AEW World Championship Title Eliminator: Samoa Joe VS Dustin Rhodes!
The One True King of Wrestling Television would not accept The Natural’s request for a world championship match! However, out of respect for Dustin’s storied career but also as a way to send a message to the rest of AEW, Joe is giving Dustin this opportunity to earn a shot. Will all Rhodes lead to championship gold? Or will he be put down trying?
WAIT! Swerve Strickland attacks Joe during his entrance! And he doesn’t let up! They tumble off the stage, brawl around by the crowd, and Joe sends Swerve hard into railing! Joe clears off a spare table, props it up against the railing, and then storms after Swerve. Joe CLUBS away, Swerve throws body shots but Joe whips. Swerve reverses but Joe stops from hitting table! Swerve runs back in to SPEAR Joe through the table!! The fans are thunderous for “A E DUB!” while medics check Joe. That was a rough hit against wood and railing, and refs rush out to stop Swerve from adding on. Swerve still gets his shot at Dynasty, but will Joe even make it there?
AEW shares footage from after last week’s Dynamite.
Falling short of the AEW World Tag Team Championships again clearly snapped something inside of Trent Beretta as he hit Orange Cassidy with a surprise Busaiku Knee and then stormed off, leaving even Mama Sue behind. Kris Statlander found Trent and got in his face about what he did to their Best Friend! What’s he even doing?! Trent whispered something to Kris then stormed off again. Kris didn’t seem any happier about this after that, but just what did Trent say?
Backstage interview with Best Friends.
Renee Paquette waits outside of the locker room, hoping to get a word from Orange Cassidy, even though he is a man of few words. However, what she did get from him is that this Friday Night Rampage, Cassidy will have a match, and then he will address Trent’s heartless actions.

Backstage interview with Chris Jericho, Hook & Katsuyori Shibata.
Renee is now with #LionHook and The Wrestler and notes that last week on Collision, The Ocho & FTW Champion had a great win over Shane Taylor Promotions. It wasn’t without a brutal attack from STP and their new member, Anthony Ogogo, right after. However, redemption could be here tonight in the Six Man Tag as Hook brought Shibata into the mix. What is their strategy tonight? Jericho says yes, Hook brought in Shibata, and Jericho appreciates that, it shows Hook is listening and learning from what Jericho is saying. And Jericho thinks that tonight’s strategy is simple: Hook and Shibata will sit under the learning tree of Jericho, and he will start with Ogogo.
Jericho vows to knock Ogogo’s block off after he knocked Jericho out. Then tag to Hook, he’ll dump Shane Taylor on his head. Tag to Shibata, Shibata will kick Lee Moriarty, stretch him out, put him in that sleeper hold, it’s done. If they listen to Jericho, and he knows they will, and if they breathe the rarified air of Jericho, which they are, then there’s nothing but success for them in the future. Bet? Hook says bet. Shibata has Google Translate say “Bet” for him, and they all fist bump. Jericho says he’ll see them out there, then leaves. Shibata again uses voice-to-text to ask, “What is his deal?” Hook says just trust Hook.
Shibata again uses voice to text to say he likes Renee’s necklace. She thanks him for that, and wishes him luck. The Wizard may be making this about himself, but will all three still make it work against Shane Taylor Promotions?
Backstage interview with Eddie Kingston & Mark Briscoe.
Dynamite returns as Renee is now with The Mad King and the NEW ROH World Champion. She congratulates Mark on winning that title at Supercard of Honor, and notes they put each other through a lot that night. Physically, how are they feeling with just 11 days until Dynasty and the Six Man Tag match? Mark says he ain’t gonna lie, he’s feeling amazing. But simultaneously, he’s in pain because they had a dog fight, a war! How’s Kingston feeling? A little confused, cuz he isn’t sure what “simultaneously” means. But Eddie’s beat up, but hey, it’s pro-wrestling, it’s a way of life, they gotta do what they gotta do.
Edge finds his way over to them, with Willow and Stokely Hathaway, too. Edge says he saw said dog fight, they good? Yeah? Okay. Edge is about as good as he can be. Not sure if they saw, but Brody & Julia showed up, they tried to get the jump on Edge, so he wants to make sure they’re all good. Willow says she has a great idea ahead of Dynasty, actually. But then Stokely speaks up and says what if they have a TNT Championship match, Edge VS… WILLOW! She gon’ whoop yo ass, Edge! Willow says no, that’s not the idea. Willow says Brody tried to get Edge, Julia tried to get her, but it didn’t work, Willow’s eyes are good.
So how about next week on Dynamite, they team up? Yeah, Edge likes where she’s going! So before Dynasty, House of Black VS Rated R Chickenhawks or whatever, just kinda made that up off the top of his head, before that, Mixed Tag! Edge & Willow VS Brody & Julia! Willow says yeah, that’s the plan! They fist bump and Stokely says last time he saw Eddie, he said he smelled like Newports and Burger King and he just wants to apologize. Eddie storms off and Willow has Stokely hush. Edge says congrats to Mark on the big win in Philly, but will they all get a big win in St. Louis?
The Young Bucks speak.
The EVPs, Matthew & Nicholas Jackson, sit in the back and say the TV audience is finally ready to see this footage. Without further ado, here’s the- Whoa, wait, hold on. Matt wants Nick to give the people some context. Oh, right, set the table first. Okay. Nick tells AEW that there is a massive PPV coming up. April 21st, it is AEW Dynasty. The finals of the AEW World Tag Team Championship Tournament will be FTR VS The Bucks. And that got Nick thinking, the last time they faced off was last year, AEW All In: London. There are some wounds that haven’t really healed. And those wounds have been opened up, so there’s no better time to talk about that than now.
Nick says it was the biggest show in AEW history, the biggest show in wrestling that the Bucks have ever been part of, and the biggest match they were ever part of. A lot of fans and a lot of critics said that whoever won that match would be coined as the greatest tag team of this generation. Matt says just before that match, there was an… incident… involving two individuals. The first being “The Scapegoat,” Jack Perry. Jack is a lovable kid from Southern California, much like The Bucks. Reminds Matt of themselves at that age. And someone even said about Jack that if you’ve got a problem with Jack, then you’re the problem.
And the other individual- Nick cuts Matt off there. Nick says that other guy tried to make AEW all about himself. Matter of fact, that other guy happens to be a good friend of FTR. That got Nick thinking… Maybe FTR were the masterminds behind the entire thing? Matt says Nick can’t say that. He can’t legally say that, he can’t just spread rumors and slander. Right, sorry, that is very unprofessional. Quick cut to another take, as Matthew explains that while the Bucks were dealing with the fallout of said incident, it is safe to say that The Bucks were thrown off of their game. They had to put their “EVP caps” on and neglect being pro-wrestlers for a moment.
The locker room was in disarray, respectable journalists needed answers, the Bucks had no time to hydrate or even pray. If you look in the history books, you’ll see FTR beat The Bucks at All In: London. But if you asked Matt or anyone else in this room (which is really only Nick), there needs to be an asterisk there. But hey, after opening up these old wounds, airing the laundry, the incident itself isn’t even the worst part. As you’ll see in a second, it was short, and resembles more of a high school scrap than anything.
But Matt would argue this: Not that it was a short incident, but the ramifications that came from the incident “threatened to take down our biggest show of all time,” but they’re damn lucky that it didn’t. Nick says with that being said, roll tape. The tape does roll, and while no audio is rolling, we see in admittedly low quality security camera footage, Jack Perry returning backstage, Doc Sampson checking his back after that car windshield fall in his FTW Championship match. Samoa Joe is pacing, preparing for his shot at the “Real” AEW World Championship, and then in walks over You Know Who, and he gets right in Jack’s face.
Jack tries to brush Punk off but Punk wouldn’t let it go. He kept telling Jack things, Jack didn’t seem to care very much, they argued a bit more, then Punk shoves first! Punk shoves again, Jack rams into him, there’s the facelock Punk himself has copped to, and Joe joins the refs rushing in to break this up. The two are separated, other wrestlers have walked over to see what’s the matter, that might even be Chris Hero calming Punk down. Punk storms off after that, Hook and others are calming Jack down, and that’s the end of the footage. Matt says there you have it. Again, not the worst part of the incident, not even close.
For Matt, the worst part about it all was creating a wrestling show, naming it, filling the building with the most people that have ever witnesses a wrestling show, only to be distracted by something so stupid, that you lose on your big night! Then at the end, FTR has the balls to stick their hands out to shake their damn hands? At Dynasty, The Bucks ain’t shaking your hands, “you pr*cks!” FTR better be ready! Matt unbuttons his suit jacket and it seems he’s wearing a Scapegoat Jack Perry shirt… The EVPs storm off set, message sent. Will FTR respond with actions at Dynasty?
Wait, FTR is here now!
Unscheduled to be here right now, Cash Wheeler & Dax Harwood go right to the ring and get mics! Cash asks, “Why?” Why was the footage shared? What’re the Bucks hoping to accomplish by doing this? Other than having an excuse as to why they lost at Wembley, that is. Cash isn’t sure about everyone else, but he is sick and tired of hearing about this! He is sick and tired of talking about this! Everyone back there is ready to move on, to put that moment in the past! But instead of talking about Revolution, about All In 2024 coming up, instead of talking about how AEW is doing some of the best shows ever, we’re talking about #BrawlIn! WHY!?
Because oh, “Rod & Todd Flanders” can’t let go that they lost to FTR! The fans cheer FTR and Cash says now, Dynasty, go ahead and put on those EVPs caps so you can hear this. FTR have to beat The Bucks. Not for legacy, not for history, or even to be the best tag team of all time. It is because FTR is sick of these “petty little b*tches!” The fans fire up and Dax gets the mic now. “So that’s our bosses. That’s who we work for. Every interview they have, or every time they get a chance to talk, they let us all know that without them, hundreds of people would be out of a job. They let us all know that without them, AEW probably wouldn’t exist.
“And y’know, the crazy thing, the scary thing is, I don’t necessarily disagree with you. Because without The Young Bucks, I still might be shaving Cash’s back.” But in all seriousness, because of The Bucks, FTR have something that makes them sick! That The Bucks cannot get over! They’ll never admit it, but because of The Bucks, now FTR has eclipsed them as the absolute best team on this planet! The fans cheer that! And at one time, Bucks cared about these three letters, AEW. But somewhere along the way, from greed or envy, they lost it. Now three other letters have taken over, and they only care about the EVPs.
So if it takes Dax’s last breath, on the backs of FTR, of Samoa Joe, of Swerve Strickland, of Daniel Garcia, Darby Allin, Willow Nightingale, every single man and woman in the back, who come to work every week and want to be here, they will build this. They will continue to build AEW. Not just for them, because it isn’t a selfish ambition. They’re building things for the future of pro-wrestling. So that wrestlers have a choice, can make a living, but more importantly, they are building this for every single man, woman and child that goes to work every day, week in and week out, and spends their hard-earned money on one ticket.
This is for the fans who spend their money to get lost in this drama, to get lost in this action. FTR is doing this for the people! And if The Bucks don’t wanna be part of that AEW, then go home, they’ve got this. The fans cheer FTR on, and Dax says he loves y’all, too. But again, this ain’t about Wembley, All In, All Out. This is about AEW! This is about a company Dax loves, an industry that Dax loves, but more specifically, this is about the AEW World Tag Team Championships. Two teams walk in, one team walks out to call themselves the GREATEST Tag Team in the World! One team walks out the FIRST-EVER THREE-TIME AEW World Tag Team Champions!
Bucks, you may have built this place, but brick by brick, shingle by shingle, FTR puts the roof on this house! And they’ll turn right around and blow the roof off this sumbish! #TopGuysOut! The fans are fired up with FTR, will they stop at nothing to build their Dynasty?
Renee Paquette is on stage.
She welcomes to Dynamite the Aerial Assassin, Will Ospreay! The fans fire up as the #BillyGOAT is here, and Renee says it is great to see him. She heard he has some things he wants to get off his chest, what’s going on? Ospreay says he’s been thinking about this all week, and he only just saw Bryan’s comments from last week, so he wants to respond to that, too. Apologies, guys, Ospreay wants to talk, and Tony Khan said he’s got five minutes cuz TV time’s expensive. So there’s this rumor, right? That Ospreay is afraid of “the grind?” To be honest, he doesn’t know where this conversation has come from.
Ospreay is the only guy traveling every single week between UK and US, eight to ten hours a flight, and he is delivering some of the best matches this world has ever seen, bruv! The fans cheer that! And normally, Ospreay wouldn’t rise to this type of bait, but considering the guy who said it is only in the position he has because he was grinding on the boss’ daughter… “You are in no position to tell me what the grind is all about, my friend, because you have no idea what I fight for. So let this be a painful little jab back, and a gentle reminder, that you do not throw stones at an assassin with a machine gun.”
Now to Bryan, after hearing how Bryan admitting Ospreay is: stronger than him, which he is; faster than him, which he is; and the only way Bryan has a chance of winning is if he grounds The Aerial Assassin… Ospreay says this with every bit of respect under the sun, sunshine. Healthier men have tried and failed. Younger men have tried and failed. And better men have tried and failed! And yet, yet, this is Bryan Danielson! Bryan is a living legend in this game, son! And Ospreay cannot say it any more, cannot call himself the best in the world, until after Dynasty and Ospreay pins Bryan. Because these fans have paid a lot of money to see the best wrestlers go at it!
The fans fire up for that one! Ospreay says this is AEW, where the BEST wrestle! And it is Ospreay’s time! It is his time to show every single person what he’s about, what he brings to the table, and why he is the Ace of All Elite Wrestling! Bryan, you find out on Sunday, April 21st, why he is Will Ospreay, and why he is on! Another! LEVEL! The fans are already thunderous for this dream match, but will Ospreay be able to slay the American Dragon?
Julia Hart speaks.
“Willow~…! Willow~…! Strong. Powerful. Always has a spark inside of her. But little does she know, a single spark can start a raging fire. I peel back your mask and show you carry more than smiles and rainbows. Hurt, anger, you envy me. You know what I’m capable of. Yet you keep coming back for more. I shall kill your spark, turn your smile into a frown, and make sure you never touch my crown. I am The Princess of the Black Throne, Keeper of Secrets, and it is my destiny to stay the TBS Champion. The House Always Wins.”
Six Man Tag: Chris Jericho, Hook & Katsuyori Shibata VS Shane Taylor Promotions!
As we heard The Ocho game plan earlier, he wants after Anthony Ogogo, and will leave Big Bad Shaney T. and #TAIGASTYLE to the Cold-Hearted Handsome Devil and The Wrestler. But will things go their way? Or will STP prove Mike Tyson right that everyone has a plan, ’til they get punched in the mouth?
The teams sort out and Jericho starts against Ogogo, just as he wanted. The fans rally up as the two circle, but then Ogogo says nope, and tags Lee. Jericho CLOBBERS Lee, CHOPS him, CHOPS again, then CHOPS again! Jericho headlocks, Lee powers out, but Jericho runs him over! Things keep moving, Jericho LIONSAULTS! Cover, TWO! Jericho DROPKICKS Lee, Lee goes to a corner, and Jericho clotheslines him! Jericho fires point blank clotheslines, and the fans count along as he goes to OCHO, then TEN! Jericho puts Lee up top, CHOPS, then climbs. Jericho SUPER STEINERS and the fans fire up!
Jericho keeps to the plan and he- Oh, wait, Shibata tags in. Well, Jericho did say Lee was Shibata’s so Shibata BOOTS Lee, brings him up, but Lee fires a forearm! Shibata just stares Lee down! Lee fires more forearms, then CHOPS! Shibata eggs Lee on and Lee fires a flurry. Shibata ROCKS Lee with just one! Shibata snapmares then KICKS Lee in the back! Lee avoids the Penalty Kick, scrambles away and he tags in Shane. Shibata and Shane circle, feel things out, but Hook reaches out. Again, this is the plan, so Shibata tags in Hook. The fans fire right up for the FTW Champion as he circles with Shane.
Shane throws hands but Hook bobs ‘n’ weaves! Hook fires hands in return but Shane has his guard up. Hook runs but Ogogo gets a cheap shot in! The ref reprimands but Ogogo avoids Hook’s haymaker. Shane runs up but Hook gets around, only for the SOUTHPAW to hit! The fans boo but STP soaks up the heat, and Shane drags Hook up in a corner while Dynamite goes picture in picture.
Shane CHOPS, Hook sputters, but Shane keeps him from his corner. Shane shoves Hook into the STP corner, winds up, and CHOPS again! Hook drops to his knees, Ogogo tags in, and Ogogo whips Hook to the open corner. Ogogo stomps a mudhole in, the ref counts, but Ogogo lets off at 4. Ogogo drags Hook up, snapmares, then KICKS Hook in the back! Ogogo runs to basement BOOT! Ogogo drags Hook up, bumps him off buckles, then tags in Shane. Shane stomps a mudhole now, but the ref counts. Shane digs his boots in, Lee taunts the crowd with a shimmy and shake, and Shane lets off at 4. Shane distracts the ref so Lee can CHOKE Hook!
Shane taunts Jericho & Shibata, the ref keeps them back, and Shane drags Hook up. Hook throws body shots, but Shane ROCKS him! Shane brings Hook around, scoops and SLAMS him, then runs to SPLASH! Cover, Jericho breaks it! Jericho coaches Hook on, taunts Shane, and rallies the fans. Shane snarls, but he keeps on Hook with body shots at the ropes. Hook sputters and crawls but Shane puts him in a corner. Hook fires hands in return! Shane ROKCKS Hook again, and again, and again! Shane HEADBUTTS Hook down, then stalks him back to ropes. Shane drags Hook up as Dynamite returns to single picture, and Hook fires hands!
Hook kicks, Shane blocks, and Shane shoves Hook down! Hook avoids the knee and waistlocks! GERMAN SUPLEX!! The fans are thunderous while both men are down! Hook and Shane crawl, Ogogo distracts Jericho, so hot tags to Lee and Shibata! Shibata BOOTS Lee, BLASTS Ogogo, then BOOTS Lee again! Shibata whips corner to corner and BOOTS! Shibata fires forearms, UPPERCUTS, then CHOPS! And JABS! CHOPS! JABS! CHOPS! JAB CHOPS! Shibata runs to HYDRAULIC DROPKICK! The fans are thunderous again as Shibata drags Lee up and HALF HATCHES! Cover, TWO!
Shibata keeps cool as he brings Lee back up. Shibata ROCKS Lee, ROCKS him again, and the fans rally. Shibata ROCKS Lee again, UPPERCUTS, then runs side to side. But Lee dodges, the BOOT hits Jericho! Lee rolls Shibata up, TWO! Lee fires hands on Shibata, then fires up! Lee runs, but Shibata catches him to an STO! The fans fire up while both men are down, and Jericho checks his nose. Shibata crawls, but Jericho pulls Hook aside?! Jericho is mad with Hook about Shibata but Hook says not to worry about that, worry about the match! Lee sneaks up on Shibata, but Shibata switches with Lee! Lee throws elbows, runs, but Shibata dodges the boot to SLEEPER!
Lee flails, Ogogo distracts the ref so Shane can get in and ROCK Shibata! The fans boo as now Lee gives Shibata THE FANG! Cover, STP WIN!!
Winners: Shane Taylor Promotions, by pinfall
Jericho and Hook now realize their argument just cost them the match! Shane Taylor Promotions gets one of their biggest wins yet, and now Hook is mad with Jericho. Hook tells Jericho to just go, he’s why Shibata’s down and out. Jericho says okay, and he exits the ring. Hook helps Shibata up, did Jericho just ruin the mentor-student relationship?
Backstage interview with Dustin Rhodes.
Renee is with The Natural and says despite Swerve attacking Joe, Joe is still able to compete tonight. This title eliminator is so important to Dustin because it could mean a future world championship match. Does Swerve attacking Joe change Dustin’s strategy at all? Absolutely not. We know what’s on the line here. We all heard Dustin when he said he has nothing to lose and everything to gain. Right now, Dustin believes the time for talk is over! We’re in Charleston, West Virginia, The Nature is in the house and here for business, babeh! If you can’t get down with that, he doesn’t know what to tell ya!
But he does know this, Charleston! Grit, work ethic, passion and glory! That is what he does every single week in and out, and tonight will be no different. Dustin is all fired up, will he have the biggest win of his AEW career in tonight’s main event?

The NEW Elite stands tall over Pac and FTR, is nothing going to stop them from being the Golden Elite?
Bullet Club Gold speaks.
The ROH World Six Man Tag Team Champions are backstage, admiring Jay White’s new jacket with the paint drip pattern. White says hello to the Charleston Gold Members, and says the wrestling world is once again abuzz about The Bang Bang Gang. Let’s get a recap of what they’ve been up to. Number one: they crushed Darby Allin’s dreams, along with his ankle. Number two: they successfully defended the ROH Six Man Championships at Supercard of Honor. Number three and most important: the world witnessed Switchblade put the biggest, baddest beating on Billy Gunn you ever did see!
White loved it so much, he wants to do it again on Rampage! But not against Billy, no, Billy wouldn’t survive that. But there’s always someone else. How about they go find someone, line them up and White knocks it out of the park. If you ain’t done with that, they’ve got two words for ya: Guns Up! But then who will King Switch use as a tune-up for taking on the rest of The Acclaimed?
Renee Paquette is back on stage.
She thanks Charleston for being here, and welcomes them in joining her. Per the request of the AEW Women’s World Champion, tonight is a Charleston Championship Champagne Toast! April 21st, the title is on the line “against a woman who had to vacate that very title two years ago.” Please welcome first, Thunder Rosa! The fans cheer La Mera Mera as she makes her way out here and hugs Renee. And now, please welcome the Timeless Champion, Toni Storm! The fans also cheer as AEW’s leading lady makes her way out, Luther by her side. Renee thanks Toni for putting this toast together. She requested this time so the floor is hers.
What kind of champagne did they get? Everyone gets a glass, and Renee says Toni may toast away. Toni holds up her glass, to SPLASH Rosa in the face! Toni then DECKS Rosa, rains down fists, but Rosa kicks her away! Rosa sputters, gets up, but Toni CLOBBERS her with the silver platter! Toni smears Rosa’s face paint, then swings the terrible towel! But Deonna Purrazzo rushes out here! Luther stands in her way, so Deonna just checks on Rosa. Rosa lashes out, not knowing who is who. Deonna says fine, F her. Deonna storms off, Rosa tries to stand, but the refs have to help Rosa to the back. And now, Toni’s protege comes out for her match!
Toni is confused at first, then remembers the schedule. Toni takes a quick swig of bubbly, then gives Mariah a kiss good luck! Mariah is all fired up, but will champagne kisses truly become caviar dreams? Or will Anna Jay remind us that she’s the Star of the Show?

Backstage interview with Mercedes Mone.
Alex Marvez sits down with The CEO, and thanks her for taking this time. He asks about last week, when she said she wanted to face whoever is TBS Champion come Double or Nothing. Mone says yes, Double or Nothing! Five years ago, history was made when AEW had its first ever PPV in Las Vegas. Mone is a history maker, gamechanger, and she decided to make history yet again when she staked her claim to go to Vegas and become TBS Champion. Because money changes everything. Now, Dynasty is on the way, where Julia Hart defends that title against Willow Nightingale. How does Mone see that match?
She can’t wait to watch! She can’t wait to see those two throw down because they are the very best. And Julia has been one hell of a champion. She’s so mysterious, so unpredictable, you can’t predict the games that she will play. And Julia may have Willow’s number, but Willow on the other hand… Willow is a force to be reckoned with. Mone has been in the ring with Willow, and Willow is dangerous. Marvez wants her to elaborate on that. Mone says it is hard to talk about, because that was the hardest moment in her career. Almost one year ago, Mone faced Willow for the NJPW Strong Women’s Championship.
Not only did Mone lose that match, but she got injured in that match. Not only did she get injured in that match, she lost out on being the first woman to hold the NJPW Strong Women’s title. And if you know anything about Mone, she hates to lose. But being The CEO of AEW, she always has a plan and a mission. She can’t wait for Double or Nothing. Then who would she rather face? Julia Hart? Or Willow Nightingale? Mone thinks about it, but then the lights go out! Someone is attacking Mone in the dark! And when the lights come up, we only see Mone down! Was that Julia trying to make sure Mone doesn’t make it to Vegas? Skye Blue doing Julia’s dirty work? Or…
AEW World Championship Title Eliminator: Samoa Joe VS Dustin Rhodes!
Well, let’s try this again. The One True King respects The Natural’s legacy, but not so far as to give him an outright title opportunity. And this time, Joe brings the steel chain he snatched from Swerve as extra security! Will Joe make Dustin an example to what Swerve’s gonna get at Dynasty? Or will all Rhodes lead to gold?

Dustin fires shots in return! The two brawl, Dustin ROCKS Joe then runs, but into an atomic drop! Dynamite returns to single picture as Joe BOOTS Dustin down! Then Joe SENTONS on top! Cover, TWO!!
Dustin is still in this, his face completely red from face paint and crimson mask. The fans rally and duel, and Dustin reaches up! Joe taunts Dustin, and Dustin rises! Joe CLUBS Dustin, ROCKS him, then CHOPS! Dustin stays up, Joe runs, but Dustin hits the SNAP POWERSLAM! The fans fire up while both men are down! A standing count starts, but Dustin pounds the mat. The fans are thunderous all the same as Dustin gets Joe back up. But Joe wrenches out! Dustin blocks a shot to ROCK Joe! Dustin runs in, but into the URENAGE! Joe grabs Swerve’s chain! Now the ref tells Joe not to do it, he’ll hand Dustin the win with that! The ref takes the chain, but Joe has the belt! BELT SHOT!!! The fans boo as Joe gets away with one! Cover, Joe wins!
Winner: Samoa Joe, by pinfall (denies Dustin Rhodes a title opportunity)
Joe steals one from Dustin, but then he puts on the COQUINA CLUTCH!! But wait, here comes a HOUSE CALL!! Swerve saves Dustin but this is about taking out Joe! Swerve gets his steel chain back, and he wraps it around his fist! FULL METAL KNUCKLE!! Joe goes down, dazed, but he’s able to get away before Swerve LASHES him! Security and even wrestlers rush out here to stop this from getting worse! Prince Nana picks up the belt and holds it out to Swerve. Will this be the scene in two weeks? Will Swerve finally establish his Dynasty?
My Thoughts:
A great Dynamite here, but uh… Well, a lot of this got dragged down by that segment. I had a feeling The Bucks would do their best to work-shoot-shoehorn Brawl In into why they lost to FTR last year, given how they’re having the rematch at Dynasty. And naturally, if The Bucks were the ones bringing it up, FTR take the Face position, which is the real position that ALL of AEW should’ve thought to take, which is get past the thing and focus on being AEW. And even if they all insisted on using Brawl In for this, why show the footage? It only helps CM Punk’s side of the argument of this, it didn’t change anything for anyone other than maybe Chris Hero because he was clearly one of the more level heads in that situation.
If you took out this Brawl In work-shoot nonsense, this was a strong episode going towards Dynasty, and we still got a good build from Bucks and FTR anyway. Okada of course wins his match tonight, but also calls out Pac and gets the Continental title match made for Dynasty. Then good attack from The Bucks on Pac, good brawl with Okada & Bucks against Pac and FTR, that could be a great Six Man Tag on the way to Dynasty. That match will surely lend to the math, but maybe something wonky needs to happen to keep everyone even going into Dynasty because it would be way too hard to choose who takes the fall.
Great misdirect with the world title eliminator opening only for Swerve to jump in and mess it up. Then awesome TNT Championship match from Edge and Penta. Naturally, Edge won but great tie-in with the House of Black story. Willow of course helped Edge out and we’re going to get a great Mixed Tag Match. Good promo with Mark & Eddie, too, and I liked Stokely’s bit of trying to make amends with Eddie. Also, incredibly clever move for Mone to be attacked completely in the dark, so that we have no idea who really did it. They could totally pull a twist where it was Willow, her mind finally giving into the black mist that she keeps getting hit by.
As such, Julia has a good promo calling out the darkness within Willow, maybe Willow starts to tease turning Heel during the match at Dynasty to set us up for her “It was ME, Mone! It was me all along!” on the way to Double or Nothing. Also great stuff with the champagne toast being a trap to attack Rosa and then also drive another wedge between Rosa and Deonna. Mariah VS Anna was a great match, and just as I was hoping, Mina showed up to keep the reunion going. A bit more kissy kissy than I expected, but perhaps all the more reason for Storm and Mina to have beef with each other, Mariah in the middle and having to choose if she’s Storm’s protege or Mina’s partner.
Really good Six Man Tag, and really good move for Jericho to be why his team loses. The promo showed his ego getting the better of him, and this is definitely going to get to the point where Hook being upset with Jericho makes Jericho upset with Hook and those two fight over the FTW Championship. Really good promo from Bullet Club Gold, and White is of course going to beat Sydal, but I would think Acclaimed go after him as payback for how things went the last week. And then great main event from Joe VS Dustin, Dustin getting a great showing even though we all knew he was losing. And Swerve getting a shot on Joe evens things out from the contract signing, meaning the go-home next week will surely go Joe’s way.
My Score: 8.4/10
