Triple H SummerSlam 1997

We see the a recap video next that leads us to The European Championship match. The British Bulldog headbutts Ken Shamrock during a arm wrestling competition. He then grabs a chair and proceeds to give Shamrock some chairshots to the head.  The segment ends with The Bulldog shoving dog food into the face of Ken Shamrock. The WWF European Champion, The British Bulldog enters the arena first and he is waving The Union Jack. We see the can of dog food next and Vince tells us that Bulldog plans to eat the food if he looses the match. UFC Hall of Famer and “The World’s Most Dangerous Man”, Ken Shamrock enter the arena and receives a positive reaction from the fans. If you have never watched Ken’s UFC fights then I would suggest it, as they were ran differently than the UFC of now. In Ken’s time it was done in a tournament style, with no weight classes and the multiple fights in a night.

As soon as Shamrock hits the ring, he and Bulldog are exchanging punches before the bell sounds. Shamrock gets the first pop when he does a belly-to-belly suplex, off from an Irish whip. Bulldog would leave the ring to regain his composure. Ken doesn’t let that happen though, and joins him on the outside to resume the beating. Shamrock goes for the first cover, when they return to the ring, after a clothesline to the “solar plexus”. But he only gets the two count. Shamrock maintains the momentum, using various blows, until Bulldog hits a big boot to slow him down. He follow the boot with a nice clothesline and soon is on the offensive for the first time. He soon has Shamrock in the air for his signature powerplex. The Bulldog slams Shamrock to the mat but he also only manages the two count. Next he goes to work by wearing Shamrock down, with a side headlock. After some elbows to the midsection, Shamrock hits the sunset flip, but only manages a two count on the pin attempt. Bulldog lays Shamrock out with a brutal clothesline and is applying the side head again. This is when we see some blood trickling from the mouth of “The World’s Most Deadly Man”. Bulldog, after a few blows to the head of Ken, whips him into the ring post, shoulder first and it sends him to the floor. Bulldog joins Shamrock on the outside and Irish whips him into the steel stairs. He tries to hit Shamrock with the top half of the stairs but the referee put himself between the two. The pair would exchange punches, on the outside, before they return to the ring. Bulldog delivers a few more blows to the face of Shamrock and we see the blood start to flow as Bulldog applies another side headlock. The Bulldog throws Shamrock to the outside again, and after a scoop slam, he pastes some dog food to the side of Shamrock’s face. This enrages Ken and he unleashes a fury of punches on The Bulldog. He follows that with a couple of shots to the head, of Bulldog, with the dog food can. This is when we hear the bell ring but Shamrock continues the assault. He returns The British Bulldog to the ring and the crowd is popping as Shamrock stomps a mudhole into The Bulldog. The official tries to separate them, but takes a bump, when Shamrock shoves him for his efforts. This is when Ken Shamrock applies the rear naked choke and doesn’t let go, as many officials come to the ring. The bell continues as Gerald Brisco and Pat Patterson join the officials in the ring to try and separate the two. He eventually lets go, of the purple-faced Bulldog, and “snaps” on the officials and belly-to-belly suplexs them all. Shamrock would even nail Patterson and Brisco with them and the crowd is loving “The World’s Most Dangerous Man”. We even hear chants of “Shamrock”. Ken is obviously DQed here and The British Bulldog retains the Title. The match wasn’t great overall aside from the ending. Shamrock always being on the verge of a psychotic meltdown was always fun to watch, and it didn’t disappoint here and made the match watchable. Match Time: 7:29

Todd Pentingill is in the back with, the special guest referee for The Main Event, Shawn Michaels. Shawn is in the “Zebra Stripes” and Todd ask him “Will you put your entire career on the line just to get even with Bret “The Hitman” Hart?” This is due to the special stipulation that if Shawn does anything to Hart in the match he can’t wrestle in the USA ever again. Shawn says that everything between the two was settled when he beat Bret at last years WrestleMania. He continues with “I am here to be an impartial, unbiased fair referee and nothing will get by the keen eye of Shawn Michaels.”

Vince, JR and Lawler are talking about the onslaught Shamrock unleashed after the match and Vince tells us a new commissioner will be announced on the following night’s RAW. The commissioner, who is announced the next day, is Sergeant Slaughter. Vince then introduces a clip that leads into the next match between Los Baricuas and D.O.A. or The Disciples Of Apocalypse. This shows the “Faction Warfare” that is popular at the time, and also included the Nation Of Domination. The clip shows Faarooq firing both Savio Vega and Crush from the Nation. The two go onto form their own gangs, Savio’s Los Baricuas and Crush’s D.O.A.. There are various clips of the factions jumping each other before Los Baricuas enter the arena first. Los Baricuas is made up of Savio Vega, Jesus Castillo, Jose Estrada Jr. and Miguel Perez. The members of Los Baricuas never had much of a career in the WWF, besides this Puerto Rican themed stable. As they enter ringside the make a point to shake hands with the Spanish announce team. The Disciples Of Apocalypse enter the arena next and really make the crowd pop by riding Harleys to the ring. The Disciples are made up of Crush, 8-Ball, Chainz and Skull. Brian Lee, or Chainz, most infamous gimmick was as the imposter Undertaker. 8-ball and Skull are real life Harris twins, who had various success and Tag Titles around the Indies. Their most infamous gimmick perhaps was as a tag team in WCW were the wrestled as “Pat” and “Gerald”, a rib on Gerald Brisco and Pat Patterson. After circling the ring, the Disciples park their bikes at the top of the ramp, and run to the ring to start the fight.

The D.O.A. enter the ring and the gang fight begins. After they exchange blows, The Disciples clear the ring and they seem like they are the crowd favorite. D.O.A. take turns controlling the fight by beating on Estrada before he makes the tag. The tag wouldn’t do much to slow the beating to Los Baricuas, and the Bikers maintain the edge. The Disciples have a revolving door of tags and are doing some double teaming when Savio hits a smooth spinning heel kick that he rolls through and goes out of the ring. This was very smoothly executed and was a highlight of the match. This allows the Baricuas to get the advantage and apply some offensive maneuvers. They continue to have what JR says look like a “gang style attack in the South Bronx” in the corner on 8-ball. Both men are laid out in the ring, after a clothesline from 8-Ball, when we see the Nation Of Domination enter through the fans. The Nation at this time is made up of Faarooq, D-Lo Brown, Kama Mustafa and Ahmed Johnson. You can hear “Ahmed Sucks” chants here. This is because Ahmed has recently turned Heel and joined The Nation. The Faction watches from ringside. The official begins to lose more and more control of the match the longer it goes on. Los Baricuas keep Skull from tagging as they take turns on him. When Skull finally manages the hot tag, everyone is in the ring and its chaos. Chainz ends up on the outside in front of Ahmed Johnson, whom he slugs in the face. This leads to a Pearl River Plunge, from Ahmed, to the floor mats. Ahmed rolls Chainz back into the ring and one of Los Baricuas gets the cover, and the three, as the rest of the teams are brawling. After the decision is announced all three stables continue to brawl on the outside and it is all out “Gang Warfare”. Crush would break up the chaos up by driving his motorcycle into the group. At this time we can see Ahmed Johnson limping up the ramp, He suffered another knee injury here and would soon be replaced in The Nation of Domination by Rocky Maivia. This would help to pave the way to The Rock we know today. For all the shenanigans that took place, the match wasn’t entertaining at all. If you skip this one you wont be missing out on much.
