Well I had a busy weekend given it was my birthday. So I was getting black out drunk, chasing squirrels around in the dark, and trying to sober up enough to sit through Elimination Chamber. So that information is relevant since that just gives reason to why I didn’t watch as much as I usually do, but I think this Top 5 matches is alright.
Before we get to this week, we need to reveal the winner of last week. In a landslide victory, Evil Drew Gulak vs Tony Nese from 205Live, won easily. Can’t say I’m surprised, that match was fantastic and Drew dropping the corny white guy gimmick is tremendous.
Anyway, on to this week’s Top 5:
5. NJPW/ROH ROH World Championship Match: Dalton Castle vs Trent Barreta vs Beer City Bruiser
I give Bruiser a ton of credit here. Day 1, he faced Hirooki Goto for the NEVER, then before this match he faced Toa Henare in a short, but hard hitting match. So he pulled double duty here on Day 2, just to help cover for an injured Trent.
So Castle was the freshest of the three competitors, but the match still had some decent moments. Castle took himself out by overshooting a knee in the corner, Trent still went for some high risk moves even though he had multiple injuries and Bruiser managed to have another match where he looks like a legit challenger for gold.
If it wasn’t for the Bullet Club storyline being the most hyped aspect of Honor Rising, Bruiser would’ve easily put himself on the map and prove his worth. He’s not flashy, but he’s damn effective, much like the man who trained him, Harley Race.
