The Street Profits VS Tino Sabbatelli & Riddick Moss!

Angelo Dawkins & Montez Ford see the Blue Chip Boys spending big money, so it’s time to see if they can put their money where their mouth is on the last stop before WarGames. Dawkins and Tino start, they tie up and Dawkins powers Tino back but gets put in the corner instead. Tino disrespectfully breaks, so Dawkins gives him a waistlock takedown. Tino scrambles, back elbows out, whips Dawkins but Dawkins dodges, Ford tags in. Shoulder takes Tino down, Ford dropkicks and Dawkins splashes. Moss comes in, double dropkick sends him back out. Ford dusts off his hands then gives Tino a spinning lariat in the corner. Moss comes back and Ford chases him off, but Tino pounces from behind. Tino brings Ford over, tags Moss, Moss mugs Ford in the corner. Ford’s on the ropes, Moss back suplex slams him down. Moss embraces the heat and mocks Dawkins’ stir-it-up. Moss toys with Ford, brings him back over, tag to Tino. Tino gives Ford stiff body shots and forearms, trash talking all the way. Tino mocks Dawkins, too, before giving Ford more forearms. Tino trash talks too much, Ford slips under but is reeled into a back suplex, Ford lands on his feet, hot tag to Dawkins! Dawkins rallies on Tino, then on Moss with a bulldog. Dawkins spinning lariat to Moss, but misses on Tino. Tino knocks Ford away, but gets knocked down by a stiff right, Dawkins covers while Ford anchors Moss, the Street Profits win! And then hop into the crowd to celebrate with Full Sail. Can they use this win to cash in on tag title gold in the near future?

What’s in a name? Everything.

“Is there a difference between the dark and the light?” Aleister Black, Embodiment of the End, has turned the lights out on many opponents, but the Velveteen Dream wishes to shine. As such, the Patrick Clark Experience has worked to take the spotlight away from Aleister, but Aleister will not “acknowledge a child who throws a tantrum to get attention.” Since a tantrum didn’t work, Velveteen got in Aleister’s face. Velveteen Dream wants Aleister Black to #SayMyName, but will he instead #FadetoBlack? Find out at TakeOver: WarGames.

Lars Sullivan VS Raul Mendoza!

The Cruiserweight Classic competitor looks to make his mark, but perhaps he was too ambitious in thinking he could make an impact on The Leviathan before the Knockout Artist, Kassius Ohno, can. The bell rings, Raul dodges Lars, then kicks and kicks and kicks. He tries to whip, Lars reverses, Raul slips out and kicks Lars away. Raul springboards but Lars literally uses his head to stop him in midair.

Raul crashes down, Lars runs in corner to corner to crush Raul against buckles. Lars backs up and does it again! Then, with Raul as a rag doll, Lars hits a spinning powerslam!

But Lars isn’t done making an example of Raul just yet. He stands over Raul, drags him up, and clobbers him with crossface punches. Then, a deadlift into that Mile High Slam!

Lars wins! Ohno has guts for wanting to face him, but will Ohno even have a chance of winning?

Lars looms over Raul again, his thirst for destruction is not satisfied. So Ohno to the rescue!

The Hero of NXT won’t let Lars bully anyone else, and he’s not backing down. Lars just laughs at Ohno for thinking he can do a thing to him. The Leviathan takes his leave, will he be laughing all the way through WarGames?

NXT General Manager, William Regal, is visited in his office by Johnny Gargano.

Johnny Wrestling knows he’s been on a losing streak, but he knows he still belongs. Regal knows that, he has all the faith in Gargano. Which is why Regal is coming to Gargano with this opportunity. WWE United Kingdom Champion, Pete Dunne, has issued an open challenge to NXT for the title. Regal is pretty confident in Gargano’s ability, Gargano is, too. Challenge accepted, for next week’s NXT. Can Johnny Wrestling be the first American to win the UK Championship when it’s the Bruiserweight he has to beat?

NXT WarGames’ three teams speak on entering such an infamous match.

“The Undisputed Era lives by a saying, ‘Do not start a war that you cannot finish.’” When they went right after the NXT Tag Team Champions, SAnitY, the NXT Champion, Drew McIntyre, and WWE UK Champion, Pete Dunne, they knew what they were doing. They also thought they knew what they were doing when trying to recruit Roderick Strong, someone they were familiar with. Strong was a man who came so close but was still so far from the NXT Championship. And at first, it looked like Strong had accepted their offer. However, Adam Cole, Kyle O’Reilly and Bobby Fish were reminded of the trouble they had started.

SAnitY is the “group that wrote the book on making their mark.” But then, to everyone’s surprise, the group that wrote the book on dominance returned, as the Authors of Pain decimated SAnitY, too!

And perhaps the most shocking of all, Strong revealed he was not joining the Undisputed Era, but resisting them!

That was the night that TakeOver: Houston was rewritten into TakeOver: WarGames! Paul Ellering was there as part of the original WarGames, and he remembers it as “Survival of the Fittest!” At WarGames, “when the dust settles”, only one team will survive to #ShocktheSystem.

Ember Moon VS Mercedes Martinez!

The Prophecy of Flames was called out by Mean Ms. Martinez for being a choke artist, so this match is to either prove her right or prove her wrong, just days before the NXT Women’s Championship Fatal 4 Way. The bell rings, the two circle, tie up, Ember backs Mercedes up but then Mercedes gets a waistlock. Ember gets an arm wrench but Mercedes clubs her into a headlock. Ember power out but Mercedes uses hair to reel back into the hold. Ember powers out again, Mercedes runs her over. Mercedes runs, but that was to fake Ember out, she stomps Ember down then headlock takeover. Ember endures a deep wrench, fans rally, Ember gets up and powers out, but wristlock reels Ember into a kick and a stuff uppercut. Mercedes whips, Ember lands on her feet out of the hip toss to arm-drag and dropkick Mercedes down. Ember sweeps Mercedes’ legs, runs to dropkick Mercedes down again, cover, TWO. Ember drags Mercedes up, arm wrench, whip and clothesline. Corner to corner reversed, stiff forearm from Mercedes. ember stays up to give a European Uppercut, runs but into a spinebuster!

Ember down hard, cover, TWO. Mercedes is getting annoyed with Ember, who rolls away as we go to break.

We return, Ember rolls up Mercedes, TWO. Mercedes swings, misses, Ember kicks and knees, enziguri misses but Mercedes’ stiff chop sends Ember rolling and writhing. Mercedes stalks Ember, a sadistic grin on her face. She lifts Ember up, snap suplex and roll through, another snap suplex, then the Third Amiga is a standing suplex. Cover, TWO, Mercedes is shocked. She gets Ember up again, Fisherman blocked, Ember fights back but Mercedes uses body shots, too. Ember gets out, kicks low, enziguri rocks Mercedes. Ember gets space, hops up and huricanrana sends Mercedes out. Fans rally as Ember fires up and builds speed, and DIVES!

Direct hit and Mercedes goes down! The fans are loving it as Ember drags Mercedes up and in, Ember climbs up top and takes aim. Mercedes boots her, then hits her with a SUPER CUTTER!

Cover, TWO, and Mercedes is shocked all over again. Another cover, TWO, Mercedes is getting mad. She drags Ember up, another try at the Fisherman, small package counter, TWO! Mercedes runs but her boot misses, Ember hangs her up for a draping springboard stomp. Mercedes down as Ember climbs up again, aims and jumps, ECLIPSE!

Ember wins! Ember gets one more chance at the NXT Women’s Championship, is third time truly the charm?

However, Crazy Nikki Cross appears from the crowd, as usual.

But then the Iconic Duo’s Peyton Royce appears on stage.

And not to be left out, the Pirate Princess, Kairi Sane, appears!

Only one woman gets to leave Houston as the next NXT Women’s Champion, who will lead NXT’s Women’s Revolution into the next phase?

It’s time for the promised final face-to-face!

First out to the ring, the NXT Champion and undefeated Celtic Colossus, Drew McIntyre!

The champ says “it’s great when a plan comes together.” So congrats, Andrade Almas, your little plan worked. Or rather, Zelina Vega’s plan worked. But either way, El Idolo has his title match set for TakeOver: WarGames. It’s one thing to ask for an opportunity, but when you actually get it, reality sets in and you realize what kind of man you really are. It’s clear what kind of man McIntyre is, but when pressure’s on, Almas won’t be able to say the same. As for the “lovely, fiery, feisty” Zelina Vega, she rambles on about climbing mountains. News flash: Almas is gonna find out “real quick” that McIntyre IS “the bloody mountain!” He stands here and now to ask Cien to face him like a man. Don’t do it to prove something to McIntyre or Zelina, but to prove something to yourself. For once, be a man. Unless, Zelina won’t let you off your leash. Speaking of Zelina, she is the one who comes out first.

And then El Idolo, who breaks off his “leash” to go right at McIntyre!

A brawl before TakeOver, McIntyre gets the edge with heavy hands, but then Zelina flies in! To be caught!

McIntyre sets her down, but then Almas chop blocks and unleashes forearms and knees. One stiff kick, and then Hammerlock DDT!

Zelina is all smiles as her client stands over the champion. Zelina takes that title belt and says it’ll be Almas’ soon enough. Will that be true after TakeOver?

My Thoughts:

Solid go-home start to finish for such a big WWE Weekend. Street Profits VS Blue Chip Boys was basically filler but still fun, wouldn’t mind a rematch that goes longer since this didn’t end with a finisher. Raul Mendoza was definitely not winning against Lars Sullivan, and Lars laughing at Ohno was good for character build, Lars is powerful and he knows it, so why waste energy beating Ohno up now? It’d ruin the fun of Lars getting to do that at TakeOver. But at the same time, Ohno can earn some major points by making Lars look mortal, even if he ends up losing in the end. And assuming Ohno loses here, maybe he’ll finally get to go to the main roster, perhaps SmackDown to challenge for the US Championship.

Good to see WWE was going to televise that Gargano-Dunne match after all, everyone was upset when it seemed as if it was exclusive to Houston. Another amazing video package for the WarGames match itself, seeing Strong stand with Ellering and the Authors is really cool even if this is some short-term alliance to take on common enemies. Ember VS Mercedes was really good, both women are definitely going to be staples of NXT’s Women’s Division going forward, but all four challengers for the title gathering in the arena seems redundant when we saw all four of them just a couple weeks ago. Either way, Ember still feels like the underdog when you also have the Mae Young Classic winner in Kairi Sane, the Iconic Duo there to help each other out, and the momentum Nikki Cross has been gathering as of late, but this really could be her time after waiting for so long. Great promo from McIntyre, and should’ve known the face-to-face would be a fight by the end. Almas gets the upper hand now but 50–50 booking math says that means McIntyre comes back to win and stay undefeated.

My Score: 8.5/10

Slammiversary Fallout! Where do things go on the way to Victory Road?

Published

on

Well now we start the fall out of Slammiversary. Josh Alexander in his bad bitch summer, X-Speedball legacy, ABC got the t-a-g and Jordynne is still in charge of the Knockouts division. Like I said at the end of Slammiversary, all of the champions being Babyfaces is stupid. They need to drop a couple titles fairly quickly, because I don’t care what some people say, Nic Nemeth ain’t gonna bring any eyes to the brand. He’s about as hot as day old Hamburger Helper over a camping sterno.

We’ll probably open with the luke warm champion, so tune in like 10 minutes late for anything of substance to be happen.

https://x.com/i/status/1816629254349533588

Ratings:

  • Steve Maclin vs Cody Deaner: Maclin wins via KIA – *
  • AJ Francis w/Rich Swann & Josh Bishop vs Sami Callihan: AJ wins via Down Payment – **
  • Hammer Your ASH (ASH by Elegance & Alexander Hammerstone) vs JuggerYoung (Jordynne Grace & Eric Young): Hammer Your ASH wins via Torture Rack – ** 1/2
  • The System (Eddie Edwards, Brian Myers & JDC) w/Alisha Edwards vs Matt Hardy & The ABC (Ace Austin & Chris Bey): Broken Alphabet wins via Twist & Splash – ***

Results:

Nemeth gives the ole “I’ll be a fighting champion…blah blah” promo and drops the “any company” line that we’ve already understood what that means. Campaign Singh cuts him off…and I never thought I’d be happy for Campaign Singh to walk out and say anything…ever. And…Mustafa’s promo is worse than Dolph’s. He’s gone from parody to caricature even saying “it was the biggest screw job Montreal ever saw”. Like some of these lines are cheap heat, but most are just brain dead comments that wouldn’t get a reaction out of anyone (and the crowd was silent for that comment). Mustafa gets caught in an Archer “phrasing” moment about getting screwed hard, but this is painful. Promos written by 14 year olds everyone…

This ends with Ali challenging Nemeth for the World Title. While I’m not against walk up challenges, I watch Japanese wrestling, I don’t really get the point aside from doing it just to do it.

ABC and Matt Hardy have a small promo, and I’m still not really a fan of Unbroken Matt Version 6.0. The floating between Broken voice and his normal voice sounds amateurish.

OH LOOK, finally a match 20 minutes into the show. And it’s my son Steve Maclin! OH CHRIST he’s facing Deaner. This has been 25 minutes of talking followed by the worst god damn attempt at a gimmick. Deaner’s little “Papa Santino told me I can wipe my ass only if the crowd agrees”. This gimmick should die in a fire.

Steve Maclin vs Cody Deaner

Deaner started off quick because Maclin was in disbelief that Deaner was actually gonna fight him. Maclin dodges a Crossbody, Busaiku Knee, and just starts beating on Deaner for fun. And this is fun, maybe Maclin can make sure Deaner gets stretchered out and written off forever. How do you call for an ambulance in French? Maclin with the old Back Breaker into a stretch. Deaner tries to nerd rage up, breaks the Back Breaker Stretch, his punch combo, into a Manhattan Drop and Bulldog. Deaner hits the Crossbody, but Maclin kicks out. This is entirely too competitive.

Deaner goes for the Deaner DDT, blocked, Olympic Slam into Splashing Deaner into the corner, Caught in the Crosshairs, K-I-A, thanks for coming you damn dweeb. Stay in Canada and don’t travel Deaner, please.

https://x.com/i/status/1816633784537874761

AJ Francis w/Rich Swann & Josh Bishop vs Sami Callihan

As the bell sounds, Sami knocks Rich off the apron, Low Bridges AJ, does the Beats of the Bodhran on AJ and then AJ eats the offense and strategizes with his crew. Bishop and Rich swarm the ring, Sami allows himself to get distracted so AJ slides in and starts beating on Sami. AJ throats Sami across the middle rope and Rich makes his presence felt, AJ distracts the referee and Rich gets in a lot of cheap shots. Bishop throws Sami back in the ring, and AJ keeps up the pressure. Lots of 5 count chokes and leverage moves. After the commercial break ends, Sami dodges a Tennessee Whiskey Knee, gets in a few shots before Rich trips Sami as he’s setting up a Dive, and then AJ takes advantage of the position and hits the goofball knee strike.

AJ calls for his Chokeslam, Sami tries to break it with Axe Handles, then claws the eyes. Sami goes for a Scoop Slam, gets him part way up and then falls over. AJ Chokeslam again, but he bites his hand and starts fighting back. Launches himself at AJ, sends him bouncing off the ropes and uses the momentum to hit that Scoop Slam that was teased earlier. Sami goes for a Western Lariat but eats a Big Boot. AJ does a little Hulk Hogan pose to signal a Leg Drop, but Sami dodges and then connects on a Sliding Lariat. Thumbs Up, Thumbs….interference. Rich distracts the ref, Bishop lays out Sami, AJ connects with the Down Payment.

Hammer Your ASH (ASH by Elegance & Alexander Hammerstone) vs JuggerYoung (Jordynne Grace & Eric Young)

ASH and Jordynne exchange slaps and then Jordynne starts to out muscle ASH. Spinebuster from Jordynne, Juggernaut Driver attempt, but ASH fights off, rope run, Sattelite DDT into both tagging out. EY does the Flair corner flop, slides back in between Hammer’s legs, and connects on a Neckbreaker. EY is the quicker of the two, but Hammer finally gets his hands on him and a Release Belly to Belly into a full mount raining of fists, then a near fall. Hammer smashes EY in a corner, Arm Wringer into an Irish Whip across, but EY moves and Hammer tags out to ASH. ASH levels Jordynne, peppers EY with a few shots and pulls him back to their corner and starts some tandem offense with Hammerman. Hammer Guerilla Presses ASH and throws her into EY for a near fall. Hammer looks to aim for either a Powerbomb or Nightmare Pendulum, but EY drops it into a Small Package, pinfall kick out, they both run, Double Lariat spot. The Knockouts get tagged in.

Jordynne is in control early, World’s Strongest Slam into a Vader Bomb. Juggernaut Driver attempt, but ASH fights it off and tags out to Hammer. Jordynne and EY do some schoolyard stuff with the old Push while Jordynne is down to trip Hammer. All four get in, ASH gets leveled, EY gets leveled, Hammer and Jordynne have a brief face off, but Hammer throws Jordynne to the apron and ASH connects with a Meteora from the apron. Death Valley Driver from Young on Hammer, ASH stares in shock, EY tells her to get, ASH runs away. EY goes up for his Macho Elbow, and ASH causes him to fall to Hammer’s feet, Torture Rack, and EY submits.

Josh Alexander comes out, with new heel music. And it’s not that bad, definitely better than some other people’s new music. Josh yells at the crowd a bit, says he can’t wait til he’s back in a real Canadian town, like his home of Toronto. Then he drops the mic in lieu of an explanation. The crowd chants him off with the “Nah Nah Nah Nah, Hey Hey Hey”.

https://x.com/i/status/1816647373654724937

The System (Eddie Edwards, Brian Myers & JDC) w/Alisha Edwards vs Matt Hardy & The ABC (Ace Austin & Chris Bey)

JDC and Hardy start, but JDC quickly tags out to Myers and that doesn’t go well. Hardy grabs a hold of Myers, a few Delete chops, drags him to his corner and they all get in a few shots punctuated with Hardy getting tagged back in and an Elbow into Myers’ extended and worked on left arm. Myers stays isolated, back into the corner, Boot to the gut, Ace tags in and wallops Myers. Ace connects on Double Kicks, into Russian Leg Sweep and his half of Click Click Boom, for a 2 count. Myers finally gets free with a Jaw Breaker and tags out to Eddie. But The System gets no momentum, Ace stifles Eddie’s offense and starts a few quick tags with him and Bey for tandem offense. Moose finally comes down the ramp as Eddie kicked out of yet another pinfall attempt because The System has had nothing going for them. Eddie finally gets some offense since Moose was a big enough distraction.

Eddie thinks they have a spot, so he tags back in JDC, but The ABC stop him cold, tag in Matt Hardy, and Matt walks down JDC, but JDC Low Bridges. Matt is on the outside, so all of The System surrounds Hardy, then Joe Hendry’s music hits! That stops the heel beatdown, and we follow Hendry’s entire entrance. So that proves Hendry is bigger than the 8 other people in this frame. Not really sure if that’s optics you want to push along. Ace and JDC try to remind people there’s wrestling going on, but JDC thumbs the eye to get a little something going. Vertical Suplex for a near fall, tag out for Eddie and Eddie lights up Ace with some of those NOAH Chops. Ace retreats to the ropes and Alisha chokes him with the ropes while the ref is distracted.

Myers gets tagged in, Ace tries to use the crowd energy, Myers stops it at first but then Ace slips a Scoop Slam and tags out to Bey. Hot tag, strike rush, Double Stomp, educated feet, Leap Frog to the corner but Lish climbs on the apron and yells at Bey which stops his rhythm. Myers kicks his feet out and causes Bey to crash. Eddie tags in for a few shots, then to JDC and Slingshot Knees, Wringer Snapmare, Bow and Arrow Submission, and JDC is just doing solid wrestling work right now. Uppercut between the Shoulder Blades as Bey tries to get out, tag to Myers and Bey is still eating offense. Eddie tags in, Bey tries the Sunset Flip, but Eddie tags out before going over, so Myers folds up Bey for a near fall and then tags out to JDC who connects on a Standing Suplex, slams Bey’s face into the corner, Eddie tags in, and Bey finally fights up to his feet, Eddie just flatten Bey’s comeback, tries a Tiger Driver but eats an Enzuigiri for a simultaneous tag. JDC and Hardy come in, JDC tries to exit halfway in, but Hardy is wrecking shop. He disposes of Eddie, Myers slides in but eats a tandem Neckbreaker/DDT from Hardy. Face team does the Delete Corner Face Smashes. Poetry in Motion into a Side Effect into Corkscrew Swanton for only 2 since Myers breaks it up! Everyone throwing hands, referee is distracted, Moose comes in to Spear Hardy, but Hardy dodges and throws him into JDC (I get the call back), Hendry then lays out Moose with the big Lariat. Twist of Fate from Hardy, Splash from Bey, Broken Alphabet wins!

Overall Score: 4/10

Ugh, cliche promos, too damn much talking, a competitive squash match with an imbecile as our first “match”, into an overbooked and slow heel match, finally a decent tag match (with the right team going over), into another overbooked match with a “tease” for the mystery backup being more obvious than Jericho’s WWF debut.

Aside from the afore mentioned tag match, The Rascalz promo and The System Promo; this was hard to watch. A lot of cornball promos, Rosemary licks her conspiracy board, storylines got zero traction. Whoopity Doo, Ryan Nemeth got a match next week and we get an undead wedding.

While this was a bad episode, it was bad by at least new standards. We’re not back in the TNA Dark Days again, but this was…a useless show.
