NJPW and AXS TV set the scene for this Summer blockbuster!

The Rainmaker reigns once again after his long road to redemption. Madison Square Garden was the beginning of Kazuchika Okada’s fifth reign, and Okada would be successful in his first defense back in Japan. But a darker Chris Jericho has come back to NJPW to be the Painmaker that ruins the Rainmaker’s Summer. Can Okada keep going? Or will he regret playing with Y2J?

But before that, the Aerial Assassin, fresh off his Best of the Super Juniors victory, wants the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship back! Will Ospreay slayed the Muscle Dragon, Shingo Takagi, in the finals, but can he slay CMLL’s Dragon Lee? Or will Lee continue the reign that also started in Madison Square Garden?

Jon Moxley VS Shota Umino!

The Lunatic is free, and he has come to NJPW! He won the IWGP United States Championship in his debut, but will the Death Rider keep going strong as this Young Lion gets to show his stuff?

That third one still wasn’t, and Moxley headbutts Umino, only to run into a dropkick and a German Suplex! Bridging cover, TWO! Winner: Jon Moxley, by pinfall

That wasn’t as easy as Moxley thought, but he still puts the Young Lion away. When and where will the Death Rider strike again? How long will he be IWGP US Champion?

Moxley isn’t done, he grabs a mic. “I bring a message from Cincinnati, Ohio. Jon Moxley, international purveyor of violence, gentleman and all around sick son of a b*tch wants in on the G1!” A huge move for the newest star in NJPW! Will Moxley rise to the challenge of the G1 Climax to take it all?! Either way, he takes his belt, and Umino, with him to the back! Has the Young Lion won the veteran’s respect?

NJPW Media backstage interview

Moxley has a floundering Umino hold onto the IWGP US Championship belt for him as he compliments the Young Lion. “I like this kid. He could be my new Young Lion. I’m gonna need some help, I’m gonna need a partner.” A training partner, a guy to spot him on the bench, to drive him home from Roppongi. Does Umino drive? Well Moxley and his Young Boy will be fine. And Moxley made his intentions clear. “See you at the G1. Come, my friend.” Moxley helps Umino up and the two head out. Is this partnership really going to work out? And how is the Death Rider going to fare in his first G1 Climax tournament?

Something heavier. You get what he means, right? Osaka has an idea, but Takagi gets to the point. He also wants in on the G1!! It doesn’t matter the size, the talent, the toughness, Takagi will take them all down, “just the way I am.” That is all. The Muscle Dragon drops the mic and also wants in the big Summer tournament! Jericho grows frustrated, and tells Okada to “Stay down!” Jericho unties a buckle pad and tosses it at commentary. “You see what happens?! Huh!? You stupid son of a b*tch?!” Jericho drags Okada up, gut wrenches, but Okada slips out to German Suplex!

Okada holds onto Jericho with that waistlock and drags Jericho up. He wrings Jericho out but Jericho ducks the waistlock. Jericho wrings Okada out and tries to steal Rainmaker! But Okada ducks it, to steal Code Breaker! Cover, TWO!! Jericho survives his own move, but Okada has more to give. Okada gut wrenches for a JUMPING TOMBSTONE! And then wristlock, but Jericho ducks to roll Okada into the Walls! And Jericho sits in deep! But Okada powers up to head for ropes! Fans rally up as Jericho demands they ring the bell! Okada reaches but Jericho drags him away! And then turns for a Lion Tamer! Jericho goes old school for this one! But Okada rolls around to pop through and spin Jericho off!

Jericho and Okada crawl then stand. Okada runs in but is sent into the bare buckles! Jericho clotheslines Okada, then demands Okada stand! He wants to use that elbow, but Okada ducks Judas Effect! Okada wrings Jericho out but Jericho again dodges Rainmaker. Jericho jumps but Code Breaker is denied again, and Okada pops Jericho up. Jericho sunset flips but Okada sits on it! Okada wins!!

Winner: Kazuchika Okada, by pinfall; still IWGP Heavyweight Champion

But Jericho won’t take that sitting down! He hammers away on Okada! Jericho is a sore loser, and shoves Red Shoes away to keep punching Okada in the head. Jericho throws Red Shoes right out of the ring, to then fetch something else from under the ring. A steel chair! Jericho brings that into the ring, and as Okada stands up, Jericho SMACKS him in the face!! Fans boo and jeer as Jericho holds his weapon up high. Jericho waits for Okada to stand again, Judas Effect! Fans continue to boo as Jericho takes a seat in his chair.

Jericho drags Okada outside the ring and then wraps the chair around Okada’s head! And rams him into the post!! Fans boo even louder but Jericho just soaks it up. Jericho goes back to Okada and brings him around to that table. Jericho finally lifts Okada, but Tanahashi hops in to save Okada! Tanahashi goes after Jericho but Young Lions hurry to keep them apart. Jericho throws things as he retreats, not wanting to face The Ace right now. Jericho grabs a mic to tell “Tana Bakahashi” that if he wants to start stuff, just look at what happened to Okada. “The Painmaker never loses! The Painmaker always wins! Chris Jericho is the Greatest of All Time, even here in this bulls*it country of Japan.” Osaka boos even more while Jericho says he’ll see them both later. “Happy Championship, B*tch!”

Tanahashi is still seething as Jericho heads up the ring. Jericho grabs Okada dollars and wipes the sweat from his pits. The Young Lions turn their attention to helping Okada while Jericho grabs more Okada dollars. He sticks one to his forehead, then rubs the other down his pants to throw at the camera. Jericho’s crude displays aside, when and where will he man up to face The Ace? Will Jericho also get another shot at Okada and the IWGP Heavyweight Championship? What even is the state of Okada after Jericho’s sore loser attack? Tanahashi helps Okada stand and head to the back, these two rivals again on the same side.

NJPW Media backstage interviews

Chris Jericho (with that Okada dollar still stuck to his head) says if Okada wants to know what a Painmaker is, ask if he understands now. He probably can’t even talk. No event closing speech from him tonight, that’s for sure. But Jericho will speak for him. “Hello, my name is Okada. Chris Jericho just kicked my ass.”

Jericho wants to know if Okada will be in the G1 this year. And Tanahashi, for that matter. If so, then maybe Jericho will be in it, too. Jericho will beat up Moxley, too, since he still owes Jericho $15,000 from ripping up that LED jacket three years ago in the WWE. Even that “little bastard, Kenta,” he’ll beat him, too. All the G1 field, for that matter. He’ll become Chris G1-icho, how about that? A major move for the Best in the World at What He Does, but will he’s the best in NJPW against the best in NJPW?

My Thoughts:

These two-hour nights for NJPW on AXS are so great! We are getting so much more of these events now, but I suppose Best of the Super Juniors Finals and Dominion are big enough to warrant it. Moxley makes his squash match with Umino even better by deciding Umino is his “Young Boy.” I wonder if this will really continue as the kayfabe for Moxley in NJPW. If this were an American promotion, we’d be getting goofy gags with them, which would actually be fun to see on social media. Takagi VS Kojima was a great match between these heavy hitters, and Kojima of course gives Takagi the rub by putting him over. Then the Six Man Tag was mostly filler, but it was a good match to keep Tanahashi going in his newest comeback.

Hooray to finally see Hideo Itami/Kenta somewhere! Granted, he got hurt a lot while in NXT and WWE, but when he was finally ready to go, they didn’t let him go full speed. Now in NJPW, and hopefully by extension ROH, Kenta really can show us what he’s capable of. Lee VS Ospreay, another amazing match for the Aerial Assassin. Just when it seemed like there wasn’t another way to recreate the spot where Ospreay lands on his feet out of a steiner, they do this one. Ospreay winning makes a lot of sense, as he is the BOSJ 26 winner, is moving to Japan to truly be full-time for NJPW, and is making a push to be an even bigger big name for the company. We got so many declarations for the G1 Climax this year, this field is looking amazing.

And of course, Okada VS Jericho was amazing, too! Two greats, who knew the other pretty well but especially Jericho knowing Okada. Okada wins but with a surprise cover, so that keeps Jericho strong for a rematch. Of course, Jericho going after Okada after totally fits his “Evil Jericho” persona. It also gives Tanahashi his heroic moment in saving Okada. Jericho was great in his promo, too, as he just straight face talks with that Okada dollar stuck to his head. And great continuity to even reference his WWE feud with Moxley/Ambrose. Jericho VS Tanahashi better happen in the G1, but I would also hope at the right moment. It either needs to open Block competition, or close a Block to lead to the G1 Climax Finals. And either way, Jericho VS Tanahashi will be amazing.

My Score: 9.3/10

The Way is ALREADY out of the Dusty Cup! And furthermore, Kushida has again pinned the North American Champion! Will Kushida be on the path for not just one but two titles in 2021?

Pete Dunne speaks.

“Finn Balor, whether you want to admit it or not, you know full well me and you are cut from the same cloth.” Same humble beginnings in the UK, but here’s what’s different. Balor left, while Dunne “built an entire brand. I made NXT UK! And what do I get as a thank you? I constantly get compared to you and what you’ve done.” Balor said everyone wants to face the champ so Dunne needs to get in line. What does he mean by that? Dunne is the REAL threat to the NXT Championship. Balor claims he doesn’t watch the business, but surely he’s been watching Dunne these last few years.

We all know that this is inevitable. And this time, Balor can’t just leave. He will pass the torch. History will speak well of Balor, but will speak better of Dunne. “The day that me and you finally meet, people will finally realize that you’ve just been taking part in MY legacy.” Will the Bruiserweight be the one to dethrone the Prince?

Backstage interview with Malcolm Bivens.

What’s he waiting outside of William Regal’s for? Well he and Tyler Rust are waiting for a presentation to Regal. Rust is the future of NXT. He is no rookie, he is the #DiamondintheRust! Rust will be a future North American Champion, a future NXT Champion, and- Rust finishes his talk with Regal and thanks Regal for this, promising that Regal won’t regret it. Bivens is surprised and Rust apologizes, he got here early and already had his talk with Regal. The match is made for tonight! Rust VS Bronson Reed! Bivens isn’t quite as happy about this, that wasn’t the direction Bivens was hoping for. But what’s done is done. Bivens says Rust is going straight to the top and he has a match to win. Rust is the future, but how far in the future will it be when he’s headed for a colossal obstacle?

Karrion Kross w/ Scarlett Bordeaux VS Ashante “Thee” Adonis w/ Desmond Troy!

While Dunne wants after the NXT Champion, Mr. Doomsday never lost it! Will Kross get back to the title and bring the apocalypse with him?

The bell rings and Kross circles with Adonis. Adonis kicks but Kross doesn’t flinch! Adonis throws a forearm but Kross just grits his teeth. Adonis somehow gets back up, only for Kross to say TIME’S UP! BLINDSIDE FOREARM!! Cover, Kross wins!

Winner: Karrion Kross, by pinfall

The countdown to the inevitable has certainly begun, but will it be Kross who takes that title from Balor, not Dunne? But wait, Kross isn’t done! He goes after Troy, who was just checking on his Dusty Cup tag team partner! KROSSJACKET!! Troy flails, but he passes out! Kross shows no mercy, will that be the same for anyone on the path back to the title?

NXT takes a closer look at MSK.

Nash Carter tells Wes Lee he’s about to throw off the other tag teams. “MSK, Wes Lee and Nash Carter, number tag team in all of NXT!” How is a Borat impersonation going to do anything? “Because I’m number one!” Very nice, yes! But who are MSK? Nash and Lee came together by fate and now they’re family. They impressed against Isaiah “Swerve” Scott and Jake Atlas, and even other NXT superstars like Ember Moon gives them credit for being so innovative and precise. All the hard work, dedication, blood, sweat and tears… They’re getting teary-eyed just thinking about that Dusty Cup. They’ve fought for so long, and now they’re finally here. This is everything to them. But will they make another impressive impact in the second round?

Mercedes Martinez & Toni Storm speak.

They tell Kacy Catanzaro & Kayden Carter, “being best friends means absolutely nothing in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.” Toni and Mercedes don’t need to be friends, they’re just two tough women with a common interest. So for all they care, KC and KC can go preheat an EZ Bake Oven, practice some cartwheels, and then maybe work on a TikTok video. Because what Mercedes did to Io Shirai will be nothing compared to what she and Toni do to them tonight! Enjoy the first round exit, though. Will the combined forces of Mean Mercedes and The Lightning From Down Under be greater then KC Squared?

Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Opening Round: Imperium VS Lucha House Party!

Marcel Barthel & Fabian Aichner have been NXT Tag Team Champions before, but they wish to return to the top and keep the mat sacred! Will Lince Dorado and Gran Metalik change those plans and make the Dusty Cup #LuchaLit?

As for Imperium, ALEXANDER WOLFE returns to NXT USA, and he looks a bit disappointed in Aichner and Barthel. Will the Hatchet Man get his compatriots back on top on behalf of the Ring General, Walter?

NXT shares the Fight Pit weigh-in from earlier today.

Tommaso Ciampa steps on the scale to officially weigh in at 201 pounds. Ciampa double guns to show off the lean, mean fighting machine, then Timothy Thatcher takes his turn. Thatcher officially weighs in at 225 pounds, quite the gap between him and Ciampa. Regal wishes both men best of luck, and Ciampa offers a handshake. Thatcher shoves him instead! Ciampa wants after Thatcher but he has to save it for tonight! Will they both leave it all inside the Fight Pit?

Backstage interview with Finn Balor.

He’s heading to William Regal’s office and barges in. Balor says Regal knows why he’s here: Balor wants Pete Dunne. But Balor already knows the games Dunne is playing, they’re all from Balor’s old playbook. So Balor wants to start with Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch. “First I’ll chop off the arms, then I’ll chop off the head.” Regal understands how Balor feels but he has to protect Balor from himself. After what happened last week, Balor can’t fight them all alone. So Regal says Balor should find a tag team partner. Regal should know Balor better than anyone. Balor doesn’t have friends, that’s the old Finn. All Balor has now are enemies. Then keep your enemies closer. Balor leaves, but will he find someone willing to fight alongside him against the would-be Kings of NXT?

Swerve tells Reed to not get in his business again. But then wishes him “luck” out there. Will Swerve’s words get in Reed’s head as he heads for the ring?

BREAKING NEWS!

After what happened to both Ashante “Thee” Adonis and Desmond Troy at the hands of Karrion Kross, Adonis’ injury won’t let him compete this Friday on 205 Live, where he and Troy would be competing in the Dusty Cup. Speaking of the Dusty Cup, KC Squared run in and are PUMPED for their win! Congratulations are in order, and they say this is what they told us would happen! No one believed in them, but they said they’d win and go down in the history books. They just beat two of the toughest women in NXT and are going to win the whole thing. Say it again! “We’re going to win the whole thing!” Will KC Squared continue to rise into immortality?

Tyler Rust w/ Malcolm Bivens VS Bronson Reed!

Bivens Enterprise’s current client kinda stepped in it, talking to Regal without Bivens being present. But will they keep this from being a huge setback in Rust’s rise to the top? Or is there no getting past Auszilla when you’re across from him in the ring?

The bell rings and Reed circles with Rust. Rust dodges the grapple and kicks, but Reed stays up. Rust gets around to get an arm and wrenches but Reed pushes him off. Rust comes back to get the arm again but Reed is the one with the killer knuckle lock! Rust spins through, keylocks, but Reed powers him away and headlocks. Reed grinds Rust but Rust powers up. Rust tries to power out but Reed holds on tight. Fans rally, Rust pulls hair and puts Reed on ropes. The ref counts, Rust lets off and then kicks the arm! Rust dodges Reed, things speed up and Reed BLASTS Rust out of the ring with that shoulder!

Bivens coaches Rust up and says he’s got this. Rust gets up and gets back in, dodges Reed but Reed blocks the kick to give the kick. Reed trophy lifts Rust then drops him to a GUT BUSTER! And then dead lifts him for a FALL AWAY SLAM! Rust sits on the apron as he catches his breath but Bivens says to use his brains against Reed’s brawn. But Reed drags Rust up, only for Rust to wrench the arm and hotshot it! Rust hurries after the arm, ARMBREAKER DDT!

Whoa, something big is happening backstage! Clearly Toni and Mercedes found out Shirai screwed them over, and they’re after her in the locker room! The refs and security keep them apart but is that easier said than done?

Back to the ring, Rust KICKS at Reed’s arm, and again and again. Rust throws uppercuts to the arm but Reed ROCKS Rust with a right! Rust kicks the arm, throws more uppercuts, but Reed swats the kick and throws a forearm to the chest! Reed clobbers Rust over and over, then whips him to ropes for a BODY CHECK! Fans fire up with Reed as he corner splashes Rust! Reed choke grips to CHOKE SLAM! Cover, TWO!! Rust survives but Reed keeps his cool. Reed climbs up the corner, Rust hurries up and ROCKS Reed with a right! Rust climbs, goes after the arm, and double wristlocks! The ref counts, Reed uses one body shot to get Rust away, but Rust comes back to BOOT him!

Rust wants to fireman’s carry Reed, and gets him long enough for a SAMOAN DROP! Cover, TWO! Rust keeps on Reed with a cravat but the driver is thrown off! Reed drops a back senton, then goes up top! TSUNAMI SPLASH!! Cover, Reed wins!

Winner: Bronson Reed, by pinfall

Rust still shows promise, but Reed is just too much for a normal man! Will Reed crush the competition on his way back to title contention?

Another backstage interview with Finn Balor!

Given what Regal told him about taking on Oney & Danny, Balor just needs to find a tag team partner. The Prince says there are some people around here that owe him a favor, so maybe they’ll have a little chat. Will Balor get himself a tag team partner to go after the Bruiserweight’s BritAm Brawlers?

Finn Balor finds the Undisputed Era.

Adam Cole says, “Look what the cat dragged in, fellas.” Balor says the cat is looking for payback. They’re all grown men. Kyle O’Reilly knows why Balor is here. Is he in? Or is he still sucking meals through a straw? Roderick Strong gets heated but Cole has him stand down. Balor waits on Kyle’s answer. The answer is yes. Then see you next week. See you then, champ. Kyle and Balor put each other through hell as opponents, will they put Oney & Danny through even worse as allies?

El Legado del Fantasma is here!

Raul Mendoza and Joaquin Wilde are already in the ring as Santos Escobar walks around. “A real champion does what he wants, when he wants. You are looking at the champion of champion, the NXT Cruiserweight Champion, El Campeon, Santos Escobar.” Escobar explains to us what a true champion is. “A champion of champions doesn’t have to conquer a curse like Johnny Gargano. A champion of champions doesn’t have a glass jaw like Finn Balor.” Some people try to act like a champion, with badass cars and pretty mamacitas, with all the pomp and circumstance, like Karrion Kross! But when it’s time to prove themselves, they don’t make it to their first title defense!

Escobar has Mendoza hold onto the belt as he continues to boast. “I guess carrying a title is a heavy, heavy chip on your shoulders.” Escobar joins the others in the ring as he says, “I back up every word that I have said. And I have beaten every single person that has been on my path.” Now, even Gran Metalik and Lince Dorado came to NXT to try and destroy Escobar’s empire! But he sent them packing. Now to Raul and Joaquin, they won their first match in the Dusty Cup, and that puts them one step closer to becoming the NXT Tag Team Champions, joining Escobar as the champions of champions. LOS CAMPEONES!

But speaking of LHP, they return! Lince and Metalik don’t want to wait until round tow, they go after Legado already! But Mendoza and Wilde stomp and club them down! They set Lince up for Escobar as he climbs up, but then CURT STALLION trips him up! LHP DOUBLE SUPERKICK Legado out, and Stallion DECKS Escobar on top of them! It seems Escobar forgot that the Lonestar has his title shot up his sleeve! Will Stallion, Lince and Metalik make sure El Legado are NEVER the Champions of Champions in NXT?

Backstage interview with Killian Dain & Drake Maverick.

Congratulations are in order for their win on 205 Live and in the Dusty Cup, putting them into the quarterfinals. But they’re next up against MSK. How are they feeling? Maverick speaks up and interrupts Dain, saying that while last year got off to a rocky start for him, this year will be big! Maverick’s got an ally who will always have his back. It’s his best friend and tag team partner, Killian Dain! Maverick knows how great MSK is, they want to come right into the Dusty Classic and win it all, but they won’t! Because the team that will win this will storm into the tournament, go all the way to the finals and stand tall with the trophy! That team is none other than Maverick and Dain!

Dain is impressed by that little speech, and gives Maverick a hard pat on the shoulder. Maverick still doesn’t have Dain’s contact info, though. Will the oddest of odd couples be the ones to shock the world and win the Dusty Cup?

Backstage interview with Curt Stallion and Lucha House Party!

A couple months ago, the Lonestar earned his shot at the NXT Cruiserweight Championship. Tonight, he went out there to embarrass Escobar and it won’t stop until he gets his shot! El Legado heads in and referees keep the peace. Escobar says if Stallion wants to interrupt and ruin his message to the world, then Escobar will destroy him. But not now, because he’ll make sure to expose Stallion as the rookie he is NEXT WEEK, with the title on the line! Legado leaves and Stallion finally has his match! Will the fall of Fantasma begin this close to TakeOver: Valentine’s Day?

Fight Pit: Timothy Thatcher VS Tommaso Ciampa!

A battle originally meant for New Year’s Evil had to be delayed because NXT wanted to make sure both men went into this as close to 100% as possible. This is only the second Fight Pit ever, but the Professor of Pain has a huge advantage by being one of the two men in the original! Will he teach the Psycho Killer that he has all the grit he needs to stand atop the brand? Or will Ciampa show Thatcher that even he has much to learn?

NXT returns and both men make their entrances. The introductions are made, the rules are reviewed, and the only way to win is by submission or knockout! The bell rings, and this grittiest of grudge matches finally begins!

Ciampa and Thatcher don’t drop down right away, they circle on the upper ledge first. Ciampa pursues but Thatcher backs away, and then they rush each other with fast hands! Ciampa clubs away on Thatcher, has him against railing, and wants to dump him out?! Thatcher resists, Ciampa KNEES him against the railing, but Thatcher comes back with uppercuts! Thatcher ROCKS Ciampa with more EuroUppers, then he chokes Ciampa on the railing! Fans rally and Thatcher throws body shots and forearms! Thatcher brings Ciampa around for more uppercuts, then half hatch suplexes Ciampa! What a thud off the wooden platform!

Thatcher heel hooks a leg and KICKS away on Ciampa’s back! Ciampa keeps from falling over the edge as Thatcher tries to turn him, and Ciampa kicks Thatcher away! Ciampa gets up, runs in and BOOTS Thatcher down! Ciampa kicks Thatcher and throws down haymakers! And then he stomps away at the railing! Thatcher scrambles up but Ciampa CHOPS! Thatcher throws a forearm but Ciampa gives it back! Ciampa CHOPS again, and again! Thatcher is against railing as he grits his teeth, but Ciampa throws more forearms. Thatcher throws body shots and forearms in return, then knees Ciampa in the ribs!

Thatcher drags Ciampa up for more forearms then stalks him along the platform. Ciampa blocks a bump off the railing, pulls on Thatcher’s ear then ROCKS him with a haymaker! Ciampa stomps Thatcher then digs his boot into his head! Ciampa fish hooks Thatcher’s face, then gets the legs to stomp the stomach! Ciampa tries to scrape Thatcher through railing and off the top but Thatcher holds onto railing! Ciampa gets the legs to GUILLOTINE CATAPULT Thatcher into the bars! Thatcher is gasping and crawling while Ciampa applauds himself and pats himself on the back, and NXT goes picture in picture!

Ciampa sees Thatcher crawling and finally heading into the pit. But Ciampa stomps Thatcher’s hands and makes him fall down into it! Ciampa climbs down to join Thatcher and digs his face into the steel fencing! Ciampa lets off and Thatcher crawls, only for Ciampa to dig his face into the fencing on that side! Ciampa CLUBS Thatcher down, but Thatcher goes after a leg! Thatcher gets Ciampa down, digs forearms into Ciampa’s face and goes to turn him. Ciampa resists but Thatcher just smothers him with the forearm. Ciampa tweaks Thatcher’s fingers! Ciampa CHOPS, Thatcher EuroUppers! Thatcher looms over Ciampa, KNEES him in the back, then sits him up for a chinlock.

Ciampa endures as Thatcher grinds him down. Ciampa fights his way up, throws body shots but Thatcher clubs him back. NXT returns to single picture as Thatcher whips Ciampa but Ciampa stops from hitting steel fencing. Ciampa elbows Thatcher back, then throws Thatcher into the fencing! And again! And again! Ciampa then runs side to side to KNEE Thatcher into the steel! The ref checks on Thatcher and starts a count. If Thatcher doesn’t stand up before 10, it’s a technical knockout. Thatcher is up at 6, but Ciampa is on him with underhooks! Thatcher resists, and throws Ciampa into the corner where there’s only bare post!

Ciampa writhes and clutches his shoulder but Thatcher is after that arm! Thatcher stands on Ciampa’s head, pulls on an arm, then drags Ciampa to the corner. Thatcher puts the arm in the gap, but Ciampa kicks Thatcher away! Fans fire up as Ciampa and Thatcher rise. Ciampa CHOPS, and CHOPS, but Thatcher clinches, rams Ciampa into fencing then BELLY2BELLY SUPLEXES! Thatcher is after the arm for a double wristlock! Ciampa endures, moves around, but Thatcher mounts for a ground ‘n’ pound of forearms! Thatcher tortures the fingers, twists the wrist, and JAMS them into the mat! Ciampa clutches his hand and Thatcher has a sadistic grin!

Thatcher stalks Ciampa but Ciampa throws him into the steel! Thatcher slowly rises but Ciampa is up to trip him! And CATAPULTS him into steel! Thatcher falls back onto Ciampa’s knees! Ciampa has a HALF CRAB! Then he KICKS Thatcher in the back! Ciampa rains down rights but Thatcher kicks back! Ciampa stomps, rains down more rights, then goes after a leg again. Thatcher boots Ciampa into the steel! Thatcher stalks Ciampa, clamps onto the head and has a SLEEPER HOLD! Ciampa flails but there are no ropebreaks when there are no ropes! Ciampa still grabs the steel, and then LOW BLOW MULE KICKS! No disqualifications in the Fight Pit, either!

The ref checks on Thatcher but Thatcher grabs at Ciampa over the ref’s back! Ciampa uses the leverage for WILLOW’S BELL!! But Ciampa can’t win off a cover, he wants to know if that knocked Thatcher out! The ref starts a count, Thatcher is still conscious but he has to get up before 10! The count is 5, then 6! Thatcher uses the cage and drags himself up at 9.9! But Ciampa CLOBBERS him, underhooks, but Thatcher spins out to throw EuroUppers! Ciampa forearms, they’re brawling back and forth with fury! The fans are fired up as Ciampa CHOPS but Thatcher tackles him into steel!

Ciampa throws elbows, has a facelock, and he RAMS Thatcher into steel! FAIRYTALE ENDING!! And then a SLEEPER HOLD!! Ciampa wants Thatcher to pass out, but Thatcher fights up! And scoops Ciampa to RAM him into the steel! Thatcher gets Ciampa in a sleeper hold of his own, but Ciampa uses the corner to go up! Thatcher shoves Ciampa into the corner! Thatcher CLUBS Ciampa over and over and over, then has the leg trapped in the girder! HANGING STRETCH MUFFLER!! Ciampa shouts in pain, he TAPS! THATCHER WINS!!

Winner: Timothy Thatcher, by submission

Undefeated in the Fight Pit, it is truly the site of Professor of Pain’s masterclass in mauling and mangling the human body! Has Thatcher proven once and for all that he is the toughest man in NXT? But perhaps most shocking of all, Thatcher goes over to Ciampa, to nod respect to him! Is the feeling mutual after what they just put each other through?

My Thoughts:

A great episode! We got three great Dusty Cup matches, with some rather surprising outcomes. The Way VS KUSHIDA & Ruff was a great opener, and I really thought it was going to go the other way with Gargano and Theory getting this win so that they’d have something to fall back on if Kushida takes the title from Gargano. But now I feel like it’ll be Gargano retaining so that Kushida and Ruff can continue on in this tournament. Imperium VS LHP was another great match with another surprise. Though, story did dictate we get LHP VS Legado del Fantasma again to continue their story of battling over lucha libre, as also made clear with the Legado segment.

Speaking of that segment, a damn shame Stallion is a nobody to even NXT commentary outside of Vic Joseph, who is on 205 Live’s commentary. This just proves what I’ve been saying about the blending of the brands needs to be stronger because I’m pretty sure many NXT fans were just as lost as Wade Barrett was. We also got a great surprise in Wolfe showing up when last we knew, he was still in the UK for NXT UK. I suppose Walter doesn’t need Imperium backing up as no faction is trying to go after him, but I would’ve thought Wolfe would stay and go after the Heritage Cup. Maybe Wolfe finds his way into the North American Championship scene while he’s here.

The Women’s Dusty Cup had a great introduction from Regal and Beth, and we got a very good opening match between Toni-Mercedes VS KC Squared. Shirai showing up was a great surprise, and naturally she pulls Mercedes and Toni back towards the title story. Kacy should be careful with that unique corkscrew move of hers, she could’ve taken herself out since she was only half on Toni’s back. Raquel & Dakota being in the tournament was as much a given as The Way’s LeRae & Indi were, even with Raquel having that great Last Woman Standing win over Rhea. And I like that we’re getting the newest additions in the tournament already, it’ll be a great way to show their skills from the start.

Speaking of new additions, MSK had a good promo but it didn’t really explain much about who they are, which was supposed to be the point. For one, why is it “MSK?” What does that stand for when their names are “Nash Carter” and “Wes Lee?” Will we finally get that explanation when they win again? And while Dain and Maverick are a great duo and Maverick had a great promo of his own, I don’t think they’re winning against MSK. Rust definitely wasn’t beating Reed tonight but it was a great way to give him and Bivens some story. Bivens is trying to do things in Rust’s best interest but he’s just not getting it, so maybe Bivens needs to get a bit stern with him until Rust is actually champion.

Dunne had a really good promo on Balor, and Balor’s response was natural. I like that Balor said having friends and a team and all that was the old Balor, even older than being in the WWE. But it also makes some sense that he and the UE would team up against Oney & Danny, and with Cole & Strong in the Dusty Cup, Kyle was the obvious choice. Though that’s not to say Kyle was by default, the story between him and Finn made that the natural choice, and it is going to be awesome to see them brawl with the BritAm Brawlers. Kross destroying Adonis & #DesTroy seems to be a way of writing those two out of the tournament and possibly putting a losing team back in, or surprising us with a completely new team. Dare I say that Balor & O’Reilly could end up that team after what they do to the tag champs? Would Balor make history as a two-time Dusty Cup winner?

And then the Fight Pit was a great main event, and a story unique from the original. Staying up top and fighting up there for an extended time was a nice way of changing this match up in only its second edition, and it was a natural choice that Thatcher would win. Thatcher should have the Fight Pit as “his match” just as much as Taker had the Casket Match (among a few others), and it could easily be made so that whoever finally beats him in the Fight Pit looks like a million bucks. I wonder if there will ever be a title match inside the Fight Pit. That’d be pretty awesome, since they already treated this one like a title match with the introductions and dramatic lighting.

My Score: 9.3/10

The Dark Order is here!

It’s a huge birthday bash for Negative One, Brodie Lee Junior! The cake is there, the candles are lit, and fans cheer on, “Happy Birthday!” John Silver says tonight is a very special night and fans cheer in agreement. Firstly, the Dark Order is going to get a new recruit in “a handsome cowboy,” Hangman Page! But second of all, it’s someone’s birthday~! Just looking t this cake is making #JohnnyHungy! But let’s all sing a Happy Birthday to Brodie Junior! A one, a two, a skiddily diddily doo! Happy Birthday to You~! But then Luther and Serpentico crash the party! They don’t care about birthdays! AEW is becoming a DAYCARE CENTER!

Luther tells “Punky Brewster,” if he wants to come out on AEW Dark and talk smack on him and how he looks stupid with the ball on his head…! Fans chant “You Look Stupid!” Well first, Luther’s face is perfectly symmetrical! And second, Negative One has all these halfwits in masks and with their jagged teeth, THEY look stupid! Chaos Project does not like kids, and does not like them! They’re going to RUIN Brodie’s birthday! The Dark Order fires back with fists! But Jack Evans and Angelico hurry out to reinforce their tag partners! Here comes Hangman! Hangman LEAPS off the stage and onto everyone! The Dark Order cheers, but is Hangman really joining up with them?

8 Man Tag: Hangman & The Dark Order VS Chaos Project & The Hybrid2!

The bell rings and Silver stalks Angelico in the ring. Alex Reynolds joins in, they double whip and flapjack EUROUPPER! Cover, but Evans breaks it in time! Silver throws forearms on Evans and hits him so hard, Evans flies out of the ring! But Angelico DECKS Silver, then tags in Luther. They mug Silver, Luther reels Silver in for a butterfly suplex! Cover, ONE! Luther tags Serpentico in, and he is the SNAKEMAN weapon, scoop slam senton! Serpentico staggers up, tags Evans, and then Luther uses Evans as a weapon for another scoop slam senton! Tag to Angelico, and Angelico holds Silver there, for Luther to BULLDOG SPLASH Angelico onto him! Cover, TWO!

Angelico drags Silver up, bumps him off buckles, then tags Serpentico in. Serpentico throws hands on Silver, snapmares and KICKS him! Fans rally as Serpentico fish hooks Silver into a chinlock. Silver endures, the ref reprimands the hooks but Silver fights up to throw body shots. Serpentico throws haymakers back and then has Silver in a corner. Serpentico whips corner to corner and Silver hits buckles. Serpentico runs in but Silver FLAPJACKS him to buckles! Serpentico fixes his head but runs into a BOOT! Tag to Hangman! Hangman rallies on Chaos Project and TH2 with forearms and BOOTS! SPINEBUSTER for Evans!

Fans fire up with Hangman as he runs at Angelico to corner clothesline! Then one for Serpentico, one for Evans, then back to Serpentico. Serpentico SUPERKICKS, but he leaps into an OVERHEAD SUPLEX! Cover, but TH2 breaks it! Now a brawl breaks out again! The Dark Order throws TH2 out, Silver whips Reynolds in at Serpentico but Serpentico tosses him out! Silver runs in, but Serpentico puts him on the apron. Colt Cabana runs in but Serpentico avoids the Flying Apple. Cabana goes up, Hangman ROLLING ELBOWS Serpentico into Cabana’s FLYING ELBOW! Cabana sees Angelico getting in, and suckers him into Hangman’s FALL AWAY SLAM!

Hangman kips up and PLANCHAS but Evans moves! Evans is on the apron, but Hangman avoids his spinning kick! Silver is on the apron now and CANNONBALLS into Evans, to then EuroUpper Angelico against railing! Silver runs at Chaos Project but they dodge, only for Reynolds to FLY in! Direct hit, and the Dark Order set things up for Hangman, SUPER MOONSAULT! Fans are thunderous as Hangman drags Serpentico up and into the ring. Hangman tags Cabana in, Cabana scoop slams Serpentico, and then the Good, the Bad and the Hungy combine in a HUGE backpack SENTON! Cover, TWO!! Serpentico survives but Cabana keeps his focus.

Tag to Reynolds, Cabana goes up and the Beaver Boys hoist Serpentico up. Luther gets in and shoves Cabana down! Serpentico shoves Reynolds into Silver, roll through, SUPERKICK and basement DDT! Evans springboards in with the 450 SPLASH! Cover but Hangman breaks it in time! Evans throws Hangman out, then slingshots after him, into a POWEBOMB onto Angelico in the crowd! Luther drags Cabana up the ramp and to the stage! Oh no, the cake is unguarded! Wait, Negative One runs over and SMACKS Luther with the kendo stick! Luther glares at him, but then Cabana FLAPJACKS Luther onto the cake!

Back in the ring, Reynolds whips Serpentico into the corner, Silver ENZIGURIS, then they unleash the Beaver Boy Blitz! Forearm, enziguri, STUNNER, and Hangman adds the BUCK SHOT to the GERMAN! Bridging and jackknife, Hangman and the Dark Order win!

Winners: Hangman Page & The Dark Order, by pinfall

Luther is furious in the frosting as the Good, the Bad, the Hungy and the BOOM BOOM take the win! And to add on, Negative One says Serpentico tried to ruin the birthday. But that’s not how it works. KENDO STICK SMACK! “My birthday was three days ago, you idiots!” And he throws papers at Chaos Project! But Silver grabs a mic to address business. Hangman is so good and amazing! But also, he’s really handsome and has nice hair. Now, it’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for. Will Hangman #JoinDarkOrder? Silver is even on bended knee! Hangman’s answer is…? “I can’t.”

Wait what? No, stop the confetti! He said no! He said no! The Dark Order didn’t hear that until it’s pointed out by Hangman. As fun as all this has been, he tried saying this before but he was put in a tough spot. Hangman’s done the faction thing before, and it didn’t really work out for him. He’s sorry, but he has to decline. The Dark Order doesn’t understand, and now the good mood has been deflated. Will the Dark Order figure out how to get Hangman to change his mind? Or will they have to move on from this rejection and find someone else?

Backstage interview with Chris Jericho and MJF!

Ahead of the Inner Circle Tag Team Challenge, Alex Marvez wants their thoughts. Please stop, your breath is worse than a rat orgy inside a running microwave. But MJF wants to be honest with Jericho. The last thing he wants to see is this match breaking up the Inner Circle. Isn’t Jericho a little worried about that? Jericho is NOT worried. Tonight will be something that brings the group together and stronger than ever before. It is a promise, a pact, a gentlemen’s agreement of sexy hooligans to decide which combination moves forward to go after the AEW World Tag Team Championships!

No matter what happens, they have a deal that they will move on as a unit. Santana & Ortiz VS Sammy & Hager VS Jericho & MJF! And guess who wins tonight, Marvez! Jericho? Exactly, you stupid idiot! MJF agrees with Jericho, this will make the Inner Circle stronger. They are Christopher and Maxwell, they are better than you and you know it, because they are the next AEW World Tag Team Champions! But will that be the case when this is their first outing as a tag team?

AEW returns to Tony Schiavone in the ring!

“It was one week ago in this ring that Darby Allin retained the TNT Championship in a sensational win over Brian Cage of Team Taz!” We also saw Sting show up to help Darby out against Team Taz, too! Sting wants to say something, perhaps congratulate Darby, so here is… STIIIIING~! The snow, the crow, and the icon! And now, the TNT Champion, Darby Allin! The Relentless Face of TNT makes his way out with belt in hand. He joins Schiavone and Sting in the ring and fans cheer. Schiavone hands the mic to Sting and Sting says, “First of all, I want to say that there’s something that reminds me about me in you, and I kinda like it.” Darby is a great wrestler, and Sting wants to be the first to publicly congratulate him as being our TNT Champion.

Second, Sting wants everyone to understand that he wasn’t here to interrupt last week. He just wanted to keep things fair as Darby defended his title. But from somewhere, Taz is on the mic and he’s telling Sting to shut up! Team Taz is on the titantron and Taz says “fair fight, my ass!” Sting had a baseball bat, he storms out during the TNT title match, and he attacks Ricky Starks! Darby, during that match, had his leather belt and tried to hogtie Cage’s legs like he’s some piece of cattle! They fight dirty! They fight street style! Team Taz are “gentlemen.” Taz grew up in the streets, do your homework! These men are street fighters!

Starks speaks and says if we’re talking about street fighters, here’s the thing! Sting and Darby couldn’t see them in the streets! The deal is, Team Taz should take this to the streets! If Darby and Sting want to get nasty, they want to get hardcore, then the ball’s in their court! What you got?! Darby looks to Sting and Sting says something to Darby. Darby takes the mic and says if Team Taz wants to take this to the streets, “be careful what you wish for, because it just might happen.” Will Taz and team regret trying to intimidate these two fearless fighters?

The Elite is having a meeting, but the Young Bucks aren’t part of it?

Alex Marvez tells Matt & Nick Jackson about it, which is weird because this is Kenny Omega’s place. First that eBay collector guy and now this? Well fine, Marvez, come with them to the meeting. The Bucks walks in through the backdoor and Michael Nakazawa is being the greeter? Nakazawa escorts the Bucks into the dining room then into the den. What in the world? Omega has an oil painting of himself and Don Callis as muscular men in denim jeans, and only denim jeans. Omega is one thing but Callis is nowhere NEAR that ripped. Yikes.

But Callis enters first, and says that is a gift for Omega’s birthday. But his birthday’s in October. Well it’s never too early or too late to shop for the God of Pro-Wrestling! Have they not gotten anything for him yet? What kind of friends are you? Just kidding. Oh right, just like how last week, he punked them out on national television with that bait ‘n’ switch! Callis says that it was a choice from production, he meant to tell them but he apologizes for that. Where is Omega? Well Omega is unavailable for today’s meeting. At his own house? Omega is very busy. Too busy to talk to his friends?

Well what number do they have in their phones? Callis had Omega change numbers a couple weeks ago, there are a lot of fans, marks, and “old friends” coming out of the woodwork, blowing up the phone. They didn’t get the memo? Well they don’t need it, they can always come by, he and Omega are always happy to see them. But it’s good that they’re all here so we can clear the air. These three are the ones who love Omega the most, after all. Callis is family, and the Bucks are… old friends. So let’s chat. Marvez, why are you here? Nakazawa, please escort Marvez to the dungeon. What? Not a real dungeon, just the training room Omega uses. And take the cameraman. Not the camera, though, Callis won’t let him shoot any more of Omega’s house. Off to the dungeon with them.

And now they have privacy! The Bucks are good, right? How long have they known Omega? 12 years. Wow, 12 years, a tremendous investment. They need to recognize that. But everyone’s very busy, no time to spend like they used to, so Callis has something he is sure they’ll like. Is he writing them a check? Callis says this will compensate them for their investment in the friendship. They’re just trying to keep contact with the “old crew” to a minimum. Wow, see, this would be a good amount, except the Bucks made that much just last week. Oh, right, the merch! Well here, Callis will add in some. Is this a bribe? No…!

THE AUDACITY to think you can buyout a 12 year FRIENDSHIP…! Callis wasn’t on those 14 hour bus rides in Tokyo! He wasn’t there for the missed birthdays and anniversaries! Where was “Uncle Creepy” Callis? Callis says he was always there. Sorry it’s gone this way, but if you want to talk facts, the Bucks were great friends to Omega, but now they just hold him back! Oh really?! Yes, the hanger-on from the old neighborhood types. Omega is too nice but Callis isn’t.

Y’know, speaking of where this money is coming from, the Bucks used to work at that company Callis is VP of. And so they know these checks are no good. They rip up the checks and Callis accuses them of being bloodsuckers! Oh THEY are the bloodsuckers?! Callis is manipulating Omega! They’re backing Callis up and scaring him a bit, and the camera gets shut off. What is going to happen to The Elite with Callis hanging around?

Cody Rhodes w/ Arn Anderson VS “Pretty” Peter Avalon!

Does the American Nightmare match up with the requirements for the Pageant Provocation? Perhaps, but will Avalon consider giving Cody a pass? Will Avalon’s young win streak be ended his first night back on Dynamite?

The bell rings and Avalon rushes at Cody, but into a dragon sleeper! CROSS RHODES!! Cody would cover, but JADE CARGILL walks out on stage! She is keeping her distance, but Cody isn’t so sure. Avalon runs in and LOW BLOWS Cody during the distraction! Jade likes that and decides to leave now. Avalon kicks at Cody’s legs, stalks Cody around the ring and chop blocks him down! Cody holds on to make Avalon pay for it, but lets him go soon enough. Cargill’s presence almost cost Cody, but the Prince of Pro-Wrestling managed to fight through the pain. Will Cody have to be more careful from now on?

FTR speaks.

Tully Blanchard knows the rankings just came out. They are NUMBER ONE and that is where they need to be. But now, they need the belts. Those are the bragging rights! But then in barges Jurassic Express! Jungle Boy says he’s sick of this. If FTR is the best- Cash Wheeler says they ARE the best. JB gets heated, but he says the FTR might be the best. Being in there taught JB something about himself. It showed him that he could beat either one of them. FTR laughs at that and Dax Harwood says he shouldn’t be fooled by the “salt ‘n’ pepper.” Dax isn’t some fly-by-night wrassler JB plays with in the ring. Dax will fight him next week, 1v1. He doesn’t need Cash and Tully to win, either.

Oh is that so? Let Dax finish. Then let them all be ringside, but Luchasaurus will make sure no one gets involved. JB and Dax shake on it, but will this really be a gentlemen’s agreement with Tully lurking?

Jon Moxley VS ???

The Maniac is back in action tonight, determined to fight his way back to the AEW World Championship and his revenge on Kenny Omega! Will Moxley show that there’s no stopping him, only delaying the inevitable?

AEW returns and Moxley’s opponent turns out to be the Freak Beast Wrecking Ball, Nick Comoroto! A big opponent for his first match back, but Moxley doesn’t back down from a fight! Winner: Jon Moxley, by pinfall

The big man gave Moxley a big fight, but Moxley wouldn’t have it any other way! Moxley gets the mic and points to the fans before saying, “Now, anything can happen on Wednesdays on AEW Dynamite. And things are getting crazy~ around here, I can’t keep track of everything.” Moxley can’t tell who is in Bullet Club, The Elite, who’s from Impact or whatever, but that doesn’t matter. Omega thought he would bring his frat brothers to AEW and they’d watch his back. “Kenny, all’s you did was make it more fun. All you did was make it more interesting. More bodies, bigger brawls, more blood, more violence. More necks to break, more limbs to snap, I love this!”

The bigger the mountain, the sweeter it is at the top! Moxley will climb back up because you can bring the whole city of Nashville to Jacksonville, you can bring up whoever from Mexico or Japan, it remains the same. “All roads in professional wrestling lead through ME!!” Has Moxley just declared war not only on The Cleaner, but all the promotions willing to play ball with AEW?

Backstage interview with Eddie Kingston and The Fam.

For the first time ever, next week on Dynamite, Kingston will face Lance Archer 1v1 in the ring. How does he prepare for someone like Archer, or anyone he’s never faced before? Kingston doesn’t prepare, he just fights. And Kingston has been having a really hard time lately. PAC beat Kingston but Kingston is moving on to Archer. Kingston has to move on. But then Archer comes in, and Jake the Snake barely keeps him back! Archer says Pac beat Kingston, but Archer will end him! Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, a very simple concept. Kingston says he can go on with his poetry, but Archer says all Kingston ever does is shout. If Kingston wants to shut Archer up, do it in the ring! Kingston says it’s 1v1! Then he tells Jake to keep his boy under control.

Jake says Kingston’s one to talk, with his little baby chicken shit family. If Kingston wants to do something, do it face to face without his little butt kissers ringside! Deal! A true 1v1 match is coming, will the Mad King be able to stand after facing the Murderhawk Monster?

AEW returns as Kenny Omega arrives.

Alex Marvez is there waiting and asks Omega about his thoughts on what we saw at the beach. Omega wasn’t at the beach, so no comment. Well, AEW Media was with The Young Bucks and Don Callis at Omega’s house. They were at his house? Is nothing sacred? Get out of his way! Omega finds Callis in the locker room and shows off his new outfit. Whoa, what happened to Callis? Oh, the glasses? No, what’s under the glasses. Callis says Omega shouldn’t get upset, Callis had a “little accident” earlier. It’s not as bad as it looks. Who did that? No, it’s not about- Ow, don’t touch. Callis says this is not what he wants for Omega, Omega can’t lose focus right now.

Omega keeps asking but Callis says it’s fine. Nick & Matt- Uh oh. Omega can’t believe the Bucks did this. Marvez asks if Callis is saying the Bucks did that to him. What is he doing in here? Go away! Is there no privacy here? Omega still wants answers on what happened! We know that the camera went off, but did the Bucks really assault Callis?

Six Man Tag: Matt Sydal & Top Flight VS #HardyParty!

One of the best high flyers ever teams up with the coldest tag team in the game for an incredible combination! But manager “Big Money” Matt teams with his guys in Marq Quen & Isiah Kassidy! Will Hardy and Private Party make their partnership worth their one-sided deal?

Quen clubs away on Sydal, then stomps him down! Quen brings Sydal up, bumps him off buckles, then tags in Kassidy. Private Party mugs Sydal as AEW goes picture in picture.

Hardy sneaks in a shot before Kassidy CHOPS Sydal, but Sydal CHOPS back Kassidy kicks low, pushes Sydal down and stomps him in the corner! Hardy pokes Sydal in the eye! Then tags in Kassidy, and they mug Sydal more. Kassidy snapmares Sydal and wraps on a chinlock. Fans rally as Sydal endures, but Kassidy keeps Sydal away from ropes. Kassidy grinds Sydal down but Sydal fights up. Kassidy shifts to a facelock then tags in Quen. Private Party double suplex Sydal, but Sydal slips out! Sydal DECKS Hardy, and DOUBLE RANAS Private Party! Hot tag to Darius! Darius DECKS Kassidy, uppercuts Quen, goes up and over and sends Kassidy into Quen, then comes back to ENZIGURI Quen down! Dante fights out of Side Effect, but Darius wings into the SIDE EFFECT! Sydal tags in and goes up, Dante walks into a SIDE EFFECT! Sydal leaps but into a SIDE EFFECT!! Hardy has all three down to triple cover, TWO!! Tag to Quen and Quen boots Sydal! Quen says he sees the third eye and does a dance to PELE Sydal right in it! Cover, TWO! Darius DECKS Hardy, Sydal throws Kassidy out and Top Flight focuses on Quen. They put Quen up top, climb up together, but Hardy shoves Darius down hard! Cover, Hardy Party wins!

Winners: Hardy Party, by pinfall

Quen and Kassidy are buying into Big Money Matt’s “by any means necessary” policy! After all, they are #1 contenders to the Impact World Tag Team Championships. Darius and Sydal get in their face about it, though, and Hardy gives the nod. Private Party beats down Darius and Sydal! They hammer away on Sydal and drive knees into Darius, and then feed Darius to a TWIST OF FATE! Sydal gets a TWIST OF FATE, too! Will this new edge be what makes Private Party into champions?

MJF and Wardlow check with The Inner Circle.

MJF tells the cameraman to keep his distance before he and Wardlow walk in. “Oh, the bearer of bad news~!” Ortiz takes a guess: MJF wants the rest of them to be ringside when he and Jericho go after the tag titles, right? No, no, but MJF does get the hostility. Take it from him, if it were up to him, he isn’t so sure this match would be happening. Surely they all feel the same way. But, Chris is the leader, and as such, what he says goes. Sammy Guevara says if he had things his way, a lot of this wouldn’t be happening.

Hager and the others keep Sammy back but MJF says they’ve been doing this for months. MJF loves Hager, Santana and Ortiz, and even Sammy. They’re family, and they have to be family in order to succeed. Now, MJF respects Sammy because Sammy isn’t afraid to speak his mind. But can Sammy just understand that MJF isn’t some sociopath. MJF wants what’s best for the group, and so do they. So let’s all just go out there, have this match, and settle it. Everyone else fist bumps with MJF, but not Sammy. They’re not there yet. That’s fine. MJF says he’ll see them all out there, but is Sammy onto something?

Miro tells “Charles” to get in the ring so we can all get an update. Miro tells “Charles” that he could be mean, but he’s not because he’s a nice guy. But Miro needs Charles to let go of the past so he can reach a bright future. Stand up straight. So Charles needs to look at Cassidy and tell him that MIRO is his best friend now! Chuck doesn’t want to but Miro tells him he has to. Cassidy stands up and Chuck takes the mic. Miro and Kip make sure he looks at Cassidy as he says it. “Miro is my best friend now.” Kip hugs Chuck and Miro gives a big thumbs up, and Cassidy walks away. Will Chuckie T be able to make it to Beach Break without breaking?

Something’s happening backstage!

Omega comes over now, he and the Good Brothers mug Penta, and choke him using a power cord!! AEW has a lot planned for next week!

Not only will Eddie Kingston take on Lance Archer without any of their cohorts ringside, and not only will Dax Harwood take on Jungle Boy with all their teammates ringside, but Cody Rhodes will finally respond to comments made by Shaq! Plus, the Dark Order will try to move on from Hangman Page’s rejection in another 8 Man Tag, but against The Elite! Will the Young Bucks and Good Brothers be able to get along like back in the day? Or will the issues with Kenny Omega allow Evil Uno, Stu Grayson, Alex Reynolds and John Silver to cash in big on both the AEW AND Impact Wrestling Tag Team Champions?

Plus, some news for AEW Beach Break!

With AEW Revolution only a month away, there will be a Tag Team Battle Royal to name the Young Bucks’ challengers! Which duo will be the last ones standing to take on Matt & Nick Jackson? Will the Inner Circle’s representative be in that battle royal? And speaking of Beach Break, the main event was going to be Kenny Omega & The Good Brothers VS Death Triangle, but after what the “Biz Clizz” did to Penta, Pac and Fenix will be teaming with JON MOXLEY!! Will Moxley get a semblance of revenge on The Cleaner in just two weeks?

In this style of Triple Threat Tag, only two teams are active but anyone can tag off one of the opponents. They sort out and MJF starts with Sammy. Say it ain’t so! MJF said this would be all in good sportsmanship but that was the exact opposite! And AEW has to wrap up for the night, what will be the fallout of this frantic finish!?

My Thoughts:

What a great episode! We got a great start with the birthday celebration for Brodie Jr. and the 8 Man Tag. Hangman’s rejection being a surprise to the Dark Order was great, with the prepared celebration now being for nothing. This will be an interesting twist to their story, especially with that huge 8 Man announced for next week. Also, Negative One Brodie got to have some more fun, getting on the case of the Dark Order henchmen and smacking Serpentico with a kendo stick. We got a lot of good set up for next week, the go-home to Beach Break. Dax VS JB with everyone ringside and Kingston VS Archer with no one ringside will both be good steps in progressing story, and both could probably go either way.

Cody VS Avalon going from squash to an actually strong match was a great twist, and all while plugging the story of Jade and Shaq VS the Nightmare Family. I have a feeling that Cody’s response to Shaq will set up something for AEW Revolution as Beach Break is too soon and anything else would be just too long to wait for. Sting and Darby didn’t get much of a segment since Team Taz interrupts, but I like the idea that Sting’s first bit of action back will likely be a Street Fight/No Holds Barred situation, which perhaps helps with the fact that he hasn’t wrestled in years and being loose and freeform with it will actually hide that he’s rusty.

Hardy Party VS Top Flight & Sydal was a really good match, with a lot of great character work from Quen and Kassidy. They did become Impact Tag Team Championship contenders on the newest episode of Impact, but now they’re turning from the fun loving Faces into the dastardly Heels Hardy wants them to be. This could get them over the hump here in AEW, but who knows how it’ll turn out on Impact. They won’t win the titles, though, Gallows & Anderson are just too good, and there’s a lot for them to still do in the overall Omega story, where being the tag champions might help give a bit more weight to what happens.

Moxley VS Comoroto was very good, especially for Comoroto’s first showing on Dynamite. The story with Omega and the rest of Bullet Club/Elite was great stuff, especially Callis’ part with the Bucks. It really seems to work with how, between AEW and Impact, this new Cleaner Omega is getting a big ego and is basically going Hollywood without going to Hollywood. The 8 Man Tag next week is going to be really good just on character points as the Bucks and Good Brothers have been friends just as long, if not longer, than with Omega, but are taking sides on this issue. Then the beat down on who I’m pretty sure was fake Penta works to get Moxley into the story, and the Beach Break main event is going to be great stuff.

Ford VS Hirsch was good but mostly used as the vehicle to Miro’s story with Chuck Taylor and Best Friends. Chuck was being forced to cheat on their behalf, and obviously didn’t mean what he said about him and Miro being friends. This just furthers the idea that Trent will return at Beach Break where he and Cassidy ruin the Superbad wedding and then Chuck is free of the butler duties so he can get revenge on Miro, too. I really like the news of the AEW Women’s Championship Eliminator Tournament to not just parallel the men’s tournament from late 2020, but also to finally get AEW’s Women’s Division going. Plus, it strengthens the bond with Stardom as many of the women who went between the two promotions are already reacting on social media and will surely be part of the tournament.

Then the main event, the Triple Threat Tag, for not actually being that long of a match, was a spectacular match. The build up all night was really good, and MJF sure did make it seem like Jericho was to blame for the whole thing. Probably hints at MJF trying to usurp the role as leader in the Inner Circle from him. Commentary did a great job pointing out that MJF was letting everyone else wrestle for the first part of the match, and then he ended up not having much of a choice in the second half. It really did feel like any one of the teams could’ve taken this, but in the end it was still Y2MJF winning because of MJF’s craftiness. I’m wondering if participate in Beach Break’s tag team battle royal since MJF has history of winning the Dynamite Diamond Ring battle royals.

My Score: 9.4/10
