POD is WAR & Peacemaker Review: Episode 8

We reach the final episode! Butterflies, cows, broken ankles and hair dye! Do things end strong or are we left confused at the end? Check it out!

Well since the Bandwagon Nerds are buried in other shows, the tumultuous triple triad decided this show’s title just goes too well with our show name. So as a cheap excuse for a literary reference, and to spread the good word of hair metal and John Cena, POD is WAR will be reviewing Peacemaker!

  • Show: Peacemaker
  • Streaming Service: HBO Max

  • IMDB Series: 8.5/10

WAR & Peacemaker Review: It’s Cow or Never

PC Tunney: Now keeping up with tradition, Tunney’s typing ability is equivalent to that of Eagly’s understanding of English. You know where to go for his opinion, and no, it’s not a Brony Convention…though I wouldn’t be surprised…

Tunney’s Episode Rating: 5/5

Tunney’s Overall Rating: 4.51/5

Andrew: Everything comes to a head in this episode! Does the whole thing pay off? Season 2 was announced to be green lit right before the episode dropped; so how does it keep us wanting more?

The group rallied behind Harcourt at the end of episode 7 and tried to develop a plan. Leota goes as far to try and request help from the Justice League when she calls her mother (Waller). But alas, everything seems to be the fun handful versus dozens of enemies trope! But we all know that even when they approach tropes, James Gunn doesn’t do things in a boring way.

We start with a few pot shots at Green Arrow and then Peacemaker tries to get Eagly to drop the Sonic Boom helmet (from the first episode) onto the barn the cow is in, but that…I mean, HE’S AN EAGLE! You really expected sudden fluency and dog like training? Stop it. So the group has a few funny moments when they break into pairs to try and find the now lost helmet and we learn that Peacemaker is still haunted by the ghost of his father. Which even though he’s still a degrading piece of shit, he indirectly helps them find the helmet. So Neo Nazi helpful ghosts? This is like Jojo Rabbit on crack.

Economos gets chosen to place the helmet in the barn because the butterflies don’t know what he looks like, which leads to a Dye Beard confession scene that is sad, pathetic and endearing all at the same time. Peacemaker hears Economos go into the whole explanation (since he’s pretending to be a butterfly to infiltrate the barn) and you see on his face that he’s actually feeling bad about harassing him the whole series. Badass fight scene ensues which is highlighted by Peacemaker throwing his shield in the air and shooting it to drive the tip into one of the Butterflies. Just a very cool scene with the Do You Wanna Taste It song playing in the background.

Goff and Peacemaker face off, but Goff actually doesn’t want to hurt Peacemaker because he treated her kindly and she feels they have similar values. Goff reveals that the Butterflies are trying to take over Earth not to rule, but to guide humanity away from the pitfalls that plagued her people. So they are trying to enslave humanity for salvation, effectively. Peacemaker doesn’t play along, shoots Goff in the head and the psycho Sheriff guy, Leota uses the Human Torpedo helmet to kill the cow…and we see Goff crawl out of the body, and Peacemaker lets her fly away.

The last few minutes go over that the group made it out alive, Leota is exposing A.R.G.U.S., Peacemaker and Vigilante are blowing things up in the woods; but the final scene ends on Peacemaker on the porch outside of his trailer with the ghost of his father and Goff coming down for a little bit of the food that Peacemaker has left.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Very interesting way to end it all. Great series.

Andrew’s Episode Rating: 4.9/5

Andrew’s Overall Rating: 4.48/5

Adam: The end has finally come and we have one last episode to worry about and Peacemaker… does not want to hear what Leota has to say about the diary being planted on the ride to the farm which is fair with all things considered and since we know Waller is Leota’s mother, MAYBE WE CAN GET THE JUSTICE LEAGUE! No?? They’re busy? Fuck those guys…

Now that we have an idea and a location, we have a handful of helmets to hopefully get all of this done perfectly fine. Anti-Gravity, just activate it by saying Activate Anti-Grav… and there it goes. Okay, well Eagly can fly the Sonic Boom helmet from Episode 1 to destroy the barn at the top… and Eagly doesn’t understand English like Harcourt said. Time to look for it.

As the group splits up to find the helmet that Eagly dropped in the woods, a new thing appears with Peacemaker, his father coming back to haunt him. He begins to hallucinate and see’s Auggie there, trying to kill him with a blow dart and Harcourt comes around the corner and finds the Helmet with this moment gone. Thanks… Racist Ghosts?  As they go into Plan C, they kill a guard, take their uniform and Economos has to infiltrate on the inside and place the helmet near The Cow. He finally admits to the beard being dyed when questioned by the Butterflies and then, the fireworks start. As the army goes to charge Economos, Leota uses a walkie-talkie to say Activate Sonic Boom to destroy the barn and in turn, The Cow.

Vigilante, Peacemaker and Harcourt rush in as the full version of ‘Do You Want to Taste It?’ plays and fights off the Butterflies. Vigilante and Harcourt take care of the ones outside as Peacemaker takes care of the problem inside. The group… holds their own for a bit but the numbers become overwhelming and Leota comes in to help save the day. Peacemaker makes it into the barn and Goff of all things helps bring him in to tell them why they came to Earth and everything else but, Chris is having none of it and we kill the Cow along with the detective so Goff is captured by Peacemaker again. Oh look… the Justice League came… after everything was said and done.

After all of this, everyone goes to the hospital to treat all damage, Leota has a press conference about clearing Peacemaker’s name, the Suicide Squad project and who it is ran by. Chris watches from a hospital alongside Emilia’s bed, Vigilante… fucks off out of the hospital window when this goes on and Economos goes back to his old job, pictures of his friends on the desk as we fade to Chris, back at his trailer; Eagly going to find some more dead rodents, Goff eating some of the remaining goop from The Cow and… his ghost father, sitting on the porch with him to cliff hang Season 2.

Adam’s Episode Rating: 5/5

Adam’s Overall Rating: 4.56/5

Superhero Madness, BWN’s own version of March Madness, continues with the back half of the Rounf of 32. After a week off, the OG’s of the show, Patrick & Dave, returned…and spearheaded a massive upset as the first #1 seed fell. A stunned Ray Cash could barely process the upset. Which top seed fell? You are going to have to tune in to find out as the Sweet 16 is now set.  All that plus the Nerds check out the trailer for Transformers One and the latest from M. Night Shyamalan, Trap.
