Digital Media championship is being defended today! NO DQ between Crazzy Steve and Rhino!

Published

on

Did the new TNA brass read what I said a few weeks ago about the Digital Media championship being defended on “digital media”, makes too much sense to avoid? I’m surprised that this episode has a touch of weight in all the matches. Jody Threat vs Killer Kelly should establish some kind of heat for a rather uninteresting division and then there’s a title match!

Actual Sacrifice build on Xplosion…I’m somewhat intrigued by this episode. Go figure?

Ratings:

  • Killer Kelly w/Masha Slamovich vs Jody Threat w/Dani Luna: Jody wins via Pop-Shove It – ** 1/2
  • Digital Media Title NO DQ Match: Rhino vs Crazzy Steve (c): Steve retains after Rhino Gores through table – ** 3/4

Killer Kelly w/Masha Slamovich vs Jody Threat w/Dani Luna

Still not really on board with Jody’s spazzy little Canadian punk rock persona. She runs about like a kid on too much sugar, and I’m just not a fan of it. Killer Kelly however, yes, very yes.

Kelly starts off in her typical weird way, crawling around on the floor, takes some kind of direction from Masha and when she goes to shoot for the legs, Jody turns everything around. Kelly is stuffed in the corner, Jody hammers a few Short Arm Lariats into a T-Bone Suplex for 2. Jody goes for Pop-Shove It, Kelly grabs the ropes to break the attempt and then distracts the official for Masha to get involved, but Jody shakes off the attempt.

After Jody tries to counter a Cravat by Kelly; Kelly rolls through the counter and turns it into a Crucifix pin attempt for 2. Kelly keeps the offense going and shows off a bit of her technical prowess before just spanking Jody to get across personality. Repeated Head Butts keep things moving for Kelly until she tries Angel’s Wings but Jody counters and start leveling Kelly with Lariats upon Lariats. Pump Kick sends Kelly draped onto the middle rope, Double Knees to the back into a German Suplex, but Jody wastes some time time firing and hollering to the crowd. Kelly almost stifles the offense but a Michinoku Driver gives Jody a near fall. Pop-Shove It attempt two is countered into the Killer Klutch, but Jody slips it and they trade a few strikes before Kelly lands the Gamengiri into a Death Valley Driver for 2.

Killer Klutch is countered with sending things into the corner turnbuckles. Kelly locks in a Dragon Sleeper from the ropes, Jody tries to counter, Kelly turns it into a Essex Destroyer of sorts. Kelly goes to follow up, Jody fights her off, rocks her and connects the Pop-Shove It for the win!

Around the Ring with Gia Miller has Chris Bey today. So off the bat we find out that Gia had a little bit to do with the ABC team name. Chris Bey has an album coming out on March 25th, so that’s a big note that he makes music.

Digital Media Title NO DQ Match: Rhino vs Crazzy Steve (c)

Bell rings and Steve powders to the outside immediately and plays the old chase game. So Rhino decides to just go under the ring, start hucking chairs into the ring and Steve tries to clear the ring as he’s just noping the whole thing. Rhino gets in the ring, Steve tries to duck and weave a few chair shots but eats a few power shots from Rhino, Shoulder Tackle, Shoulder Block in the corner; call for the Gore, but Steve powders again and tries to walk away with the title.

Rhino follows him, beats him around up the ramp, goes to the back for a trash can, but Steve baits him in, gut shot and then uses the trash can himself to try and neutralize the Man Beast. Rhino pops Steve with a fist, puts a chair on the apron and then drops Steve back first onto the chair on the apron. Rhino wastes some time throwing more weapons into the ring, so Steve can recover, ducks the Lariat as Rhino hits the post and they head back into the ring slowly as Steve uses the Kendo Stick.

Steve decides to look for more toys and finds a Staple Gun. He wants the 10 Count Staple Punches, but Rhino counters with the ole Snake Eyes into the top buckle. Rhino uses a trash can to beat on Steve, throws him into the lodged can in the corner and then looks for more weapons. The crowd chants “toaster” but Rhino gets a table. Odd that the crowd was chanting for something other than a table, but toaster is a well deserved. Baking sheet attacks after Rhino sets up the table in the corner. Rhino lifts up Steve, but Steve grabbed the staple gun at some point, staples Rhino to get out of his clutches, Rhino goes for a desperation Gore, Steve moves and Rhino goes through the table. Steve goes for the immediate cover and 1-2-3, Steve retains!

Overall Score: 6.25/10

Well now, this was a better show than the last few weeks. Gia’s interviews always have some charm, so they’re a high point, the throwback match was classic, seeing Kelly is always a plus for me and the Digital Media title match was good enough to be inoffensive. I am a little mad we didn’t get any toaster usage. I have always said, the one weapon I would love to randomly appear in a Hardcore match is a vacuum…but a toaster…I also support this. Its just always nice to not hear a “we want tables” chant in a NO DQ match.

But hey, we know these are short and sweet, and this had storyline progression and a title match. So nothing egregious, just pretty decent work all around.
