IMPACT News: Tonight’s IMPACT Wrestling Non-Spoiler Preview (7/19/18)

Published

on

Tonight’s episode of IMPACT Wrestling is the go-home show for Slammiversary. IMPACT has been building towards their biggest show of the summer and the card is shaping up nicely. All the titles will be on the line and someone will either lose their mask or hair that night.

With Slammiversary just three short days away here is the rundown for what IMPACT is advertising on the go-home show:

  • Aries and Moose Confrontation

Austin Aries and Moose have been going back and forth with each other for weeks now since the match was announced. We have seen video packages of how they got into the wrestling business and their personal lives. Last week we got to hear an update on Moose’s training from hiw friend and former professional football player DeAngelo Williams. This eventually lead to Aries assaulting Williams which lead to Moose “calling into the show” and telling Aries that he will be there next week and that he has made this personal. What will happen when champion and challenger come face to face for the first and only time before their huge match at Slammiversary?

  • The Prestigious One’s IMPACT Debut

Two weeks ago on IMPACT Wrestling in a backstage segment “The Prestigious One” Joe Hendry made his IMPACT debut and was introduced as Grado’s friend. Last week he accompanied Grado to the ring along eith Katerina for his match against former IMPACT World Champion Eli Drake. Drake would go on to win the match and try to flirt with Katarina before Hendry would step in. This post-match altercation lead us to tonight’s match. Hendry will be making his in-ring debut against Eli Drake. How will Hendry fare against the former world champion?

  • Sami Callihan

Last week oVe defeated Pentagon Jr, Fenix, and Rich Swann in a six man lucha rules tag team match. The match was highly praised and in the end Sami Callihan was able to pick up the win for oVe. Tonight will be his last match before his mask vs. hair match with Pentagon Jr. Will this be the last time we see Sami Callihan with hair or will he add another one of Pentagon’s mask to his collection?

  • Killer Kross vs. Petey Williams

Two weeks ago Killer Kross made his in-ring debut against Fallah Bahh. Kross would go on to win the match and begin a post match beatdown which lead to KM getting involved to save his partner. Unfortunately KM would suffer the same fate until Petey Williams would run down with a steel chair to make the save. Petey hasn’t forgotten about the attack backstage and is out for revenge. Will Petey get his revenge or will Killer Kross continue his reign of dominance?

  • Desi Hit Squad

Last week KM and Fallah Bahh were trying to get back on the same page and be friends again when they ran into the Desi Hit Squad. Words were exchange and Gama talked down about Americans which lead KM to challenging them to a tag match for tonight. Will the Desi Hit Squad add another W to their win column or wil KM and Fallah Bahh hand them their first lost?

  • Konnan addresses The OGz

Last week on IMPACT The OGz laid down a challenge to LAX in a 5150 street fight for the tag titles. Tonight Konnan will address the challenge and The OGz. What will Konnan have to say?

  • Tessa Blanchard & Shotzi Blackheart vs Keira Hogan & Allie

Last week Allie defeated Shotzi Blackheart in singles action who was making her IMPACT debut. Tonight Shotzi looks to avenge her loss as she teams up with Tessa Blanchard to take on the team of Keira Hogan and Allie. Will Tessa or Allie’s team pick up the win giving either knockout momentum heading into their match this Sunday at Slammiversary?

All this and more will be on tap tonight. Who will get the last bit of momentum heading into the 16th Anniversary show known as Slammiversary?

Mitchell’s AEW Continental Classic Update! (11/27/23)

What a start to the tournament!

Did your picks win points?

The AEW Continental Classic is underway, with almost everyone competing. Check in here if you haven’t seen the winners and losers of week 1!

Here are your Gold League standings!

  • Jon Moxley: 1-0, 3 points
  • Swerve Strickland: 1-0, 3 points
  • Jay White: 1-0, 3 points
  • Rush: 0-1, 0 points
  • Mark Briscoe: 0-1, 0 points.
  • Jay Lethal: 0-1, 0 points

Here are your Blue League standings!

  • Brody King: 1-0, 3 points
  • Claudio Castagnoli: 1-0, 3 points
  • Daniel Garcia: 0-1, 0 points
  • Eddie Kingston: 0-1, 0 points
  • Bryan Danielson: Yet to Compete
  • Andrade El Idolo: Yet to Compete

My Thoughts:

Nothing too crazy, nothing too wild, this tournament only just got started. The only disappointing point is that they could not get Bryan “cleared to compete” Saturday night. Not sure how much of that is shoot given the bad eye, but this was kinda the problem of wanting him in the tournament over tons of other choices. Bryan wants to face Okada for WrestleKingdom 18, how is Bryan supposed to do that at his best if he’s also gonna be in a round robin, doing five top level matches in about as many weeks? And it takes away from Andrade being able to do something. Also a little surprised we didn’t even hear from Andrade on Saturday.

Now as we heard on Saturday, round two’s matches are set. Gold League will see Mark Briscoe VS Rush, White VS Swerve, and of course, Moxley VS Lethal. Nice variety there, a couple 0-1 guys facing off, as well as two 1-0 guys, and then 1-0 VS 0-1. No offense to Lethal, but he feels like an 0-2 going up against Moxley. Hard to call the other ones but that’s the fun of it. Meanwhile, Blue League sees Brody VS Claudio in a showdown to be 2-0, then Bryan and Andrade finally jump in, Bryan against Eddie and Andrade against Garcia. Sadly, feels like Eddie and Garcia are going 0-2, no way Tony Khan is booking Bryan and Andrade to lose their first shots.

In fact, that could be half the reason they did wait on those two, that’s almost too good for just a first round opener. But I still would’ve done it, same as NJPW does stuff like that for round robins, which this is all modeled after anyway.
