Bron Breakker is here!

The NXT Championship is still on his shoulder after making it through NXT Heatwave, and through the Irish Ace, JD McDonagh. Bron gets a mic while fans bark, and he says, “Orlando, where my dogs wat?” The fans bark more and Bron says last week, JD and Bron had a banger in the ring. JD proved that when he steps through these ropes, he is one of the very best in the world. After the match, the NXT UK Champion, Tyler Bate, made his presence known. Fans chant for the “Big Strong Boy!” Bron is pretty sure Tyler didn’t fly here for the miles, so he should come out to the ring so they can talk. And so Tyler Bate appears again!

Tyler steps into the ring with a mic to once again be face-to-face with Bron. Tyler says the fans are kind to chant for him. And he thanks Bron for the kind invitation. And congratulations on the win last week against JD. Tyler’s been in the ring with JD, too, so he knows how good JD is, so big respect to Bron. And Bron is correct, Tyler is here for more than the air miles. Now, NXT UK has been host to some of the best this business has to offer. Right here and now, Tyler is the proud flagbearer of NXT UK, as the first and last NXT UK. With NXT Europe around the corner, Tyler can’t think o fa better way to kick things off than by unifying these two titles!

Fans cheer for that and Bron smiles. Bron knows who Tyler is, he was watching from afar. He knows how big of a threat Tyler is to the NXT Championship. And hell, thinking of NXT UK means thinking of Tyler Bate! But this isn’t the UK, this is THE NXT, where the greatest superstars in the world are! Fans cheer and bark, and Bron says he does agree: there should be ONE NXT Champion. “So in two weeks, let’s make history! Worlds Collide, Champion VS Champion, Title for Title!” Fans cheer as Tyler and Bron shake hands, then they both hold up their belts. Who will be THE NXT Champion after this epic NXT UK finale?

Gallus speaks.

Mark Coffey admits, they’re three street hooligans who love a good scrap. But they never start fights they can’t finish. Wolfgang adds that for over three years, they’ve been the most dominant faction in NXT UK. The longest reigning tag team champions in NXT UK history. Joe says now, NXT will learn what they beat into the UK. They attacked Diamond Mine in their NXT 2.0 debut then called out Briggs & Jensen. “This is always and forever, Gallus Boys On Top!” Will they soon make ALL of NXT their kingdom?

NXT UK Tag Team Championships: Josh Briggs & Brooks Jensen w/ Fallon Henley VS Gallus!

Well, no sense in waiting! The good ol’ boys are ready to defend their titles against anyone, but will they be ready for the classic combo of Mark Coffey and Wolfgang?

Whoa, on their way out, Briggs & Jensen have to stop Fallon from scrapping with Lash Legend! Will the champions be able to focus on the fight in front of them? We’ll find out, after the break.

NXT returns and the champions make their entrance. The introductions are made, the belts are raised, and we see if Gallus Boys will be back on top!

The teams sort out, and Wolfgang attacks Briggs before the bell! Gallus fires off on Briggs with windmilling haymakers, then he puts Briggs in the Gallus corner. Mark tags in, moves Wolfgang aside and fires off knees! Mark ROCKS Briggs, whips him to ropes, but Briggs CLUBS him! Briggs clinches Mark, tags Jensen, and they whip to run Mark over with double shoulders! Briggs talks trash on Wolfgang and Jensen SPLASHES to then BULLDOG Mark! Cover, ONE!! Jensen drags Mark up to whip him to ropes, but Mark KICKS Jensen back! Mark ROCKS Jensen, tags Wolfgang, then they mug Jensen. Cover, ONE!

Wolfgang clamps onto Jensen, drops knees on him, then clamps on a chinlock. Jensen endures and fans rally up. Jensen fights but Wolfgang CLUBS him down! Wolfgang tags Mark, they mug Jensen more, but Jensen throws hands. Mark UPPERCUTS Jensen, tags Wolfgang, and the mugging continues! Wolfgang snapmares, covers, ONE! Wolfgang clamps onto Jensen with a facelock and he tags Mark. Mark throws hands but Jensen throws some back. Mark UPPERCUTS again, tags Wolfgang, but Jensen keep fighting! He gets loose, hot tag to Briggs! The hands start flying, Fallon and Joe are shouting, but Gallus is sent rolling!

Fans fire up with the good ol’ boys while NXT goes picture in picture! Joe calms Mark and Wolfgang down, Briggs dares someone to get back in. Gallus talks strategy, Wolfgang gets back in, but he tags Mark. Mark gets around Briggs to waistlock but Briggs pries free. Briggs wrenches, RAMS shoulders with Mark, then RAMS him again. Mark ROCKS Briggs, Briggs ROCKS Mark then runs him over! Tag to Jensen, and Briggs stands Mark up. Feed to Jensen’s shoulder tackle! Jensen clamps onto an arm, he thrashes Mark around, but Mark fights up. Jensen wrangles Mark down and keeps on the armlock.

Mark endures, fights up, but Jensen wrangles him again! Cover, ONE!! Jensen stays clamped on, he tags Briggs in, and they give some of that mugging back! feed to a BIG elbow from Briggs! Briggs pushes Mark to a cover, TWO! Briggs tries again but Mark resists. Briggs clamps onto the arm and even adds a chinbar. Mark fights up, Jensen tags in, and they double scoop SLAM Mark down! Cover, ONE!! Jensen clamps on with a facelock but then Wolfgang runs in! Jensen lets Mark go to stare Wolfgang down, but Mark CLOBBERS Jensen! Tag to Wolfgang and Mark turns Jensen around into a backslide, for Wolfgang to drop a knee on!

Wolfgang keeps Jensen from Briggs while Jensen clutches his face. The ref checks Jensen and Joe says they just left their mark. Wolfgang digs his fingers into Jensen’s face, then CHOKES him on the ropes! Wolfgang lets off as the ref counts and he argues the count. Wolfgang throws knees into Jensen, then some uppercuts, but Jensen hits back. Wolfgang ROCKS Jensen, facelocks and tags Mark. The mugging continues, and NXT returns to single picture. Mark snapmares, chinlocks and he grinds Jensen down. Fans rally up, Jensen stands up but Mark wrangles him down. Jensen fights up again, throws body shots, but Mark DECKS him!

Mark stomps Jensen, tags Wolfgang, and Gallus CLUBS Jensen. Wolfgang digs his fingers at Jensen’s face then CLUBS him on the forehead! Tag to Mark, then feed to the kitchen sink knee! BASEMENT SENTON from Wolfgang! Mark high stacks Jensen, TWO! Jensen is showing his toughness but Mark facelocks and grinds him down. Jensen fights up, fans rally, and Jensen reaches for Briggs. Mark CLUBS Jensen, swings on Briggs, but Jensen back drops Mark! Fans fire up, hot tags to Wolfgang and Briggs! Briggs throws hands on Gallus! He DECKS Wolfgang, then BOOTS him down! Mark returns but gets a SIDEWALK SLAM and SENTON!

Fans fire up as Joe gets up, and Briggs DECKS him! But then Lash CLOBBERS Fallon! Fallon rushes Lash, they brawl on the ramp, but Briggs breaks it up. But then Pretty Deadly attacks!! It’s a massive scrum on the outside, but the ref is still counting? It’s a COUNT-OUT!! Gallus

Winners: Gallus, by count-out (Briggs & Jensen retain the titles)

But then Damon Kemp rushes in and attacks! As do the Creeds! Diamond Mine is getting revenge! Brutus clotheslines Wolfgang out, Kemp SPEARS Mark and Julius CLOBBERS Joe! Security finally rushes in and breaks this up, but will Gallus go from the UK to the US tag titles?

Grayson Waller talks with a production staffer.

Lights are ready? Yes. Graphics are ready? Yes. Microphone set up? Uh… Seriously? That’s the most important part! Do it now! Hurry! The Grayson Waller Effect talk show debuts after the break!

Andre Chase introduces a new student.

They met this tremendous competitor during their field trip in the UK. Someone who’s lineage is steeped in the British catch-as-catch-can wrestling style. It is Charlie Dempsey! The others applaud his arrival, and Charlie is going to teach our class some moves. The volunteer steps up, gets on his hands and knees, and Dempsey immediately pushes him over, gets the leg and arm for his Blackpool Bow ‘n’ Arrow! Okay, easy, easy! This is just a demonstration! Dempsey lets off and the volunteer crawls away. Okay, Bodhi, let’s give it a go. He’s more advanced. Bodhi offers a handshake but Dempsey uses that to yank Bodhi into a clinch and neck wrench!

The other students are scared of Dempsey as he wraps Bodhi up in a sleeper, and even pinches Bodhi’s nose closed! Bodhi taps and Chase has Dempsey let off again. That’s enough! Bodhi sputters, and then he gets pissed! This is just practice, man! Chase has them stand down. Dempsey clearly misunderstood the purpose of this class. Maybe he wasn’t the right person to ask. Dempsey says this class is too soft! For homework, google “Billy Robinson.” Dempsey storms off, will the Chase U prospects learn to toughen up?

NXT makes it official!

For NXT Worlds Collide, September 4th, it will be a UNIFICATION MATCH! Bron Breakker VS Tyler Bate, Winner Takes All to be the UNDISPUTED NXT Champion! What other matches between both brands will be made these next 11 days?

Grayson Waller is in the ring.

And he snatches Vic Joseph’s mic! Enough screen time for you, Vic! Cameras on Waller for this historic night! Lights! Music! And graphics! Waller smiles as he takes a seat, this is G W E! The Grayson Waller Effect! NXT’s been aching for a show like this, and he will be the buzz of not only NXT but ALL the WWE Universe! Fans chant for “Johnny Wrestling!” but Waller says it doesn’t matter, that guy doesn’t wanna be in the ring with Waller! Every other talk show is about the guests, but make no mistake, this show is about Waller! And since he’s on the cutting edge of content innovation, go to his Instagram right now, submit a question!

Waller says he might even use these questions for his guest tonight. A one-of-a-kind athlete, a former WWE Intercontinental Champion, a former WWE United States Champion, he’s almost done it all. But for some reason, this guy is in NXT to take opportunities away from everyone. It’s APOLLO~… Crews. And as such, Apollo makes his way out. Apollo goes to the ring, gets a mic and looks Waller’s set over. “Wow, wow, wow, look at this! The Grayson Waller Effect really is in full effect. You did it up, man.” He’s got Instagram Live with fan interaction, good job. Apollo takes his seat at the desk but the chair goes down.

Fans chant “Grayson Sucks!” “NO!” but Waller says they’ll skip the niceties. Apollo, “How does it feel to be nothing more than a clout chaser?” Waller gets it, though. Everyone steals from his hype train! AJ Styles tried it. Half these Brits are trying it. And Apollo’s first night back- Whoa, hold on. Waller is asking Apollo why people are trying to steal from Waller. But why is Apollo here? Because Apollo Crews was born in NXT! Fans cheer that while Waller rolls his eyes. Apollo found something missing in himself, and he came back to NXT to find it. He knew some people would love it, like all the fans here. And he knew some would hate it and be jealous, like Waller here.

Waller is jealous? Absolutely! Here’s a question no one else has the balls to ask: Didn’t Apollo use to have an accent? Apollo laughs that off as Waller mocks the “proud Nigerian Warrior.” But now he’s back in NXT, no accent, no native garb, what’s up with that? “Is this the accent that you’re talking about, huh? Is this the one?” Yeah, there it is! Don’t get it twisted, dog. Apollo is still a Nigerian warrior. And Waller’s asking this like he should be ashamed? He’s proud of his heritage. He went to WrestleMania 37 and became Intercontinental Champion. Fans cheer that but Apollo says he got too caught up on the past and forgot about the future. So that brings Apollo to why he’s here again.

Oh, so he’s admitting he’s selfish? Let’s go to Instagram! Here’s one! “What are these visions you have? Can you do it on the show? On the first episode of the Grayson Waller Effect! You have a gift, do it, do it!” Apollo says it doesn’t work that way. He’s a big dreamer, a visual thinker, and we can all speak things into existence. There’s no greater force than knowing yourself. Oh so you’re saying you know what’s gonna happen? Like if someone will be in trouble, he can help them out? What a gift! But uh… Where was he when Gallus attacked Diamond Mine? That’s some scummy stuff! He knew something would happen but did nothing?

Well, first, stop interrupting him. That’s not how it happens. Uh, that’s exactly how it happens! Diamond Mine gets laid out after Apollo tries to tear them down! Apollo gets up but Waller backs off. Where’s Waller going? This was a conversation, mate. If Apollo can’t handle the heat, that’s on him. Oh, here’s a question: Grayson from Australia wants to know how Apollo feels about getting run out of NXT? Ain’t nobody running from Waller. Here’s a better question from Apollo in Orlando! Waller, how doe sit feel to be a low budget version of The Miz? OOOOOH! Wow. Waller doesn’t know if anyone gets it, but that’s a compliment! No, it’s not.

Fans chant “Low Budget Miz! Low Budget Miz!” Waller tells Apollo here’s another one. “How does it feel every single night when you go home to your kids, and you gotta tell ’em Daddy couldn’t cut it on Mondays and Fridays, so now he’s back in NXT?” Apollo tells Waller that he tells his kids, “Dad was a champ on Monday, Dad was a champ on Friday, and Dad’s soon gonna be a champ on Tuesday.” Fans cheer as Apollo DECKS Waller! And that, Waller, is the APOLLO CREWS EFFECT! Will Apollo prove he’s the ACE of NXT? Or will Waller get the last laugh?

Security does its best to guide Gallus out of the building.

But then Gallus spots Pretty Deadly! Kit Wilson smirks while Elton Prince says, “Excuse me, big boys. Being Pretty Deadly copycats doesn’t look good on you.” Kit adds, “Surprise! You’re not as good as us. So no matter how hard you try, you can’t steal our thunder.” Wolfgang says they’re talking a big game in front of security. Mark says they’re not here for Pretty Deadly, they’re here to take THEIR titles home! OH, their titles? Kit, remind Elton who took those titles from Gallus. It was Pretty Deadly, Elly! It was! Joe says that Briggs & Jensen and Diamond Mine aside, Gallus can definitely handle these two!

Security has to stop Gallus from getting at Pretty Deadly, and Pretty Deadly laugh as they leave. Will Gallus settle up with the tag team champions and their bitter rivals all at once?

Tyler Bate speaks.

“Hello, hello. Tyler Bate here, the first-ever, and now current NXT UK Champion. I have been the proud flagbearer of NXT UK since day one. In the six year history of the brand, I’ve grown up from a 19-year-old kid to a 25-year-old man. I’m called the Big Strong Boy for a reason. Ask anyone I’ve been it he ring with. At Worlds Collide, the NXT UK chapter comes to a close the same way it started: with me holding up this title.” But will it be a happy ending for Tyler Bate when he holds up that title and the NXT Championship together?

Backstage interview with Von Wagner & Robert Stone.

Stone interrupts McKenzie to say that Tyler Bate looks to survive, not unify titles. Everyone loves Tyler, but this is a new NXT. You think Von cares that Tyler is a two-time NXT UK Champion? That he’s the #1 attraction in all of Europe? That he’s the franchise? Von says Tyler is an international superstar, the Big Strong Boy. But Von is a big strong man! And we’ll see how strong and tough Tyler really is! And after Von crushes Tyler, he won’t even make it to Worlds Collide!

Cameron Grimes VS Javier Bernal!

Via a WWE Digital Exclusive, we learn that Bernal was talking trash about how he could’ve done some serious damage to the depressed Cameron Grimes. This is “Big Body Javi.” And in this match, Bernal makes his TV debut by knocking off the former North American Champion! But everyone else thinks he’s just a prick. Will Bernal back up his words? Or will Grimes use Bernal to reinvigorate his career and go #ToTheMoon?

But as Grimes makes his entrance, The Schism is watching from the perch! Will they not leave Grimes alone? But Grimes focuses on Bernal as the bell rings, until Gacy speaks. “Cameron, good luck.” Grimes and Bernal tie up, Grimes powers Bernal to a corner and digs his hands in. Bernal freaks out over that, and the ref backs Grimes up. Bernal was just exaggerating so he could CHOP BLOCK Grimes! Bernal BOOTS Grimes, fires off at the ropes, then whips Grimes to ropes. Grimes reverses and KICKS Bernal down! Fans fire up and Grimes snarls. Grimes storms in but Bernal YANKS him into buckles!

Bernal CLUBS Grimes, ROCKS him then kicks him. Bernal whips, Grimes reverses again but Bernal hits a BULLDOG! Cover, TWO! Bernal glares and stalks Grimes to a corner. Bernal stomps Grimes, digs his boot in, but lets off as the ref counts. Bernal clamps on with a chinlock but Grimes endures. Fans rally, Grimes fights up, and Grimes snapmares free! Bernal tackles Grimes but Grimes kicks him away to then KANGAROO KICK on the rebound! Bernal comes back again but into a back drop! Bernal flounders up, Grimes CLOBBERS him! And again! Grimes whips Bernal to ropes, then kitchen sink KNEES Bernal down! SLIDING KICK!

Fans fire up as Bernal goes to a corner. Bernal avoids the boot but not the SUPERKICK! Grimes aims, fans fire up, “TO! THE! MOON!” CAVE-IN!! Grimes stares Gacy down while he covers, Grimes wins!

Winner: Cameron Grimes, by pinfall

Grimes stares Gacy down even after, making sure Gacy understands he doesn’t need The Schism. But will the Schism disagree and “insist” he join them?

Blair Davenport speaks.

“Who is Blair Davenport, you ask? I’m what you get when you mix gothic charisma with cold-hearted fury.” Born in England, raised in New Zealand, she has a wicked willingness to do whatever she has to in order to win. So a message to the NXT Women’s Division: Enemies of the Heir, Beware Blair Davenport.

Alba Fyre speaks.

“No matter the weather, terrain or situation, those Fire Keepers kept those embers burning. Just like I won’t let anyone extinguish my flame. Lash won’t be the only woman to test me, but soon, all of them will know what she already knows: I am a warrior, and I will do whatever it takes to win. And to honor the women who surrounded that flame. From the Howls and Lochs of Scotland, all the way to NXT, keep your eyes peeled on the horizon. Because where there’s smoke, there’s Fyre!”

Blair Davenport VS Indi Hartwell!

The gothic heiress makes her NXT 2.0 in-ring debut, ready to prove she will dominate the world. But will she look less than #IMPRESSIVE against #IndiWrestling?

NXT returns and Blair makes her entrance. The bell rings and the two tie up. Indi puts Blair on ropes but lets off. They tie up again, Blair puts Indi in a corner, and she shoves Indi. Indi shoves back, rolls Blair up, ONE! Indi headlocks for a takeover but Blair fights up fast. Blair throws body shots, powers out, but Indi runs her over! Indi drags Blair up to a headlock to then hit another takeover. Blair fights up, fans rally, and Blair pulls hair. Blair then throws body shots, whips Indi, but Indi goes up and out. Indi ROCKS Blair, but Blair SHOTGUNS Indi down! Blair goes out to shove Indi but Indi avoids the post!

Indi elbows Blair, puts her in the ring, but Blair gets her with a DRAPING NECKBREAKER! Indi writhes, the ref checks on her, but Blair is chomping at the bit. Blair stomps Indi, the ref backs her off, but Blair gets Indi up to TWIST ‘N’ SHOUT! Cover, TWO! Indi is toughing it out and fans rally up but Blair clamps onto her. Blair wants the arms but Indi resists. Blair still gets the cobra clutch and she thrashes Indi around! Indi fights up, Blair throws knees, then hops on for a SLEEPER! Indi stays up and BACKPACK SENTONS! Blair lets go and both women crawl while fans rally up.

Blair and Indi head for each other, and Blair clinches. Indi ROCKS Blair! Then counter punches her! Then runs Blair over! Indi LARIATS, then dodges, to hit a SPINEBUSTER! Cover, TWO! Blair survives but Indi drags her up. Indi puts Blair in the ropes for an UPPERCUT, a BOOT, and then she climbs up as Blair flops over. Blair trips Indi off the top! Cover, TWO! Blair drags Indi up, but Indi gets a cradle! TWO! Blair BUZZSAWS Indi, then hauls her up! FALCON ARROW! Cover, Blair wins!!

Winner: Blair Davenport, by pinfall

It was rough from the start, but that’s how Blair likes it! Will all of NXT have to beware of Blair? But Blair isn’t done with Indi! KAMI-GOYE!! Indi falls out of the ring and Blair gets a mic! “The most menacing mistress of NXT UK has arrived! And I have just WASTED one of the best that this division has to offer. But y’know, I was #1 contender in the UK, so… I guess that the NXT Women’s Championship will do just fine. Because Blair Davenport is the rightful heir to the Women’s Championship!” But here comes the Toxic Goddess herself! Mandy Rose has the mic to tell Blair, “Wow. You’re reputation precedes you, honey.”

They haven’t met yet, so Mandy introduces herself. “And right now, you’re standing in MY ring, you entered into MY world, and in MY world, everyone follows my lead.” Mandy steps into the ring and tells Blair that Mandy is the most dominant women’s champion. And she’ll tell Blair like she’s told everyone else: put some respect on her name! You can’t just come over here and call the shots! Wait! MEIKO SATOMURA is here!! The Final Boss, the NXT UK Women’s Champion, is in the US! Meiko goes to the ring to stand with Blair and Mandy, also getting a mic. “Mandy, you’re wrong. You are not the most dominant Women’s Champion. That would be ME!”

Mandy tells Meiko that she is a legend, she’ll give Meiko that. But Mandy can’t think of a better way to put respect on her name than to beat a legend like Meiko! Well, at Worlds Collide, Mandy Rose VS Meiko Satomura, CHAMPION VS CHAMPION!! Blair says wait, hold on! No, no, no, these two can’t just forget about her! SHE is the #1 CONTENDER!! Fans tell Blair to “Shut The Hell Up!” but Meiko says okay. MAKE IT A TRIPLE THREAT MATCH!! The Final Boss dictates the terms, will the Goddess and the Heiress be able to hang with her?

Backstage interview with Tiffany Stratton.

Tiffany doesn’t care about the title scene right now, McKenzie, this is about her. Because she’s gonna beat Wendy Choo tonight, and then whoever walks out THE NXT Women’s Champion will have Tiffany to deal with. That sounds like she’s overlooking Wendy. Tiffany says, “Do I think I’m superior to my opponent? Um, yeah. Is that a crime? Um, no.” After tonight, Wendy won’t be able to show her face around here, which is a win for everyone. And then the Women’s Division and that unified title will be all about Tiffany. Tootles!

Tony D’Angelo meets with Legado Del Fantasma.

Last week, Elektra, Wilde & Cruz tried to get “cute.” They pulled out all the stops in that Street Fight: distractions, interference, brass knuckles. Cruz would’ve probably thrown the kitchen sink at Tony. But how’d that work out? This is why Tony is the Don and Escobar is gone! But Tony’s a forgiving man, so the past is the past. The future starts tonight with a win from Wilde & Cruz! C’mon, let’s go. Will Legado do as they’re told under Tony’s command? Or will the bitter taste in their mouths be too much to stomach?

JD McDonagh speaks.

“At Heatwave, I sacrificed myself. I stood in front of a charging bull, I just had to see what he had to offer. And y’know something? I think I enjoyed it more than you did. You’re never truly challenged if you run away from uncomfortable situations. Bron, my pain tolerance for you is only growing. So good luck at Worlds Collide. I’ll see you on the other side.” JD was hanging upside-down like a bat the whole time?! Will he fight his way back to the title? Or just creep out the competition?

Wes Lee & KC Squared respond to that.

Uh-uh, nope! That just gave Wes the creeps. Kayden asks Katana if she’s hung upside-down before. Yeah, but not like that! Between the ice bath, the acupuncture and then the finger prick with the pen, there is something wrong with JD! But let’s talk about the champs and all the gold that they have! Oh, oh! But take Wes’s advice. When you’re a champ, everyone’s coming for your titles. Keep your heads on a swivel. They have eyes on the back of their heads, and they’re the only true tag team champions in all of the WWE. They don’t need a tournament to prove it. Probably why they weren’t invited. OH!

But just like when Wes was a champ, KC Squared will take on anyone from anywhere. Worlds are colliding, and anyone who wants it can come get it. Wes is loving the vibes, but know someone is bound to pick that gauntlet up. KC Squared is counting on it! Well okay!

Indi Hartwell is still ringside?

She has a mic to say, “So this is what rock bottom feels like, huh? Sucks, doesn’t it? And no disrespect to Blair Davenport, she’s incredible. She’s probably gonna go unify the titles at Worlds Collide and take it back to NXT Europe. But Blair isn’t the problem. It’s me! It’s always been me!” Fans boo in disagreement but four months ago, Indi looked at herself and said she’s done with tears and setbacks. She was gonna stand on her own two feet, reach for the stars, reignite her career, but… Here she sits, in the same position she was after Stand & Deliver! What is she even saying? She’s just saying words!

WAIT! LUMIS IS HERE!! Indi turns around to see him!! They crawl to each other in the ring! Fans are going nuts for #InDex as they hug it out! And kiss! They’re reunited and they take their leave, Lumis carrying Indi away! They make it to the back, and Lumis gives Indi another message. She kisses him, and there are police sirens?! Well, he did kidnap Miz… Lumis is arrested and Indi looks at the letter. Fans are upset, but at least Lumis got to say- Er, write, good-bye.

Backstage interview with Cora Jade.

It was a controversial win, but Cora disagrees. She beat Roxanne Perez in the middle of that ring and no one believes she’s better? Yeah, yeah, everyone loves Roxie, she’s so amazing. But if Roxie’s amazing, then what does that make the woman who beat her? If the roles were reversed and Roxie DDT’d Cora on her kendo stick, everyone would be saying Cora got what she deserved! But because Cora does it, O M G, it’s the worst thing ever! And to all the guys who’ve never even been on a date, tweeting their little fingers away about how that should’ve been a disqualification, she has this to say: Go on a date! And no, inflatable dolls don’t count. Cora is better than Roxie, get over it.

Legado del Fantasma w/ Tony D’Angelo VS The Dyad w/ Joe Gacy!

Joaquin Wilde & Cruz Del Toro have no choice but to follow The Don, while “Rip Fowler” and “Jagger Reed” chose to follow Joe Gacy. Whose leadership will lead their duo to a victory?

Returning the favor from earlier, Grimes is watching this match from the perch! Gacy takes notice and smiles, though he’s always smiling one way or another. Meanwhile, Tony snatches away the Legado shirts and throws them to the crowd! The teams sort out, and Cruz starts against Reed. The two circle, fans rally for Legado, and they tie up. Reed wrenches an arm, wristlocks, but Cruz rolls and kips up to wrench back. Cruz headlocks, Reed powers out, and thigs speed up. Reed hurdles, Cruz slides, and Reed denies the tilt-o-whirl. Cruz dodges the haymaker, RANAS Reed, and fans fire up! Tony doesn’t like the lucha?

Reed headlocks, Rip tags in, and things speed up again. Cruz dodges the haymaker from Rip to springboard and use Reed as a boost to FLYING ARM-DRAG Rip! Wilde gets in to RANA Reed out, and the Dyad regroups at the ramp. Legado double DIVE and take them out! Tony is upset and tells them no lucha crap! This is wrestling! Cruz puts Rip in and argues with Tony but Tony says he doesn’t care. Cruz shoulders into Rip, springboards and crossbodies, TWO! Fans rally, Cruz wrenches and wristlocks but Rip knees low! Rip sucker punches Wilde, too, but then Cruz JABS and CHOPS! Cruz whips, Rip holds ropes and BOOTS back!

Tag to Reed, Rip clinches and Reed ENZIGURIS! Then MAYHEM IN MOTION, down goes Wilde! Rip DIVES?! He never did that as Gibson, maybe Gacy’s teachings are working. Reed drags Cruz up to ROCK him with a left. Reed then ROCKS Cruz again, and he drags Cruz up for another haymaker! Cruz falls out, Rip tags in and sets him up, PLANCHA BACKBREAKER! That’s still grizzled, but hugging it out is definitely The Schism… The Dyad puts Cruz back in, Rip ROCKS Cruz but Cruz fights back! He BOOTS Rip, ROCKS Reed, but Rip knees low! Rip shoves but Cruz KICKS and ENZIGURIS! Fans fire up as both men crawl!

Hot tags to Reed and Wilde! Wilde springboard SENTONS Reed! Wilde fires off haymakers, dodges Reed and wheelbarrows to arm-drag him to a corner! Rip runs in but into a ripcord and CHOP! Wilde goes up, around and FLYING ARM-DRAGS Rip! Then he TILT-O-WHIRL DDTS! The fans are thunderous but Tony is furious! Clothesline and tag, Cruz GAMANGIRIS! Tag back, Legado hit a DOUBLE SUPELX! Cover, Rip breaks it! Cruz whips, Rip reverses and he throws Cruz out! Wilde DECKS Rip but Reed rolls him up! Wilde rolls through to swing around to a ghost pin, TWO!!

Reed runs in but into haymakers! Reed powers Wilde back, tag to Rip, but Wilde wheelbarrows. Reed feeds him to Rip! GRIT YOUR TEETH! And then, TICKET TO HAYHEM!! Cover, The Dyad wins!

Winners: The Dyad, by pinfall

Gacy celebrates with his disciples as they put the last nail in the coffin of Legado. They hug it out, and then they look to Grimes. Will Grimes join The Schism? Will Cruz & Wilde leave Tony?

Javier Bernal walks around backstage.

People tell him he had a good match and will get a win next time, but he shrugs it off. But then a young lady says he “almost” got that win. Almost? Almost might be good enough for someone like her, but for “Big Body Javi,” that doesn’t cut it. Next time she talks to him, show respect. But then Hank the security guard tells Bernal to respect a lady. Oh, whatever, man. He can do what he wants, he’s Big Body Javi! The young lady leaves and Hank tells Bernal he can call himself whatever he wants. But you do NOT talk to a woman like that. Time to hit the showers. Bernal leaves, but will Hank have to put this prick in his place?

Wilde, Cruz & Lopez storm out of the building.

They cannot believe how Tony’s treating them. Worst night ever. But then an SUV pulls up! And Escobar’s in the driver’s seat! “You didn’t think I was gonna leave without you, did you? La familia stays together. So you’re ready to go?” YES! Legado defies Tony D’Angelo and leaves NXT as one! But where will we see them next?

Tyler Bate VS Von Wagner w/ Robert Stone!

NXT UK’s first and only Triple Crown Champion is preparing to become the first UNDISPUTED NXT Champion, but that’s at Worlds Collide. Will Tyler survive entering Wagner’s World? Or will Bate prove who is really the big strong man around here?

NXT returns as Von & Stone make their entrance. Bron is watching this backstage as the bell rings, and the two circle. Bate and Von tie up, Bate gets an arm but Von picks him up and throws him away! Fans rally for Bate as Von eggs him on. Bate dodges Von, headlocks, but Von powers up. Bate holds on, Von powers out, and Von runs Bate over! Von YANKS Bate’s arm, RAMS shoulders, then knuckle locks to wrench the wrist. Von straight arm levels Bate up! Bate slips off to ROCK, CHOP and ROCK Von again! Von pushes, Bate dodges and DROPKICKS! And DROPKICKS! And then UPPERCUTS in the corner!

Bate climbs up to rain down fists! Fans count but Von shoves Bate away at 5 and BOOTS Bate down! Fans boo and Bron shakes his head. Von sits Bate up to rain down fists! Von TOSSES Bate into a corner, then runs in to SPLASH! Von brings Bate around, CLUBS him down, and Von talks trash. Von drags Bate up, trophy lifts him, and then DROPS Bate! Bate writhes while Von soaks up the heat. Von clamps onto Bate with a chinlock but fans chant, “You Suck! You Suck!” Bate endures, fights up, and fans rally. Bate throws body shots, then more body shots, then haymakers! Von shoves, but Bate dodges to fire off more hands!

Bate kicks low, reels Von in, but Von fights the underhooks! Von back drops but Bate lands on his feet! Bate leaps but into Von’s arms! BACKBREAKER and a FALL AWAY SLAM! Von looms over Bate but fans boo. Von rains down fists, then CLUBS Bate in the chest. Fans rally up and Von pulls Bate’s hair. The ref reprimands, Von scoops Bate for another trophy lift, but Bate slips off! Bate UPPERCUTS Von, then ENZIGURIS him out of the ring! Fans fire up and Bate builds speed to FLY! Direct hit and down goes Von at the ramp! Bate gets up and fans rally behind him, Von shoves Bate, gets in the ring, but Bate pursues!

Bate runs in to UPPERCUT at the corner! And then a clinch, but Von fights off the exploder. Von reels Bate in, gets him up, but Bate fights the bomb! Bate lands on his feet to fire off heavy hands! Von drops to a knee, shoves Bate away but Bate roars! Fans fire up, but Von reels Bate in for a short arm LARIAT! Cover, TWO! Bate survives, showing why he is a champion at all. Von snarls, drops elbows, then rains down more fists! Fans rally up again but Von drags Bate to his feet. Von fireman’s carries but Bate fights free! Bate shoves Von, dodges the boot, and rebounds to LARIAT! Von stays up but Bate just runs again!

Rebound- Choke grip! But Bate slips through the slam! Bop up, BANG hits!! And then BANG hits again!! And then ROLLING KICK! Von flounders around, Bate hits an EXPLODER! And a kip up! Bate goes up top and fans are thunderous, SKY TWISTER! Cover, Bate wins!

Winner: Tyler Bate, by pinfall

Wagner’s World just got rocked! Will we see #TylerTwoBelts at Worlds Collide?

The Diamond Mine is feeling good.

Kemp and the Creeds got Gallus tonight, and they’ll get ’em again in next week’s Six Man Tag! Roddy says yeah, they’re gonna destroy Gallus! Uh, no, Roddy, Kemp & The Creeds will destroy Gallus. Julius only rolls with teammates he can trust. He doesn’t trust Roddy? No, he doesn’t. Briggs & Jensen walk in and tell Diamond Mine to calm down. Creeds have Gallus next week, so save a piece for these guys. Strong says absolutely not! Not after what Gallus did to Diamond Mine! Diamond Mine is gonna destroy Gallus! Strong tells Julius to ignore “these dorks,” but Briggs calls Strong out for running his mouth!

Briggs says Strong went on and on about the Creeds being the best team in the WWE. But they’re not even the best team in NXT! Strong says Briggs and Jensen are both dorks! Julius tells Strong that his opinion doesn’t carry as much weight around here as it used to. Julius steps to Briggs & Jensen to say that if they want it, they can get it after Gallus! Both teams are looking forward to it, but will things get complicated in the NXT Tag Division with two brands merging as one?

Lights Out: Tiffany Stratton VS Wendy Choo!

Ever since coming to NXT, “Buff Barbie” has been more like a Mean Girl in spandex. And number one among those she’s picked on is the pajama partying, prank playing fan favorite. There will be no disqualifications, no count-outs, and no holding back! Who wins and who goes night-night when it’s Lights Out?

NXT returns and Wendy makes her entrance. She makes sure to hydrate, then she unzips her Taco Tuesday onesie to show off her chocolate chip romper! The bell rings and the lights go down, and both women start throwing hands! Wendy ROCKS Tiffany but Tiffany CHOPS Wendy! Wendy CHOPS back, then whips Tiffany to ropes. Tiffany reverses, Wendy ducks ‘n’ dodges and DROPKCISK Tiffany down! Fans fire up and Tiffany bails out. Wendy goes out, runs in, but dodges the tennis racket attack! Wendy kicks low, grabs the racket and JAMS Tiffany with it! Wendy ten grabs a trash can and RAMS Tiffany with it! And then dumps it out on her!

Wendy makes Tiffany wear the can, then she grabs the racket to SMACK the can! And again! Quite the forehand serve she’s got there! And then she SMACKS the top of the can! Tiffany falls over, Wendy takes the can off and puts it in the ring. Wendy puts Tiffany in the ring, whips her to a corner, and then runs in to RAM into her! Wendy digs her shoulder in, RAMS it in again and again, then runs side to side to BOOT Tiffany down! Fans fire up but Tiffany bails out. Tiffany goes looking under the ring, and brings out the toolbox! Wendy storms over, but Tiffany JAMS her with the box! Tiffany dumps the tools out and grabs a spare crossbar!

Tiffany aims, Wendy dodges, and Tiffany SMACKS the post! tiffany’s hand gets hurt from that, and Wendy smacks Tiffany off the apron. Tiffany gets in the ring, fans chant “We Want Tables!” but Wendy gets in the ring to get the trash can. Wendy wedges that into the corner, storms up to Tiffany, and whips her into the corner! Tiffany stops from hitting the can, then she elbows Wendy away. Tiffany whips Wendy , she stops herself and mule kicks Tiffany. Then front kicks! Then CLOBBERS Tiffany! Wendy eggs Tiffany on, whips her to ropes, then hits an OVERHEAD Belly2Belly! Fans are fired up as Tiffany is in the corner.

Wendy handsprings in, but Tiffany sends her into the can! And then RAMS her into it! Wendy flops out of the ring, Tiffany taunts her and RAMS her into steel steps! Tiffany says she can do this all day, and NXT goes picture in picture.

Tiffany flexes on Wendy, talks more trash, then slaps Wendy around. Tiffany talks trash on the fans, too, then brings Wendy up. Tiffany smacks Wendy off the apron, throws trash at her, then buries her in it. Tiffany paces around while Wendy sit sup. Wendy throws body shots and haymakers, then dodges Tiffany to CLOBBER her with her thermos! Wendy goes back to her bed and starts pushing it down the ramp! She gains speed and RAMS Tiffany with it! The bed stops next to the ring, but Tiffany JAMS Wendy with a chair! Then SMACKS her with it! Tiffany SMACKS Wendy again, then throws the chair down.

Tiffany pushes Wendy around, talks more trash, then dumps the mattress off the bedframe. Tiffany drags Wendy over, stands her up, but Wendy blocks the suplex! And again! Wendy RAMS Tiffany into the apron, puts her in the ring, and brings a chair with her. Tiffany ROCKS Wendy as NXT returns to single picture. And again! But Wendy holds onto ropes! Wendy RAMS into Tiffany, hurries inside, but Tiffany hits a POWERSLAM! Cover, TWO! Fans rally while Wendy writhes. Tiffany crawls and finds the chair again. Tiffany sets the chair on top of Wendy, goes up the corner, and MOONSAULTS to FLOP!

Wendy writhes, the chair is in the middle of the ring, but Wendy crawls her way around to Tiffany. Wendy brings Tiffany up to suplex her onto the chair! Cover, TWO!! Tiffany is showing her toughness but Wendy goes outside the ring. Wendy grabs that crossbar Tiffany was using, and she puts it across Tiffany’s face! Tiffany endures the Full Metal Camel Clutch! Tiffany reaches out, grabs her purse, and she gets her HAIRSPRAY! She sprays Wendy in the face!! Tiffany gets the can, JAMS Wendy with it, then sets the can down. Tiffany brings Wendy up to POWERBOMB her on the trash can! Cover, TWO!!

Fans are fired up as Wendy survives! Wendy crawls and Tiffany pursues, they’re both going for the corner. “This is Awesome!” as Tiffany goes up the corner, only for Wendy to YANK her down! Wendy goes outside the ring, looks around in the bedding, and she brings her body pillow in! Wendy CLOBBERS Tiffany with it! Because inside that pillow is LEGO BRICKS! Wendy pours them all out on the mat, and there’s a lot of them! Fans are loving this as Wendy brings Tiffany around. Tiffany breaks the full nelson, but Wendy fights the German Suplex! Wendy elbows Tiffany away, but runs into a scoop! FALL AWAY SLAM! Wendy just narrowly misses the pile!

Tiffany drags Wendy up and tries again! Scoop SLAM onto the Legos! Wendy writhes and fans are thunderous for “NXT! NXT!” Tiffany drags herself up the ropes, runs and DOUBLE STOMPS Wendy onto the Legos! Cover, TWO!!! Tiffany can’t believe it but Wendy is still in this! Fans again declare “This is Awesome!” as Tiffany tries to figure out what to do now. Tiffany gets her purse again, kicks Wendy out of the ring, and Tiffany brings out powder! But Wendy kicks the powder into Tiffany’s face! Full Nelson BODY SLAM through the bedframe!! Fans lose their minds over that one as Wendy puts Tiffany back in the ring!

Wendy goes up the corner, and from the very top, VADER BOMB!! Cover, Wendy wins!

Winner: Wendy Choo, by pinfall

And that’s night-night for Tiff-Tiff! Will Wendy use this momentum to get herself that future title opportunity Tiffany was talking about?

The champions and challengers are backstage for contract signings.

Blair signs her part, then Mandy signs hers. She slides the contract to Meiko, and Meiko signs her part. It is now official! The Triple Threat for the NXT and NXT UK Women’s Championships is official, it will be Winner Takes All! And at the same time, Bate and Bron sign their contract to make their match official! Who will be the UNDISPUTED NXT Champion and UNDISPUTED NXT Women’s Champion after Worlds Collide?

My Thoughts:

A great NXT to set us up for a lot of Worlds Collide action. It seems instead of transitioning the NXT UK titles into NXT Europe titles, they’re unifying NXT UK with their NXT US counterparts. Bron and Tyler had a great promo to set up their unification match, and I feel like that one could go either way. I personally hope Tyler wins, though. As great as Bron is, his push needs to slow down at some point. Tyler would make for a fresh top champion, but given JD’s promo, I have a bad feeling Bron wins. Tyler had a good match with Von, and of course Tyler wins, but this momentum might be to feed the usual booking math.

Speaking of JD, Wes Lee’s reaction to JD’s promo makes me think we get Wes VS JD as a feud before JD gets back to a title. And KC Squared talking smack on all the brands got me wondering if we’ll get crossover between NXT and a team from Raw or SmackDown. Blair VS Indi had a rough match, honestly. That Falcon Arrow did not land quite how it should have, but point was, of course Blair wins. Blair calls out the champs, the champs respond, and that Triple Threat will be great. But of course, this is to protect the champs while at least one of them loses their titles. I feel like the best scenario is Blair pinning Mandy so Meiko isn’t hurt, and then Blair will have to face the pressure of being chased.

I also like that we got quiet contract signings in the “office,” not wordy ones in the ring. We’ve seen plenty of contract signing segments, and will still see them again and again on RawDown, so NXT doesn’t need to waste time with them. But while the top singles titles are being unified, I’m surprised we’re not outright getting that with the tag titles. Honestly, that was the only weird spot of tonight. Lash attacking Fallon is one thing, but how was Pretty Deadly attacking Briggs & Jensen not a disqualification to end the title match? Either way, Gallus wins the match without taking the titles, so what would it matter?

Gallus and Diamond Mine get into it, but then so do Gallus and Pretty Deadly, and Diamond Mine with Briggs & Jensen. I do like that we’re getting these blended stories, but what does this mean for the UK tag titles? Will there be one last UK tag title match and then the titles are retired? Will we get Creeds VS Briggs & Jensen? Or will we get a wild Fatal 4 Way that’s also Winners Take All? Personally, hoping for that third option. It’d work out much like the Women’s Triple Threat, where the champions are protected. One team, or both teams, could lose their belts, and then they chase the new Undisputed NXT Tag Team Champions in the Fall.

Bernal is rising up the ranks since he got to face Grimes tonight, but of course he loses. And “Hank” is totally gonna kick Bernal’s ass at some point, that’ll be great for Hank. The Schism watching Grimes and Grimes watching Schism, Grimes VS Gacy probably won’t be set up for the go-home, but it could help lead the way into what comes after Worlds Collide. Legado VS Dyad was a great tag match, but it makes sense in many ways for Dyad to win. Dyad needs something to get going, and it was a great sendoff for Legado since they’re ALL leaving NXT to probably show up on SmackDown this Friday. Or the Friday after Clash at the Castle so they can hit the ground running.

Great introduction to Charlie Dempsey for the NXT 2.0 fans, and him feuding with Chase U is going to be a lot of fun. Cora has a good promo talking trash on, well, internet fans like even myself. I will neither confirm or deny her assumptions about not having gone on a date or anything else of that kind, but I did question why a kendo stick DDT wasn’t a DQ. But this also means Cora VS Roxie II is on the horizon and that’s going to be awesome. Also good promo from Alba Fyre, reminding everyone that she’s still here and will be coming for the women’s championship in the future, too.

I loved the #InDex reunion, and I even love that it didn’t last because Lumis had to be (kayfabe) arrested. Lumis can get out on bail for kidnapping, Indi can join him on Raw, and we can even get to #InDex VS the It Couple, Miz & Maryse. That match probably won’t happen for Clash at the Castle, that’s too soon. But Extreme Rules is in October, and something about that feels just right for Dexter Lumis’ first major WWE event. And last but not least, we got an awesome match out of Wendy VS Tiffany under “Lights Out,” which is just Isla Dawn’s “World of Darkness.” But either way, great stuff, from the Legos to the bedframe breaking. And I am so glad it’s Wendy who won, she deserved the win in this blow-off, and with a 66% chance of a Heel being Women’s Champion, Wendy is a great Face to go after the title.

My Score: 8.6/10

Mitchell’s WWE SmackDown Results & Report! (4/26/24)

It’s Draft Day!

Published

on

And with the first overall pick of the 2024 WWE Draft, SmackDown selects…

The WWE Draft returns for 2024, the first four rounds being right here on Friday Night SmackDown! With champions protected, who ends up where to challenge them?

OFFICIAL RESULTS

  • Rey Mysterio & Dragon Lee w/ Zelina Vega & Carlito VS Angel Garza & Humberto Carrillo; Rey & Dragon win.
  • Bron Breakker VS Cedric Alexander; Bron wins.
  • WWE Women’s Championship #1 Contender’s Match: Naomi VS Tiffany Stratton; No Contest.
  • Cody Rhodes VS Carmelo Hayes; Cody wins.

PLAY BY PLAY

Backstage interview with Paul Heyman.

Kayla Braxton is with the Wise Man and says that here on night one of the Draft, there are already rumors circulating, including those about The Tribal Chief, Roman Reigns. Heyman will clarify these are not rumors regarding The Tribal Chief, Roman… Reigns. These are facts! Ladies and gentlemen, Your Tribal Chief, Roman Reigns, has voluntarily withdrawn from eligibility for this year’s Draft. That is not a negative but a positive. Who built SmackDown since the Pandemic? Roman Reigns. Who is the biggest star in the entire industry? Roman Reigns. Why would Roman Reigns hog the number one draft pick spotlight when he won’t be returning in the immediate future?

Read into his words, Kayla, that is not what a real Tribal Chief would do. Instead now, the pressure is on Nick Aldis. Because if Roman Reigns isn’t the first draft pick, then who is? The first two picks make history in a brand new era. And Heyman doesn’t know about you, but he is intrigued. No Tribal Chief up for grabs, who gets their opportunity to shine in the spotlight?

SmackDown throws it to the NXT Performance Center.

Jackie Redmond says the emotion down here is palpable! There is excitement, hope, and a little bit of nerves. But for these NXT Superstars, tonight is the culmination of a lifetime of hard work, dedication, a little bit of luck and a whole lot of self-belief. It was just last year that the NEW WWE Tag Team Champion, Grayson Waller, was hoping his name would be called. And it is funny this is NXT, but time to buy a vowel, throw in an E! Who is next? We find out tonight! The draft pool is deep, who rises to the top of the list?

Corey Graves is in the ring.

Corey welcomes Cincinnati and all of us at home to night one of the 2024 WWE Draft. Understandably, the GMs have their hands full, so Corey will be moderating the contract signing for the WWE Championship match that takes place next Saturday for Backlash: France. Without further ado, it’s the #1 contender, The Phenomenal AJ Styles! Styles makes his entrance, taking a seat at the table on camera right. And now, the Undisputed WWE Champion, the American Nightmare, Cody Rhodes! Cincy fires up and sings along, “WHOA~ OH~!” as Cody makes his entrance and gets his pyro before joining everyone in the ring.

Styles looks over the contract, absolutely tuning out the fans going wild for “CODY! CODY!” Styles then gets the mic to say before he signs, he doesn’t know if we realize that we’ve got two Georgia boys about to mix it up for the first time, and for the biggest prize in the game. Styles understands why they boo, but they gotta know that he doesn’t respect LA Knight, LA Knight got under his skin. He accepts that. But that’s why Styles lost at Mania. But what happened? Styles got his composure back and realized that he is Phenomenal. Styles BEAT Knight to earn the right to face Cody Rhodes at Backlash.

Now unlike Knight, Styles does respect Cody. They hadn’t crossed paths yet, but they’ve been down the same roads. They had to prove themselves outside of the WWE. And Styles is willing to believe that the same man who gave him advice a long time ago gave Cody the same advice, on how to stand on their own two feet and be the men they are today. That man was The American Dream, Dusty Rhodes. The fans cheer for “DUSTY! DUSTY!” Styles learned a lot from Dusty. Styles gets a little emotional thinking about Dusty, he was a good man. Dusty taught Styles how to carry himself, and to carry the weight of a championship.

And Styles looks at this WWE Championship here. The weight of this isn’t just the leather and gold. And at Backlash, we see if Cody can carry it. Styles goes back to his table, signs the contract, and then hands it off to Corey. Corey brings that to Cody, and Cody picks up his mic. “So… Cincinnati…! Whadda we wanna talk about? Certainly, we can talk about respect. There is not a locker room on Earth that you’ll find where everyone in it, every single person, they all respect AJ Styles. Last week, I went on to say you are the modern day Excellence of Execution. I respect the roads that you have traveled down to get here, the parallel paths that perhaps you and I have.

“Mutual respect, much respect. But that respect goes by the wayside at Backlash. I can feel it in your words to a degree. You’ve been here before. And it seems you’re implying that I cannot carry the weight of that championship. Well, good thing the man who trained me not far from where I sit now used to tell me all the time, it’s not about winning the title, it’s about keeping it.” The fans cheer that. Cody says boy does he respect Styles’ familiarity with Cody’s last name. But when you put C O D Y in front of it on this paper, that means they’ve never touched before. That means Backlash is a level playing field.

That means no matter how Phenomenal Styles is, this isn’t a dream match for Cody. It’s a must-win! Cody signs while the fans cheer, and it is official! Cody even throws the pen to the crowd as a free souvenir. Cody then offers a handshake, and Styles says y’know what? It was a beautiful thing to see Cody #FInishTheStory and win the title. But it’s a shame that Cody’s title reign will end at Backlash. Styles still shakes Cody’s hand, and then walks away. Cody picks up the belt and holds it high, will he get to hold it high again in Lyon, France?

Triple H is here!

Just as Cody was on his way to the back, The Game makes his way out here! HHH raises Cody’s hand, then invites him over to the podium. HHH welcomes us to the first round of the 2024 WWE Draft. It is a night that changes the landscape of the WWE going into the future, and things are a bit different this year. As the GMs ponder their next steps, they have to understand it is about protecting the roster they have as it is making the roster they want. Meaning that when they use their picks, they have just as much of a chance gaining a superstar as they do losing one they already have.

HHH just felt that since champs are protected and Cody will be staying here on SmackDown, maybe Cody could help read the SmackDown picks and HHH can read the Raw picks. And since SmackDown goes first, Cody reads first. Cody takes the card to say that with the first pick of the 2024 WWE Draft, SmackDown selects… The E S T, Bianca Belair! The stongEST, fastEST, roughEST, toughEST stays on Friday nights! HHH reads that for the second pick of the 2024 WWE Draft, Raw selects… YEET! JEY USO! Monday nights will still have Main Event Jey Uso! And the fans “YEET!” Cody says for the third pick, SmackDown selects… NXT’s Carmelo Hayes!

The fans fire up as SmackDown manages to snag… HIM! The former NXT Champion makes history again by being the first NXT superstar to be chosen this high in the Draft! HHH says that’s a hell of a pick. But then the fourth and final pick of this first round, Raw selects… SETH! FREAKIN’! ROLLINS! It is still going to be Monday Night Rollins as the Visionary stays on the red brand! Cody and HHH shake hands, and then Melo makes his way out! Melo has the mic to say when they talk about who’s next up, about who’s the hottest out, they don’t call them “the hottest out,” they just call him “Carmelo Hayes.”

The fans chant “WHOOP DAT TRICK!” to remind Melo how he’s leaving NXT. Melo says okay, okay. But then to Cody Rhodes, ever since Cody won the title, he’s been talking about “If you aim for the king, you best not miss.” Well, funny how that works. Because when Melo shoots, Melo don’t miss. And as a first round draft pick, what better way to shoot his shot on SmackDown than to shoot it right at Cody? Melo leaves the mic with Cody but Cody picks it up to say, “Fortune certainly favors the bold, but I dunno. You folks don’t wanna see me in action tonight, do ya?” The fans go wild! Oh, but what if Cody forgot his gear?

Oh that’s right! He didn’t forget his gear! And this title right here, for Cody, means absolutely 100%, Melo’s on! They shake on it, and we’re about to see a huge first-time-ever showdown! But will this bold first move work out for… HIM?

Rey Mysterio & Dragon Lee w/ Zelina Vega & Carlito VS Angel Garza & Humberto Carrillo!

The LWO is still not convinced Legado Del Fantasma had nothing to do with the beating that took the Boy Wonder out ahead of WrestleMania. Will the King of Lucha help get to the bottom of things? Or will Angel & “Berto” make it as easy as ABC, 1-2-3?

The teams sort out, Dragon runs up on Humberto but Humberto LARIATS him down! Humberto drags Dragon up, tears the shirt away and CHOPS! Humberto whips, Dragon ducks ‘n’ dodges to RANA! Humberto tumbles out, Dragon builds speed and FLIES! Direct hit and down goes Humberto! The fans fire up as Dragon pushes Humberto into the ring, goes up a corner, and then CROSSBODIES! Cover, TWO! Dragon facelocks to drag Humberto up, but Humberto wrenches out to CLUB Dragon down. Humberto waistlocks but Dragon throws elbows. Angel tags in as Humberto shoves Dragon. Dragon ducks but Angel holds ropes open, and Dragon tumbles to the floor!

The fans boo and LWO hurries to check on Dragon! Angel & Humberto just soak up the heat as SmackDown goes to break.

SmackDown returns and both Dragon and Humberto are down! They crawl, hot tags to Angel and Rey! The fans fire up as Rey ducks ‘n’ dodges and tilt-o-whirl RANAS! Angel ends up in a corner, he puts Rey on the apron, but Rey ROCKS Angel! Rey goes up to SEATED SENTON! Rey keeps moving, wrenches and kicks, then hops on! CODE RED! Cover, Humberto breaks it! The fans boo but Humberto hauls Rey up. Rey fights and RANAS Humberto up and out! But Angelo kicks, scoops, but Rey slips free! Angelo kicks low, reels REy in, and underhooks, but Rey fights those to RANA Angel onto ropes! Rey dials it up to 619!

Tag to Dragon and he takes aim! Angel stands, into the tilt-o-whirl, PROJECT DRAGON!! Cover, LWO wins!

Winners: Rey Mysterio & Dragon Lee, by pinfall

Carlito and Zelina hug it out with the team, but then Santos Escobar & Elektra Lopez walk out here. Santos says whoa, whoa, whoa, hold that celebration. Because Santos is many things, but a liar is not one of them. And when Santos said he did NOT attack Dragon that night before Mania, he meant it. Elektra has been working for weeks to track down the security footage from that night. And Rey… Oh, Rey. What you’re about to see, you will find very, very interesting. The footage plays, and it was CARLITO!! Carlito throw Dragon around backstage! No one can believe it, because of how well Carlito fooled even Dragno.

Speaking of, Carlito RAMS Dragon into Rey, then hits a BACKSTABBER! Never has that move’s name been more fitting! Carlito runs away in a panic, and Rey stands back up in a rage! Santos says he told Rey that he was right all along. They were supposed to be family, and yet look how that turned out. How will the LWO recover from this shocking development?

Bron Breakker VS Cedric Alexander!

The Big Bad Booty Nephew has been making a case for himself ever since showing up on SmackDown, and he’s already bringing the straps down! Is he going to break PRIMED Alexander while also breaking match time records? Or will Cedric prove he’s too fly for Bron?

The bell rings and Cedric dodges Bron to CHOP and ROCK! Cedric whips, Bron reverses and Cedric handsprings, into a SPEAR!! Cover, Bron wins!

Winner: Bron Breakker, by pinfall

Well, hard to say if that’s an all-time fast match, but that was a fast match! QR Code stuff going on, but will we all see Bron take the world by storm?

Nick Aldis heads out.

And waiting is Tiffany Stratton. She asks if he saw what she did last week. Wait, of course he did. Because she is the Center of the Universe. She dropped Naomi and Bayley, where is her title match? Aldis tells Tiff to look at his watch. It is NOT set to #TiffyTime. And he was this close to sending her to the back of the line. But then someone convinced him otherwise, good for her. Tonight, she goes 1v1 with Naomi again, and the winner faces Bayley for the title at Backlash. Whose stupid idea was that?! Bayley says DING DONG, it was hers. It is a win-win situation here. If Naomi wins, she gets the match she got cheated out of.

And if Tiff wins, then she’ll find out when she attacks the Role Model. Tiff gasps as she has a #TiffanyEpiphany. Bayley should be ringside for that match so she can see Tiff do what Bayley couldn’t, and that’s beat Naomi. Tootles. Tiff leaves, but will the only thing she gets is to #FeelTheGlow?

Michelle McCool and Torrie Wilson are here!

One is a former WWE Women’s Champion, the other is a WWE Hall of Famer, but they’re both here to present Draft picks! Michelle says with the first pick of the second round, SmackDown selects… The Viper, Randy Orton! SmackDown will still have to watch out for an RKO outta nowhere! Torrie says that with the second pick of the second round, Raw selects… BRON BREAKKER! We just saw Bron make quick work of opponents here on SmackDown, but now he’s gonna be rampaging on Raw!

Michelle says that with the third pick of the second round, SmackDown selects… NIA JAX! The Irresistible Force may have to change targets from the Women’s World to the Undisputed Women’s title, but will she be unstoppable all the same? And with the fourth and final pick of this round, Raw selects… LIV MORGAN! The Revenge Tour will still be part of Monday nights, will we watch Liv rise to the top?

The Bloodline arrives backstage.

Paul Heyman is there to greet them and open the door to the SUV. He apologizes for not being faster about that, but Solo Sikoa asks The Bloodline if they’ve been drafted. Not yet. Then give Solo the details. Okay, well, Roman Reigns withdrew right before the show began, and then Solo keeps adding members, so no one really knows what they’re getting if they draft The Bloodline! Solo sighs, and here comes Tama Tonga. Heyman asks they be patient but Solo wants Heyman to repeat that for him. Heyman gets scared, but then KEVIN OWENS jumps in! Kevin fires off on Tama, security and refs rush in to stop it!

The Prizefighter wants Solo’s “MFT” to bring the fight like he did last week! Security still drags Kevin away, but will he get that fight he wants?

Kayla Braxton is on stage.

SmackDown returns and Kayla welcomes us back to the show. And please welcome out the first overall pick, Bianca Belair! The fans fire up as The EST walks out on stage, and Kayla congratulates her on being the first overall pick. But let’s talk Backlash. Breaking news, Bianca and Jade Cargill are going to challenge for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships, against the Kabuki Warriors. How satisfying would it be to dethrone them on the stage of this magnitude? Bianca says so satisfying. She really hopes Jade gets drafted to SmackDown because given all this history with Damage CTRL, all the partners by her side, Bianca has never been the one to finally end it with them.

For everything they’ve done to her and this division, Bianca feels Jade is the perfect woman to help her end this. Now, DMG CTRL is falling apart piece by piece, and that final piece is the tag titles. So once Bianca & Jade take the gold at Backlash, the Kabuki Warriors won’t even have a reason to come back to SmackDown. But wait, they’re here now! Asuka & Kairi walk out here and Kayla moves aside. The Empress of Tomorrow and the Pirate Princess taunt the EST, but here comes The Storm! Jade makes her way to stand right by Bianca’s side. The four shout and argue, but this will be settled on May 4th!

WHOA! Tama and Kevin are brawling their way out here! The ladies move aside so the gentlemen can brawl all the way down to ringside! Tama hits low, gets in the ring, but Kevin pursues! Kevin TACKLES Tama, but Solo CLOBBERS Kevin! The fans boo as The Bloodline beats Kevin down! The refs hurry out here but clearly Solo’s Bloodline won’t listen! Tama DECKS producers, DECKS guards, HEADBUTTS them, throws hands and even THROWS the guards! Tama and Solo beat Kevin down again, but here comes Randy Orton! The Viper is still on SmackDown and he’s still pals with Kevin, so here he comes!

Orton DECKS Tama, fires hands on Solo, then RK- NO, Solo gets free and gets away! Orton wants to pursue, almost runs Jamie Noble and refs over to do it, but the Bloodline has gotten away! The fans cheer Randy on, and KAevin even hugs him! But then Kevin and Randy try to give chase! Security stops this, when and where will we see #RKKO strike down Solo and Tama?

The Dudley Boyz are here!

The fans fire up as Bubba Ray & D-Von are both here for the next round of picks! Cincy chants for “E C DUB! E C DUB!” Bubba and D-Von look at the cards, it’s hard to read. So out come the glasses! Bubba says with the first pick of the third round of the 2024 WWE Draft, SmackDown selects… L A KNIGHT! YEAH!! The Mega Star stays on Fridays! D-Von says with the second pick of the third round, Raw selects… RICOCHET! Mondays still has the One and Only, is Ricochet going to bring that WWE Speed Championship home to Raw, too?

Bubba says with the third pick of the third round, SmackDown selects… THE BLOODLINE! That means Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga and Paul Heyman are staying right here on Friday nights. And D-Von says with the final pick of this round, Raw selects… SHEAMUS! The Celtic Warrior just got back, but he won’t have to worry about going anywhere else but Monday nights.

WWE Women’s Championship #1 Contender’s Match: Naomi VS Tiffany Stratton!

It’s time to run it back once again! The Glow got robbed by the Spoiled Rich Girl, but supposedly, it’s #TiffyTime. Will Naomi prove there’s no such time on the clock? Or will Bayley be the one feeling the Backlash over giving Tiffany one more chance?

The bell rings and Naomi hits a THESZ PRESS! Naomi rains down fists, Tiffy shoves her away and goes to ropes, but Naomi gets up in Tiff’s face. Naomi whips, Tiff holds ropes to bail out and fans boo. Naomi scowls, runs in and WRECKS Tiff with a dropkick! Naomi then gets Tiff up, SMACKS her off the apron, and then SMACKS her off it again! And again! Naomi puts Tiff in, goes up a corner, but Tiff gets under the jump! Naomi runs back up but Tiff YANKS her into ropes! Tiff runs to HIP ATTACK! Naomi sputters, Tiff scowls and drags Naomi up, to then put through ropes. But Naomi RAMS into Tiff!

Naomi reels Tiff in, for a HEATSEEKER! Tiff flops to the floor, and then Naomi SPLIT LEG DROPS! Naomi says it’s #NaomiTime, but SmackDown goes to break.

SmackDown returns and Naomi runs, but into a SPINEBUSTER! High stack, TWO! Naomi survives and Tiff is frustrated but the fans rally up. Tiff drags Naomi up, whips her to a corner, but Naomi goes up and sunset flips! TWO! Tiff escapes, knees Naomi low, then whips. Naomi slides under the lariat to then mule kick! Then she headscissor SPIKES Tiff down! Cover, TWO! Tiff survives but barely, and Naomi keeps her cool. Naomi headlocks, but Tiff shoves her into buckles! Tiff runs, but Naomi follows, DOUBLE RUNNING FACEBUSTERS take them both down! The fans fire up as the two rise!

Naomi KICKS, ROCKS and ROCKS Tiff again! Naomi fires shots again and again but Tiff knees low! Tiff reels Naomi in, but Naomi wrenches out to ENZIGIRI! And then BUCKLE BULLDOG! But then NIA JAX attacks Bayley!? Nia SMACKS Bayley off buckles, rains down fists, and this momentarily distracts Naomi. Naomi refocuses, but by now, Tiff’s slipped away! Nia KICKS Bayley in the side, so Naomi goes out to ROCK her! Nia POSTS Naomi and that throws the match out!

No Contest

The fans boo as Nia ruins the fun, then runs Bayley over! Nia smiles as she blows kisses to Cincy. Tiff smiles, she drags Naomi up and puts her in the ring. Then she drags Bayley in! Tiff wants a repeat of last week as she puts them side by side in the drop zone! Tiff then goes up and up for the PRETTIEST MOONSAULT EVER!! Tiff says it’s her time, but the #1 contendership is still in question. Who gets their shot at the Role Model at Backlash?

B-Fab and the Street Profits meet up backstage.

Angelo Dawkins has a “WHO-DEY” sign, but Montez Ford is wondering where Bobby Lashley is right now. B-Fab says calm down, he’ll be here. Byron Saxton walks over and apologizes for interrupting. He doesn’t know what the Draft destination for this group will be until Monday Night Raw, but we do know that The Profits will challenge A-Town Down Under for the WWE Tag Team Championships. YESSIIIIIIR~! B-Fab says it doesn’t matter where they get drafted. The Profits are going to take down A-Town Down Under and take those titles. Then they’ll have their first class tickets right back to SmackDown.

SmackDown? Did someone say SmackDown~? In walk Austin Theory & Grayson Waller, showing off the titles. And Theory says you can’t have SmackDown without the GREATEST undefeated tag team of all time. And sorry, Dawkins, but these are championships, something the Bengals know nothing about! B-Fab keeps Dawkins back, but then in steps Bobby Lashley! The All Mighty scares Theory & Waller right off, and Dawkins says see y’all next Friday! Will there be nothing keeping these Profits down the night before Backlash?

The Final Testament speaks.

Karrion Kross says good evening. What’s going on here? You guessed it! More random acts of violence! Just follow him. Kross & Scarlett lead the way to show The Authors of Pain beating down New Catch Republic! Rezar beats down Pete Dunne while Akam victimizes Tyler Bate! Paul Ellering says they will know about sacrifice! Kross says whether they get drafted to Raw or stay on SmackDown, the violence will continue until they get what they want! So sayeth The Final Testament!!

Teddy Long and JBL are here!

The Hall of Famer General Manager and the Hall of Famer WWE Champion are both here, ready to give us the fourth and final round of picks tonight! Teddy gets right to it! The first pick of the fourth round, SmackDown selects… AJ STYLES! The Phenomenal One is really an obvious choice, because one way or another, the WWE Championship stays with SmackDown! JBL says the second pick of the fourth round, Raw selects… THE ALPHA ACADEMY! Raw keeps Chad Gable, Otis, Maxxine Dupri & Akira Tozawa, A THANK YEW~!

Teddy says with the third pick of this round, SmackDown selects… ANDRADE! A big move as now El Idolo will be part of Friday nights. And with the final pick of this fourth round, Raw selects… NXT’S Kiana James! The Calculator, the former NXT Women’s Tag Team Champion, has the Raw hat to put on, and after a quick hype package, Jackie Redmond is there to interview her. Kiana, congratulations! You are heading to Monday Night Raw! How much does this mean to her? This means the world to her. She is filled with gratitude, but also knows every decision she has made up to this point has been by design to get her here.

Kiana is so proud of her time in NXT, but she’s ready to show Raw why she is the One Percent. Was she surprised? Of course she was! HBK is here to wish her luck and congratulations. Is Kiana going to start the hostile takeover of the Raw Women’s Division?

Backstage interview with Nick Aldis.

Kayla is with the SmackDown GM and says that with night one in the books, how does he feel about SmackDown’s selections? He feels really good about them. SmackDown’s future is bright, he can’t wait for the new recruits to show up and show out for the blue brand. But he also wants to turn attentions to Backlash, because he’s got some new matches to announce! The first PLE in France, this is exciting stuff, Kayla. Aldis says that the WWE Women’s Championship will now be on the line in a Triple Threat! Bayley VS Naomi VS Tiffany Stratton! Will the odds make it that much harder for the Role Model to succeed?

There’s one more match to announce, but Aldis will let the GM GOAT take it from here. Teddy Long steps in, and don’t forget. We’ll talk about this tag team match. The Bloodline VS Kevin Owens & Randy Orton! Holla, players. Solo & Tama will have to face The Viper and the Prizefighter, will #RKKO strike fast and strike hard?

Cody Rhodes VS Carmelo Hayes!

The American Nightmare just put pen to paper for his match with the Phenomenal One, but he isn’t one to shy away from a challenge. The former NXT Champion is shooting his shot, but will this be nothing but net? Or will it be a frustrating airball?

The bell rings and the two circle. They tie up, the fans rally for Cody as he puts Melo in a corner then arm-drags him away. Melo runs up, Cody headlocks, Melo powers out then drops. Melo hurdles, but Cody kicks low to RHODES UPPERCUT! Melo staggers to ropes, the fans fire up, but then melo throat chops and springboard FLYING LARIATS! Melo says that’s why he’s a first round pick! But then Cody CLOBBERS him! Cody asks if Melo’s ready for this, and SmackDown goes to break.

SmackDown returns once again and Cody has a headlock. Cody hits a takeover, Melo flails and kicks around, but Cody grinds him down. Melo pushes with his forearm, then headscissors, but Cody kips free. Melo CHOPS, the fans “WOO~!” but Cody brushes himself off. Melo pie faces Cody! Cody fires forearms on Melo, then whips, but Melo reverses. Melo ELBOWS Cody, then runs up to KICK him in the side! Melo fires forearms and CHOPS in a corner, then throws body shots. Melo digs his boot in, the ref counts, and Cody goes to another corner. Cody eggs Melo on, Melo storms up, but Cody puts him in the corner to CHOP!

Cody swings, Melo dodges and CHOPS! Cody turns things around to CHOP! The fans rally, Cody whips corner to corner, then he back drops Melo away! Melo staggers up, Cody runs, and he rallies on Melo with forearms! Cody goes up and over in a corner but Melo tilt-o-whirls, LA MYSTICA! Melo springboards, FADE AWAY! Cover, TWO! Cody survives that flying DDT, but we see the NXT roster all fired up watching Melo take it to the champ. Melo sits Cody up, drags him into a facelock, but the fans rally for Cody. Cody fireman’s carries but Melo slips free to dragon sleeper! Melo grins, but Cody cradles! TWO!!

Melo swings, Cody boots, then Cody springboards to BEAUTIFUL DISASTER! Melo flips inside-out, Cody covers, TWO! Melo is still in this and he snarls up at Cody. Melo gives a forearm, Cody gives it back, and the fans rally up. Cody scoops Melo, storms around, and then hits a RUNNING POWERSLAM! Cover, TWO! Melo survives and Cody grows frustrated. Cody pounds the mat, the fans rally up, and then Cody goes to ropes. Cody springboards again, CODY CUTTER! Cover, TWO!! Melo survives yet again, proving why he’s a former NXT Champion, on top of NXT North American Champion! But then Cody drags him up!

Cody back suplexes, Melo lands out of it, then FIRST 48! Doe goes Cody and Melo goes up! Melo is setting up for the game winner! NOTHING BUT- NO, Cody avoids the flying leg drop! Melo rolls through, Cody dodges to SUPERKICK! Cody brings Melo around, but Melo gets free! They both run, both springboard, but completely miss each other, and Cody takes a rough landing! Melo drags Cody up, reels him in, but Cody wrenches out to dragon sleeper! CROSS RHODES!! Cody shakes out the bad arm but still makes the cover, and Cody wins!

Winner: Cody Rhodes, by pinfall

Melo took his shot but it was blocked! Even so, Cody sits Melo up to show him respect and tell him he’s still the future. But did this match end up more of a trap game for Cody after that crash landing? Or will he be alright in time for Backlash and his phenomenal opponent?

Speaking of, Styles sneaks right into the ring! Cody sees him in time and Styles stays back. Cody and Styles stare down, but Styles says it was that close. Styles offers a handshake, and Cody takes it. There’s still respect here, for now. But will nothing stop Styles from turning Cody’s story into a tragedy after all?

My Thoughts:

A great SmackDown to open the WWE Draft but to also set up Backlash. To recap, SmackDown took Bianca, Melo, Orton, Nia, LA Knight, The Bloodline, Styles and Andrade while Raw took Jey, Rollins, Bron, Liv, Ricochet, Sheamus, The Alpha Academy, and Kiana. Many of those choices made sense, as picks won’t be wasted on keeping champions on brands, and just need to be used to keep most stories alive and change up a few others. Kiana is perhaps one of the more surprising moves, but well-deserved. She has been a solid character and solid in-ring performer almost from the start, she’s a solid addition to Raw.

Bron of course demolished his opponent tonight, it’s just a shame it was Cedric and not local enhancement talent. But Bron will also be a good addition to Raw, but maybe he can move past his squash match phase and get right to story. Melo being a first round pick was great stuff, and he had a great promo with Cody to give us tonight’s main event. That double springboard whiff was definitely a timing problem, but at the same time, a Fade Away countered into a Cody Cutter would’ve been way too epic just for TV. Cody with a great win, and we got a really good contract signing segment, but you can bet Cody retains.

Really good tag match from LWO VS Legado but naturally Rey & Dragon won. I knew it was only a matter of time before Carlito was outed, and how he handled being exposed was pretty good. And with Andrade being drafted to SmackDown, you just know that means Andrade joins the LWO. The Final Testament attacking New Catch Republic was a wild moment, I almost thought Ellering was going to use the pliers in his hands to grab at fingers. Maybe we get that next week for SmackDown in France. Good promos from A-Town Down Under and the still technically unnamed faction of Bobby Lashley’s. As great as The Profits are, it feels like Theory & Waller will cheat to retain.

Really good promo with Tiff and Bayley to set up Naomi VS Tiff round 3, but I did not think Nia Jax would disrupt all that. A Triple Threat at Backlash is good stuff, it will protect Bayley if she loses, but can also protect Naomi and Tiff if Bayley uses them against each other to win. Good promo from Bianca that then turned into the shouting match of Bianca & Jade with Kabuki Warriors. Their tag title match is official, and I’m pretty sure Bianca & Jade win. I also liked that this segment ended up having Kevin and Tama brawl right through it. Orton saving Kevin was a great move, RKKO VS Solo & Tama is going to be awesome stuff, I can’t wait to see it.

My Score: 8.8/10

Andrew’s TNA iMPACT! Results & Match Ratings: 4.25.2024

We just got done with Rebellion, and Under Siege is two weeks away! Gotta see how these dots connect!

Published

on

Rebellion had quite a few returns, Mike Santana, Sami Callihan and Broken Matt Hardy. All three of these guys could easily be main event players, and its nice to mix up and expand what felt like a rather small pool of potential challengers.

Under Siege is only like 2 weeks out, so we’ll see how the dots connect in such a short period of time.

Ratings:

  • Mike Santana vs Myron Reed w/Trey Miguel & Zachary Wentz: Santana wins via Spin the Block – ** 1/2
  • #1 Contender: Frankie Kazarian vs Josh Alexander: Josh wins via Grapevine Ankle Lock – ***
  • ASH by Elegance vs Xia Brookside: Xia wins via School Girl Roll-Up – ** 3/4
  • Sami Callihan vs The Good Hands: Sami Callihan wins via Cactus Driver ’97 – SQUASH
  • Eddie Edwards w/Alisha Edwards & Brian Myers vs Nic Nemeth: Eddie wins via Boston Knee Party – *** 1/4

Results:

A weird opening that is just framed to put Nemeth and Hardy together against The System. Feels a little awkward, but who knows how it will play out.

Mike Santana vs Myron Reed w/Trey Miguel & Zachary Wentz

Ahh I didn’t really pay attention to Santana’s theme at Rebellion, but its pretty damn cool. Good stuff.

Rascalz blindside Santana early, but the heel advantage doesn’t last more than a few moves. Santana whips Myron from corner to corner, hits a few Hip Attacks before Myron finally dodges one and starts using his unique offense and agility to his advantage. Matrix dodge, into an Leaping Outside Back in Slingshot Codebreaker. Some more offense and Santana powders to the ramp, Myron jumps over the rope and tries a Flying Cutter, but Santana blocks it, turns things around, gets pushed forward and hits the Rolling Cutter. Santana takes out the Rascalz, heads back into the ring, Myron tries to catch him unawares but eats the Spin the Block off the rope run! Santana wins fairly quickly.

Maclin’s music hits, he tries to employ the help of The Rascalz to attack Santana, but as soon as Maclin positions himself to get in, The Rascalz bail and flip off Maclin. Maclin makes it out of the confrontation relatively unscathed, but at least we know where he’s going for Under Siege probably.

OH FUCK ME WITH RUSTY KNIVES. Because Cardona is hurt Kon is paired with SDL, and she just challenges Jordynne and PCO to a tag match. WHY!? STOP IT. This is hot garbage.

Josh Alexander comes out…I wonder who’s Super Finisher he’s gonna conveniently kick out this time? Brian Myers? Frankie Kazarian? Rich Swann? Because yes, I’m still annoyed that Hammerstone has been in TNA for half a sandwich, he already connects with a Super version of his finish on tacks, and that’s not a finish. Oh Kaz’s music hits. Okay, so time for Josh to kick out of Fade to Black or Flux Capacitor. Kaz talks smack, says he won his match too so he should have a say in who’s number one contender. Josh challenges him, Kaz says not right now, but a referee runs out and says the match is official.

#1 Contender: Frankie Kazarian vs Josh Alexander

Kaz throws his jacket on Josh’s head, and attacks him with some strikes before Josh fights back and throws Kaz out. Commercial break, we see Kaz misses his Apron Guillotine, Josh goes for the Low Crossbody but Kaz dodges and Josh goes flying. Kaz starts throwing some chops and claws at the cauliflowered ears of Josh. Russian Leg Sweep from Kaz for a near fall. Josh swings wildly and Kaz ducks the strike and levels Josh with a Lariat.

Josh blocks a Vertical Suplex attempt, but Frankie pulls off a Fisherman’s Suplex after a few overhead strikes for a near fall. Josh stands up and connects with a straight right, rocks Kaz, Back Body Drop, into a Charging Forearm, Rolling Senton, 2 count! C4 Spike attempt countered into a Back Stabber and then Chicken Wing, but Josh fights it off, rolls through and into an Ankle Lock, Kaz kicks off and into a Head and Arm Cradle for a near fall and then the Guillotine Leg Drop into Slingshot DDT spot from Kaz for another 2 count!

Fade to Black, but its fought off, Big Boot but then Kaz counters the next move with a Power Slam into the Springboard Guillotine Leg Drop, but Josh grabs the Ankle Lock! Locomotion German Suplex time from Josh, Halfhatch Suplex after the Germans, floats over for a 2 count! C4 Spike attempt again, but Kaz fights it off, dumps him over the top rope, slingshots him in and into the Cutter for a near fall for Kaz! After the 2 Kaz grabs a chair and chain, the referee stops the chair of course, so he tries the chain, EY runs down and grabs the chain so Kaz pulls the Eddie Guerrero and the referee admonishes EY, but doesn’t DQ Josh. So as Kaz is busy laughing at EY, Josh picks the ankle, Ankle Lock with the Grapevine, Kaz taps.

ASH by Elegance vs Xia Brookside

Both are jawing at each other and then throw hands before Xia gets the upper hand with a Headscissors from the Top Turnbuckle, Charging Knees, a Flurry of Kicks, but when the ref forces some space in the corner, ASH is finally able to dodge and work over Xia with her Twisting Body Splash, a few choking moves, a corner Stomp into a Snap Suplex for 2. ASH is in charge elegantly, but the referee keeps forcing space on both of them when they go for corner attacks. Xia manages to take advantage a little, but ASH regains control, kicks Xia up the ramp and then lands her Cartwheel Back Elbow up the ramp. It actually looks pretty cool executed like that.

Headlocks and Hair Pulling to keep Xia down and using energy to kick out. ASH is getting frustrated but Xia is remaining persistent. ASH goes back to the Headlock, but Xia fights up, Jawbreaker, Back Elbow, Kick to the gut and Drop Toe Hold sends ASH face first into the middle buckle. Xia rips off 4 Double Knee Smashes to the back of ASH’s head into her Flying Crossbody for a close 2! Xia pulls her up, but ASH spins out, then Xia slips it, but ASH kicks her in the chest and deposits her to the outside and demands a count from the referee. Iceman puts Jeweled Knuckles/Rings on ASH’s hand, the referee catches her, removes the stuff from her fingers and Xia hits the School Girl Roll-Up for the flash win.

Sami Callihan vs The Good Hands

So the Good Hand Jobs are about to do their job to Sami. I’m just gonna assume Sami beats the hell out of both and wins with a Cactus Driver ’97. If anything interesting happens I might actually cover it, but come on now.

Kaz makes a Metallica reference with the “Wash Your Back So You Won’t Stab Mine”…and Sweet Amber is the only good song on St. Anger. So…I ain’t mad.

Eddie Edwards w/Alisha Edwards & Brian Myers vs Nic Nemeth

A little early ground wrestling and headlocks for control from both men. Nothing super flashy to start until we get to the rope run and Nemeth goes for the Flying Body Press to drop Eddie. Before Nemeth can follow up, Lish grabs his foot. Nic does have his brother Ryan in the crowd, trying to get chants going and do the old school ‘power up the babyface’ thing, but Eddie has been in control since Lish got involved. Simple offense, chokes, strikes, Snap Suplexes, Knee Drops, simple yet effective. But then Eddie ducks his head too early, Nemeth kicks him in the face, bounces his head off the buckles a few times, Dropkick sends Eddie reeling to the corner, Nemeth starts the 10 Count Punches but Myers hits the apron to distract and Eddie manages to slip the situation and push Nemeth to the floor.

Commercial break happens, Nemeth is trying to fight back with Chops, but a Kitchen Sink from Eddie puts Nemeth on the floor again! Clubbing blow from Eddie, but Eddie then misses the Hip Attack in the corner and Nemeth counters with the Rude Awakening into the 10 Count Rain of Elbows. Fame Ass-er miss, Eddie tries something but Nemeth turns it into that hesitation DDT for 2! Tuning up the band starts to build and Eddie powders to avoid it. Nemeth throws Eddie back in, goes to the top, but Eddie crotches him, rises up and hits the Superplex into Tiger Driver for 2! Eddie starts mocking with Tuning Up the band but Nemeth hits his own Superkick into an Olympic Slam for 2!

Both men just trade strikes Fighting Spirit style, Eddie says “Always Trust the System” and Nemeth shuts him up with a Headbutt. Danger Zone is blocked, Boston Knee Party gets ducked, they level each other with Lariats! Myers and Ryan Nemeth start fighting to distract the referee, Moose hits the ring and hits Nemeth with the belt. Eddie lands Boston Knee Party and The System wins again!

Overall Score: 6/10

A lame opening segment, a squash match, ASH by Elegance getting her first loss, and a weird way of just pulling the number one contender out of mid air makes for an awkward show. Also Kon still be involved in, literally anything, is negative. However, I can say there was a ton of stuff thrown at the wall this episode, so there’s a chance that some things landed better with other people than myself. The ballot segments were amusing, they overused the “I need to talk to you Santino” gimmick a bit much and personally I feel like having Jake versus Hammerstone is booking yourself into a weird corner.

But hey, the main event was fun, Nemeth getting laid out to the point that there could be a story reason to take him out of the Under Siege match. Kaz with the Metallica reference was pop worthy and I guess its a lot of ‘let’s see where it goes’ kind of angle creation. So it wasn’t complete trash, but its definitely a wait and see episode.
