Mr Perfect vs Ric Flair
Retirement Match

Flair wins a Collar and Elbow Tie-up when he pushes Perfect into the corner but Perfect slaps him in the face. Flair pushesPerfect so Perfect slaps him again. Another Collar and Elbow ends with Flair putting Perfect in a Headlock but Perfect pushes him off the ropes and is knocked down by a Flair Shoulder Block. Flair shoots of the ropes again but Perfect takes him down with a Drop Toe Hold and Slaps Flair in the face again as he gets to his feet. Flair rolls to the outside for a breather where Bobby Heenan offers him a hammer. In the ring, Flair turns a Collar and Elbow into a HAMMERlock which Perfect turns into one of his own. Flair takes Perfect down with a Drop Toe Hold and a front Facelock but Perfect turns that into another Hammerlock. Flair gets himself out of that by backing Perfect into the corner and hitting him with a Back Elbow to the skull and a Chop (woo). Perfect turns Flair around and lights him up with a series of his own chops which lead to a Flair Flop. From a Collar and Elbow, Flair takes Perfect to the canvas with a Headlock but Perfect grabs Flair’s head with his legs and takes him down. Back to their feet and Flair knees Perfect in the gut and throws him into the corner where he chops Perfect (woo) and punches him. Again Perfect turns it around, again he chops Flair but this time he peppers Flair with Left Jabs that keep knocking Flair down. Flair jabs Perfect with a thumb to the eye before throwing him over the top rope to the outside of the ring. On the outside, Flair grabs a chair to hit Perfect with but the referee leaps at Flair and takes the chair from his hands.

Back from the ads andFlair thwars a Sunset Flip attempt with a punch to the face and an Irish Whip that sends Perfect over and out to the ringside mats again. Perfect is bleeding. Flair drags Perfect back into the ring and punches the cut in his head before Irish Whipping Perfect so hard into the corner that he spins out and lands on the canvas. It gets Flair a two count. Flair complains to the referee while Bane-choking Perfect with his shin. Flair and Perffect exchange punches and chops (woo) before Perfect Irish Whips Flair into the corner and catches him with a Right Hand as he comes out of the corner and a Roll Up that gets a two count. Flair whips Perfect off the ropes but Perfect counters a Hip Toss attempt with a Backslide that eventually gets a two count. Perfect hits Flair with an Irish Whip and a huge Back Drop. Flair begs off and backs up into the corner until Perfect grabs his ankles and slams him, back first, onto the canvas. Perfect hits Flair with five out of ten punches in the corner before Flair hits him with an Inverted Atomic Drop and a School Boy for a two count. Flair rolls to the outside but Perfect grabs him and Suplexes him back into the ring for a two. Flair catches Perfect with a Sleeper Hold things that slows things down but Perfect’s arm only goes down twice. Perfect fights his way back to his feet before he pulls Flair into the turnbuckle to break the hold. Perfect sends Flair off the ropes and catches him with some kind of leaping Chinlock that gets a two count. Flair fights his way back to his feet and breaks the hold with a Side Suplex.

Flair applies the Figure Four but the referee forces him to break it when he catches Flair using the ropes for leverage. Flair Snapmares Perfect and climbs to the top rope. Those of you paying attention last week will know that Flair NEVER hits this. Perfect gets to his feet and Press Slams Flair from the turnbuckles down to the canvas.

Back from the ads and Flair pulls a set of brass knuckles from his knee pad and chins Perfect with them before hiding the evidence back in his knee pad. Flair hits an Elbow Drop but only gets a two when the referee eventually notices Perfect’s foot on the bottom rope. Flair grabs Perfect’s foot off the ropes and gets another two, this time Perfect kicked out. Flair unloads with Right Hands to Perfect’s open forehead wound. Flair chops Perfect in the corner (woo) but it has no effect. Perfect’s second wind has Flair backing into the corner before unloading with Chops an Irish Whip, a Back Drop and a Clothesline. Perfect Irish Whips Flair who goes over the turnbuckle, down the apron and up the next turnbuckle where he launches himself at Perfect.

It NEVER works! This time Perfect catches Flair in mid air with a Clothesline that gets Perfect a two count. Flair takes down Perfect and tries to pin him with his foot on the ropes but the referee eventually spots this and puts a stop to it, Perfect then rolls up Flair for a two. Flair whips Perfect off the ropes and ducks for a Backdrop but Perfect grabs him in a Perfect Plex that gets the three count. Flair is gone. He will never be back again. OK he’ll be back in late 2001, which at the rate I’m going through these means we will not see Ric Flair again until late 2026 (something to look forward to I suppose)

Winner: Mr Perfect

We get yet another airing of that blasted Mania commercial and Vince McMahon hypes next week’s show that includes Doink vs Typhoon and we are done.

Post Show: I thought this was the better of the Raw episodes we have done. There were two big Star versus Star matches this week and no major Star versus Enhancement matches (give or take your views on the Brooklyn Brawler)

Match Of The Night: Mr Perfect vs Ric Flair. It’s not a (pardon the unintended pun) perfect match but it’s a good one.

MVP: Mr Perfect. Tonight he looked like a main event player and not a mid card, Intercontinental level. It’ll be interesting to see how WWE follow up on this.

With that I am done. I can be found on Twitter @Callaweasy2220 where I live tweet Raw, Smackdown, NXT and (when there’s one on like the weekend just gone when we had Money In The Bank and an NXT TakeOver) Pay Per View.

Let’s make this interesting and interactive. Chairshot is all about #UseYourHead so do just that. These episodes of Raw and anything I cover are easily available on the WWE Network. Go watch them, #UseYourHead and form YOUR opinion on these shows. What did YOU think? What did YOU like? Could you book WWE in 1993 better? Feel free to tweet me @Callaweasy2220 with YOUR answers to these questions and YOUR opinions

I will be back next week with a Chairshot Classics special and then it will be Raw episode Four (looking forward so much to Doink vs Typhoon). So until next week, #UseYourHead and ALWAYS have an Angle!

Chris King Looks Back: Edge vs Randy Orton in the “Greatest Wrestling Match Ever”

Chris King takes a look at the memorable WWE Backlash 2020 “Greatest Wrestling Match Ever” featuring Edge and Randy Orton!

Edge Randy Orton WWE Backlash 2020 Greatest Wrestling Match Ever

Chris King takes a look at the memorable WWE Backlash 2020 “Greatest Wrestling Match Ever” featuring Edge and Randy Orton!

Edge made his shocking return at the 2020 Royal Rumble and immediately reunited with his former Rated-RKO member Randy Orton. It all seemed like old times as both superstars shared respect with each other. The following night on Monday Night Raw after Orton proclaimed he wanted to get Rated-RKO back together, he hit a vicious RKO and CON-CHAIR-TO on Edge.

‘The Viper’ was in his mind trying to protect his former partner after being out of the business for nine years but, Edge wanted to write his own storybook ending to his career. After Orton took out Edge’s wife Beth Phoenix, both men went to war in a Last Man Standing match at WrestleMania,,, in which Edge was victorious. This did not sit well with The Viper, who had gone back to his sick and sadistic ways. In order to prove who the better wrestler is, WWE announced they would compete in the Greatest Wrestling Match Ever at Backlash.

The production for this match was legendary as both superstars were introduced by Howard Finkel via a Madison Square Garden-esque microphone, which made it feel like a big deal. Even the referee, Charles Robinson, was dressed up with a blue collared dress shirt and bow tie. The iconic match started with Edge attempting trying to outwrestle his opponent, but The Viper outsmarted him at every turn. Edge delivered a kick to Orton on the outside to gain some advantage. ‘The Master Manipulator’ utilized Orton’s weakened shoulder to keep him locked in a headlock, slowing down his opponent’s attack.

Orton tried to hit a superplex on the outside, but Edge hit a flying clothesline, and The Viper started to bleed. It’s been all Edge so far in this match as he locked in a crossface on his friend-turned-rival. Orton turned things around with a nasty modified neckbreaker that sent Edge gasping for air. The Viper kept the punishment going as he slung his opponent into the pixie glass, barricade, announce table, and even the steel steps neck first. The Viper slowed everything down with a stiff sleeper hold, keeping Edge on the mat.

In the third quarter both superstars started pulling out tricks, including the late great Eddie Guerrero’s Three Amigos suplexes. While the assault continued, Orton hit a massive Superplex off the top rope for a solid two-count. The Viper tried to take advantage of his rival’s neck with a super-draping DDT, but Edge countered with an Edge-E-Cution for another two count. After a modified chokehold, Orton hit an Angle Slam to give him some reprieve.

The Viper dumped Edge to the outside and was able to capitalize with his patented draping DDT. The Master Manipulator hit Edge-O-Matic for a near fall. Edge wanted a spear but instead managed to hit Christian, his long-time tag team partner’s, signature move, the Unprettier, for a two count. The Viper bounced back and hit a Pedigree, paying homage to Orton’s former Evolution leader HHH. Edge then hit a Rock Bottom! After several unique pinfall attempts by Edge, The Viper struck with an RKO for a 2.99 count.

The finishing minutes of this classic match saw Orton going for a punt kick, and Edge hit two devastating spears for a solid two count! He went up for a flying attack, and Orton caught his rival into an RKO for yet another near fall. Edge locked in the Anti-Venom submission, but The Viper hit a low blow followed by a vicious Punt for the three-count!

Was this the greatest wrestling match ever… No, not really. This was a solid match, though, as both superstars tried to utilize everything in their playbooks and even some homages to the greats of WWE. I think at this point of COVID, WWE was trying to use any taglines or unique creativity to produce great wrestling content. Edge unfortunately suffered a torn triceps injury that would keep him out of the ring until the 2021 Royal Rumble. The Viper would go on to become WWE Champion once again later that year!

24 Years Of The Viper: Randy Orton Hits 24 Years In WWE

Chris King takes a look back at some of the most iconic feuds of Randy Orton and his 24 years in WWE.

Randy Orton The Viper 24 Years in WWE

Chris King takes a look back at some of the most iconic feuds of Randy Orton and his 24 years in WWE.

Twenty-four years ago, Randy Orton made his debut on the April 25th episode of Friday Night SmackDown against the veteran Hardcore Holly. ‘The Viper’ has had a decorated career in WWE: grand slam champion, a fourteen-time world champion, two-time Royal Rumble winner, former Money in the Bank, and multi-time tag team champion. Here are some of Orton’s most iconic feuds in WWE.

Randy Orton vs. Mick Foley

The ‘Legend Killer’ was so disrespectful to Mick Foley by verbally abusing him and spitting at him. Foley retired in 2093 but made his shocking return at the 2004 Royal Rumble, eliminating Orton. The two superstars would begin a heated rivalry at WrestleMania XX, where Evolution (Randy Orton, Batista, and Ric Flair) would face off in a six-man tag team match against The Rock and Mick Foley. Orton’s victory would continue his ascension through the WWE, but it also continued his feud with Foley. Foley would take Orton to hell with him at the 2004 Backlash PLE.

Both superstars would have a No Holds Barred Falls Count Anywhere match, which Orton himself considers one of his favorite matches of his career.

The legend helped solidify Orton as a top heel in the company, where people had some misconceptions that a pretty boy couldn’t get hardcore and messy against the hardcore legend. Without their iconic feud, perhaps Orton’s greatest achievement may not have happened.

Randy Orton vs. Triple H

Evolution’s leader Triple H had been telling Orton that he was the diamond in the group. Orton was so appreciative of his mentor’s support as he challenged Chris Benoit at the 2004 SummerSlam PLE. Orton would shock the world by becoming the youngest world champion in WWE history. The very next night after a successful defense, Evolution came out to celebrate with him. With Orton on Batista’s shoulders, his world turned upside down with the iconic “thumbs down” moment. HHH went from friend to rival in seconds, bloodying up his protege out of pure jealousy and rage. The two would have a mini feud where HHH would take the world title away from Orton.

The rivalry was restarted after ‘The Viper’ hit Vince McMahon (HHH’s father-in-law) with a vicious punt kick after he was about to fire him. Orton, along with his two Legacy stablemates Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase Jr., made it his life’s mission to destroy the McMahons, including

Shane McMahon and HHH’s wife Stephanie McMahon. The Viper blamed IED for his actions, but in reality it was Orton getting his ultimate revenge against his former mentor when he was viciously kicked out of Evolution.

Randy Orton vs. The Undertaker

In 2005, The Legend Killer was looking to do the impossible when he challenged The Undertaker to a match at WrestleMania 21. Orton was young and arrogant and was trying to do everything to break his rival’s undefeated streak at WrestleMania, but The Phenom got the job done. During the match, Orton’s father Bob Orton Jr. tried to help his son win. At SummerSlam, Orton and Undertaker would do battle again; this time, Orton’s dad would be disguised as a fan, and The Legend Killer would get the victory.

At No Mercy, both Ortons would face Undertaker in a casket match. Orton won the contest, and as his rival lay in the casket, they lit it on fire.

A few months later, The Deadman would make his shocking return at the 2005 Survivor Series PLE after Orton was named the sole survivor for his team. Taker rising through the fire and kicking the casket open was one of the coolest moments in WWE history. Orton thought he had the last laugh, but in true Taker fashion, he challenged him to a Hell in the Cell match. Orton with nowhere to hide inside the demonic structure, as The Phenom finally got his revenge.

Randy Orton vs. John Cena

This rivalry was the next generation’s Stone Cold vs. The Rock because it spans throughout the years. Orton vs. Cena was simply both GOATs trying to prove who was at the very top in the company. This storied rivalry began in 2007, when Cena was the WWE Champion and Orton was challenging him at SummerSlam. Cena would retain it, and The Viper struck back, delivering a vicious punt kick to Cena’s father, who was at ringside. They would feud for a few months until Cena got injured and needed surgery.

All throughout 2008, both rivals would go their separate ways until the following year. After Orton’s vengeance was successful at the 2009 Backlash with winning the WWE Championship, his and Cena’s rivalry was restarted. They competed in a series of matches throughout the summer. Their iconic I Quit Match, a 60-minute Ironman Match, will go down in history as one of the greatest of all time. Cena would finally get his comeuppance inside Hell in the Cell by winning the WWE Championship. This would put a pause on their rivalry.

Both superstars would find their way back to each other in 2014, when Orton won the WWE Championship after cashing in his MITB briefcase on Daniel Bryan. The Viper was the focal point of The Authority (Triple H, Randy Orton, and Stephanie McMahon), and Cena once again was the thorn in his side. Cena had won the World Heavyweight Championship, and this was building to a huge title unification ladder match. Both superstars would utilize everything in their arsenal, but Orton handcuffed his rival’s hand to the ring ropes. Cena went crashing through the table, and The Viper claimed both titles.

In 2025, Cena would do the unthinkable and turn heel, which shocked the world. Mr. ‘Never Give Up’ actually gave up on his fans and verbally attacked everyone for wanting to be like him. While the self-proclaimed GOAT was gloating about defeating Cody Rhodes to become a seventeen-time WWE champion, an old rival snuck up behind him and gave him an RKO! The two longtime rivals would face off one final time at Backlash inside Orton’s hometown. Their match wasn’t incredible because Cena was still trying to find his footing as a top heel. Cena would retain the title, and sadly, this is how one of the greatest rivalries in WWE history ended.
