Since the revelation that he would battle Kenny Omega for the IWGP United States Championship at Wrestle Kingdom 12, Chris Jericho has remained in the headlines thanks to his run through New Japan.
Jericho ultimately lost his match with leader of Bullet Club in the Tokyo Dome, but proved to be a worthy opponent, and further reinvented himself by adding many Stan Hansen like elements of chaos (pun intended, trust me) to his routine. The match received rave reviews from those watching live and on New Japan World.
Jericho proved that he, much like Braun Strowman, wasn’t finished with New Japan yet, as he attacked Tetsuya Naito and set up their mega-match for New Japan’s Strong Style Evolved events in March in Los Angeles.
Well now it seems Jericho might have to come out of that match on the victorious side, as Sports Illustrated’s Justin Barrasso is reporting that New Japan is strongly considering a match between the Alpha himself and the longest reigning IWGP Heavyweight Champion of all time, Kazuchika Okada.
If true, this dream match would solidify Jericho’s latest run as one of his greatest ever…and that’s saying a lot! It also proves that out of the long list of things he’s mastered, reinvention is at the top.
Sound off–do you want to see Chris Jericho challenge for Kazuchika Okada’s IWGP Heavyweight Championship?
