A Week Of ‘In Your Face Entertainment’ for WWE

So last week I debuted an article here to review the week in WWE that we have witnessed and to project the following week. I will be adapting the way I write these articles on a weekly basis but first I have an official name for this weekly slot so without further ado…..let me introduce you to Then, Now & Forever where I bring you the official results from Monday Night RAW, NXT on Wednesday’s & Friday Night Smackdown.

With an absolutely stacked week of professional wrestling ahead of us let us waste no more time and dive in to the results, what I thought was HOT or NOT and what projections I can see for next week.

Projection for Next Week

Why Retribution? Why?

We need more, we need to see more from this group of vandals. What is the aim? What is the main purpose of this group? Will a leader soon be revealed? I think we may have to wait until at least survivor series for that one, but still they will cause chaos again this week during the announced Triple threat tag team number one contenders match thus meaning no further winner and a fatal four way at Clash of champions will be announced with The Street profits defending vs Andrade/Garza vs Rollins/Murphy vs Dominik & Rey Mysterio. Exciting stuff indeed.

We will also see Keith Lee face Drew McIntyre once again with Drew winning clean and heading on to face Orton in the Ambulance match. Keith Lee’s time will soon come. Then we will head to the Underground for Braun Strowman vs Dabba-kato in what will be the biggest match to date for the new side project from WWE. Exciting stuff which sure has me hooked.

WWE NXT Official Results

  • IO Shirai def. Shotzi Blackheart
  • Tommaso Ciampa def. Desmond Troy
  • Kushida def. Austin Theory
  • Breezango def. Imperium to retain NXT Tag Team Championships.
  • Kacy Catanzaro & Kayden Carter def. Xia Li & Jessi Kamea
  • Drake Maverick & Killian Dain def. Undisputed Era via DQ
  • Damien Priest def. Timothy Thatcher to retain NXT North American Championship

HOT or NOT

  • Shotzi Blackheart – Verdict – HOT
  • Ciampa warpath – Verdict – HOT
  • Kushida showing aggressive side – Verdict – HOT
  • Breezango title run / Next challengers – Verdict – NOT
  • Drake Maverick & Killian Dain – Verdict – Undecided
  • Damien Priest as North American Champion – Verdict – HOT

Projection for Next Week

Another stellar week for the black and gold brand, Shotzi Blackheart stands out a mile, with both her look and her performance against IO, watch for Shotzi to be a major player in next week’s battle royal where the winner challenges for the NXT woman’s title at Takeover on October 4th. We also have a number one contenders match for Finn Balor’s gold up for grabs in a gauntlet match where Kushida has been announced, I expect another 4 or 5 competitors to be involved but look to Kushida to rival Velveteen dream at Takeover so who does that leave for the shot? Tune in to find out. Also Breezango are showing well each week, even though they might not be the most over team right now they are certainly in the spotlight and thriving. Will the makeshift team of Drake Maverick & Killian Dain have a shot, will it be Undisputed Era again or what about Legado del Fantasma? Is a 4 way on the cards for what could be a stacked Takeover event in 2 week’s time?

WWE SMACKDOWN Results

  • Cesaro (w/ Shinsuke Nakamura) defeated Gran Metalik (w/ Kalisto & Lince Dorado)
  • Nikki Cross defeated Lacey Evans
  • AJ Styles defeated Sami Zayn
  • Roman Reigns & Jey Uso (w/ Paul Heyman) defeated King Corbin & Sheamus in a Samoan Street Fight

HOT or NOT

  • Lacey Evans putting over Nikki Cross as a threat to Bayley and being damn right awesome on the mic is something I need to see more of – Verdict – HOT
  • The slow emergence of Alexa Bliss as a patron or something else more sinister as she toys with the dark side – Verdict – HOT
  • 50/50 booking of tag team challengers and a teased break up of Lucha House Party – Verdict – NOT
  • Triple Threat gold on the line in a ladder match at clash of champions between Hardy/Styles/Zayn….take my money WWE!!! This is Awesome TV – Verdict -HOT
  • BIG E going on the warpath – Verdict – HOT
  • Paul Heyman Narrative on Jey Uso vs Roman for the title and Roman waiting destroy his family is something that I am so invested in – Verdict – HOT
  • MITB mess, oh I feel sorry for the competitors in this mess – Verdict – NOT

Projection for next week

With no announced matches as of yet I am just going to write from my heart. This episode of smackdown was fantastic and each person involved in each storyline is clearly enjoying they’re work right now. I want to see more of Lacey Evans but she will meet her fate next week as she challenges that ‘Nasty’ Alexa Bliss with Nikki Cross watching on as her friend changes with every passing week. Hardy will face Sami Zayn with Styles on commentary and Hardy will get the upper hand, I mean we all want to see Zayn re capture the gold he never lost right?! So losing 2 weeks in a row surely means gold comes home next Sunday. BIG E will challenge Sheamus to a no DQ match at the PPV but will need tom got through Corbin again and then look out for an emotional but fired Jey Uso cut a scathing but heart felt promo on Roman Reigns as they sign a contract for their showdown.

Well, all in all another fantastic week of WWE programming. Raw is slightly the least of my favourite shows right now but it does have an interesting title picture with Randy, Drew & Keith Lee all showing that they could dominate at the top of the card. The tag title picture looks messy but could be fun this week if my projections come true.

My best match of the week has to go over to Shotzi Blackheart vs IO Shirai, that could have stolen the show at any given Takeover and won plaudits all over the world, let’s hope we get to see it again.

Thank you again for taking the time to read. Please remain safe and well.

Until next time, Thank you.

Mitchell’s AEW Continental Classic Update! (11/27/23)

What a start to the tournament!

Did your picks win points?

The AEW Continental Classic is underway, with almost everyone competing. Check in here if you haven’t seen the winners and losers of week 1!

Here are your Gold League standings!

  • Jon Moxley: 1-0, 3 points
  • Swerve Strickland: 1-0, 3 points
  • Jay White: 1-0, 3 points
  • Rush: 0-1, 0 points
  • Mark Briscoe: 0-1, 0 points.
  • Jay Lethal: 0-1, 0 points

Here are your Blue League standings!

  • Brody King: 1-0, 3 points
  • Claudio Castagnoli: 1-0, 3 points
  • Daniel Garcia: 0-1, 0 points
  • Eddie Kingston: 0-1, 0 points
  • Bryan Danielson: Yet to Compete
  • Andrade El Idolo: Yet to Compete

My Thoughts:

Nothing too crazy, nothing too wild, this tournament only just got started. The only disappointing point is that they could not get Bryan “cleared to compete” Saturday night. Not sure how much of that is shoot given the bad eye, but this was kinda the problem of wanting him in the tournament over tons of other choices. Bryan wants to face Okada for WrestleKingdom 18, how is Bryan supposed to do that at his best if he’s also gonna be in a round robin, doing five top level matches in about as many weeks? And it takes away from Andrade being able to do something. Also a little surprised we didn’t even hear from Andrade on Saturday.

Now as we heard on Saturday, round two’s matches are set. Gold League will see Mark Briscoe VS Rush, White VS Swerve, and of course, Moxley VS Lethal. Nice variety there, a couple 0-1 guys facing off, as well as two 1-0 guys, and then 1-0 VS 0-1. No offense to Lethal, but he feels like an 0-2 going up against Moxley. Hard to call the other ones but that’s the fun of it. Meanwhile, Blue League sees Brody VS Claudio in a showdown to be 2-0, then Bryan and Andrade finally jump in, Bryan against Eddie and Andrade against Garcia. Sadly, feels like Eddie and Garcia are going 0-2, no way Tony Khan is booking Bryan and Andrade to lose their first shots.

In fact, that could be half the reason they did wait on those two, that’s almost too good for just a first round opener. But I still would’ve done it, same as NJPW does stuff like that for round robins, which this is all modeled after anyway.
