But while O’Riley still flounders in the ring, LANCE ARCHER shows up! Jake the Snake has the mic as the Murderhawk Monster gets in the ring. O’Riley gets up, and Archer CHOKE SLAMS him out onto King and Maluta!! Jake says “Now I lay me down to sleep. I pray the Lord, my soul to keep. If I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord, my soul to take.” That’s a great sentiment if you believe it. But believe this: The Lord has your soul, but your ass belongs to Archer! So what do you do? Only a fool jumps into a volcano or off a tall building. And only a fool gets in the ring with Archer. Archer says life and death is a very touchy subject in 2020.
But Archer has a fun story. Life once asked Death, “Why do people hate you, but love me?” Death responded that Life is the beautiful lie and death is the painful truth. The painful truth in AEW is that this will keep happening week after week until they get the message and understand that what Archer does is more dangerous than anything anyone else can do. Freud once said the goal of life IS death. He said #EverybodyDies long before Archer did. Archer just has to be the last to die. And he’ll lay every single person in AEW down to sleep.

AEW presents The Waiting Room!
Rebel/Reba says, “Everyone smile!” AEW’s first ever talk show debuts here on Dark! “The doctor will see you now.” THE Role Model and the face of the AEW Women’s Division, it is BRITT BAKER! Britt walks in and the “studio audience,” which is mostly the talent scheduled for tonight’s Dark, applauds. Britt thanks them and says she’s blushing. Thank you so much. This is a big night for her. First of all, did everyone catch the huge AEW Games announcement? There is so much to look forward to with those, and hopefully everyone loved the picture from the AEW Games kickoff, where it was “a group of extraordinary, talented individuals with endless potential, worth millions,” and Aubrey Edwards.
Rebel has quite the obvious laugh, but Britt says let’s get serious. Britt will not avoid the hot topics here. “At AEW Full Gear, Eddie Kingston’s fairy tale came to an end.” The carriage turned into a pumpkin, and he lost the match. What could have happened if Kingston prepared as much for the match as he prepared his eyebrows, and then tried to become the Green Power Ranger. Britt then turns to congratulating the Young Bucks! Those guys worked so hard, namely on talking to TK and then getting Tully Blanchard banned from ringside for absolutely no reason so that they could STEAL the tag titles from FTR. The Bucks went from backyard to big leagues, and now as the AEW World Tag Team Champions, they can continue “killing the business.” Get your copy of their book who knows where.
Britt moves on with current events. “It’s been a very frustrating couple of weeks in the United States of America as we’ve seen refusal to accept defeat, and downright denial.” Of course she means Cody Rhodes and the AEW TNT Championship. Cody lost to Darby Allin and is now living his own American nightmare. Don’t worry, Tony Khan and the top AEW execs are working on a brand new title to hand to Cody as we speak. The only problem is, we’re going to run out of network names pretty quickly. Maybe this one will be the Cartoon Network Championship? Rebel likes that one, too.
But back to the wonderful premiere of this talk show. It is great that we treat this as a special occasion because it is. Everyone, check under your seats for a special gift! Wait, there’s nothing there. Exactly! Britt couldn’t help it, though. Life isn’t fair. And speaking of fair, Britt’s guests have been treated very unfairly, as they’re not even ranked in the AEW Top Five when they should be. Welcome Jack Evans and Angelico, TH2! Rebel gets the door and The Hybrid2 walk in. Evans tells the fans, “You’re welcome.” More applause, please. They don’t know how to act around greatness.
Britt thanks them for coming and is a big fan of theirs. But what is going on right now? What is it going to take to get TH2 to the tag team titles? “That’s easy: we’re going to make a statement.” Physical and verbal. Evans is the man, the myth, the legend. But even he has had to sit and watch Bucks make this tag division into their vanity project! But think about this: TH2 has been on Dynamite for less time than Cody’s pyro. No, wait! They’ve been on Dynamite less time than Brandi’s action figure. No, they’ve been on Dynamite less time than Brian “Pissin” Pillman Jr, and that guy who rocks the mullet! Britt has them slow down but Angelico has one more. They’ve been on Dynamite for less time than REBEL! Britt wants them to focus on the statement.
Well Evans will take that question: the punkass political posturing will not be tolerated! The teams that think they’ve brushed TH2 aside into the Dark and guided them into oblivion are sleeping on the job. Time to yank them out of bed by the hair and remind them of who they are! They will remember the sound TH2’s boots make hitting against their throats! And the first team to face this karmic retribution is none other than the Bucks’ besties, S C U!! “Those overrated pair of pricks are about to get exactly what they freakin’ deserve!” Angelico asks Britt touch him, and she taps him with a finger. Angelico starts up the Bernie lean as he exits. Britt thanks us for tuning in, see you again for your check-up in The Waiting Room.

Jack Evans w/ Angelico VS Christopher Daniels w/ Frankie Kazarian!
The Hybrid2 have been getting on SoCal Uncensored’s nerves, but they’re also dividing and conquering. Will the Fallen Angel turn things around from Jack Evans from the Heavens?
Kaz keeps Angelico in check before the bell rings. Evans and Daniels circle, but Evans tells fans to shut up with the SCU chants. Daniels moves around, fights up and out of the hold, but Evans CLUBS him down! Evans whips Daniels out hard, then distracts the ref. Kaz keeps Angelico from doing anything, though, and Daniels gets back to the ring safely. Daniels shoulders into Evans, slingshots and sunset flips but Evans rolls through. TH2 gets away with one! SCU got screwed, but will they be the ones giving Evans and Angelico “karmic retribution” soon enough?
Another big Dark but a pretty good Dark. Firstly, pretty big that Britt Baker gets AEW’s first talk show, and she did a great job with it. I like that her talk show was more like a late night talk show with the opening jokes before the guests were brought out. WWE’s talk shows are always quick to get to the guests, so AEW doing something unique is of course a good move. TH2 putting forth their mission was also good, and naturally they would think The Elite are abusing their power, just like a lot of other enemies of The Elite. TH2 gets the better of Daniels tonight, but I’m thinking we get a big tag match blow-off with one team moving up the ranks.
Speaking of, we got a lot of great tag matches tonight, too, with Team TNT looking impressive again. I like that they used twin magic, though it didn’t win them the match. Jurassic Express is going strong, I expect they should get a match with the Bucks at some point. Max Caster does great on the mic with his brand of diss rapping, The Acclaimed does great again as a team with now two combo moves they can bust out, and one day they could be up in the top ranks of the tag division, but for now they’re a strong upper midcard team. I also like that we got the Gunn Club as a trio with Colten officially wrestling for AEW. Whether AEW does trios titles or not, the Gunn Club could be strong with Billy as TNT title contender and the sons as tag contenders. Maybe.
We also got a lot of strong women’s matches tonight from top to bottom. Penelope Ford is keeping herself going though still just outside the title match. Her story with Kip, Miro and the rest will have to finish up first before she really gets going at the title again. Ivelisse and Gracia had a really good match that built Gracia but also helped keep Ivelisse going. Swole VS King was really good, too, but of course Swole wins as she is the #1 contender right now. It seems so strange and rather disappointing that there’s a lot more fire in the NWA Women’s Championship story than AEW’s right now, but that’s what Rosa VS Snow did for that story. Rosa VS Deeb is going to be a lot of fun whenever it happens. But of course, with Swole, Ivelisse and even Ford still going strong, I’m sure AEW will make up for the lull with something big to end the year.
My Score: 8/10
Mitchell’s AEW Dark Results & Report! (5/11/21)
It’s Dark After Blood & Guts!
There’s still more in the aftermath of Blood & Guts!
Things aren’t slowing down in AEW! Jon Moxley & Eddie Kingston are after the Young Bucks but they’ll settle for some Milk Chocolate tonight!
- Jon Moxley & Eddie Kingston VS Milk Chocolate; Moxley & Kingston win.
- Six Man Tag: The Dark Order VS Spencer Slade, Cole Karter & Andrew Palace; The Dark Order wins.
- Lance Archer w/ Jake the Snake VS Angel Fashion; Archer wins.
- Six Man Tag: The Factory VS RYZIN, Jake Logan & Rick Recon; The Factory win(s).
- Varsity Blonds w/ Julia Hart VS Jaylen Brandyn & Traevon Jordan; Varsity Blonds win.
- Diamante VS Willow Nightingale; Diamante wins.
- Dante Martin VS Aaron Frye; Martin wins.
- Nyla Rose w/ Vickie Guerrero VS Ashley D’Amboise; Nyla wins.
- Cezar Bononi & Ryan Nemeth w/ The Pretty Picture VS Liam Gray & Adrian Alanis; The Pretty Picture wins.
- Kris Statlander w/ Best Friends VS Julia Hart; Statlander wins.
- Jungle Boy VS Marty Casaus; Jungle Boy wins.
- Big Swole & Red Velvet VS The MK Twins; Swole & Velvet win.
- Preston Vance VS JD Drake w/ The Pretty Picture; Vance wins.
- The Acclaimed VS Sonny Kiss & Joey Janela; The Acclaimed win.
- Bear Bronson VS Brian Cage w/ Hook; Cage wins.
- “Powerhouse” Will Hobbs w/ Hook VS Mike Sydal; Hobbs wins.
Moxley & Kingston starting was a nice twist, and they just destroy Milk Chocolate! That is enough to make it a match to watch, and does make sense since Mox and Kingston already competed on Elevation, and Mox is going to need to be 100% for his IWGP US Championship match with Yuji Nagata on Dynamite. The “Violent Crown,” a lariat Half ‘n’ Half suplex combo, is a great team finisher for them, too. Dark Order does great as always, they had a great promo on the Hardy Family Office to build story, but Preston Vance’s mask becoming more and more The Joker has me torn. Yes, The Joker is iconic, he’s THE Batman villain, but it’s so much so that people wanting to reference him (and Harley Quinn by extension) is overdone.
Vance should try to reference some other masked character(s), like Rorschach or Ghost Face. I get it, Pentagon is running around as Venom on and off, and Venom is another frequently referenced character, but not nearly as much so it’s not grating yet. The “Pretty Picture”/”Wingmen” arguing about the name is hilarious stuff, too. I wonder if there will be a match of Bononi & Avalon VS Nemeth & Drake, winners decide which one is the real name. Nemeth & Bononi get a good win for themselves, Vance VS Drake was great and worthy of the “main event” that is basically the entire latter half of these YouTube shows. It was fourth to last, not a real main event, but still great.
Archer doing a springboard cannonball to start the assault was great. Murderhawk Monster squash matches are always fun, especially now that Jake the Snake is getting on commentary for them. I like the arrogance in The Factory that QT Marshall can just sit on the “throne” that is the steel steps on the ramp while watching his guys fight in a 3v2. At the same time, Comoroto is big and strong enough that he can make up for being down a man. QT’s aggression and using the Figure Four after definitely implies nothing is done between him and Cody, but I still wish he had gotten a grudge match with Dustin first.
Julia Hart joining Varsity Blonds is a good sign that the Blonds are moving up in the ranks in AEW as far as presentation. Best Friends made Kris Statlander an honorary member, Julia can be like the varsity cheerleader or something, and we can start getting some mixed tag/mixed trio matches. Brandyn & Jordan, aka Waves & Curls, got a really good showing for a Dark debut, but naturally the Blonds win and I still think their finisher should be the Varsity Bomb. Statlander of course beats Julia, but perhaps seeds have been planted for Best Friends VS Blonds? Diamante calling out Statlander is an interesting choice, but sometimes you just have to throw people together to get a feud going and see what comes of it.
Dante Martin is doing so well as a singles guy while waiting on brother Darrius to recover, I feel like Dante should get a TNT Championship opportunity. Of course, that’s only if Darby Allin retains on Dynamite, or if Miro chooses to be a workhorse champion like Darby. I just hope there isn’t some story where the brothers disagree and there’s a break-up because Top Flight can be a truly amazing team once they’re both running hot like that. JB VS Casaus was good, Casaus getting a good showing before he of course loses because it’s Jungle Boy! #Swolevet should be considered for whatever women’s tag concept AEW thinks of next, they and KiLynn King make a great group.
Again, the latter part of Dark being the “main event,” that is logically where the strength of the card lies. Vance VS Drake, probably Caster’s funniest rap yet, The Acclaimed VS Jersey’s Finest, and then Team Taz’s muscle closing in the last two matches, all great stuff. I almost feel like the tag match could’ve been the main event over the separate Team Taz matches, it was that damn good. Another surprise was that I thought Brian Cage would main event, because he beat Hangman Page and though the FTW Championship isn’t an official title of AEW, you’d think Cage would still be seen as the frontrunner of Team Taz. He also has a great match with Bear Bronson, who is solo right now with Boulder hurt.
And if multiple Team Taz members were on the card tonight, why didn’t they think to have them all enter together and just wait on their opponents to show up? Ricky Starks could’ve even been on commentary to further the passive aggressiveness he has towards Cage. Just a small thing that would’ve helped build story, so that instead of saying “It’s just AEW’s YouTube show,” fans can start to say, “AEW is genius for putting this on YouTube!”
My Score: 8.4/10
Mitchell’s AEW Dark: Elevation Results & Report! (5/10/21)
Elevation in the shadow of Blood & Guts!
The violence and pain of Dynamite wasn’t enough, was it?
The Blood & Guts of Dynamite was only the start! Before he defends his IWGP United States Championship in AEW, Jon Moxley headlines Elevation!
- Lee Johnson VS David Ali; Johnson wins.
- Eddie Kingston VS VSK; Kingston wins.
- Ethan Page & Scorpio Sky VS Fuego Del Sol & Baron Black; Ethan & Scorpio win.
- Thunder Rosa VS Renee Michelle; Rosa wins.
- Chuck Taylor w/ Best Friends VS Vary Morales; Chuck wins.
- Leyla Hirsch VS Dani Jordyn; Hirsch wins.
- Matt Sydal VS Manny Smith; Sydal wins.
- Jade Cargill VS Reka Tehaka; Cargill wins.
- Matt Hardy & Marq Quen w/ Isiah Kassidy VS Dean Alexander & Dillon McQueen; Hardy & Quen win.
- Britt Baker w/ Rebel VS Raychell Rose; Britt wins.
- Tay Conti VS Madi Wrenkowski; Conti wins.
- Jurassic Express VS Chaos Project; Jurassic Express wins.
- Isiah Kassidy w/ The Hardy Family Office VS Alex Reynolds w/ The Dark Order; Reynolds wins.
- Jon Moxley VS Danny Limelight; Moxley wins.
“Big Shotty” Lee Johnson and David Ali opening was good, definitely another case of what Elevation is all about. Commentary could still do better on knowing moves, because Johnson’s move was a fisherman ushigoroshi, not Blue Thunder Bomb. We got more clear winner matches, of course, that isn’t going to change any time soon as far as I can tell. VSK got a good showing against Kingston, and I like the detail that the finish was the frog splash flop and Oklahoma Roll. It makes the defeat more a point of inexperience, not ability or skill. Kingston had a great promo on the Young Bucks, but that’s because Kingston can literally cut a great promo on anything. There’s a video of him cutting a killer promo on chocolate chip cookies. Kingston and Moxley VS The Young Bucks is going to be awesome.
I almost feel like Fuego and Baron got too good of a showing against Ethan & Scorpio, but I suppose that just makes Ethan & Scorpio look even better by comparison. Renee Michelle got herself a very good showing, but Rosa pulling out a submission hold was nice, gives her moveset some depth. A little surprised Chuckie T didn’t face Penta or Pac as a way to both get some tune-ups in before Dynamite’s Pac VS Orange Cassidy, but I suppose Chuck needed a win since he lost to Rey Fenix last week. Leyla’s armbar is becoming the strongest armbar in wrestling today, it ended her match with Dani Jordan quick!
Mark Sterling trying to be Jade’s manager was interesting, it’d be quite the swerve on this story they’re building if she went with him and not someone more established like Vickie Guerrero. A good detail of The Hardy Family Office tonight was that they were all in street clothes. It implies a new level of arrogance, where they didn’t feel the need to go to the locker room and get dressed for their matches. Conti using that top rope back senton, that needs to be treated as a more devastating move, Madi recovered a little too soon to me. Maybe also make the top rope back senton something saved for the big time matches, like when a title or title opportunity is more directly on the line.
The last three matches were all great, deserving of the bulk of hour two. Marko Stunt being in the Jurassic Express match this time was a nice surprise, he and JB made for a good combination against Chaos Project. Kassidy VS Reynolds was great, and having tag guys in singles matches is a great way to show the strength of the tag division. We saw it when Nick Jackson and Rey Fenix faced off 1v1, too. If the individuals are this good, then of course the teams are amazing. And in the case of these factions, the Hardy Family Office and Dark Order, it shows that they can dominate all divisions, no matter who competes where. Reynolds and Silver are a great tag team, but each guy could be a TNT Champion at some point.
Story wise, it was great for Reynolds to win only for the HFO to stand tall. This can build to something big, but we just got Blood & Guts so maybe we get Stadium Stampede 2 or a 10 Man Elimination Tag a la WWE Survivor Series. Getting an interview with Limelight was great, it really establishes he’s solidly AEW. It’s also pretty cool that he and Paul “Big Show” Wight met because of WWE Tribute to the Troops, though they couldn’t say that themselves. His story is powerful, it’s obvious he’s a great talent in the ring, and he was a great choice for the main event with Moxley. Limelight can definitely find himself as far as being on the mic, he could grow into a big name right before our eyes.
My Score: 8.3/10
