PLAY BY PLAY

Becky Lynch is here!

Fans fire up as she is still NXT Women’s Champion! And she gets the mic to say, “The Man has come around to N BEX T!” Fans echo that and Becky says she is still N BEX T Women’s Champion! “But, but, but, after a brutal Extreme Rules match at No Mercy, The Man is not medically cleared to compete. But but but I made sure Tiffany Stratton wasn’t either, because we beat the ever lovin’ piss outta each other!” And Becky wouldn’t have it any other way. She wants to give her all every time she defends the title, and expects the same form her opponent, and Tiff did just that.

But Becky did tell us all that when she won this title, she wants to elevate this title to heights it has never seen before. She wants to defend it everywhere she goes, and she’s looking ahead on the calendar. The next big ticket is Halloween Havoc! She has a roadblock ahead of her with Tegan Nox on Raw, but she’s just wondering- Wait! Lyra Valkyria is here! She doesn’t want to interrupt, but she just never had the chance to tell Becky this. June 26th, 2014, Becky’s NXT debut, was the first episode of NXT Lyra ever saw. And she saw an Irish girl in this ring, and Lyra started training that very week.

Becky’s debut actually kick-started Lyra’s career. And so Lyra says the whole world knows Becky is The Man, but does she realize what she’s done for everyone back home? For Irish wrestling? For Lyra herself? Lyra will never forget to be at the biggest Irish wrestling show ever, and before the show even started, they had big ads on screen. A flash of Becky’s face showed up, and a ripple of a roar went across the entire crowd. Does she understand how inspiring that was for someone like Lyra? Fans cheer as Lyra says she was always able to push that bit harder because Becky was here making the impossible seem possible!

Becky from up the road was the first woman to main event WrestleMania! Fans cheer that, too! And all these years later, Lyra’s career finally came full circle when she stood side by side with Becky in the main event of NXT. But as good as standing side by side felt, she’d be lying if she wasn’t wondering how it’d feel to stand face to face. Fans like the sound of that! Lyra isn’t sure if Becky thinks Lyra is ready, but… Becky says the fans think it! But wait, here comes Indi Hartwell? Indi’s back in NXT and fans fire up again! Indi says Becky’s not the only woman who needed to come back to NXT to prove a point.

And what a speech from Lyra! But nowhere in there did she mentioned how she shocked the world by becoming champion at the biggest Stand & Deliver of all time, only to drop the title after being injured and then drafted away. See, Indi never lost what is on Becky’s shoulder. So if Big Time Becks wants to go Mondays and Tuesdays, so can Indi! Because this will always be home for Indi! These people watched her grow up! She got married right here! And now, she’s back for what she never lost. WAIT! Roxanne Perez makes her way out! She tells “The Man” that she truly IS The Man, and she deserves to be. Becky left NXT to become everything everyone said she wouldn’t.

Roxie won’t come out here and rely on her accolades or accomplishments. But a few weeks ago and Becky told Roxie to rest up. Roxie doesn’t want to! Roxie is here to tell Becky that, while she respects her Manias and SummerSlams, that is why she is here to look her in the face to get her title back! And, she’s taking it back. Becky says okay okay okay okay! They all make excellent points. But uh, they can do a little less talking and a lot more fighting! So how about this? Becky will be on commentary, these three entertain her with a Triple Threat, and the winner will face Becky on night one of Halloween Havoc! Welcome to the Big Time!

Becky throws down the mic and the gauntlet, who wins their golden ticket here tonight?

Tyler Bate & Pete Dunne VS Gallus!

The Big Strong Boi backed up the Bruiserweight at No Mercy, but it wasn’t enough because on top of The Meta Four, Wolfgang & the Coffey Brothers had to go and screw them out of the Heritage Cup! Will the former British Strong Style boys get revenge on Wolfie & Markus? Or will it end up being Gallus Boys On Top?

NXT returns as Gallus makes their entrance. The teams sort out, Dunne starts with Mark Coffey, but Joe Coffey gets on the apron! Dunne runs him off but Mark attacks! Fans boo as Mark headlocks and grinds, but Dunne powers up and out. Things speed up, and Dunne hurdles, drops and CLOBBERS Mark! Fans rally, Dunne warns Joe, but then Wolfgang storms up! Mark drags Dunne up, wrenches and whips Dunne hard into the corner, then tags in Wolfgang. Wolfgang digs his boot in more, the ref counts, and Wolfgang lets off. Fans rally but Wolfgang drags Dunne around to a mounted armlock and chinbar. Dunne endures, fans rally, and Dunne fights up to ROCK and CHOP Wolfgang! And CHOP again! Tag to Wolfgang while Bate sputters, and then Wolfgang distracts the ref so Joe can sucker punch Bate! Cover, TWO! Bate is tougher than that but Wolfgang clamps onto Bate with a cobra clutch. Fans rally up for Bate and he stands up. Mark tags in, Wolfgang ripcords but Bate back drops Wolfgang away! Mark storms in but Bate ROLLING KICKS him down! Fans fire up as Bate hurries, duck sunder Wolfgang, hot tag to Dunne! ENZIGURI for Wolfgang! ENZIGURI for Mark!

Another ENZIGURI for Wolfgang! Another ENZIGURI for Mark! GAMANGIRI after GAMANGIRI on Mark in the corner, then a snapmare, to a knee drop on the arm! Fans fire up as Dunne SHINING WIZARDS Mark! Mark goes to the apron and Joe coaches him up, but Dunne has him for BEATS OF THE BODHRAIN! Fans count to TEN, then Dunne speeds up to get to TWENTY! Dunne then CLOBBERS Joe! Fans fire up with Dunne and he gets in the ring. Mark avoids the boot to ENZIGURI in return! Cover, TWO! Dunne is tougher than that, too! But Mark drags Dunne up, only for Dunne to X PLEX!

Tag to Bate and he RUNNING SHOOTING STARS! Wolfgang returns but Bate fireman’s carries! AIRPLANE SPIN!! Fans fire up and count as Bate goes around and around and around, for TEN! Wolfgang wobbles, as does Bate, but Wolfgang falls out of the ring! Dunne goes up the corner, and he ARIHARA MOONSAULTS Wolfgang down! Bate has Mark with underhooks, but Mark back drops free! Bate just hits the REBOUNDER! Tag to Dunne before Bate FLIES to take out Wolfgang! Dunne STOMPS Mark’s hands, BUZZSAWS, and then tags Bate back in. They work together to DOUBLE TIGER BOMB!! Cover, British

Winners: Tyler Bate & Pete Dunne, by pinfall

JOE ATTACKS! The Iron King is a sore loser, and so are his boys! They all beat Bate and Dunne down while fans boo! But wait! Ridge Holland is here! The Brawling Brute CLOBBERS Mark! CLOBBERS Wolfgang! Ridge and Joe brawl, Bate and Dunne DOUBLE DROPKICK Wolfgang and Mark! Ridge then POUNCES Joe out! Will Gallus regret getting on the bad side of these Brawling Brutes?

Ilja Dragunov is here!

The fans fire up as the Mad Dragon, the NEW NXT Champion, makes his way to the ring. Fans chant “You Deserve It!” Dragunov gets a mic to then say, “Ladies and gentlemen… Tonight, you can welcome me as the Mad Dragon! You can welcome me as The Czar! You can welcome me as UN-BE-SIEG-BAR! But especially as your NEW NXT CHAMPION!” Fans cheer that! Dragunov says at No Mercy, Melo brought the fight, and what a fight it was. He pushed Dragunov to places beyond his limits again and again and again. So today, Dragunov stands here in front of you, barely even able to stand. But he stands!

Even in pain, he stands in front of us as your champion, because he promised to fulfill his destiny, and to push this title beyond any level of human energy! Dragunov will turn this title reign into a symbol of incomparable passion, and he will protect his promise with his life! #LongLiveTheCzar! Fans cheer that! But then wait, here comes Trick Williams! Fans chant “Whoop Dat Trick!” for the other new champion from No Mercy. Trick appreciates the love, but he wants everyone to hold on. First thing’s first, congrats to Dragunov for winning the title at No Mercy. Much deserved.

But Trick isn’t here because Ilja won his title. He’s here because someone else won a title at No Mercy. He is here as the NEW NXT North American Champion! Fans cheer that! Trick says with all that said, he must thank Dragunov. For what? Well, back at Heatwave, Dragunov pushed Trick to a whole ‘nother level. So this Trick that everyone sees is cuz of Dragunov. Now Trick has gold. And you best believe he is only going up from here. Dragunov wants Trick to stop right there. Dragunov is proud of Trick. At No Mercy, Trick whooped dat trick! Fans cheer as the two secret handshake! But wait, here comes Carmelo Hayes!

Fans cheer on “MEL~O!” as he has a mic to say hold on. Is he slipping or is that just Ilja? What’s up, Trick? Fans chant “MELO MISSED!” Melo says he appreciates the kind words, and he acknowledges that Dragunov fulfilled destiny. But Trick, why you thanking Ilja? Melos’ been telling Trick that he is championship material! Listen, man! MELO is proud of Trick! Trick Melo Gang came up together in front of all these people! Does he remember that? Listen, man. Winning that title is amazing, tha tis one thing. But defending it is a completely different beast. Trick wants Melo to hold on. Is Trick not ready for Dom?

No, that is not what Melo means! Then what did Melo mean? Dragunov says he doesn’t really care, because it isn’t his business. As far as he can tell, this has been a conversation between champions! And if Melo thinks they’re not done, then find Ilja after he figures this out. Trick says don’t do that. Melo, if you want a rematch with Ilja, Trick respects that. But Trick is ready for his rematch- No, Melo is just trying to say that if Trick is trying to follow in his footsteps, then he needs to focus on Dom. Speaking of… Here comes Dirty Dom Mysterio! And he says, “Trick, Trick Trick.” Fans boo as Dom tells Trick to listen to Melo.

Becuase winning the title and keeping it are two completely different things. Especially when Dom is the one coming for ya! Trick wants everyone to hold on. He was at Raw yesterday. Is Dom always taking orders from Mami? Dom says don’t worry about all that. Dirty Dom is all man! See, that right there is Dom’s problem. Dom is always going on about Mami. Mami says this, Mami says that, Mama-say-mama-sa-mama-coosa! Mama says Trick whoops dat ass! Fans chant “WHOOP DAT TRICK!” but Dom says he promised Rhea he was gonna bring home gold to the Judgment Day! No no no no, Dom. Look, it ain’t happening.

Melo tells Trick to watch out. Dom don’t roll alone. If Judgment Day wants to be startin’ something, then Melo’s got Trick’s back! Just like old times, Melo will be in Trick’s corner. But Dom asks Trick something. “Now that you’re a champion, 6’4″, 240, and you’re still in Melo’s shadow?” Trick tells Melo that they dawgs and he appreciates the offer, but he is gonna decline. Because Trick got the title by himself so he’ll defend it by himself. Tonight, he whoops this trick. Will Trick handle his business? Or will he play right into Judgment Day’s hands?

Bron Breakker finds Melo backstage.

Melo is in no mood as Bron asks what’s up. Bron says it is a sucky feeling, huh? No, Trick’s go this. Aw c’mon, cut the crap! Bron’s the only one who knows how Melo feels right now. He knows how it is to lose the NXT Championship on the biggest stage. Yeah, that’s true. Melo lost on Saturday, and they immediately start chanting for Ilja. No more “He is Him.” Now, Bron disagrees there. But Bron can tell it is bothering Melo. The frustration, the rage. So take it from the most dominant NXT Champion of all time: Use that frustration and take it out on everyone! Destroy everyone! Especially Trick Williams.

Melo tells Bron to leave Trick outta this! But Bron chuckles. On Saturday, when Melo lost, where was Trick? Waiting at gorilla to give you a hug and tell you everything was gonna be alright? No? That’s what Bron thought. Melo had to go find Trick cuz Trick was being selfish. See, Bron knew that’s how Melo felt. Just think about what he said. Bron heads out, will everything he just said get to HIM?

Ilja gets his side plates put on.

Now it is truly his title. But then Baron Corbin walks in. Hope those aren’t on there too tight. Dragunov asks what he wants, this is a champion’s moment. Corbin says he is just here with a friendly reminder: outside of Melo, Corbin is the only man who has beat Dragunov over the last year. And everyone knows history has a nasty way of repeating itself. Well, after No Mercy, Dragunov is sure that Melo would disagree. Hmm, No Mercy. Yeah, Corbin was there, and he took Bron Breakker down. So as Corbin sees it, no one stands in Corbin’s way for that title. Dragunov strongly disagrees there, too. Well, okay, Mr. Destiny.

But here’s some advice: take the title, go over to the photographer, put that on his shoulder, shine it up real nice, show the brand new name plates off and get as many pics as possible while you still can. Corbin heads out, thinking he can burn Dragunov’s ship. But will the Mad Dragon be the one to burn Corbin to ashes?

Blair hangs tough but Gigi snarls. Gigi goes out to get that chair! Fans say “YES! YES! YES!” but the ref says don’t!

Gigi storms up on Blair, the ref stops her, and Blair sucker punches Gigi! Now Blair has the chair, but the ref plays tug-o-war with her! Gigi rolls Blair up! GIGI WINS!!

Blair is furious, at the ref! Blair says this isn’t over with her and Gigi! How much worse will this get between Gigi and the Ichiban Gaijin?

Backstage interview with Kiana James.

She is in the middle of a phone call as McKenzie Mitchell asks her why she got involved with Roxie. Kiana tells this person it will be worth the money. What will be? Kiana finishes up and asks what the question was. Oh, right, that thing with Roxie. Look, Roxie has been the golden child of NXT since she go there. Ironically, that was the same day Kiana walked in here. You think Kiana was just gonna sit there and let Roxie get another chance to have another title reign? No! So as the Breakout Tournament returns, everyone remembers Roxie winning it. Who else was in that tournament? Kiana!

Everyone loved seeing Roxie be NXT Women’s Tag Team Champion. Y’know who else was a Women’s Tag Team Champion? Kiana! It is now Kiana’s mission that the entire world sees Kiana above Roxie. Well, she made her point tonight, so what is her plan? Kiana doesn’t need to plan, that next part is already done. What? How? Kiana says if Roxie wants a fight with her, all she has to do is get through her opponent next week. And who is that? None other than the Empress of Tomorrow! So we’ll see if “Edgy Roxie” is ready for Asuka. Kiana didn’t like Becky coming back to NXT but she’ll gladly pay someone else to. Will this investment pay off? Or will this all blow up in her face?

Andre Chase & Duke Hudson talk backstage.

Duke wants Chase to look at what’s going on with Thea Hail. Chase says he doesn’t wanna see that. No, Duke’s talking about the social media beef between Thea, Jacy, Elektra Lopez and Lola Vice. Elektra saying Thea ain’t grown, but then Jacy claps back, and now there’s a tag match. Wow, speak of the devil! Thea, sorry to interrupt, but uh, could they support her for their match? Like, be ringside? Well sure, it shouldn’t be a problem. Oh they’re gonna be chaperones? N-no that’s not what they were saying! Well, whatever Jacy says. Yeah! Chase U on three. All hands in, and one, two, three, CHASE U! Duke says that wasn’t so bad, huh? Chase tells him to shut it. These four head out, but will this all help Professor Chase accept Thea’s new attitude?

NXT Media catches up with Melo.

He’s on his way out and they ask if he’s upset he’s no longer NXT Champion. Yeah, duh, it sucks. And his boy just said he doesn’t need Melo’s help. What do they want? Is Melo gonna take Bron’s advice? Absolutely not! In fact, Melo is having a match with Bron. Melo got some real advice from someone else. It wasn’t what he wanted to hear, but it is what he needed to hear. That man was JOHN CENA. The Greatest of All Time! 16 TIME WORLD CHAMP! And y’know what that means? It means Cena had to get off the mat 15 times and keep moving forward, and that is what he told Melo to do.

And Cena also told Melo to have this match with Bron, because Cena’s gonna have Melo’s back! Cena’s gonna be in Melo’s corner! So see you next week.

BREAKING NEWS!

Also coming to NXT for the first time is the AMERICAN NIGHTMARE, CODY RHODES! He’s going to make a major announcement, just what could it be to warrant him coming here?

NXT North American Championship: Trick Williams VS Dominik Mysterio w/ The Judgment Day!

Speaking of Melo’s boy, Trick is set to defend his title in a rematch from No Mercy. And with Rhea Ripley here in person to accompany Dirty Dom, will Trick have to be extra careful? Or will he still whoop dat ass and send Dom back to Raw once and for all?

NXT returns as Trick makes his entrance. The introductions are made, the belt is raised, and we see if Trick survives Judgment Day!

The bell rings and Dom fires off on Trick! Fans boo as Dom stomps Trick around, throws hands, and has Trick on ropes. Dom ROCKS Trick, Trick staggers around, and Dom whips. Trick whips Dom to then dodge and run Dom over! Fans fire up as Trick DROPKICKS Dom! Trick scoops, Dom slips fee, but Trick dodges to pop-up HAYMAKER! Rhea is furious but the fans fire up! “WHOOP DAT TRICK!” Dom regroups with Rhea and she reminds him of the deal as NXT goes picture in picture.

Dom catches his breath, but Trick draws a line in the sand. Dom paces, slides in, but then slides out. Trick stays patient, he has Champion’s Advantage now. Dom paces as the ring count restarts, but then Trick rushes out after him. They cat ‘n’ mouse around and Dom slips away again. Trick keeps pursuing Dom, and even counter punches the sucker punch! But Dom throws a body shot! Dom aims for the desk but Trick blocks to SMACK Dom off the desk! Trick keeps after Dom with a CHOP against barriers! Dom sputters and hurries away but Trick gets in the ring. Trick eggs Dom on, goes out after him again, and puts Dom in the ring.

Trick fires off hands on Dom in the corner, CHOPS him again, then brings Dom around to whip and CLOBBER him! Cover, TWO! Trick clamps onto Dom with a chinlock and grinds him down. Rhea is upset as she coaches Dom but Trick grinds Dom down. Dom endures, fights around, but Trick thrashes Dom! Dom fights up to his feet, throws elbows, but Trick throws a body shot. Trick hits a headlock takeover, and NXT returns to single picture. Fans rally hard behind Trick as he grinds Dom, determined to pull his head off! Dom endures, fights up again, but then Finn Balor & Damian Priest show up! This distraction allows Dom to back suplex!

Both men are down but fans boo as The Prince and Punisher now back Dom up. Dom stands again and he paces around Trick while Rhea smiles. Dom ROCKS Trick, ROCKS him again, and then he talks trash on the fans. The fans boo but Dom knees Trick low. Dom whips and UPPERCUTS Trick down! Cover, ONE!! Trick is tougher than that and Dom is annoyed. Dom drags Trick into a chinlock and he grinds Trick down. Fans rally as Trick endures and fights up. Trick stands, pries the hold open, and fans fire up as Trick elbows Dom low! And again, and again! Dom CLUBS Trick, whips, and Trick hits buckles hard!

Dom whips corner to corner the other way and Trick hits buckles hard again! Dom wants a third, and Trick hits buckles hard yet again! Dom storms up, stomps Trick in the drop zone, then goes to the apron. Fans boo as Dom gives some Latino Heat. Dom slingshots to senton! Cover, TWO! Fans chant “YOU’RE NOT EDDIE!” Dom storms up on Trick, CHOKES him on the ropes, but the ref counts. Dom lets off at 4, Trick sputters, and Rhea talks trash. Dom then brings Trick around to slingshot stomp, just like Finn would! Finn is proud, and Dom soaks up heat from the fans. Dom then goes back for Trick, drags him up, and snap suplexes!

Fans boo as Dom turns things over, that was just Uno Amigo. Then Dom hits Dos Amigos! Dom gives more Latino Heat while fans chant “WHOOP, DAT TRICK! Trick falls back and Dom goes up top!

Fans boo as hard as they can as Dom FROG SPLASHES, but onto knees!! Trick saves himself and he aims from a corner! Fans are thunderous for the RUNNING KNEE!! Rhea distracts the ref again, and now JD MCDONAGH runs in!! Trick dodges to KNEE JD!! Fans are thunderous as Trick hurries, but Dom gets the briefcase! The ref sees that and stops Dom, but now Finn steps up with a tag belt! BELT SHOT!! Trick falls, Dom goes up! FROG SPLASH!!! Cover, DOM WINS!!

Winner: Dominik Mysterio, by pinfall (NEW NXT North American Champion)

Trick only got to have this title for three days, all because all FIVE Judgment Day players worked together! Dirty Dom is a two-time champion, and Mami Rhea no longer has to put him in the dog house. But is this juts because they’re feeling the walls closing in on Raw and SmackDown?

Wait, Paul Heyman is here?!

The Wise Man is backstage and he introduces himself. And he just wants to make sure he has this right. Next week, live on NXT, for the first time ever on cable television, Carmelo Hayes VS Bron Breakker, renewing the storied rivalry. Now, this is the same Melo that has accepted advice from the second Greatest of All Time, John Cena? The same Cena that keeps getting involved in Bloodline business? Then that means The Bloodline must reciprocate. So THE greatest of all time, Roman Reigns, has bestowed upon Heyman “the task and the privilege of providing wisdom to Bron Breakker.”

And not through a screen, over the phone, or long distance. No, it will be up close and in person, in Bron’s corner, next week! Live on N… X… T! The Special Counsel will be counseling Badass Bron, will it all help Bron take down… HIM?

My Thoughts:

A great NXT to follow up No Mercy, with some wild moves going on at the same time. It all feels like HHHBK are doing everything they can to make NXT into a big deal again, like it was in the Black ‘n’ Gold era. For one, Cody Rhodes, John Cena and Paul Heyman are all showing up next week. I really hope Cody’s reason for showing up is to announce the return of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, it feels like forever since we’ve had one, even though it was only just last year. But at the same time, it was to start 2022, and we didn’t start 2023 with one so maybe we close 2023 with one, that’d be cool.

Then Cena and Heyman are getting in on this great story with Melo and Bron. Bron trying to make Melo turn Heel is a great move because Bron is throwing everything that happened to him during his NXT Championship story right at Melo. Now, this story would be way better if they didn’t crap the bed with Trick VS Dom! The match itself was great stuff, but after everything we’ve been getting between all the brands, WHY are they just slapping that belt back on Dom!? That’s horrible! Melo and Trick should’ve had that title in the way of their friendship! I get it, they had Rhea’s ultimatum just last night and there was no way they’d actually kick Dom outta Judgment Day, but c’mon!

I can only assume that in the alternate timeline where Mustafa Ali was still here and he won this belt, the same thing would happen, but that wouldn’t make it feel any less awful. The only thing that salvages this is that Melo rubs in the “I told you so” of wanting to have Trick’s back, but I don’t want things salvaged, I want them built up. Much like we’re seeing with the NXT Women’s Division. Great move for a Triple Threat #1 contender’s match, and what a surprise to see Indi back. Indi did make good points about giving up the title without losing it, but sadly, it seems her time has passed. Becky VS Lyra is set for Halloween Havoc, and I’m pretty sure that stays the plan even with Becky VS Tegan on Monday.

Dragunov and Corbin have a good promo, and Corbin is a good choice to feed to Dragunov so he gets a first title defense in before the next major event. Good start to the NXT Women’s Breakout Tournament, though it was just the one match when I thought we were getting at least two. But this was a solid win for Kelani and solid TV debut for Izzi. And we did get Thea & Jacy VS Lopez & Lola in a really good tag match. I do like that Jacy is getting Chase & Duke onboard with “grown” Thea, but I’m not sure what the endgame will be now. And really good tag match from Bate & Dunne VS Gallus. In a perfect world, Trent Seven would’ve made his return for a real British Strong Style reunion. But Ridge is a logical move, of course, and now we have a Six Man Tag set up.

Another surprising return is gonna be Asuka to do the dirty work of Kiana James. Fastlane is on the way, but I don’t think Asuka is bringing the WWE Women’s Championship to NXT, there’s a lot at Fastlane that can keep the title on Iyo Sky. But I don’t see Asuka losing to Roxie, either. Maybe Kiana mouths off on Roxie and Roxie hits her for it, and we still get Roxie VS Kiana. Gigi VS Blair was great stuff tonight, but it was also a quick pin that won this for Gigi, so they have to be doing a rematch. As such, it should be a Spin the Wheel, Make the Deal situation so these two can go No Disqualification in some way.

My Score: 8.7/10
