ROH News: Marty Scurll & Former IMPACT Star Added To Survival Of The Fittest

As Ring Of Honor prepares to head out for Glory By Honor weekend tomorrow in Baltimore and then Sunday in Philadelphia, they’re also looking ahead to the 13th annual Survival Of The Fittest.

This year’s tournament will broadcast live for Honor Club members on Sunday, November 4th at Express Live in Columbus, Ohio and already feature the ROH debut of ‘Hot Sauce’ Tracy Williams, the first man to enter this year’s Survival Of The Fittest (read more about that here). Now, two more names have been announced.

Yesterday, ‘The Villain’ Marty Scurll was added to the 12-man field where first round winners will advance to a Six-Man Elimination match to determine who will get a future opportunity at the ROH World Championship. Today, ROH has announced the third entry, former IMPACT Wrestling star Andrew Everett who is making his first appearance in Ring Of Honor in three years:

The 13th annual Survival of the Fittest returns to Ring of Honor on Sunday November 4, emanating LIVE from Columbus, OH’s Express Live, broadcasting LIVE for all HonorClub Members! First-round match winners will compete in a six-man elimination match at the end of the night. The winner of the Survival of the Fittest Finals will receive a future Ring of Honor World Championship opportunity!

Eleven individuals have won the previous twelve Survival of the Fittest Tournaments, with seven out of eleven individual winners eventually winning the ROH World Championship! With the list of former winners a true who’s who of professional wrestling, including current ROH World Champion Jay Lethal, the only three-time ROH World Champion Adam Cole, Bryan Danielson, Roderick Strong, and more, this year’s winner has a chance to add their name to a list of legends with an opportunity to write their name in the history books as a potential future ROH World Champion.

The third entrant in this year’s tournament is a returning star last seen in ROH in 2015. A 2014 entrant in the Top Prospect Tournament, Andrew Everett returns for Survival of the Fittest after three years of traveling the world to show ROH fans that he is a top contender for the ROH World Championship!

Since Everett was last seen in ROH, he has captured championship gold in RevPro, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, and many other organizations across the globe! Trained by Matt and Jeff Hardy, Everett was 15 years old when he made his debut in 2007 and at just 26 years old, has over a decade of international experience under his belt. Everett’s high flying style makes him one of wrestling’s biggest risk takers but those risks have seen Everett pick up victories all over the globe with his stock rising every step of the way!

Everett’s growing resume shows he has what it takes to win Survival of the Fittest. Will he leave Columbus the number one contender for the ROH World Championship? Join us in Columbus or stream Survival of the Fittest LIVE for HonorClub to find out!

Survival of the Fittest returns on Sunday November 4 and will be broadcast LIVE for all HonorClub members! But there is no better way to experience the hard-hitting, in-your-face action of ROH than to do so LIVE! Limited tickets remain to this marquee event! Get yours NOW!

WWE News: Reported Original Plans For Kurt Angle’s Return

Kurt Angle Bald Haircut
Kurt Angle’s return at TLC is said to have not been the original plan!

Last night at WWE TLC, we finally got the answers we were seeking pertaining to the Braun Strowman vs. Baron Corbin Tables, Ladders and Chairs Match after much speculation regarding Strowman’s status following surgery to remove bone chips in his elbow a few weeks back.

As had been reported leading up to the show, Braun was not likely to be cleared for the match (see that here), but with so much on the line (if Corbin won he would become full-time RAW General Manager, if Strowman won he gets a Universal Title shot at Royal Rumble) and no changes announced in advance, WWE chose to have the match proceed in a much different way.

With help from Finn Balor, Bobby Roode, Chad Gable, Apollo Crews, Heath Slater and a returning Kurt Angle, ‘The Monster Among Men’ didn’t have to do anything to pick-up the victory and send Corbin packing from the GM’s office. Angle of course has not been seen since a loss to Drew McIntyre on RAW prior to Survivor Series in November, but according to one report his TLC appearance was not the original plan for his comeback.

Mike Johnson of PWInsider reports that original plans for the WWE Hall Of Famer would have seen him return tonight on RAW. However, after deciding to have WWE Chairman Vince McMahon appear on tonight’s show, the plans for Kurt were then switched around.

EA’s Take: I don’t know, I thought Angle showing up last night was perfect. It made complete sense, which is the most important piece and the crowd loved it. So even coming a day early, I think this could actually be better than whatever his original return plans were (which we don’t know). I’d still expect to see him tonight because I have to imagine that whatever Vince is going to say, part of it will likely address the General Manager situation.

WWE’s Akira Tozawa To Appear For Fight Club: Pro In Japan

Akira Tozawa
Fight Club: Pro will bring 205 Live’s Akira Tozawa to Japan!

This year the WWE has really made some strides in working more with other promotions, as we’ve seen more instances of WWE contracted Superstars working for the likes of EVOLVE, PROGRESS and others that the company has a relationship with.

Although Superstars are restricted to working only for companies the WWE works with, it still leads to some pretty cool matches, scenarios and circumstances for fans that they wouldn’t normally see. One such instance will be coming up in a few weeks as Fight Club: Pro, which is owned by NXT UK Superstar Trent Seven, will be debuting in Japan next month with one of the high-flyers of 205 Live scheduled to appear.

Former WWE Cruiserweight Champion Akira Tozawa will take part in a card at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo on Monday, January 7th. The event will also feature a number of stars from Sendai Girls including Meiko Satomura, who fans of course saw in this year’s Mae Young Classic. Additionally, also advertised that fans may be familiar with are Chris Brookes, Rickey Shane Page and Jimmy Havoc.
