IMPACT News: Non-Spoiler Preview For Tonight’s IMPACT Wrestling (8/9/18)

Published

on

Last week’s episode of IMPACT featured The Lucha Brothers defeating oVe in the main event and also featured a World Title match between Austin Aries and Dustin Cameron.

Tonight’s episode also features another World Title match and the return of Alisha Edwards to in-ring action.

Here is what’s happening on tonight’s episode:

  • Austin Aries vs. Eddie Edwards (IMPACT World Championship)

The Thursday after Slammiversary Austin Aries issued an open challenge to anyone to challenge him for the world championship. Eddie Edsards wol uld accept the challenge. Tonight Eddie looks to channel his craziness and capture the world championship for the second time. Will we see a new world champion tonight?

  • Pentagon Jr. vs. Matt Sydal

Pentagon Jr is coming off a heated rivalry with Sami Callihan and oVe. Just last week he and his lucha brother Fenix defeated oVe in a tag team main event. Sydal is coming off losing his X-Division championship at Slammiversary to Brian Cage and the rematch a week later. Sydal now is questioning himself and looks to bounce back with a victory over Pentagon.

  • The Desi Hit Squad vs. Taiji Ishimori & Petey Williams

Two weeks ago Petey Williams and Taji Ishimori went one on one with Ishimori pricking up the win. Kt was after the match that The Desi Hit Squad attacked them from behind so tonight Ishimori and Williams will be looking for revenge.

  • Alisha Edwards vs. Tessa Blanchard

We have not seen Alisha on IMPACT TV in some time now. The last time we saw her she was trying to reason with Eddie in the woods after his fight with Callihan. Last week she announced that she would be returning to action for IMPACT. Tonight she makes her return to the ring and will be taking on the buzzsaw known as Tessa Blanchard.

All this and more will be on tap for tonight’s show. Don’t forget to tune in to my live report during the show beginning at the top of the show.

WWE Elimination Chamber Results: WWE Championship Match

Was Daniel Bryan able to walk out of WWE Elimination Chamber still BOTH the Planet’s and WWE Champion?

WWE Elimination Chamber WWE Championship Match

Six men fought it out in the main event of WWE Elimination Chamber for The New Daniel Bryan’s WWE Championship. Did the Planet’s Champion retain?

The six men involved were:

  • Kofi Kingston (with Big E and Xavier Woods, starting in the near right pod)
  • Jeff Hardy (starting in the far right pod)
  • Randy Orton (starting in the near left pod)
  • AJ Styles (starting in the near left pod)
  • Samoa Joe (starting in the ring)
  • WWE Champion Daniel Bryan (with Eric Rowan, starting in the ring)

Kofi Kingston was THE fan’s favorite headed into this match. But he started in a pod, as the first two men in the match were Samoa Joe and WWE Champion Daniel Bryan (the Ring Of Honor fan in me is happy).

Order of events:

  • Daniel Bryan and Samoa Joe started the match at 0:00
  • Kofi Kingston entered the Chamber at 5:16
  • AJ Styles entered the Chamber at 10:27
  • AJ Styles eliminated Samoe Joe at 14:34
  • Jeff Hardy entered the Chamber at 15:14
  • Daniel Bryan eliminated Jeff Hardy at 17:58
  • Randy Orton entered the Chamber at 19:57
  • Randy Orton eliminated AJ Styles at 22:21
  • Kofi Kingston eliminated Randy Orton at 24:01
  • The final two men in the match were WWE Champion Daniel Bryan and Kofi Kingston
  • Daniel Bryan pinned Kofi Kingston at 36:35 to retain the WWE Championship

Daniel Bryan last eliminated Kofi Kingston to win the Elimination Chamber match and retain the WWE Championship

WWE Elimination Chamber Results: Baron Corbin vs. Braun Strowman

Did Baron Corbin survive a No DQ Match against Braun Strowman? #WWEChamber

WWE Elimination Chamber Braun Strowman Baron Corbin

Baron Corbin fought Braun Strowman in a No Disqualification Match in the fifth match at WWE Elimination Chamber.

Before Charlotte Flair and Ronda Rousey could get out of the ringside area, Baron Corbin made his entrance. He was followed by Braun Strowman and I had to wonder if we were running behind on time. Corbin threw his vest at Braun, and it allowed him to get an early advantage. Corbin got a Kendo Stick out from under the ring (they’re always under there!) and attacked Braun. Strowman got the stick, but (and I quote) “I don’t need a Kendo Stick to kick your ass!” Corbin would brilliantly throw a chair at Strowman during his “run laps around the ring” gimmick, and take control using the stairs.

Baron Corbin could only do so much, as the match was nearly put to rest thanks to a Braun Strowman powerslam at 6:21 (through a table). That would queue up Drew McIntyre’s music, as the Scottish Psychopath would serve as a distraction for Bobby Lashley to attack Braun. A Triple Powerbomb through two tables officially ended the match at 10:46.

Baron Corbin pinned Braun Strowman at 10:46 of a No Disqualification Match with help from Drew McIntyre and Bobby Lashley.
