Wes Lee speaks.

“I was determined to add more to truly solidify my legacy as the greatest North American Champion in NXT history. But in the process, I spread myself too thin, and it came at a cost.” December of 2023, Wes had to tell the fans that he was in pain just standing there. He needed surgery and time. He had three ruptured disks, affecting two different nerves, causing that pain and muscle atrophy. It took a three hour surgery, affecting his L3, L4 and L5 disks. He should’ve heeded the warnings before. He flew too close to the sun, crashed and burned, but has now risen from the ashes. The King of the Wes Side has returned to NXT, and it is time to get back to work!

The roster watches that video.

They applaud as Wes heads for gorilla position, and says he missed this. “It feels good to be home. I’ve got one goal in mind, though.” Wes is ready, will this phoenix soar to those same heights as before? Or maybe even higher?

The NXT Tag Division talks last week.

Hank ‘n’ Tank, as well as Tyriek & Tyson, tell Axiom & Nathan Frazer that it was phenomenal! Their title defense shows why they are the champs. These other teams are just getting going, but seeing Axiom & Frazer out there has motivated them to one day be champions. But then No Quarter Catch Crew walks in and Damon Kemp can’t believe what he’s hearing. Ty & Ty just got here, and they already have championship aspirations? How’s that supposed to work out? Charlie Dempsey says it is funny, considering Ty & Ty lost their debut match. Tyson has them hold on. Ain’t no shame to losing to the Good Brothers. Those guys are vets.

But see, the scary thing is, Ty & Ty are only gonna get better, and more comfortable. Well, a bit of advice: you step into the ring with the NQCC, you don’t feel comfort, just pain. Well, they ain’t afraid of pain. They can take it, and dish it out. Things get heated, Hank ‘n’ Tank keep thing from turning into a fight, and these teams all head out. Will the NQCC be the ones watching out for the #TYgers on the hunt? Meanwhile, the Good Brothers do walk in, and Luke Gallows says wowski! Check this pair little good brothers right here. Karl Anderson says yes, they handled business, got rid of the Raw & SmackDown teams. If that’s not just Too Sweet, then he doesn’t know what is.

Gallows & Anderson offer the Too Sweet, Frazer & Axiom say they’re good. The champs head out, and Gallows says why those two “brothers” are gonna lose. No look Too Sweet, but will Big LG & The Machine Gun be the ones to take them down?

Shayna Baszler w/ Lola Vice VS Karmen Petrovic w/ Natalya!

The Queen of Spades was certainly the ace up the sleeve of #MiamiVice, as she used the #CanadianConnection against the Queen of Harts! Will Karmen get vengeance with her own two hands? Or will Shayna still have the upper hand this close to Battleground: Las Vegas?

NXT returns and Karmen makes her entrance, sword on her shoulder and Natty by her side. The bell rings and the two circle. The fans rally but Shayna doesn’t sweat the real-life Beatrix Kiddo. Karmen almost gets her with a kick, though! Shayna uses ropes as a defense and Karmen backs off, then Shayna storms up to tie up collar ‘n’ elbow. Superstars in the Women’s Locker Room watch replay of last week.

Specifically, Fallon Henley losing her cool and turning on Thea Hail. Kelani Jordan still doesn’t understand why. If Fallon had a problem, she could’ve talked to someone about it. Seriously, what kind of friend does that? It took Kelani everything she had to not just smack Fallon during the combine. Fallon walks in and says if Kelani feels that way, why didn’t she? Because Kelani thought they were friends. Oh, see, that’s the problem. Fallon has spent her entire career helping friends. From here on out, Fallon Comes First. She doesn’t need friends to become the FIRST Women’s North American Champion. And for that, she just needs Ava to tell her she qualified.

Kelani says what happened to Fallon! The argument gets heated, the others step in the way, and clearly things are about to explode! Those combine results are coming up next, who has qualified for the golden opportunity?

The NXT Combine results are in!

20 women competed over Backlash weekend, all with one goal in mind: finish in the top 12, then win their way to the NXT Women’s North American Championship Ladder Match at Battleground! Nine grueling events tested four sections: speed; power; strength; and conditioning. We get some highlights here, such as in the 10-yard sled push, the 10-yard sprint, and the in-ring shuttle drill. After all, hitting ropes takes speed and precision. Our early leaders were Thea Hail and Kelani Jordan. We’ll have more highlights for the Power section later tonight.

No Quarter Catch Crew VS Tyriek Igwe & Tyson Dupont!

The confrontation from earlier has now been turned into a match, player! Who will #HollaHolla at a higher place in the NXT Tag Division rankings?

For that matter, the #CatchClause is in effect, so who is stepping up? It’s Myles Borne & Charlie Dempsey, but uh… Where’s the ref? The announcement is given that the ref scheduled for this match is “unavailable.” Alicia Taylor glances over at Luca Crusifino and some of Tony D’Angelo’s cousins… But now, the special guest referee for this match will be… CHANNING LORENZO! Stacks is getting in on this? Did The Don work out some kind of deal to stick it to the NQCC? Stacks shows off his nice new referee shirt, and he tells everybody to sort it out. Myles starts against Tyriek, the bell rings, and the match is on!

Myles and Tyriek tie up, Tyriek puts Myles in a corner, but Myles turns it around. Stacks counts the ropebreak, and counts real fast! Myles gets mad, but Tyriek get shim in a headlock! Tyson endures, the fans rally, and Stacks checks on Tyson. Tyson fights up and out of the hold, and back drops free! Hot tag to Tyriek! Tyriek rallies on NQCC with LARIATS and BOOTS! DROPKICK for Myles, whip for Dempsey! Dempsey reverses but Tyriek ducks ‘n’ dodges! DOUBLE LARIAT takes out the NQCC! Tyriek fires up, the fans are with him, and he hauls Dempsey up! Scoop and POWERSLAM! Cover, Myles breaks it in time!

Myles argues the count again but Tyson DECKS him! Tyson throws Myles out, but Myles drags Tyson out of the ring! Dempsey ducks a boot, GERMAN SUPLEX! NQCC is furious over the shenanigans, but The Don abides! Is this going to force the issue and make NQCC pay up?

Arianna Grace and Gigi Dolin are backstage with Chelsea Green.

The Pageant Queen says O M Goodness, she cannot describe how fabulous it is to have Chelsea here. Chelsea says this is a dream come true! The thought, the possibility, of Chelsea becoming the NEW NXT Women’s Champion warms Arianna’s heart! Chelsea says exactly. She has been through so many nasty locker rooms and trashy cities, having dealt with Awful Adam and Sir Nicholas the Prickliest. Chelsea is so happy to have found someone almost as perfect as her, and she’s a beauty pageant queen to boot! Do go on, she won’t stop you. The two are all giggly, but Arianna says in all seriousness, Chelsea has to win that title.

Chelsea says she will. For every little girl out there! For every future pageant princess! For the entire locker room! And herself. And for “Giorgina” as they guide her along her journey. Wait, “they?” Arianna says she must go, she has a “Michin problem” to deal with. But Arianna will be back victorious. Bye~! Arianna heads out and Gigi says she cannot take this! She is DONE! Is Gigi gonna take this up with management a la the Hot Mess?

Backstage interview with Roxanne Perez.

Kelly Kincaid is with The Prodigy as she points out tonight’s title defense against Chelsea Green. In a match Ava just threw together, Roxie points out. But this isn’t about Ava, and it isn’t even about Chelsea. Tonight is about Roxie! When you’re the face of the brand, when you’re a TWO-TIME NXT Women’s Champion, and when you’re the main event, there’s a name for that: The Prodigy. And no one likes Chelsea on Raw, or on SmackDown, and Roxie sure doesn’t like Chelsea here. This is NXT. Roxie sent Tatum and Lyra packing, and she’ll do the same to Chelsea. Then whoever is after that, you’ll just hear the same thing: #AndStill.

Roxie is confident, but also clinging to her title. Is Roxie’s body language betraying her poker face this close to Battleground in Vegas?

Mia Yim VS Arianna Grace!

The Head Baddie in Charge is back because she wants to be part of that historic Women’s North American Championship match! The combine results are still being worked out, but will a win go a long way in earning a spot?

NXT returns and Arianna makes her entrance. The bell rings and the fans rally for Mia. Arianna says violence is NOT the answer! But then Mia takes that accusing finger and bends it! Mia asks what was that? Arianna stomps a foot, but then Mia stomps a foot back! Then stomps the other foot! Then she ROCKS Arianna in a corner! And ROUNDHOUSES her down! Then DROPKICKS her! Arianna flounders, Mia runs to PENALTY KICK! Arianna flounders, Mia dusts her shoes off, then runs up. Arianna sends her into ropes! Mia staggers, Arianna ELBOWS her in a corner! The fans fire up while Mia shakes her arm out. Arianna flounders, stands up, but Mia CLOBBERS her!

Mia YAKUZA KICKS, then SHOTGUNS Arianna down! Arianna goes to a corner, the fans fire up for Mia, and Mia runs up to BOOT! Mia brings Arianna around to bump off buckles, then she goes corner to corner again. But Arianna puts her on the apron! Mia RAMS into Arianna, slingshots up and over to sunset flip, but Arianna sit son it! She holds ropes! The ref sees that and says no good! Mia sunset flips, TWO!! Arianna is upset with the ref, but Mia waistlocks to GERMAN SUPLEX! Arianna staggers up, into EAT DA FEET! Cover, Mia wins!

Winner: Mia Yim, by pinfall

That Michin problem was more than Arianna count handle! Will all of NXT have that same “problem” should Mia get into the ladder match?

Thea Hail talks with Ridge Holland.

She thanks him for checking up on her last week. He says don’t worry, it’s been a rough couple of weeks for her. And trust him, he knows that feeling. Anger, frustration, it all builds up. And for Fallon to- Yes! It’s so nice to talk with someone who knows what she’s feeling! Mr. Chase has tried to calm her down, but no one thinks she makes sense just because of how young she is. Ridge says Thea makes a lot of sense. Oh, good. And Ridge has a daughter that reminds him of her. When she grows up, he hopes she’ll have half the passion Thea does. Thanks! Chase, Duke & Riley walk in, they high-five her and congratulate her on that big revenge win over Jacy Jayne.

Thanks! Thea was just talking with Ridge about it. He’s so easy to talk to! But then in walks Lexis King, saying, “Blah blah blah blah blah. What is this? Some sort of terrible Lifetime movie?” Lexis tells them that the business isn’t for everyone. If Ridge is trying to scrape wins together, why is he talking to these losers? Thea tells Lexis to shut up and stop! Lexis then brings up Ridge’s daughter, and Ridge stands up. Ridge tells Lexis to step off. Duke steps in and tells Lexis that he is nothing more than a pompous, narcissistic, egotistical haircut. He has no right talking to anyone that way. Oh, big Dookie saving the day! Typical Chase U white knight.

But Lexis tells Duke that he just pissed off the King. Lexis storms off, Thea says that’s so~ terrifying. Mr. Chase tells Ridge that at Chase U, they’ve always got each other’s back. Will Yorkshire Grit find some new friends with the black ‘n’ red? Will The Drama King look to make them all bow before him?

It’s an all new Supernova Sessions!

Noam Dar says, “Hello, hello, hello! Hear me now! Welcome to another edition of Supernova Sessions live in the U S of AAAA~!” Dar then says the Oxford dictionary defines the word “Trick” as a skillful act or scheme designed to outwit someone. Well, with that said, ladies and gentlemen, please welcome tonight’s guest- Lash says SKRR SKRR, this is a very special guest. Ooh~! Dar says fine, the very special guest, THE NXT Champion, Trick Williams. Jakara doesn’t get what’s with Lash but Lash says you show the champ respect! The fans chant “WHOOP DAT TRICK!” as Trick Willy makes his way to the ring.

Trick gets the mic to say “WHOOOOO~ OOH~!” Dar has everyone settle down and take their seats. Meta Four squish in on the couch while Trick gets the armchair. Dar says things are going well for Trick. It must be nice to be Trick. Oro says yes, very nice. Trick says talk yo’ talk. Then on that point, they’ve got a special video package to show Trick’s historic rise. Watch! From WWE HQ in Stamford, Connecticut, Trick’s special visit to be part of The Bump and see his poster. Trick relates a story from just under a year ago: HBK told him, many people ask for the ball but they’re not ready for the ball and have to be on the bench. It’s good to have people like HBK in your corner.

There are people who really do want to see others succeed, and it is crazy to be in this new era. Trick vows to put the brand on his back, The #TrickEra begins, that’s all it is, that’s all it’s gonna be. Tell your friends ’bout it! The fans like that video, as does Trick. Let’s talk about it! Yes, of course! That’s the whole point! They’re literally on a talk show! Lash tells Dar to stop being rude. Dar and Oro do the secret handshake but Trick says Oro’s laughing too hard. He isn’t here for games, he is here for one reason and one reason only: that manila envelope! Let’s open it up and get to it! Dar tells Trick to calm down, this is Dar’s show.

The fans chant, “Who’s The Daddy?” and Dar says stop, this is his show! But Lash, please, exhibit A. Lash says okay, it is finally time to reveal “the truth.” Lash opens the envelope slowly but Jakara tells her to snap out of it already. Lash says okay, hold on, she’s gonna open it! The picture is also put on the tron. Dar’s foot is under the ropes when Trick pinned him! Dar wants us all to understand, Trick’s false victory is what gave him the momentum to go on and slay The Mad Dragon to become the new NXT Champion. Fans point out Dar still lost, but Dar says this is proof that everything Trick has was built on a lie!

Dar wants Trick to know he is nothing but a no good trick! And Dar is going to expose him! Dar says Trick’s a con man! Trick stands up to get in Dar’s face. Is that all? Really? They brought him out for a picture? Oro explains that Dar didn’t really lose! Trick’s reign is a fraud! Trick asks what is wrong with Oro. Does he not speak good English? He eatin’ dog food or something? Does Trick need to smack him all the way back to “The Motherland?” Trick question! Now, Dar, if you wanted a match, all you had to do was ask. Trick’s got no problems smacking that man bun off his head! Just say the word.

Dar says Trick’s got jokes, but he’s still not getting the reality! Trick says he isn’t here to play games. Trick ain’t with that! Lash actin’ like this is Maury! By the way, Trick AIN’T the daddy! OHH~! Dar asks what’s that supposed to mean! Lash plays innocent, but Trick asks if Lash wants to tell him, or if he should. Wait, whoa, what?! Timeout! Lash…! Lash is flustered, and says “Babe! I MEAN-” UH OH! UH OH! Lash tells Trick this isn’t the time or the place! Trick says yes it is! Check it, there’s nothing to be scared about. This is about them right now. Just tell the people that Lash calls him… “Trick Willy Wonka.” OH~!

Lash says she can’t do this, but Trick holds her close. Lash says no, this isn’t the time or the place. But then Dar SPINNING ELBOWS Trick down!! The fans boo as Supernova strikes first! Lash asks what was that for, but Dar glares at her like she betrayed him. Dar takes the belt off Trick, looks it over with a smile, and holds it up. The fun and games really are over, but who wins when these two play for keeps?

More of the NXT Women’s Combine results are in!

The Power rounds were all about the Vertical Jump, the Broad Jump, and the Rotational Punch, all the test the explosive power in the legs, as well as balance and precision. And needless to say, everyone packs a punch! But in the end, Mia Yim blew everyone away, showing why she’s in The OC. But another woman dominated overall, and it was Jaida Parker! Make it or break it was coming, we’ll get the Strength portion later tonight.

Someone’s snoozing.

But surely, they’ll wake up soon. Will they make NXT feel comfy again?

Karmen and Natty regroup backstage.

Karmen apologizes for how things went down the last two weeks. Natty’s taken her under her wing, but Karmen’s just letting her down! Natty says don’t get down about that. Whether you’ve been here 17 years or just one, this is part of the process. It’s about finding your edge. Wait, what? Well, in karate, it’s self-defense. But in wrestling, it’s offense. It’s about being the aggressor. A prospect walks by and tells Natty that her NXT Underground match was sick! She thanks him for that, and they move on. Okay, right, aggressor. Another prospect tells Karmen not to worry about her loss. In the end, she’s still a smoke show!

Karmen smiles at the guy, then ROUNDHOUSES him down! Natty says now she gets it. More of that. Will Karmen sharpen that edge so that she can finally carve a path to the top?

Kelani Jordan VS Fallon Henley

We’ve been seeing how everyone stacks up in the combine, but this is about bringing it in the ring. Will the Gym Princess prove she’s worthy of that golden opportunity? Or will The Cowgirl make herself into an outlaw if it means getting what she wants?

NXT returns and Fallon makes her entrance. The fans boo but she just brushes that off. The bell rings and the two circle. They tie up, go around, and Fallon puts Kelani in a corner. Fallon powers up, puts Kelani in ropes, then lets off, to HOTSHOT Kelani! Kelani sputters while fans boo but Fallon slides to HAYMAKER!

Fallon shakes her hand out, tells fans that she already said, #FallonComesFirst! The Cowgirl is certainly on top right now as NXT goes to break.

NXT returns and Fallon has Kelani on the ropes quite literally. Fallon KICKS her around, then brings Kelani to snapmare and cover, TWO! Fallon is frustrated but she drags Kelani around. Kelani kicks in return, whips, and runs in to go up! MONKEY FLIP! Fallon flounders away, Kelani runs up, but into an ALLEY OOP onto the bare buckle!!

Fallon runs to SHINING WIZARD! Cover, Fallon wins!

Winner: Fallon Henley, by pinfall

Fallon shows off her new edge as she plays by her own rules! Will this outlaw practically steal that NXT Women’s North American Championship?

No Quarter Catch Crew regroups backstage.

Dempsey snarls as he holds up the Heritage Cup. He tells Tony D, if he wants the match so bad, then fine! Tony gets what he wants, but he will regret it. Tony may be The Don, but when it comes to the cup, the NQCC has all the power! And that power lies within The Catch Clause. Study up all you want, Tony, it means nothing! The clause says it could be Dempsey, it could be Kemp, or it could be Kemp. Find out next week. How does it feel to hold none of the power?

The Women’s Combine continues!

The Strength round would be a make or break round, as the Overhead Medicine Ball Throw tested overall explosive strength output. This was dominated by none other than Lash Legend! She showed up, showed out, and threw that ball 37 inches! Wren Sinclair was a dark horse surprise in this aspect, could she make some ground? Then there was the Iso Mid Thigh Pull. Go after the bar as hard as you could for maximum output! Mia again impressed, but Izzi Dame got herself some major points.

And lastly, Conditioning! It was a gauntlet of various drills to test endurance and stamina! The Pitbull, Ivy Nile, proved she is levels above! After giving their all, which 12 made the cut for the qualifying matches? We find out, later tonight!

Backstage interview with Ava Raine.

Kelly Kincaid is with the NXT General Manager, and says after seeing the highlights, who made the Top 12? Ava says all 20 that competed were amazing, and showed why the WWE Women’s Division is untouchable. But to the point, the 12 names are right here! In order from first place to 12th, it’s: Sol Ruca! Thea Hail! Jaida Parker! Brinley Reece! Michin! Fallon Henley! Lash Legend! Ivy Nile! Izzi Dame! Kelani Jordan! Tatum Paxley! And… Wren Sinclair! Those qualifying matches start next week, who will then take fate into their own hands and head for Las Vegas?

Lexis King VS Duke Hudson w/ Chase U!

The Drama King talked trash on “Dookie” and the whole Chase U family, but will he have to eat those words? Or can he take down the Chase U MVP and prove he is worthy of gold?

Lexis kicks at Duke, sends him away, but Duke just gets mad!

Duke storms up, but Lexis YANKS him into ropes! Then Lexis CLUBS Duke, has him in a corner, and snapmares Duke for an elbow drop! And another! And then a stomp! Lexis steps on Duke’s face, covers, TWO! Lexis brings Duke around, but Duke shoves him back. Lexis CHOPS, CHOPS and digs his boots in! The ref counts, Lexis lets off at 4, and Duke staggers away. NXT Media catches up with The Meta Four.

They wanna ask what happened out there, and Dar says Trick got his lights put out, duh! Then where’s Lash? Pfft, next question. They head out, but then Je’Von Evans walks over. He says it’s all good, but he didn’t like how they played his boy, Trick Willy. Oro tells Evans to move but Evans tells Oro to chill. Evans isn’t trying to get into their business- Dar says he couldn’t if he tried! What’s the point of this? Evans gets heated, as does Oro, but Dar and Jakara have Oro stand down. Dar says he gets it. Evans is the shiny new toy around here. But there is no quicker way to stunt your growth than to step to Supernova 11. Especially right now.

And if you don’t believe him, go as Trick, when he wakes up. Check please, buh-bye. The Meta Three head out, but will Evans find a way to put them in their place?

Jazmyn Nyx speaks.

“Thea Hail comes off as ‘that girl next door,’ right? Filled with all that spunk and energy. Ugh. Ultimate underdog who wants everyone to be her friend. But last week, Thea Hail showed the entire world exactly who she is: an animal with no remorse! She shattered my best friend, Jacy Jayne’s nose. Where’s the outrage from the NXT brass? My timeline’s blowing up from all my followers! Thea Hair couldn’t beat Jacy Jayne straight up, so Ava, where is the suspension? If it were up to me, Thea would no longer be in NXT. Right now, Jacy’s recovering from her surgery.

“And Jacy, as your best friend, I want to let you know that the entire WWE Universe sends their best wishes for a speedy recovery. Because you didn’t deserve this. And I will do everything in my power to take care of that little Thea Hail for committing such a heinous crime!” Jazmyn calms down, but will she become the new toxic element in NXT?

Chase U regroups backstage.

Thea is upset, Lexis is such a worm and he dares call Thea a loser?! Thea calms down, Ridge hurries over to apologize. He knows they’re mad, they have every right to be, but every time he sees Thea, he can’t help but see his little girl. He got involved and- Duke stops Ridge there. They know it was Lexis getting to them all. Ridge pays for dinner, they’ll call it even. Done! Riley brings up Ridge still cost Duke a match. Ridge says he just apologized, man. Yeah but… A leopard never changes its spots. Ridge sighs, and says if he has to earn their trust and respect, he will. Andre Chase says one day at a time.

Riley is still upset Ridge cost Duke tonight, but the others are willing to forgive. Will Ridge finally get a fair shake from the roster? Or is that just too hard a mountain to climb?

HBK reaches out to another wild rivalry in the world today.

Shawn Michaels tweeted out to Kendrick Lamar and Drake that if they wanna settle things once and for all, they are formally invited down to NXT! HBK will even mediate! Will NXT help squash the beef?

The NXT North American Championship Qualifiers have been set!

In the first week of competition, the number one seed, Sol Ruca, takes on the nine seed, Izzi Dame! And then, it’s the seven VS the eight as Lash Legend takes on Ivy Nile! Who grab up the first two spots in the ladder match for Battleground?

Winner: Roxanne Perez, by pinfall (still NXT Women’s Champion)

Not quite Pop Rox but it was still just as good for The Prodigy! Will nothing stop her from dominating the NXT Women’s Division?

Someone is getting a beating in the parking lot!

Tony D’Angelo & Stacks are mugging Kemp and Myles to get them in the trunk! The Don shouts at the camera, “You think you’re in control, Charlie?! You think you’re in control!? How ’bout that Catch Clause now, Sir Charles!?” The D’Angelo Family hurries away, Kemp and Borne their hostages! And just as Dempsey walks out from the arena! He looks around for his guys, will he have to check the tape to see what just happened?

My Thoughts:

A great NXT right here. We didn’t get as much of the combine as I thought but I suppose that would’ve been a lot to share. Great choice of twelve, and we’ve already got good matches to start us off. Sol should definitely beat Izzi, and I would think Lash beats Ivy since Ivy is on Raw. No Lola Vice or Karmen Petrovic in the field but that’s okay, they clearly have more in their own feud to give. Karmen VS Shayna was a good match, but of course Shayna won out. And good promo after where Natty wants Karmen to change her game plan, and Karmen starts by kicking the horny dude bro in the head.

Really good match from Kelani and Fallon here as their friendship ends and Fallon goes fully Heel. They’re both in the top 12, I would think they are kept apart in the qualifiers so that they can both win and meet again in the ladder match. Funny little promo from Arianna and Chelsea with Gigi literally suck in the middle. Arianna of course loses to Mia so that Mia has momentum going into her own qualifier, and Gigi is definitely going to ask Ava to give her a rematch with Arianna so that Gigi can get out of this makeover deal. Mia will likely get a spot in the ladder match since they made a bigger deal about her returning to NXT.

Chelsea also losing after her little buddy buddy promo with Arianna was of course how things were gonna go. Roxie is that good as NXT Women’s Champion, and as I said last week, it has to be Giulia coming in from Stardom to make a big splash as an NXT star. Good promos from Chase U with Ridge Holland. Thea Hail is more accepting of Ridge’s input, but then Ridge messes things up for Duke against Lexis. Thea and Riley being on opposite ends of this issue, doesn’t look good for the relationship in their college romcom. At the same time, maybe Riley will be right all along, if Ridge ends up losing his cool and somehow joining Shawn Spears’ side after all. Honestly, I could see a Six Man Tag, Spears, Ridge & Lexis VS Chase U. That could also go a long way to getting a tag team out of the deal.

Great stuff in the NXT Tag Division tonight, too, such as the promo that set up Ty & Ty VS NQCC as well as Good Brothers still acting like they’re NXT 4 Life as they talk with Axiom & Frazer. Gallows & Anderson are definitely getting the tag title shot for Battleground with how the story is going. Ty & Ty had a great match with NQCC, mostly because Stacks was put in as the special guest ref. Great stuff with that story, especially with that abduction angle to end the night! Dempsey looking like lost and confused Travolta in Pulp Fiction, and now he has no choice but to defend the cup against Tony D. I still want Tony to win by knockout so that Dempsey’s technical skills are completely nullified.

Really good opening video package for Wes, and great match of Wes VS Briggs, even with Ivar being ringside and technically a factor. HHH Era seems to be an era of Triple Threats because clearly, Wes VS Briggs VS Ivar has to happen so that the winner (Wes) faces Oba at Battleground. And as I said last week, Wes can surely get past Briggs and Ivar, but something just tells me the North American title has moved past Wes. Wes will show that heart and determination, but he will likely lose, Oba continues on through the Summer as NAC. Wes can then move up to the top title scene.

Speaking of the top title, what an awesome Supernova Sessions. I figured the manila envelope secret was Dar pointing out some technicality, it’s basically the same thing with getting the Heritage Cup back from Tyler Bate and Nathan Frazer. But then what brilliant execution in revealing the Trick x Lash relationship as a way to motivate the title match even more. I also like the little bit where Je’Von gets in Meta Four’s way. Dar probably makes an example out of Je’Von in a tune-up match, but Trick might have an ally against the faction come title match time. As it stands, I would think Trick retains, but it will be an awesome match. And depending on how things go for Lash in the NXT Women’s North American Championship situation, she might not even be a factor to help Dar anyway. She might even go Team Trick so that we get an even 3v3.

My Score: 8.9/10

Best of the Super Juniors 31 A Block: Clark Connors VS Kosei Fujita!

100 Proof is going strong, but the Ichiban Young Punk isn’t feeling so mighty. Even so, Fujita could make a big leap up the block if he wins here. Will TMDK have a golden ticket to the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championships? Or will he have to drown his sorrows with No Chaser?

The bell rings and Connors runs right in! Fujita dodges, RANAS, and Connors tumbles out! The fans fire up and Fujita builds speed, but Connors steps aside. Connors CHOKES Fujita with it, then throws it at a Young Lion. Connors then storms down the aisle, comes back for Fujita, and tells fans to shut up with the booing. Connors stands Fujita up and fans move aside! Connors BOWLS Fujita into the chairs! Strike! The fans boo, Connors tells them off but the fans tell him off back. Connors says no one boos him! Nobody! The count reaches 10 of 20, then 13. Connors chuckles as Fujita crawls, but then Connors shoves a Young Lion into Fujita! Connors leaves Fujita behind and we’re at 17! 18! Fujita slides in at 19! Connors is mad at the ref for the slow count! The ref defends his count was fair. Connors tells fans off, has a cocky cover on Fujita, but the ref refuses to count. But Connors drags him back! Fujita claws at the mat, powers up and has the ROPEBREAK! Connors lets go in frustration, The Sniper he is not. But Connors stomps Fujita around and drags him up. Connors reels Fujita in and calls his shot!

Connors fights the lift, throws an elbow, but Fujita CLUBS him back! Fujita runs, but Connors goes the other way! JEEP FLIPPER!! The fans boo but Connors reloads in the corner! Connors got cocky and now he pays for it! How will he explain this one to Bullet Club? As for Fujita, The Mighty Don’t Kneel, but will they be aiming for those tag titles after this tournament?

Best of the Super Juniors 31 B Block: Dragon Dia VS “Drilla” Dan Moloney!

The Infinity Carat Diamond isn’t shining quite as bright as he’d hope being the bottom of this block. However, 44 Caliber hasn’t quite hit the mark, either. Will Dia be unbreakable even now? Or will he start to crack under the pressure?

The bell rings and the two stare down. The fans rally for Dia and the two circle. They tie up, and Drilla shoves Dia down! Drilla laughs and mockingly apologizes. Flip over, and Canadian Rack! DRILLA KILLA!! Cover, Drilla wins!!!

Winner: “Drilla” Moloney, by pinfall (gains 2 points; Dia earns 0)

Perhaps Drilla learned from watching Connors fail that you don’t show mercy, you get the job done! Will 44 Caliber continue to go for the kill until he’s the Best of the Super Juniors? As for Dia, he is still at the bottom, is he about to break?

Best of the Super Juniors 31 A Block: HAYATA VS Yoshinobu Kanemaru!

The Silence of Darkness and the Heel Master are near the back of the pack, both hoping to claw their way up. Will the GHC National Champion make quite the impact in the fourth round? Or will Kanemaru make things a bit hazy with his whiskey?

Sho hurries out after Hiromu so Hiromu leads him on a high speed chase through the crowd! Sho as the corrupt cop chases the noble hero criminal, all to give the Young Lion more time to find that key! The ring count starts, Hiromu stays away since his hands are still bound. But we’re past 10 of 20, Hiromu has to risk it! Hiromu watches Sho closely, then slides in. But Sho kicks low and CLUBS Hiromu down! Sho drags Hiromu up, THROWS him back out, and then goes out after him. Sho grabs his title belt, takes aim, but Red Shoes reprimands. Sho throws the belt aside, goes looking for a chair, but the key is here!

Sho SMACKS Hiromu again! Sho puts Hiromu in, but wait, was that not the right key? The Young Lions have to go looking again! Sho scoops and SLAMS Hiromu! Sho then gets the legs, and he turns Hiromu for the BOSTON CRAB! Sho wants to humiliate Hiromu with a Young Lion level hold! Hiromu endures, fights forward, but Sho drags him back! Sho sits deep on the hold, but Hiromu endures! The Young Lions return, still no luck!! The fans can’t believe it, but the Young Lions search a third time! Hiromu still fights to the ROPEBREAK! Sho lets go but he’s having fun messing with Hiromu now. Sho taunts the fans but they boo.

Sho kicks Hiromu around, taunts him, but Hiromu CLUBS him! Sho says that’s not fair, he used the cuffs as weapons! Red Shoes says Sho’s the one who gave Hiromu the cuffs! Sho avoids Hiromu but Hiromu CLUBS him again! Red Shoes ignores what’s going on, and the fans cheer that justice! Sho CLAWS Hiromu’s eyes, then runs, but Hiromu blows past him to RANA! The fans fire up because Hiromu can still use his legs! Sho bails out, Hiromu has a reprieve, and referee Kevin Sato is here with the key! So Sho gets in his way! Rede Shoes reprimands but Hiromu kicks, KICKS and whips. Sho reverses, Hiromu stops himself and BOOTS back! Then HANGING HEADSCISSORS! Sho grabs at Red Shoes, and YUJIRO is here! Tokyo Pimp attacks Hiromu and drags him down! REVERSE DDT to the floor! Yujiro puts Hiromu in for Sho, Sho drags Hiromu to a cover, but Red Shoes refuses because of how Sho mistreated him! Sho is furious but Yujiro gets on the apron to argue with him. Sho gets the Torture Tool! Sho aims, swings, but Hiromu ducks! Hiromu snatches the wrench, then throws it back to frame Sho! The fans cheer and Sho defends his innocence on this specific moment!

Red Shoes still confiscates the wrench, Hiromu runs, but then Red Shoes is used as a shield! LOW BLOW!! And then Hiromu is shoved into Red Shoes! Sho and Yujiro then stomp away on Hiromu! The fans boo but this is the House of Torture for you. They double whip Hiromu, then Yujiro BOOTS! Sho runs up to clothesline! Sho snapmares Hiromu then sets him up for the FALLING HEADBUTT LOW BLOW! Sho covers and Red Shoes is back to count, TWO!! Hiromu survives and the fans are thunderous! But Sho vows to end it now. The fans rally for “HI-RO-MU! HI-RO-MU!” but Sho stalks him. Sho brings Hiromu up and in, STRAITJACKET PILEDRIVER!! Cover, TWO?!?

The fans fire up and Sho is furious! Sho aims his bow and he drags Hiromu back up. Sho double pump handles, but Hiromu fights Shock Arrow! So Sho suplexes! Hiromu slips free to SUPERKICK! Sho wobbles, the fans rally up, and Hiromu grits his teeth. Sho flounders around, comes back, but Hiromu catches him into TRIANGLE D! Sho endures, pops free, and he BITES Hiromu’s thigh!! At least we hope that’s the thigh! Red Shoes reprimands, and Hiromu spits out the fabric from Hiromu’s shorts! Sho grabs Hiromu’s legs, holds him open, and even pushes Red Shoes aside! But Hiromu kicks Sho’s legs out first! And then TRIANGLE D!!

Sho flails inside the hold and the fans rally! Sho fights to stack Hiromu, then deadlifts him! POWERBOMB! But Hiromu holds on!! Sho flails, but he’s fading! Hiromu pulls on the arm as hard as he can! Red Shoes checks, Sho fights up and stacks Hiromu again! Sho deadlifts for a BUCKLE BOMB! Both men are down and the fans rally up again. Hiromu and Sho rise, Sho runs, but into a SUPERKICK! Hiromu runs, Sho ducks the lariat then runs, but into the HIROMU-CHAN BOMBER!! Hiromu roars and drags Sho up! Fireman’s carry, but Sho CLAWS eyes! Yujiro distracts Red Shoes, and Sho LOW- NO! Hiromu stops that to LOW BLOW Sho!!!

The fans cheer the poetic justice, and then Hiromu fireman’s carries Sho, to RAM him into Yujiro! Then VICTORY ROYALE!! Cover, TWO!! Sho survives but the fans fire up behind Hiromu again! Hiromu waits on Sho to rise, then runs in to HIROMU-CHAN BOMBER!! Hiromu isn’t done there, he hauls Sho up to OG TIMEBOMB!! Cover, Yujiro YANKS Red Shoes out!! Winner: Hiromu Takahashi, by pinfall (gains 2 points; Sho earns 0)

Justice, true justice, has been served! The villainous Murder Machine loses in the main event he tried to steal, will he finally learn that crime doesn’t pay?

As for Hiromu, he gets a mic and he tells Sho to hold on. Hiromu has to admit, Sho really is amazing. Hiromu ought to commend Sho. AS IF! Sho should apologize to the great people of Hachioji and to all of Japan, the stupid moron! The fans cheer that! And then apparently, Hiromu winning the main event also won him a year’s supply of original Hachioji ramen? And to present the certificate is the owner of SUPER ALPS, Nobuhisa Shiozawa. The fans cheer this great honor for both of them, especially for a Hachioji native like Hiromu. Wait, would Sho have still been given this had he won? Well, all’s well that ends well.

Hiromu and Shiozawa-san have their photo op, and then Hiromu puts his prize aside so he can get back on the mic. The fans chant for “HI-RO-MU! HI-RO-MU!” Hiromu then tells everyone, “I’m home.” The fans cheer with an “Okairi! <Welcome home!>” Hiromu does apologize that it had to be Sho for this match. But Hiromu does want to talk to Bushi. They’re in different blocks, meaning they could end up opponents down the line. Even so, Bushi helped Hiromu out here, and he thanks Bushi for that. The fans applaud that, too! Hiromu then says, “See you in the semifinals, or even the finals!”

Hiromu thanks everyone for coming tonight. He’s still bummed to see empty seats. This building can fit about 5 THOUSAND, it’s that big. The other day, he was in Niigata, went out for a late dinner, and there was a guy at the restaurant who was a fan. “Oh, it’s Hiromu!” All excited to see him and stuff. Hiromu was flattered, glad to chat. Hiromu asked the fan how the show was tonight, and the guy went, “Huh? There was a show tonight?” A funny story, but it also bummed Hiromu out. NJPW needs to promote better. When NJPW goes to all these different places, even the wrestlers try to promote a little.

And this was a guy who watches World Pro-Wrestling TV weekly! Even then, he didn’t know NJPW was in town! It’s not funny, it’s a real problem and NJPW is working to fix it. But it’s also on the wrestlers to promote the shows more. They gotta hit TV, radio, newspapers, everywhere! Plaster the towns with posters! Advertise anywhere and everywhere! The fans applaud that. Hiromu knows Hachioji is a big city, but he also knows there are a lot of people here who love pro-wrestling. But many still miss out on live shows. If they knew, how many do you think would be in here? And Hiromu knows it’d be a whole lot of fun! The fans cheer that!

“That’s why, wherever we go, big or small, we have to reach each and every person. It’s on each and every wrestler to do so. With that kind of promotion, we can let every fan know that wrestling’s in town and pack the house.” The fans cheer in support of that! Hiromu says they haven’t gone as far as they can yet. They can fill up the seats in here! It’s what he wants! This is Best of the Super Juniors, and the finals are gonna main event Osaka-Jo Hall! And of course it’s gotta be Hiromu in that ring, in that spotlight! Hiromu vows to win BOSJ 31! And then he’ll return here next year as the champion! The fans love the sound of that!

Hiromu wants everyone here to remember his words. “Get excited for the next time we’re in town.” And of course, in this BOSJ, they have to have more, more, more, more, more, more, more, more, more, more, MORE, MORE, MORE, MORE, MORE… FUN TOGETHER~! Hiromu is not just aiming for the trophy and the championship, he wants NJPW to have it all! But will he be able to have it all himself as the rounds keep on coming?

Here are the NEW A Block standings!

Blake Christian: 4-0, 8 points
Titan: 3-1, 6 points
Kevin Knight: 3-1, 6 points
El Desperado: 2-2, 4 points
Kosei Fujita: 2-2, 4 points
Clark Connors: 2-2, 4 points
HAYATA: 2-2, 4 points
Yoshinobu Kanemaru: 1-3, 2 points
BUSHI: 1-3, 2 points
TJP: 0-4, 0 points

Here are the NEW B Block standings!

KUSHIDA: 3-1, 6 points
Taiji Ishimori: 3-1, 6 points
Hiromu Takahashi: 2-2, 4 points
SHO: 2-2, 4 points
Francesco Akira: 2-2, 4 points
Robbie Eagles: 2-2, 4 points
“Drilla” Moloney: 2-2, 4 points
DOUKI: 2-2, 4 points
Ninja Mack: 2-2, 4 points
Dragon Dia: 0-4, 0 points

My Thoughts:

Another great round for NJPW here with both blocks going in one night. And great news that of all the matches heading towards Dominion, it will be the BOSJ 31 finals that take the main event. I suppose that means Moxley VS Evil will be second to last, with all the usual antics certainly keeping it from being just a real good match. But that aside, the standings took quite a shift here, with Kushida and Taiji both taking their first losses, right as they’re about to face off in Round 5. Knight getting that comeback win on Desperado was great stuff, and Blake Christian coming out as the ONLY 4-0 is some great stuff.

Bushi getting the win over TJP definitely adds to TJP’s crisis of confidence angle, and I suppose Dia losing again shouldn’t be too shocking given Drilla can’t let someone else get a golden ticket off him. Fujita getting one off Connors is great, though, and with Eagles having already beat Drilla, maybe we get Fujita & Eagles VS Connors & Drilla at Dominion, as I don’t see three-fourths of that making the semifinals. And it’d be pretty cool if TMDK got in on feuding with Bullet Club War Dogs as War Dogs transition away from other feuds.

Hiromu VS Sho was really good stuff, especially with these apparent “arrest” antics. Great win for Hiromu, and great promo from him, as well. Hiromu obviously wants Junior Heavyweight wrestling to come into its own, but he also wants NJPW to get back up to where it was before Pandemic. The lack of advertising and promoting was a rather quiet problem as far as an American fan like myself could tell, so I commend on Hiromu bringing that real conversation up and charging his fellow wrestlers and the company with fixing it, not just leaving it up to fans.

My Score: 9/10

Backstage interview with The Acclaimed.

Lexy Nair is with Max Caster, Anthony Bowens & Billy Gunn. First off, congrats on the recent success of the newest video. Thank you, Lexy. And Bowens is facing Brian Cage in tonight’s main event, how- Daddy Ass has us stop there. Let’s talk about everyone going crazy, running wild. The Embassy turning on Swerve, The Elite abusing their authority. Billy isn’t sure if Lexy has watched older wrestling, but Billy has a thing about authority. So if they wanna get wild, if they wanna go nuts, that is right up their aisle!

Caster says that’s right! He also thanks Lexi for saying those nice things about his song. But that song was about him and Bowens going back to the Tag Division. If you read the lyrics, which are great lyrics, but none of those team decided to wrestle The Acclaimed. Perhaps they’re a little too afraid to wrestle the best team alive. So they took the first match they could find, and that turned out to be Bowens VS Brian Cage 1v1. Sure, Brian is The Machine, but there are a lot of machines that are now antiquated, and we know Brian doesn’t have AI in his brain. In fact, he can’t update his software! It’s about time Bowens takes Brian to the junkyard!

Bowens says that’s right! Platinum Max & Daddy Ass said it themselves, there is a lot of chaos and madness going on in AEW! Bowens tells Brian and his cronies that they decided to side with The Elite, well you’re looking at the foundation of AEW! The best tag team alive, the best homegrown stars, The Acclaimed! That train is gonna roll right through Brian tonight, courtesy of the Scissor King! Because EVERYONE loves The Acclaimed! Say it again, EVERYONE loves The Acclaimed!! The Five Tool Player is fired up, but will he need all those tools to dismantle The Machine?

Rush VS Cody Chhun!

El Toro Blanco is back again, and this time he is looking to reach the top of AEW. Will he stampede through everyone put in his path until he is adored with AEW gold?

The bell rings, the fans rally up with “FOUR C! FOUR C!” Chhun runs up but Rush dodges! Chhun hits buckles, then Rush CLOBBERS him! Chhun sits in the corner checking his jaw, but Rush goes to the far side. “If you mess with the bull…” You get BULL’S HORNS!! Rush drags Chhun to a cover, Rush wins!

Winner: Rush, by pinfall

Rush stands tall, but he doesn’t even care to celebrate, because this was more an inevitability than a victory to him. But then he sees Chhun stirring, and Rush drags him out of the ring! Rush CHOPS Chhun right down! Then he whips Chhun hard into barriers! The ref reprimands but Rush THROWS Chhun around again! Rush fires down fists, the fans boo as Rush DECKS Chhun! Rush won’t stop, he finds his favorite bright green cord! Rush LASHES Chhun, even as more refs rush out here! Rush CHOKES Chhun with the cord!! The refs all shout for him to stop, and Rush does. But he wants everyone to remember: Nothing happens unless HE says so!!

Rush storms off, spits on Chhun, and then grabs a chair! The refs warn him, so Rush simply stands on the chair to soak up the heat. Will nothing and no one stop Rush from rampaging his way to the top?

Lexy Nair is outside the trainer’s room.

She notes that to close Collision, Lance Archer & The Righteous viciously attacked FTR after the match. Bryan Danielson walks out, Lexy asks for a medical update. Well, The Elite put a bounty on Team AEW’s heads, and it seems to have worked. FTR won’t make it to Dynamite next Wednesday. But the Elite also failed, because here’s the thing. The Elite wants to change the world? They don’t even show up on Saturdays! And the failure is that Bryan is still here! So this Wednesday, Bryan will be on Dynamite. The Elite can take whatever shot they want, but they better get it done the first time. Otherwise, they won’t like the consequences.

Bryan heads out, but are The EVPs going to make sure no one makes it to Double or Nothing to oppose them?

Deonna Purrazzo VS Robyn Renegade!

The Virtuosa is still seething over her many run-ins with Thunder Rosa, but it seems their rematch isn’t destined to happen just yet. Will Deonna one-up La Mera Mera by beating Robyn worse than Rosa did?

Robyn fights up to whip free, then runs to sunset flip! Deonna stays up, then slaps the arms away to clamp on an ARMBAR! Robyn fights around, flails, and has the ROPEBREAK! The ref counts, Deonna lets go at 4, and Rampage goes picture in picture.

Deonna stalks Robyn, brings her around and whips, but Robyn holds ropes. Deonna ROCKS Robyn, Robyn still holds ropes! Deonna ROCKS Robyn again, whips, but Robyn reverses. Robyn ducks the forearm, and the backhand, then clinches for a HALF NELNSON FACEBUSTER! Robyn fires up, she sits Deonna up, and runs to SHOTGUN her down! Cover, TWO! Robyn is frustrated, but she drags Deonna back up and bumps her off buckles. Robyn CHOPS Deonna, smirks, and winds up to CHOP again! Robyn says one more time, then puts some stank on it. But Deonna dodges to CHOP back! Deonna whips corner to corner, but Robyn reverses.

Robyn runs in, but Deonna puts her on the apron! Robyn ROCKS Deonna first, steps in, but Deonna ARM CODE BREAKERS! Robyn writhes, Deonna storms over, and Deonna drags Robyn up. Deonna knuckle locks, wrenches, then top wristlocks to wrangle Robyn. Deonna traps the arm for a SNAP LOCK! Cover, TWO! Robyn clutches the arm but Deonna is on her again. Deonna pulls on the bad arm, then top wristlocks. Robyn endures as Deonna thrashes the arm, and Rampage goes to break.

Rampage returns and Deonna wrenches Robyn’s arm. Robyn ROCKS Deonna, but Deonna wrenches again. Robyn fires off a flurry of forearms and the fans fire up! Deonna shoves Robyn but Robyn LARIATS on return! The fans fire up with Robyn, then she wrenches Deonna to reel her in, put her in ropes, and KNEE her! Robyn runs to then STOMP Deonna down! Cover, TWO!! Deonna survives and Robyn is frustrated. The fans rally, Robyn drags Deonna up, then fireman’s carries. Deonna slips free, shoves, and BOOTS Robyn down! Deonna slashes her throat and vows to end this! The fans fire up as Deonna drags Robyn up.

Deonna Gotch hooks, but Robyn slips free! Robyn pump handles, but Deonna arm-drags free! Deonna BOOTS the lariat, ARMBAR DDT! FUJIWARA!! Robyn taps, Deonna wins!

Winner: Deonna Purrazzo, by submission

Deonna didn’t even need Venus De Milo, but then she puts that on Robyn anyway!! The ref reprimands, the fans boo, but Deonna makes Robyn suffer in Rosa’s place! But wait, here comes Thunder Rosa!! La Mera Mera rushes the ring, but Deonna runs away! So when does the part about regretting to mess with a Jersey girl come in? Rosa checks Robyn, and Deonna slithers back in! Deonna CLOBBERS Rosa from behind! Oh so that’s the part about Jersey? Rosa gets up, though, and Deonna retreats again. Rosa runs Deonna down and grabs her by the hair! Rosa drags Deonna back to the ring to RAM her into the apron!

The fans fire up as Rosa tells Deonna to fight her now! Rosa puts Deonna in, Deonna rolls out of the ring and runs into the crowd! The fans boo as Deonna flees into the night. When and where will Deonna have to give Rosa this fight?

Scorpio Sky speaks.

“I have done things people dream about. I’ve made money, faced legends, won championship after championship after championship. And you might not wanna hear this, but that was easy. And that doesn’t mean I don’t relate. I understand a normal person put in my position would fail. Because since time began, when people wanted to see a star, they’d look up at the Sky. And all that does is put me in the perfect place to reach down and lift you all up here with me. So to all the fans around the world, I’m coming back. And I’m here for you.” But will this comeback finally be the time Scorpio Sky reaches the top of the mountain?

Backstage interview with Sonjay Dutt.

Lexy Nair says Sonjay asked for this time, what is on his mind? Sonjay says first off, he sure doesn’t need Lexy here so hit the bricks. Skedaddle, peace, see ya. Lexy sighs and leaves, and Sonjay says this is for Bryan Danielson. The Elite have put a price out on Bryan’s head, and Sonjay just got off the phone with them, they have worked out quite the deal. Bryan says he’ll be on Dynamite, and so is Sonjay. But no, Sonjay isn’t the one that’ll take him out once and for all. This Wednesday, it will be The American Dragon VS… The Indian Giant! Yeah, that’s right! The one in a billion, Satnam Singh!

And y’know what? Dragon meat is expensive, so hopefully he goes well with a little chicken masala. This Wednesday, it will be one hell of a cookout! Sonjay laughs to himself, but will Bryan be the one with the last laugh after taking on this giant roadblock?

PROGRAMMING NOTE for Rampage next week!

Yes, Rampage returns to Friday nights next week, BUT at a special time of 6:30 Eastern, 3:30 Pacific! Make sure your DVRs know so you don’t miss this special Double or Nothing weekend edition!

Brian Cage VS Anthony Bowens w/ The Acclaimed!

The Machine turned on Swerve and then got beat by Swerve, crossing him off the list of top contenders. But will he reboot and head for other title opportunities? Or will The Acclaimed prove they can get it done in any division?

As always, Platinum Max has a diss track! “I heard Brian Cage got captain plans. We leave you bleeding so hard, you got menstrual cramps! Damn you are ugly, lookin’ pathetic. You are so small, get off the Ozempic! When did Brian Cage stop lifting weights? Beat him so bad, whip his ass into shape! Run you outta town just like Daim, because in Portland, Everybody Loves The Acclaimed!” Bowens then says, “PORTLAAAAND~! The Acclaimed have arrived! Scissor me, Daddy Ass~!” And he does~! The fans are fired up, but will Cage get his stuff in in response?

The bell rings and the fans sing “OH~ Scissor Me, Daddy~!” Cage and Bowens circle, tie up, and Cage shoves Bowens away! Cage flexes, fans are torn, and Cage says to scissor that. Bowens has Cage hold on, and then Bowens flexes. The fans cheer for Bowens, and he does scissor that! Cage runs up, Bowens gets around, then CHOPS! And CHOPS! Cage TOSSES Bowens to a corner, takes a swing, but Bowens dodges! Bowens CHOPS and CHOPS, but Cage shoves Bowens away. Cage runs up, Bowens gets under and kicks low. Bowens whips, Cage reverses, but Bowens goes up and over. Bowens hurdles, headlocks, but Cage powers out.

Bowens hurdles, slips around the lariat and DDTS! Cover, ONE!! Cage is tougher than that but the fans fire up behind Bowens. Bowens gets Cage up but Cage SPINEBUSTERS him! Cage says no more scissors! Cage storms up to RAM into Bowens! And RAM in again! And then CHOP! The fans “WOO~!” while Cage stalks Bowens. Cage bumps Bowens off buckles, then says one more time! NOT! Cage trolls the fans, whips Bowens, then runs up to UPPERCUT! LARIAT! SAIDO! Cage asks who betta but the fans are torn. Cage storms over to Bowens, drags him up, and ROCKS him with a forearm. Cage CHOPS, ROCKS Bowens again, then CHOPS again.

Winner: Brian Cage, by pinfall

Bowens may be an excellent former Tag & Trios Champion, but sadly he isn’t at the level needed as a singles guy. Will The Acclaimed have to regroup and focus on going after The Elite? Will The Machine be granted golden opportunities by said Elite?

My Thoughts:

A very good Rampage to once again follow up Collision, but I’m relieved that next week is going to be a partial return to normal schedule. Because as great as the matches here were, they just felt thrown together to tangentially tell stories. For example, Kyle VS Lee was a great match but Kyle has beef with The House of Black but they didn’t want Kyle getting one over on Buddy or Brody before facing Malakai next Wednesday. Shane Taylor Promotions deserves a touch better than being fed to the bigger stories, but maybe they come around as a trio after Double or Nothing to face like Bang Bang Gang or something.

And even our main event was an example of this. Great promo from Acclaimed, great rap from Caster as usual, but also a good choice for Cage to still win out. Cage has done singles champ stuff, is going to be the singles champ guy in whatever the former Mogul Embassy becomes after this, or even just a singles guy all on his own. Rush of course squashes his opponent tonight but him going after Chhun after was a good touch. At the same time, I kinda wanted the ref to reverse the decision and disqualify Rush after the match, throwing him into a worse rage and beating up on Chhun more. And again, why no La Faccion Ingobernable? Donde esta Dralistico, Preston Vance y Jose?

Good match from Deonna VS Robyn but of course Deonna won. Rosa going after Deonna and Deonna running away was not what I was expecting, it’s rather disappointing, and why not just give us their rematch with escalated stipulations already? Deonna VS Rosa in a Last Woman Standing maybe? Iron Woman Match so that it goes right to half an hour? Something cool like that would really show Tony Khan finally wants to do more with the Women’s Division after promising it like two or three times already.

And very good promos from Bryan and Sonjay Dutt to set up Bryan VS Satnam. I would think Bryan wins, but there’s a good chance Team Triple J goes after him post match anyway. As I just said in the Collision article, Anarchy in the Arena being No Disqualifications of the highest level, we could actually get way more than just the eight men advertised as the roster starts choosing sides, a very Avengers Civil War/Endgame type situation.

My Score: 8.6/10
