Talking Smack for the Academy!

WWE Talking Smack

Another EST edition of Talking Smack!

After having the last laugh on Bayley, Bianca Belair returns to Talking Smack to explain how it feels! Plus, the Alpha Academy is here with a beardless Otis!

Kayla Braxton Kevin Patrick welcomes us back to the show!

K-Peezy explains he’s filling in for “The Head of the Broadcast Table” and it is an honor to be alongside the unrivaled Paul Heyman. Heyman needs subtitles because of Kevin’s accent. Kevin talks slower so Heyman can understand. We’re putting pieces together from a frantic and incredible Friday Night SmackDown. Heyman corrects Kevin as he does Kayla on the correct way to use “incredible.” But he understands, Kevin’s from Raw. That show is “incredible.” Now Kevin has graduated and is sitting next to a national treasure! Congratulations! Please, run down this very credible SmackDown. Well it was still incredible to Kevin.

What was also incredible was Cesaro raiding Ding Dong, Hello and getting back at Seth Rollins! Cesaro had his say, “ruined” Ding Dong Hello, and just pummels Rollins and ripping that suit. Heyman is having a handsome man but Rollins is surely upset about what happened to his drip. Heyman again calls for subtitles. He knows Kevin’s from Nebraska- No, Dublin, Ireland. And right now he lives in Dublin, Georgia. Not Dublin, Ohio like most think. Heyman again can’t understand! What’s going on? Heyman shrugs and says he’ll just smile and agree. Was Heyman impressed with Cesaro’s return? Heyman asks staff for help. Okay, yes, Heyman did like Cesaro’s return.

So he CAN understand? No, the staff guy helped him! Kevin says “Tommy” is also Irish. Heyman says we never name them, just acknowledge their presence. And just wrap it up, Kevin, this is going too long. No, they still have some things to run down. Kevin Owens and Big E deserve time because they defeated Sami Zayn and Apollo Crews. But then Sami got upset with Apollo and Azeez hit him down. Heyman’s not a fan of Sami, huh? Obviously Heyman is not a fan of Sami, so Kevin apologizes for asking a stupid question. More of those might come up. Heyman still doesn’t understand. Well, we’ll work on communication during commercial.

But Kevin wants to ask about the “disturbing” ending to SmackDown. That much Heyman understands. Rey posed a challenge to Roman Reigns for a match inside Hell in a Cell. Then Rey is so eager- No, that’s bad on Heyman. Rey’s anxious to get after Roman, he doesn’t even wait for the answer. The challenge has not been answered. Heyman says he has the answer, and will give it later in the show. Kevin asks why not now. No, that’s a hook for the end of the show! This is why Raw is failing! You don’t hook anyone! You gotta hook fans, reel them in, get them to watch the rest of the show! Otherwise, Heyman is a shmuck! Heyman apologizes and he can’t believe he’s saying this, he misses Kayla!

Kevin tries not to be offended but he knows this is going to be a very hard show to get through for both of them. They take a commercial to let this diffuse.

The Alpha Academy joins Talking Smack!

Chad Gable and the newly clean-shaven Otis sit and Kevin is thrilled to have their first guests. Kevin has so many questions given what we saw on SmackDown. Kevin asks about the disrespect they’re feeling from the Street Profits over the simple offer they were making. Gable says he was simply offering applications to the Academy, which is very rare! And yet, the Profits mocked them. Specifically, they mocked Gable. And a guy as loyal as Otis does not like that. Gable’s done his job by unleashing the Alpha within Otis. And if Gable doesn’t mind saying, it’s terrifying. Otis has a question for us: How is Montez Ford doing?

We did get an update, thanks for asking. Partial rib fracture after what Otis did to him. Kevin thought it was a great match we were seeing. Gable agrees, but then it ended in a DQ because of Otis. Otis has had this mean streak before, but this was perhaps sadistic and unforgiving. What’s changed/ Things happen for a reason. He Profits don’t show respect, Otis will be very vicious. Heyman will be respectful as he speaks to Otis. He has always admired Otis. But production is asking politely to bring the mic up a bit, it’s hard to hear him.

Otis says he only has this to say: Where’s Angelo Dawkins? Is he still here? “Mr. Dawkins, you’re next on the list. I’d be very worried if I was you. Very worried about what’s coming.” Otis can only control himself so much. And if it’s a Friday Night SmackDown, he’ll feel very sorry. But Dawks should look after Tez, because the same could happen to him. Gable admits he’s scared. But also proud. Otis is proud, too. This is the prized pupil. Kevin says Gable must feel pretty safe having Otis on his side. What’s to be scared of? Then what advice do they have for the Profits?

Gable says they had their chance, the offer is off the table. The Profits should make their presence around here pretty scarce going forward. Gable pats Otis on the back, and Otis says “All For The Academy!” See you soon, Dawks! Heyman and Kevin are both a bit unsettled as the Alphas leave. Heyman has never seen this Otis before, and he doesn’t want to. Otis seems disturbed to Kevin. Heyman says Otis is capable, and that is disturbing. Great credentials, huge size and great speed. Look what he did to Montez Ford. And coming from Heyman, that says something.

Bianca Belair joins Talking Smack!

The EST SmackDown Women’s Champion is here and Kevin thanks her for joining them. She’s happy to be here! Kevin notes Bianca turn the tables on Bayley. Bayley mocked and laughed Bianca, but Bianca got her back. Yeah, she had to. Bianca will admit that Bayley’s laugh was getting to her, but she reminded herself who she is. Bianca is the champion, she isn’t going to let the Bayleys to get her. Bianca got the last laugh, the “KIKIKIKI” is done. So has Bianca at least gotten the image of hundreds of Bayley heads around her out of her own head? Oh, that was like Hell already. But tonight, with things turning around, she feels much better.

Kevin asks Bianca how things feel in the locker room now. From new kid to main eventer and champion, that’s quite the growth. There is a target on her back now. Bianca says she was gonna say that, he stole the words out of her mouth. Heyman scolds Kevin for that and Kevin apologizes. But Bianca says it’s fine. She has a target on her back but she hasn’t gotten hit yet. Kevin asks Heyman how impressed he is by Bianca. Does Kevin not watch Talking Smack? Bianca is the future of the Women’s Division, from Raw to SmackDown to NXT to all of Sports Entertainment!

This is something he’s talked with Bianca even before she became champion. She will have a target so long as she is champion, and Bayley is just one of many. Unless Bayley wins at HIAC. Bianca gets protective, just on the thought, he sees that. But that’s how a champion has to be. Just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean the whole world isn’t against you. The women want that title, Bianca’s greatness will be defined by how many times she gets hit and keeps on going. Does that answer Kevin’s question? Beautifully.

Kevin asks if he can ask her something. Heyman says he can, he may, and he should. Thank you, Heyman. Then Bianca has already beaten Bayley before, she knows Bayley is good physically and knows what to do mentally. What are Bayley’s strengths? Bianca says she knows and Bayley knows that when Bianca says she’s the EST, she means it. Bayley thinks that the only way she can get to Bianca is mentally, because physically she can’t. The mind games are still going but Bianca will show she’s the toughEST mentally, too. Everything Bianca’s been through, everything she’s pushed through, it’s what she does. She shows up and shows out.

So then Bianca is still feeling good after what happened on Ding Dong Hello? Oh of course! She is still laughing about that, she had a good night. Kevin thanks Bianca for her time, and wishes her luck in her title match against Bayley. Heyman shakes Bianca’s hand and the EST heads out. After the break, we’ll give Heyman the floor!

Talking Smack returns and Kevin talks with Heyman.

Heyman “hooked” us with his comments earlier but Kevin wants to revisit that. Rey Mysterio challenged Roman Reigns to a Hell in a Cell match at Hell in a Cell. Will Roman accept that challenge and defend his Universal Championship at Hell in a Cell? Kevin says Heyman has the floor. Heyman sits there quietly and Kevin says we’re all waiting patiently for an answer to this question. What will Roman Reigns do about Rey Mysterio’s challenge? Heyman says, “We have a legend. The greatest luchador of all time. And I warned him on this very show, sitting in this very chair, looking into this very camera.” Heyman begged Rey, pleaded with him, and fought back tears.

Rey is an aggrieved father, mourning the vicious beating his son took at the hands of the Reigns-ing, Defending, Undisputed, Uncontroverted, Universal Heavyweight Champion. But now Rey wants revenge on Father’s Day! WHOA. You can’t write it any better than this, even if you worked on Monday Night Raw! Rey coming for revenge against Roman Reigns, on Father’s Day, locked inside HIAC! That alone is a hook! That is a lure! That is a seduction that will entice anyone that will get them to understand this story and want them to see it! Heyman as Special Counsel hereby informs the public he is authorized to accept the challenge!

And that’s bad news for Rey. Because he is not stepping into HIAC with just a defending champion. He is stepping into HIAC against “The Monarch of the Mat. The Gracious God of the Grappling Game! The Tastemaker for the Island of Relevancy. The Savage Samoan Sadist. The Devil Himself Inside Hell in a Cell!” Rey is stepping into the demonic structure with Roman… Reigns! The match is now made, will Rey Mysterio regret it?

My Thoughts:

So first off, Peacock sucks utter garbage. How long did we have to wait for this to be uploaded? And like hell I’m ever going to be able to catch this live! Half the price, one-fifth the quality, and I’m being nice. But at least it was a good episode. Otis is flipping the switch as a character and handling it perfectly, he really is menacing without the beard. Bianca has a good segment but she somewhat recycles previous promos from Talking Smack and SmackDown. Heyman was on the ball as always, mocking Kevin for his Irish accent but also putting the new, scary Otis over.

Heyman mocking Raw through Kevin was good, too. Raw needs to get its act together, it is a distant third for WWE Television, and that’s only because NXT UK is only on the internet in the States. Heyman being allowed to give Roman’s answer was definitely a good “hook” for as to why fans need to keep an eye on Talking Smack. Heyman has another great promo to also make it more than just “Yeah Roman accepts,” and this is going to be awesome stuff!

Mitchell’s AEW Continental Classic Update! (11/27/23)

What a start to the tournament!

Did your picks win points?

The AEW Continental Classic is underway, with almost everyone competing. Check in here if you haven’t seen the winners and losers of week 1!

Here are your Gold League standings!

  • Jon Moxley: 1-0, 3 points
  • Swerve Strickland: 1-0, 3 points
  • Jay White: 1-0, 3 points
  • Rush: 0-1, 0 points
  • Mark Briscoe: 0-1, 0 points.
  • Jay Lethal: 0-1, 0 points

Here are your Blue League standings!

  • Brody King: 1-0, 3 points
  • Claudio Castagnoli: 1-0, 3 points
  • Daniel Garcia: 0-1, 0 points
  • Eddie Kingston: 0-1, 0 points
  • Bryan Danielson: Yet to Compete
  • Andrade El Idolo: Yet to Compete

My Thoughts:

Nothing too crazy, nothing too wild, this tournament only just got started. The only disappointing point is that they could not get Bryan “cleared to compete” Saturday night. Not sure how much of that is shoot given the bad eye, but this was kinda the problem of wanting him in the tournament over tons of other choices. Bryan wants to face Okada for WrestleKingdom 18, how is Bryan supposed to do that at his best if he’s also gonna be in a round robin, doing five top level matches in about as many weeks? And it takes away from Andrade being able to do something. Also a little surprised we didn’t even hear from Andrade on Saturday.

Now as we heard on Saturday, round two’s matches are set. Gold League will see Mark Briscoe VS Rush, White VS Swerve, and of course, Moxley VS Lethal. Nice variety there, a couple 0-1 guys facing off, as well as two 1-0 guys, and then 1-0 VS 0-1. No offense to Lethal, but he feels like an 0-2 going up against Moxley. Hard to call the other ones but that’s the fun of it. Meanwhile, Blue League sees Brody VS Claudio in a showdown to be 2-0, then Bryan and Andrade finally jump in, Bryan against Eddie and Andrade against Garcia. Sadly, feels like Eddie and Garcia are going 0-2, no way Tony Khan is booking Bryan and Andrade to lose their first shots.

In fact, that could be half the reason they did wait on those two, that’s almost too good for just a first round opener. But I still would’ve done it, same as NJPW does stuff like that for round robins, which this is all modeled after anyway.
