IMPACT News: Original Plans For Austin Aries & Eli Drake’s Bound For Glory Opponent

Following IMPACT Wrestling’s Bound For Glory pay-per-view on Sunday night, there have been a handful of stories surrounding the promotion and the events surrounding the event.

Of course, the main story has been the status of former IMPACT World Champion Austin Aries after he lost the title at Bound For Glory to Johnny Impact and is now reportedly done with the company (see that story here). Since, there has been one report floating around that Aries’ departure from IMPACT is just a work as he is doing what’s being described as a “Loose Cannon” angle, similar to the late, great Brian Pillman in the mid-90’s. It’s being said Aries will be appearing for other wrestling promotions, playing up on how he left IMPACT when he didn’t sell Johnny Impact’s finisher and walked out flipping middle fingers towards Don Callis.

Today, PWInsider is reporting that IMPACT actually had plans for Aries at this week’s television tapings, but those were scrapped following Bound For Glory. As for the speculation of this all being a “Loose Cannon” angle, there’s been no word either way on that.

Another story coming out of Bound For Glory was James Ellsworth’s surprise appearance as Eli Drake’s opponent, which some believed was supposed to be meant for Chris Jericho. According to PWInsider, the original plan was actually for Drake’s opponent to be Joey Janela and to use him regularly moving forward. Of course, Janela suffered a severe knee injury recently and will be sidelined for an extended period of time (read about that here). Therefore, Ellsworth was brought in as a replacement.
