WWE News: Police Report Shows Enzo Amore Didn’t Know About Investigation

Published

Enzo Amore WWE

To call former WWE Superstar Enzo Amore’s life since January a whirlwind would be a vast understatement. The former Cruiserweight Champion was of course released from WWE earlier this year after a sexual assault investigation came to light. It would be the final straw in a reported string of events that would lead the company to let Enzo go from his contract and we saw Amore go completely quiet on social media for months. WWE would reportedly state that the reason for his release was due to not being made aware of the investigation.

His silence was finally broken when it was revealed that the Phoenix Police investigation into an October 2017 incident had been dropped due to a lack of evidence, seemingly giving the newly rebranded Real1 all the “go ahead” he needed to launch a music career. It also opened the door for him to speak openly about the entire situation, staying firm in his words that he was not aware of the investigation until it went public following a tweet from the victim. Today, a new report shows that Enzo was indeed honest about that.

ProWrestlingSheet has obtained a copy of Phoenix Police’s investigation report, which states the investigation began on October 27th, 2017, however they did not make Enzo, real name Eric Arndt, aware of it and never attempted to make contact with him until it went public:

“After the victim public disclosed the active investigation, the suspect [redacted] now had knowledge of the investigation and all contact was directly to his attorneys.”

Additionally, the report adds that the public nature of the investigation initiated a witness coming forward, one who shared text messages from the victim, Philomena Sheahan that indicated she had lied in some of her statements to police. It also notes that a forensic examination done four days after the alleged incident did not turn up any DNA evidence on the victim. The report finishes up as follows:

“In reviewing the totality of this investigation, it does not warrant the submission for any criminal charges at this time. There is insufficient evidence to corroborate the victim’s disclosure of sexual assault. There were no witnesses to the incident and the forensic examination and crime lab results do not provide evidence of a sexual assault at this time.

The suspect did not give a direct statement to police, but did give an indirect statement through his attorney that all contact with the victim was consensual.

Cell phone and social media data and information contradict some of the initial statements about the incident and there is no cell phone or social media data that corroborate the sexual assault disclosure.

Witness statements made to law enforcement contradict the victim’s statement.

Video surveillance does confirm that the parties involved were together at the Clarendon Hotel on the night in question. The footage also confirms the victim leaving that morning. The video surveillance does not capture or corroborate the disclosure of sexual assault.

The facts of the case do not allow this case to proceed at this time. In the event that additional evidence comes to light that can corroborate the victim’s disclosure of sexual assault, this case can be re-opened and further investigated. Until such evidence is located or provided, this case will be closed.

Case closed.”

EA’s Take: I guess if you take WWE’s public reasoning for firing Enzo at face value, then you could have a reason to slightly feel bad for the guy losing his job over this. I don’t subscribe to that, however. The bottom line is that we all know the guy was on thin ice and had rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. He’ll even admit to that. So the important part to remember is that it was the “last straw” in a list of mistakes he made and the company was really handcuffed at the time.

Mitchell’s AEW Continental Classic Update! (11/27/23)

What a start to the tournament!

Did your picks win points?

The AEW Continental Classic is underway, with almost everyone competing. Check in here if you haven’t seen the winners and losers of week 1!

Here are your Gold League standings!

  • Jon Moxley: 1-0, 3 points
  • Swerve Strickland: 1-0, 3 points
  • Jay White: 1-0, 3 points
  • Rush: 0-1, 0 points
  • Mark Briscoe: 0-1, 0 points.
  • Jay Lethal: 0-1, 0 points

Here are your Blue League standings!

  • Brody King: 1-0, 3 points
  • Claudio Castagnoli: 1-0, 3 points
  • Daniel Garcia: 0-1, 0 points
  • Eddie Kingston: 0-1, 0 points
  • Bryan Danielson: Yet to Compete
  • Andrade El Idolo: Yet to Compete

My Thoughts:

Nothing too crazy, nothing too wild, this tournament only just got started. The only disappointing point is that they could not get Bryan “cleared to compete” Saturday night. Not sure how much of that is shoot given the bad eye, but this was kinda the problem of wanting him in the tournament over tons of other choices. Bryan wants to face Okada for WrestleKingdom 18, how is Bryan supposed to do that at his best if he’s also gonna be in a round robin, doing five top level matches in about as many weeks? And it takes away from Andrade being able to do something. Also a little surprised we didn’t even hear from Andrade on Saturday.

Now as we heard on Saturday, round two’s matches are set. Gold League will see Mark Briscoe VS Rush, White VS Swerve, and of course, Moxley VS Lethal. Nice variety there, a couple 0-1 guys facing off, as well as two 1-0 guys, and then 1-0 VS 0-1. No offense to Lethal, but he feels like an 0-2 going up against Moxley. Hard to call the other ones but that’s the fun of it. Meanwhile, Blue League sees Brody VS Claudio in a showdown to be 2-0, then Bryan and Andrade finally jump in, Bryan against Eddie and Andrade against Garcia. Sadly, feels like Eddie and Garcia are going 0-2, no way Tony Khan is booking Bryan and Andrade to lose their first shots.

In fact, that could be half the reason they did wait on those two, that’s almost too good for just a first round opener. But I still would’ve done it, same as NJPW does stuff like that for round robins, which this is all modeled after anyway.
