the deliberate strikes.

Kaz tries some reversals, Rolling Buck Fifty has Kaz rocked, but veteran savvy and heel cheap shots stop Santana’s momentum and Kaz connects on the Slingshot Leg Drop, tags in Trick, Trick tries the 3 Amigos but Santana stops them at 2, tries to hit the ropes, eats a Trick Kick, Attitude Adjustment for 2. Kaz telegraphs on Santana after he tags in, Santana tries the Rollup, but Kaz kicks out, rocks Santana, tags in Trick, quick tags in general, tandem strikes but Santana hits a Lionsault to break up Kaz and Trick, he’s conflicted but tags in Joe. Joe cleans house, Cutter on Kaz, Lariat clears out Trick, Kaz Crossbody, gets caught, Sack of Shit, Kip Up, Trick gets caught but its a roll through Sack of Shit into the Kip Up. Santana and Joe stare down, but as Hendry calls for the Standing Ovation, Santana tags himself in and Spins Kaz’s Block for the win.

Overall Score: 6/10

Entertaining, the double dose of Darkstate helped to set up the Slammiversary match, tensions between former Spitfire members, Indi and Tessa get a little more head, Joe and Santana continue to be tumultuous and Hardyz gonna Hardy.

While it was nothing overtly special, it was entertained for 2 hours, so I’ll give it credit. Also give it credit for making me root for doofus Deaner because they put him against one of the Armoury losers. So yeah, decent enough to not make me hate having to watch Slammiversary, didn’t get stale and a few matches that weren’t bad. Oh plus Moose said what we’ve all said for like a year. So someone get Sami Jenny Craig or something!
