Andrew’s IMAPCT Results & Match Ratings: 6.9.2022

So we know the main event should be pretty damn good. The big guns of Honor No More, against 3 beloved TNA originals. So can the Frontline hold the line against another group of invaders?

Aside from that, there’s unfinished business with the Knockouts Tag situation, PCO and Maclin seem to have issues and if I remember correctly we’ll get to see Joe Doering in action tonight! All in all, lots of good stuff 10 days away from that IMPACT summer birthday party!

It’s finally here, the intro that most of us know and love, that was prominent in the Spike TV days.

It’s time to Cross the Line!

Cross the line.

Tenille Dashwood w/Madison Rayne vs Rosemary

Madison tries to jaw early, but Rosemary ignores her and starts beating the hell out of Tenille. Madison tries again after Rosemary throws Tenille across with ring with an Exploder Suplex. Tenille finally has the opening to take advantage of things and we see Tenille start to put some things together.

It’s not until a Full Nelson spot where Rosemary can fight back, drive Tenille into the buckles and they both struggle to get up after Rosemary breaks the hold. Rosemary gets up and throws a few elbows, splash in the corner, tosses Tenille into the middle and floats over with an Inverted Chinlock. Madison tries to get involved on the apron, Rosemary drives Tenille into Madison, Double Leg Clutch pinfall, and Rosemary wins!

Madison attacks right after the pinfall, Taya makes the save and we see Rosey and Taya stand tall after clearing the ring. The crowd chants “Hug it Out”, but Rosemary doesn’t seem sold on a Ragnarok reunion.

Steve Maclin vs PCO

PCO lays into Maclin early including a Spear through the ropes where Maclin crashes and PCO crashes face first, before getting back up to hit the Senton through the ropes. PCO tries to end it early with a PCO-Sault, but Maclin cuts him off, PCO crashes to the outside and then Maclin hits his Scud Missile dive before driving PCO into the ramp.

After the commercial we see Maclin working over the right shoulder more and more before PCO takes an Irish Whip but reverses his momentum and drops Maclin. Strike trade after PCO climbs to the top rope, Superplex from Maclin, but only 2. PCO fires up, both throw some Forearms and then PCO rolls him over from corner to corner before a Spike DDT sets things up for a Cannonball in the corner. Maclin powders halfway to the apron, and PCO calls for the De-animator and hits it!

PCO plays to the crowd for a while as Maclin is laid against the steps. PCO tries to Senton through Maclin again, but Maclin moves. Somehow, PCO is always the first up, charges and Maclin lands the Back Body Drop before breaking the ref count. Tree of Woe set up on the guardrail and Maclin lands Caught in the Crosshairs! Maclin takes the right arm, wedges it behind the steps and kicks the steps into PCO’s shoulder as PCO drops his straps, shows a Shoulder Blade or Shoulder itselfs is out of position and he’s bloody as hell, fights off the doctors, gets back into the ring but Maclin lands a DDT on a steel chair for the pinfall!

Matt Morgan, the real Blueprint, has an interview with Gia backstage. Now Matt Morgan is someone I’d really like to see come back in one of the 2 OG spots, but Tom claims he’s not an active wrestler so he’s not eligible.

Violent by Design (Joe Doering w/Eric Young & Deaner) vs Josh Alexander

Big Joe hasn’t been pinned or submitted in his tenure with IMPACT, but I also think this is only his sixth(?) singles match since coming back. So will the former 2 time Triple Crown Champion upset the current Impact World Champion?

Josh is fighting from underneath most of the time, catches Joe, wrestles him down, hits a nice punt kick but then the numbers start to be felt. Deaner swipes the feet to stop Josh’s momentum, they both run the ropes and Joe hits the Fun Splash, and continues to brutalize Josh. Joe keeps the haymakers coming, but Josh tries to bounce through the pain, manages to catch Joe while he’s charging with a boot to the face. Joe doubles over, Josh hits the King Kong Knee on the back of Doering’s head and starts his comeback. Josh is rolling, grabs the old Rebound German Suplex, keeps the offense coming until Deaner distracts the referee and EY hands Joe the flag. Josh takes the flag from Joe, the referee turns to catch Josh hitting Joe with the flag.

A solid match to wet the appetite for a championship match in the future, hopefully. Joe is great, still worked a damn good match with the finish that protects everyone involved. Nice work.

Alex Zayne gets added to the Ultimate X Match after the Super Juniors fallout.

We get the vignette of Sami attacking Moose with some cool kinda SAW-esque twist. Then Cardona is apparently injured, so he nominates Brian Myers as the true Digital Media Champion to take on Rich Swann at Slammiversary.

Motor City Time Machine (Frankie Kazarian, Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin) vs Honor No More (Matt Taven, Mike Bennett & Eddie Edwards)

Alex and Mike start things off, and its some simple chain wrestling into a Collar and Elbow tie up that drives Alex into the HNM corner. Turnabout being fair play, Alex fires out, throws Mike into the OG corner and they get a few shots in. Sabin takes a legit tag, but Mike gets out fairly quickly and tags in Taven. Taven connects nicely with the Dropkick, Sabin slides through, Kaz with the blind tag a little tandem low into Kaz hitting the Wheelbarrow Neckbreaker, then into a Springing Russian Leg Sweep. Next we get locomotion tags/arm breaker variants from the OG squad. Tandem Half Crap, Camel Clutch, Sliding Drop Kick. Then some quick offense on Mike Bennett punctuated by a Guillotine Leg Drop from Kaz and a pose into the commercial break.

Shelley gets a little too cocky, tries to put Eddie through the ringer on his side of the ring. So Bennet and Taven make him pay after a nice tandem springboard into the Shot of Caffeine. So Honor No More gets to work over Kaz, and then a  few locomotion moves on Shelley. HNM feeds into the corner, Shelley dumps Taven and Edwards over, Snake Eyes Bennett and tries for the tag. But right before Shelley makes the contact on the tag, Taven and Edwards knock the OG wrestlers off the apron, immaculate timing.

HNM crew keeps Shelley absorbing offense. Shelley eats a little bit of everything before dropping Bennett, but Bennett tags Taven, Taven dives into the corner to wipe out the OG wrestlers, Shelley Dragon Screws Taven and goes for the tag, but there’s no one. Edwards and Shelley exchange a little until there’s some miscommunication with HNM so Shelley can get Kaz in. Kaz house of fire style, taking everyone out. Northern Lights Double Leg Clutch pinfall attempt on Taven and Edwards by Kaz before they kick out and Sabin comes in.

Tornado DDT attempt on Eddie, but Taven ducks the kick off, Shelley Superkicks Taven, Tornado on Edwards, only a 2. Cutter on Bennett, High Speed Dirt on Edwards and then the Five Hole Dive, before Taven hits the Triangle kick rocking Shelley, some big dive spots on the outside before Bennett spears Kaz and OGK tries to soften up Sabin so Eddie can pout him away. Tiger Driver + Just the Tip combo, but Sabin kicks out. Gamengiri, Missile Dropkick Assisted Flatliner on Eddie, but he kicks out at 2!

Sliding Drop Kick, Wrecking Ball Dropkick, Hesitation Dropkick on Edwards, Tornado DDT from the turnbuckles, and another 2 count because Taven makes the save. Taven hits The Climax on Shelley, Kaz hits Slingshot Cutter on Taven, Clothesline from Hell, Michigan to Bennett, Cradle Shock attempt, but a Low Blow from Bennett to Sabin, gives Eddie the opening for the Die Hard Driver and the win!

Heath comes in for the save and he…actually looks great. Takes out the HNM members, Sabu’s Eddie Edwards with the thrown chair, Wake Up Call and Heath wants to break Eddie Edwards’ ankle! Vincent and Kenny King come down to give Honor No More the advantage again. So they do to Heath, what they did to Rhino.

Overall Score: 7.75/10

So honestly the last about half hour of the show was really fantastic. The Moose/Sami vignette, Brian Myers & Matt Cardona skit and of course the main event was damn good. I’m hoping what that did was give Heath a small revenge angle, but the “chair attack on the ankle” takes him out of direct running for the Slammiversary team. I like Heath, don’t get this twisted. But IMPACT/TNA has been around 20 years. It would be nice if they pulled out at least one name from the depths of the past that we haven’t seen in the last few years or that isn’t on AEW.

Also it can’t be overshadowed but the Good Brothers and Briscoes farm skit was great. The Boneryard references made it feel like a Talk ‘N’ Shop segment as well as some funny jabs at their best friend who’s still in WWE. This struck a lot of correct chords with me, where if I wasn’t already going to watch Slammiversary, now I’m fairly sold. If they can somehow manage a segment with Jeff Jarrett next week, that would be the icing on the cake for me.

The cockroach that won’t die, and everyone thought was dead a decade ago…is celebrating 20 years. Funny…ain’t it?
