Eddie Kingston speaks.

It was just after his match at WrestleDream, and he asks, “Whaddya want, Jean Carlo? I just been through a war with Shibata. And we did it all to the spirit of Antonio Inoki. Tried to lay it out there, and tried to do it Japanese style. I’m trying to learn and still learning, but respect greatly, so I’m trying to bring it here to America. And whether people like it or not, this is what I love, and that’s the style I love. And being able to share that with Shibata was something special. I respect that man, I team up with that man, I have nothing but… I got mad love for ya.

“What’s next? I dunno, Lethal popped off. Stokely’s poppin’ off. Look, I guess that’s the problem with being a champion. I don’t know, Jean Carlo, I just wanna go eat some of the… They got that Snickers joint. The Snickers peanut butter pie down in catering. That’s all I wanna do, bro. Then I’ll worry about sauna and all that stuff after to look like a wrestler. Still double champ, though.” The Mad King is ready to celebrate his way, but who will step to his throne next?

ROH Women’s World Championship: Athena w/ Billie Starkz VS Leyla Hirsch!

The Fallen Goddess doesn’t think her Minion is “getting it.” There is no mercy or compassion when it comes to dominating the top of the mountain! Will Athena make sure that message is loud and clear? Or will there be a LEGIT champion in ROH?

The introductions are made, the belt is raised, and we see who gets their point across!

The Code of Honor is upheld but barely, and the bell rings. Fans rally and the two circle while fans like Billie’s Seattle Seahawks colored Minion In Training shirt. Athena continues to show no mercy or respect, and Billie tells her to stop before going further. Athena thinks about it, and rolls her eyes as she actually spares Leyla! Billie smiles and heads out with the Overlord. Will anyone ever stop Athena’s reign of terror? But then Maria Kanellis-Bennett walks out on stage. And she gives Leyla the “I told you so.” Leyla earned the opportunity, but will she need The First Lady of Wrestling to help her win the title?

Backstage interview with Christopher Daniels and Rocky Romero.

Lexi Nair is with The Fallen Angel and Azucar, both men with rich history in ROH. They’ve both held titles at one point, but tonight is the first time these two have actually faced each other in an ROH match. Rocky says he has nothing but respect for CD, and because of their match at the Super 8 years ago, Rocky got his opportunity to be in ROH, which helped him become a three-time ROH World Tag Team Champion. Daniels appreciates that, and he has followed Rocky’s career. Former ROH World Tag Team Champion. Former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champion. Current CMLL Welterweight Champion. One of the best in the world.

But if Daniels can win, he gets back on the championship track. Both men are going to bring their very best tonight, so may the best man win. Rocky says that sounds good. Daniels will bring the salsa, but Rocky brings the sugar. Well, Daniels knows a thing or two about spice. Who will be the one that gets hot tonight in Seattle?

Josh Woods w/ Mark Sterling VS Tyler Payne!

The Technical Beast is on a winning streak, still building his case for one more shot at Katsuyori Shibata and the ROH Pure Championship. Will Woods still have the goods? Or will he simply feel the Payne?

The Code of Honor is upheld, the bell rings, and the two circle. Woods says Payne gets a free shot, so Payne headlocks. Woods slips right out to snapmare, and then he fakes the Penalty Kick to pat Payne on the head. Payne gets mad but Woods offers him a leg. Payne goes for it, but Woods stays up as Payne tries to hit the takedown. Woods gut wrenches Payne off the leg to then gut wrench suplex Payne all the way to a corner! Fans are torn, but then Woods runs in and Payne ELBOWS him! And SWING KICKS! And slingshots to kick and moonsault up and over! Woods whips Payne, Payne holds ropes and BOOTS back!

Payne swings, Woods ducks the elbow and he puts Payne in the ropes, to KICK, BACKBREAKER, and GERMAN SUPLEX! Fans fire up and Woods looms over Payne. Woods drags Payne up, reels him in, suplex for TILT-O-WOODS! Cover, Woods wins!

Winner: Josh Woods, by pinfall

No strikes to the face, no ropebreaks needed, and not even a bead of sweat. Woods still shows respect to Payne with the Code of Honor, but will Woods get his second shot at Shibata?

Christopher Daniels VS Rocky Romero!

We just heard from the Fallen Angel and Azucar, and now they will put words to action! Who will be the better man here tonight, also aimed for title opportunities?

Rocky gets moving again, SHIRANUI!! Cover, ROCKY WINS!

Winner: Rocky Romero, by pinfall

Daniels wanted to get back on track towards a championship against a champion, but Rocky stops him before he gets started! But at least they both show respect with the Code of Honor. Will the Fallen Angel ever rise to former glory? Will Rocky look to add another championship to his collection in the near future?

Backstage interview with Dalton Castle.

Lexi is with The Peacock as he seems to be rather stressed out. He is feeling the pressure of the fans? Yes… Not just the fans. Everything! His heart’s been racing, he has no time to himself, he couldn’t even put together a proper ensemble! Look at this! A white tee and jeans? He’s a blank canvas! His heart’s racing 12 million miles a minute. That’s the fastest you can go, by the way. Lexi isn’t sure about that but okay. Well feel it. Feel his heart. You feel that? Yeah. Does he have any plans to combat this stress? Yes, he has to give the people what they want. And what is that? Castle knows that when he is on screen, the ratings spike, the viewers are happier, and TV is just better!

So Castle has to find a way to be on screen more. Give the people what they want! Give them what they deserve! Oh, but where does that begin? Certainly not with this shirt! Not this shirt! Castle heads out and Lexi isn’t sure what’s going on, but will Castle find his way to be the star of ROH programming?

Six Woman Tag: Willow Nightingale, Kiera Hogan & Skye Blue VS Lady Frost & The Renegades!

Three women united mostly against Julia Hart also have common enemies in the Coolest Wrestler and the meanest twins, Charlette & Robyn. Will the Babe with the Power, the Hottest Flame and Chicago Skye be a force to be reckoned with? Or will their one win together be their one win together?

There’s plenty of battles in the war, and they plan on getting back on their winning ways. And Carlie says what better way to do that than to go against a team like Tizzle Mizzle Dizzle Kizzle, The Mighty Don’t Kneel. Two men known all around the world for whooping ass and winning wars.

But wait, wait, wait, do you know who else is known for that? The Infantry! And speaking of, Trish has her match with Billie, and you already know Trish don’t miss. So you can get with this, or you can get with that. Trish says have no fear, the Infantry is still here. Copy that. Ctrl + C! He looked into national statistics, and has found exactly why Seattle is at the top of the obesity levels in America. It is because of one thing: carbs are the enemy! Nese holds up a loaf of white bread as Sterling says they are waging war on bread, and anyone that likes it! AKA Kojima. Lexi says good luck with that… Will Nese take down the leader of Bread Club? Or will he regret going against the grain?

TMDK w/ Bad Dude Tito VS The Infantry!

So what if Shane Haste, Mikey Nicholls, and their buddy, Bad Dude Tito, didn’t win the AEW World Trios Championships at WrestleDream? The Mighty Don’t Kneel, and they don’t stop fighting! Backstage interview with Ethan Page.

Lexi is with All Ego as he has his fourth win. He is getting people talking, taking notice, including ROH World Champion, Eddie Kingston. Is that so? Eddie is watching Ethan? Good! Ethan hopes everyone in ROH is watching, because Ethan is watching everyone in ROH. From day one, he said he wanted competition, and every single week, ROH has delivered that to Ethan tenfold! And so if Eddie is watching, Ethan asks he pay close attention. Ethan is switching it up every single week, and his confidence grows every single week. The ego is refilling, so when Ethan gets to 100%, he’s ready for Eddie at any time.

In fact, that also goes for everyone in ROH. Next week, Ethan is looking for his fifth win in a row. Will the streak continue on until we see All Ego go for the Mad King’s crown?

Tony Nese w/ Mark Sterling VS Satoshi Kojima!

We heard from the Premier Athlete and Smart Mark earlier, but Smart Mark has the mic to cut Bobby Cruise off and tells everyone that his client has something to say. Nese tells Seattle that the last time he was here, he was wiping the floor with their hometown hero. Yeah, boo, he’s overrated, Nese agrees. But Nese has good news for them. Nese is here today on a different mission. Nese is here because he wants to help every single one of them to stop being fat, disgusting, out-of-shape, pathetic losers! Fans boo but Nese says he’ll start with a lesson. Each and every one here needs to lay off the carbs!

For example, Exhibit A: bread! Who here likes bread? The fans all cheer! That’s Nese’s point. That is why they are all sitting there while he stands here looking like a million bucks. But wait! Here comes Kojima! Fans fire up for the leader of Bread Club! But Nese still wants to talk! He asks Kojima what his problem is, and Kojima asks to speak. Nese holds up the mic to him, and he says, “I. Love. Bread.” Fans cheer and Nese is upset. Nese says everyone can calm down. We can all tell Kojima likes bread. But Nese is in a good mood tonight. If Kojima likes bread, Nese will give him a gift. Nese drops the loaf, to STOMP it?!

Athena speaks.

“Here we are once again. Minion Training Session 2. It’s like Minion Training 1, but only harder.” Lexi showed promise but Billie… Athena blows the whistle and tells them to turn around to go down the stairs now. “Billie still sucks.” Billie and Lexi catch their breath but they feel like throwing up. Athena tells them to keep going! They then do squats and Athena says she designed this program for “Minion Empowerment.” She doesn’t just do it all herself. She listens to others, takes advice from others and… that makes Billie laugh, which Athena hears and frowns at.

Lexi says Athena is great. She’s kind, understanding, passionate, patient. You can’t say a bad word about her. Billie isn’t so sure about that, and then Athena CLOBBERS a ROH staffer just for bumping into her! Billie wonders what that makes Athena to them. A mentor, of course. Oh, right, of course. Athena shouts at refs on sight, though… Bobby Cruise helps Billie & Lexi announce Athena’s name with some oomph, and Billie says it is surprising Lexi came in with this with no experience and is just killing it. Athena’s tough, but Billie’s glad she has Lexi with her. Lexi says it is disappointing that Billie is just sloppy and has bad cardio.

Athena says this concludes session number two. Lexi passes with flying colors. Billie… still sucks. But for that, she gets one more very special task, as punishment. She has to prank Tony Khan!? Johnson shoves free, Darius turns the dropdown into a kickflip and BIG back suplex! Fans fire up while both men are down! The ref starts a standing count while both men stir. Karter took his eye off the ball, and that allowed Bad Boy Shaney T. to knock it out the park! Will STP finally have those ROH World Tag Team Championships? Or will MJF stay strong for his brochacho?

Abrahantes celebrates with his stable! Combine this with Rey Fenix being AEW International Champion, is lucha libre going to take over the world?

My Thoughts:

A good episode of ROH, but it was over two hours. I can’t keep doing these if they’re not going to be consistent in length. Also, the match order kinda didn’t make sense, which is sadly how ROH just is, apparently. The women’s title opening, and we still have Athena doing a vignette with Billie and Lexi? The title match was awesome stuff, and the vignette was hilarious, but it just feels like the order was backwards. Give us the vignette first, then Billie’s match, then Athena VS Leyla in the main event because that has a title and story all in it. Not that the Six Man Tag main event wasn’t a lot of fun, but it didn’t have story. Story based main event is superior to fun filler main event.

Really good Fatal 4 Way Tag, but I figured Shane & Moriarty were going to win after they also were watching Johnson. Johnson VS Darius was also a great match, and Darius winning made sense, too. Johnson might get to the point where he actually joins up with Shane Taylor Promotions after seeing Shane & Moriarty get ahead. Ethan Page of course wins against Khash, but I was surprised he called out Eddie Kingston. The sad thing is, as I just said last night for Dynamite, more ROH stuff gets done on AEW programming than on ROH TV, because Johnny TV, Komander, Pentagon and Lince Dorado are the contender’s match on Rampage, no Ethan to be found.

And then, while the other matches were a lot of fun, they were a lot of filler, too. Woods gets another win to build towards the Pure Championship, but also kinda biding time. Daniels VS Rocky was a roundabout way to add to Daniels’ story, I guess. TMDK gets a great match and great win off Infantry, but I don’t want AEW/ROH dragging in more NJPW people when they can’t even use their AEW/ROH people all that well. If TMDK is gonna be stateside, they should just be in NJPW Strong. Kojima and Nese had a really fun segment, especially with Seattle enjoying the bread stuff. ROH was recorded on the same night as Collision, so this explains why Seattle was so ready for bread on Sunday. Great win for Kojima off Nese, though this might’ve just been for the fitness trend of hating on bread.

The Six Woman Tag was to keep Willow, Kiera & Skye strong, and I’m curious to see what happens with how Willow and Skye were both misted. And when the House of Black mists you, something happens to you, aka a Heel turn. It’s what happened to Julia Hart, so maybe it happens to Skye? Skye seemed gloomier than Willow, so it should be Skye turning to stay fresh, and then Willow is the one with a strong enough optimism to stay away from the House of Black.

My Score: 8.5/10

Slammiversary Fallout! Where do things go on the way to Victory Road?

Published

on

Well now we start the fall out of Slammiversary. Josh Alexander in his bad bitch summer, X-Speedball legacy, ABC got the t-a-g and Jordynne is still in charge of the Knockouts division. Like I said at the end of Slammiversary, all of the champions being Babyfaces is stupid. They need to drop a couple titles fairly quickly, because I don’t care what some people say, Nic Nemeth ain’t gonna bring any eyes to the brand. He’s about as hot as day old Hamburger Helper over a camping sterno.

We’ll probably open with the luke warm champion, so tune in like 10 minutes late for anything of substance to be happen.

https://x.com/i/status/1816629254349533588

Ratings:

  • Steve Maclin vs Cody Deaner: Maclin wins via KIA – *
  • AJ Francis w/Rich Swann & Josh Bishop vs Sami Callihan: AJ wins via Down Payment – **
  • Hammer Your ASH (ASH by Elegance & Alexander Hammerstone) vs JuggerYoung (Jordynne Grace & Eric Young): Hammer Your ASH wins via Torture Rack – ** 1/2
  • The System (Eddie Edwards, Brian Myers & JDC) w/Alisha Edwards vs Matt Hardy & The ABC (Ace Austin & Chris Bey): Broken Alphabet wins via Twist & Splash – ***

Results:

Nemeth gives the ole “I’ll be a fighting champion…blah blah” promo and drops the “any company” line that we’ve already understood what that means. Campaign Singh cuts him off…and I never thought I’d be happy for Campaign Singh to walk out and say anything…ever. And…Mustafa’s promo is worse than Dolph’s. He’s gone from parody to caricature even saying “it was the biggest screw job Montreal ever saw”. Like some of these lines are cheap heat, but most are just brain dead comments that wouldn’t get a reaction out of anyone (and the crowd was silent for that comment). Mustafa gets caught in an Archer “phrasing” moment about getting screwed hard, but this is painful. Promos written by 14 year olds everyone…

This ends with Ali challenging Nemeth for the World Title. While I’m not against walk up challenges, I watch Japanese wrestling, I don’t really get the point aside from doing it just to do it.

ABC and Matt Hardy have a small promo, and I’m still not really a fan of Unbroken Matt Version 6.0. The floating between Broken voice and his normal voice sounds amateurish.

OH LOOK, finally a match 20 minutes into the show. And it’s my son Steve Maclin! OH CHRIST he’s facing Deaner. This has been 25 minutes of talking followed by the worst god damn attempt at a gimmick. Deaner’s little “Papa Santino told me I can wipe my ass only if the crowd agrees”. This gimmick should die in a fire.

Steve Maclin vs Cody Deaner

Deaner started off quick because Maclin was in disbelief that Deaner was actually gonna fight him. Maclin dodges a Crossbody, Busaiku Knee, and just starts beating on Deaner for fun. And this is fun, maybe Maclin can make sure Deaner gets stretchered out and written off forever. How do you call for an ambulance in French? Maclin with the old Back Breaker into a stretch. Deaner tries to nerd rage up, breaks the Back Breaker Stretch, his punch combo, into a Manhattan Drop and Bulldog. Deaner hits the Crossbody, but Maclin kicks out. This is entirely too competitive.

Deaner goes for the Deaner DDT, blocked, Olympic Slam into Splashing Deaner into the corner, Caught in the Crosshairs, K-I-A, thanks for coming you damn dweeb. Stay in Canada and don’t travel Deaner, please.

https://x.com/i/status/1816633784537874761

AJ Francis w/Rich Swann & Josh Bishop vs Sami Callihan

As the bell sounds, Sami knocks Rich off the apron, Low Bridges AJ, does the Beats of the Bodhran on AJ and then AJ eats the offense and strategizes with his crew. Bishop and Rich swarm the ring, Sami allows himself to get distracted so AJ slides in and starts beating on Sami. AJ throats Sami across the middle rope and Rich makes his presence felt, AJ distracts the referee and Rich gets in a lot of cheap shots. Bishop throws Sami back in the ring, and AJ keeps up the pressure. Lots of 5 count chokes and leverage moves. After the commercial break ends, Sami dodges a Tennessee Whiskey Knee, gets in a few shots before Rich trips Sami as he’s setting up a Dive, and then AJ takes advantage of the position and hits the goofball knee strike.

AJ calls for his Chokeslam, Sami tries to break it with Axe Handles, then claws the eyes. Sami goes for a Scoop Slam, gets him part way up and then falls over. AJ Chokeslam again, but he bites his hand and starts fighting back. Launches himself at AJ, sends him bouncing off the ropes and uses the momentum to hit that Scoop Slam that was teased earlier. Sami goes for a Western Lariat but eats a Big Boot. AJ does a little Hulk Hogan pose to signal a Leg Drop, but Sami dodges and then connects on a Sliding Lariat. Thumbs Up, Thumbs….interference. Rich distracts the ref, Bishop lays out Sami, AJ connects with the Down Payment.

Hammer Your ASH (ASH by Elegance & Alexander Hammerstone) vs JuggerYoung (Jordynne Grace & Eric Young)

ASH and Jordynne exchange slaps and then Jordynne starts to out muscle ASH. Spinebuster from Jordynne, Juggernaut Driver attempt, but ASH fights off, rope run, Sattelite DDT into both tagging out. EY does the Flair corner flop, slides back in between Hammer’s legs, and connects on a Neckbreaker. EY is the quicker of the two, but Hammer finally gets his hands on him and a Release Belly to Belly into a full mount raining of fists, then a near fall. Hammer smashes EY in a corner, Arm Wringer into an Irish Whip across, but EY moves and Hammer tags out to ASH. ASH levels Jordynne, peppers EY with a few shots and pulls him back to their corner and starts some tandem offense with Hammerman. Hammer Guerilla Presses ASH and throws her into EY for a near fall. Hammer looks to aim for either a Powerbomb or Nightmare Pendulum, but EY drops it into a Small Package, pinfall kick out, they both run, Double Lariat spot. The Knockouts get tagged in.

Jordynne is in control early, World’s Strongest Slam into a Vader Bomb. Juggernaut Driver attempt, but ASH fights it off and tags out to Hammer. Jordynne and EY do some schoolyard stuff with the old Push while Jordynne is down to trip Hammer. All four get in, ASH gets leveled, EY gets leveled, Hammer and Jordynne have a brief face off, but Hammer throws Jordynne to the apron and ASH connects with a Meteora from the apron. Death Valley Driver from Young on Hammer, ASH stares in shock, EY tells her to get, ASH runs away. EY goes up for his Macho Elbow, and ASH causes him to fall to Hammer’s feet, Torture Rack, and EY submits.

Josh Alexander comes out, with new heel music. And it’s not that bad, definitely better than some other people’s new music. Josh yells at the crowd a bit, says he can’t wait til he’s back in a real Canadian town, like his home of Toronto. Then he drops the mic in lieu of an explanation. The crowd chants him off with the “Nah Nah Nah Nah, Hey Hey Hey”.

The System (Eddie Edwards, Brian Myers & JDC) w/Alisha Edwards vs Matt Hardy & The ABC (Ace Austin & Chris Bey)

JDC and Hardy start, but JDC quickly tags out to Myers and that doesn’t go well. Hardy grabs a hold of Myers, a few Delete chops, drags him to his corner and they all get in a few shots punctuated with Hardy getting tagged back in and an Elbow into Myers’ extended and worked on left arm. Myers stays isolated, back into the corner, Boot to the gut, Ace tags in and wallops Myers. Ace connects on Double Kicks, into Russian Leg Sweep and his half of Click Click Boom, for a 2 count. Myers finally gets free with a Jaw Breaker and tags out to Eddie. But The System gets no momentum, Ace stifles Eddie’s offense and starts a few quick tags with him and Bey for tandem offense. Moose finally comes down the ramp as Eddie kicked out of yet another pinfall attempt because The System has had nothing going for them. Eddie finally gets some offense since Moose was a big enough distraction.

Eddie thinks they have a spot, so he tags back in JDC, but The ABC stop him cold, tag in Matt Hardy, and Matt walks down JDC, but JDC Low Bridges. Matt is on the outside, so all of The System surrounds Hardy, then Joe Hendry’s music hits! That stops the heel beatdown, and we follow Hendry’s entire entrance. So that proves Hendry is bigger than the 8 other people in this frame. Not really sure if that’s optics you want to push along. Ace and JDC try to remind people there’s wrestling going on, but JDC thumbs the eye to get a little something going. Vertical Suplex for a near fall, tag out for Eddie and Eddie lights up Ace with some of those NOAH Chops. Ace retreats to the ropes and Alisha chokes him with the ropes while the ref is distracted.

Myers gets tagged in, Ace tries to use the crowd energy, Myers stops it at first but then Ace slips a Scoop Slam and tags out to Bey. Hot tag, strike rush, Double Stomp, educated feet, Leap Frog to the corner but Lish climbs on the apron and yells at Bey which stops his rhythm. Myers kicks his feet out and causes Bey to crash. Eddie tags in for a few shots, then to JDC and Slingshot Knees, Wringer Snapmare, Bow and Arrow Submission, and JDC is just doing solid wrestling work right now. Uppercut between the Shoulder Blades as Bey tries to get out, tag to Myers and Bey is still eating offense. Eddie tags in, Bey tries the Sunset Flip, but Eddie tags out before going over, so Myers folds up Bey for a near fall and then tags out to JDC who connects on a Standing Suplex, slams Bey’s face into the corner, Eddie tags in, and Bey finally fights up to his feet, Eddie just flatten Bey’s comeback, tries a Tiger Driver but eats an Enzuigiri for a simultaneous tag. JDC and Hardy come in, JDC tries to exit halfway in, but Hardy is wrecking shop. He disposes of Eddie, Myers slides in but eats a tandem Neckbreaker/DDT from Hardy. Face team does the Delete Corner Face Smashes. Poetry in Motion into a Side Effect into Corkscrew Swanton for only 2 since Myers breaks it up! Everyone throwing hands, referee is distracted, Moose comes in to Spear Hardy, but Hardy dodges and throws him into JDC (I get the call back), Hendry then lays out Moose with the big Lariat. Twist of Fate from Hardy, Splash from Bey, Broken Alphabet wins!

Overall Score: 4/10

Ugh, cliche promos, too damn much talking, a competitive squash match with an imbecile as our first “match”, into an overbooked and slow heel match, finally a decent tag match (with the right team going over), into another overbooked match with a “tease” for the mystery backup being more obvious than Jericho’s WWF debut.

Aside from the afore mentioned tag match, The Rascalz promo and The System Promo; this was hard to watch. A lot of cornball promos, Rosemary licks her conspiracy board, storylines got zero traction. Whoopity Doo, Ryan Nemeth got a match next week and we get an undead wedding.

While this was a bad episode, it was bad by at least new standards. We’re not back in the TNA Dark Days again, but this was…a useless show.
