Former WWE Superstar Suffers Heart Attack, Having Open Heart Surgery Today

Published

on

With Ric Flair undergoing surgery yesterday (read about that here), the recent passing of Vader due to heart issues (find that here) and Ricky Steamboat recently having a hip replacement, some other news regarding a former WWE Superstar’s health has been revealed today.

Scott Casey, who wrestled for the WWF from 1987 to 1990, suffered a heart attack yesterday according to PWInsider and today, is scheduled for open heart surgery. The 71-year old Casey debuted in 1970 and spent the first nine years of his career working for Joe Blanchard, the father of WWE Hall Of Famer Tully Blanchard, in Southwest Championship Wrestling. He would then move on to World Class Championship Wrestling out of Dallas, feuding with the likes of The Midnight Express (alongside The Great Kabuki), ‘Hollywood’ John Tatum and Kabuki after the two split.

Next up for Casey was the World Wrestling Federation where he was primarily used as a babyface enhancement talent against the likes of Greg Valentine, The Honky Tonk Man and a host of others. Casey was used fairly regularly on television though and would gain victories on the opening matches of house shows against Superstars such as The Red Rooster (Terry Taylor) and ‘Iron’ Mike Sharpe. Scott Casey’s biggest opportunity came at Survivor Series 1988 when he took the injured B. Brian Blair’s spot on a team that consisted of Tito Santana, Ken Patera, ‘Hacksaw’ Jim Duggan and Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts. The quintet would wind up on the losing end on this night, falling to the team of Andre The Giant, ‘Ravishing’ Rick Rude, Harley Race, Mr. Perfect and Dino Bravo.

Aleister Black was out for revenge on Johnny Gargano for his unwarranted attack at WWE NXT Takeover War Games!

  • Johnny Gargano hit the ring first, still acting like a babyface (which he should) but questioning the fans’ somewhat negative reaction to him (which he also should). Aleister Black had his usual theatrical entrance.
  • It was noted that this is Johnny Gargano’s 11th Takeover match, the most of any talent on the roster.
  • Johnny took the early advantage, playing mind games with Aleister and showing why he’s still called “Johnny Wrestling.”
  • Both men would trade strikes mid-match before Gargano nailed a Reverse Rana followed by a Leaping Knee Strike from Black.
  • Black stopped Gargano from going for his DIY strike, instead sitting in his trademark position, center ring, and daring Gargano to give him his best shot. Black moved and rolled Gargano up but did not score the fall.
  • The Staples Center broke out into a “Mama Mia!” chant after Black nailed a knee strike when Gargano dove at him through the ropes.
  • Aleister Black would end the match with an exposed knee strike and two Black Mass kicks to score the pinfall victory.

Kairi Sane challenged Shayna Baszler for the NXT Women’s Championship in a 2 Out Of 3 Falls Match at WWE Takeover War Games!

  • Kairi Sane started the action off hot and heavy, but Marina Shafir and Jessamyn Duke got involved early, attacking Sane on the outside of the ring.
  • That attack allowed Baszler to capture the first fall of the match with the Kirifuda Clucth.
  • Baszler tried to capitalize at the start of the second fall, but Sane would fight back and eventually nail the champ with a Spike DDT on the ring apron, followed by Sane hitting an Insane Elbow to the outside on all three MMA Horsewomen, another in the ring, and the three-count to capture the second fall.
  • Sane would start the third fall with three Interceptor Spears, but wasn’t able to connect with the Insane Elbow.
  • The Horsewomen tried to get involved once more, but were thwarted by Dakota Kai and Io Shirai.
  • Sane would hit another Insane Elbow, but Baszler turned it into a Crucifix for the pinfall to retain her championship.
